Porting 2.2 Froyo

I know it shouldnt be in this Section.
But this is the most viewed section by developers and gets the most attention so i posted it here.
Well like many of us were just waiting for someone to port 2.2 to our Heros. And I went to the G1 section to see how the development on porting 2.2 Froyo to the G1 was going, and their 63% done with it. Damn!

Why didn't you post this in our current Froyo 2.2 port's thread? No need to make a new thread when you can just post in the current thread where the people that are working on it are already reading.... Good info though

This shouldn't be in this section.

We have people doing similar here.. Though they dont announce everything they get workings. Some are also busy doing other things.
My guess if we wanna see froyo on the hero we need to look at toast for his coding and a his .29 kernel, and darch and quietcblongs for there understanding of AOSP roms.

I know their working on porting froyo but haven't heard specifically mixing the two.
Is why i thought this was important.

New threads get more attention than reply's getting lost in a thread

fyi, any progress made on the g1/mt3g front is progress on this front. It can be ported in a matter of 2 minutes onto our phones

Developement for froyo has disapeared from picture..
There has only been one non-functional port ..
I wonder whats holding development back!!!

Well i think until the last official 2.1 Build is out and all the devs has put so much out of them they will try again looking after 2.2, who knows maybe htc will surprise us, so that we receive the updates through google

haha my bad, been using his rom all day aswell

Guys... we still haven't got a 100% working vanilla 2.1 build and you are thinking about froyo? Let's fix what is in our gardens first, and then move on.

And btw we need the kernel 2.6.33 for Froyo anyhow. As it is using some GPU features we need from that kernel.
Also Hero <-> Froyo is going to be hardplay. We need more memory on the phone to get Froyo up and smiling.

Unfortunately I don't know what ROM that is, but I'm sure someone here will come up with the answer.
And just a heads up (not to pick on but to inform) please post future question threads like these in the General forum. The Development forum is for specifically discussing development. I know there are a lot of bad examples already but the more we can prevent the quicker that will change.

Judging by the title, you're asking because it appears to be HTC Sense UI. It unfortunately is not. It's just a "theme". You can tell by the lockscreen and the system info screen he calls up. It's Froyo build DJ29 (which is one of the Froyo build leaks on this forum). You can however achieve this look even on a stock Epic. The weather clock and some of the toggle widgets (vibrate, wifi, etc) are Beautiful Widgets from the market. The dock and calendar widget are part of LauncherPro, also from the market. Both apps have themes you can download that emulate that HTC Sense UI look. The live wallpaper is Nexus Revamped (you guessed it, from the market). Have fun with your new Epic!

Isn't this the section General for his phone relating to the Samsung Epic 4g?

Thanks los1223. When you say 'stock Epic' do you mean a unrooted Epic with just a simple theme change? .... can't wait to get the Epic... should be here tomorrow...

Yes. You can install the launcher pro app and the beautiful widgets app and theme them. They do not require root to install/customize.

Dude, stop trying to start a flame war. Reposting the same freakin' think over two hours apart is definitely trolling. (For those interested in that saga, Google is your friend.)
I've used his roms in the past on my Droid. They tend to be fast, pretty, and buggy as heck. I'd definitely not recommend those with new Gtabs making this your first rom.

As soon as you can get screen shots in cm7 you will be able to in this rom......hmmmm

The Official Thunderbolt ROMs and Kernels Listing (DEAD)

Nice compilation. The only reason I am not complaining about a "repost" is because you provide much more detail than the current sticky
I think this is useful. It would also be nice to include MD5 sum of the files for those who wish to verify before flashing. This may require a lot of effort to maintain though.
*EDIT* and at this point all of the ROMs are based off of sense, but once the RIL issues are sorted out and AOSP ROMs start dropping then it would also be nice to have a line for each ROM stating if it is Sense-based or AOSP-based.

I did not see any other post that listed all of the current roms/kernels here. Either way, thanks for taking the time to put this together. I'm sure all the newbs will appreciate it greatly

Certainly once AOSP ROMs rather if they are Froyo, Gingerbread, Ice Cream, Honeycomb, Chocolate Cake, Sherbet, Fudgecicle, Peanut Brittle, Oreo Blizzard, Sundae, or heaven forbid... Apple Pie... then I will update the listing to reflect that.

Great post OP! The only thing I have to add is Virus ROM 3-1 version (nonsense). I believe it's the same as 3 but with all sense elements removed.

Thank you very much everyone for your kind words. I certainly plan on keep this updated as well. I might not update it right away whenever a new ROM/kernel comes out but it will be done. As far as this thread getting a sticky I'll leave that up to the mods/admins here if they want to do that or not. I'd love for it to happen but in the end (sadly) its not my call.
