That not only do they offer a netflix-like stream service with lots of free movies and TV shows, you can watch them on your tab with no issues.

Agreed. I knew about it for a while, but then noticed that the prime section is severely limited. I also have netflix, so I have no need for the prime streaming.
However, it is nice that Amazon is extending some more services to its prime members.
I just found out about this morning, never really noticed it before. I just found it interesting that it was so easy to play on the tab.

This is the biggest issue with android in general for me. There is no official movie/TV download service. Blockbuster has an app on some devices but not a lot. Streaming movies and TV is worthless for plane rides or those of us with wifi only tablets..
Are there any legal ways besides ripping dvds anyone uses that aren't streaming services?

with 3.1 we should be able to rent movies from google and i do believe there is a offline mode so you can download movies for those planes rides and stuff
If you rent a movie though the market on your Rooted Moto Xoom and try to play it in the Google movies app you will get an error 49 (rooted device not allowed).
But if you go to www.youtube.com in the browser and login you can then play your movie.
I have done this process on my Rooted WIFI Xoom with 3.2. (Desktop UA string). Just thought I would share...
This will only work if you are connected to a network. So if you can tether or if you have a Verizon Xoom you should be good to go mobile. Or you can always use WIFI.
How many movies did you try it with?

im a newbie, so I apologize for the hand holding but can you please explain exactly how to view a Google video through the YouTube browser? I ordered a movie on Google videos and signed into YouTube, but where do I go from there? Thanks
if you type in"about:debug" (without quotes) in the browsers address bar you will get more settings. go to settings>debug>uastring and change it to desktop. then reload youtube and on the homepage there should be something like "don't forget to watch your movie" and that's it.

Not if they enable our tv-out feature. We could stream it directly from the phone through the AUX port.
Also, I'm sure there's a way to stream your phones screen to the computer through the use of an application on the phone and on the pc. Could be wrong, but it seems remotely likely..

You can rent from other places online for your PC like Amazon.
Yeah, I'm not sure why would want to do that... the Android movies are $1 more expensive on average, and probably would be lower quality. Go on Amazon or something.

I understand the premise but I think that is what Google is trying to prevent because once on a PC it can be recorded easily. There are too many apps for computers to do this. This is also supposedly why the root block is there (not much of a lock though).
All's Google needs is a lawsuit from a movie company stating they are the reason it was bootlegged (too many lawyers in this world).
I'm sure at some point you will be able to access the rented google movie from your google account on your pc. And I am betting you will be able to with a google enabled tv as well. I'm not sure if it works that way now but it might in the future.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
It's been rumored that rooted devices will not have access to rent/buy movies using Google's new Movie service.
Am I the only one holding back on rooting my device because of this? I tried thinking about it yesterday, and I do not know of any legitimate way to download a movie (legally - paid) and transfer to watch on my Tab. More to the point, I'd rather just rent at $5 than buy at $15.
I've been a rooter since I had a G1 and was always a proponent of rooting, but I don't want to lose what I feel is a key feature of a tablet -- the ability to watch movies.
I know that's not the case as of now .. I have the new market on my Fascinate .. rooted and can download movies and books like a champ. Maybe its something they will fix later . But isn't the case as of now .

My 10.1 is not rooted, and the Google Video app doesn't show up in the market. When I go to the web I can find the app, but my Samsung shows up grayed out and the market claims the device is not compatible with the Video App. I've got it on my Asus Transformer and Acer Iconia tablet though. All three live in the U.S. with me. Anyone have a clue? Maybe a direct download of the video app?
I can confirm that movie playback is indeed prohibited when SU is discovered. I can also confirm that the work around listed previously, er, works.
iTunes it isn't, but it is a legit way of getting media on an Android device. Much better than Samsung's implementation.
I'm one of those odd people who will hack their device on a whim, but won't download illegal media. If I'm going to watch something, I'll rent or buy it.
If Google closes the work around and I have to choose between root and movies, root wins. No contest

Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app
I'm assuming you meant Amazon Prime Video? As of now there is no Android app for it aside from GTV app (which only works on select TVs). There's one for Kindle tablets and Fire Phone, but no other Android devices have access to it. In fact, you can rip APK off the Kindle Fire or Fire Phone and sideload it on any Android phone, but they won't work and force close on any device other than Kindle. As of now, your only option to watch Amazon Prime Video on Android is to use browser that supports Flash, such as Dolphin Browser.
Amazon recently did mention that they may come up with an app for other Android devices soon, but that hasn't happened yet, and I doubt it will any time soon, so I'd say browser is your best bet.
Okay, apparently it seems the app recently got released. Here's the link to it.

Amazon Instant Video should already be available on Roku. What model of Roku do you have? Depending on the model, your other option is to use screen mirroring, so long as you have supporting media streaming device.

It could be because its international variant. They're very picky about that kind of things. You could try an app called Market Helper. It's an app that helps your device disguise as some other device so you can download "incompatible" apps from Play Store. It requires root access, but if you're interested, try the link below.
http://goo.gl/GYz7z0
If that doesn't work, well, I guess you could simply download the APK, and side load it. I did that on my Nexus 7, and it does work perfectly(it shows as incompatible on Play Store). Once you have the Amazon app, you can download Instant Video app from Amazon appstore right from Amazon app. They don't seem to check for compatibility on Instant Video app, so you should have no problem with that. It's kinda interesting as even though they say the tablets are "not supported" the app seems to adapt to tablet screen, changing UI element to fit the bigger screen. Anyways, below is the link to the APK I ripped off my phone. Enjoy
http://goo.gl/8fTK1b
Thanks! Trying the Market Helper (and ROM Toolbox) first...
Also if you have botbrew, can't you technically install Flash w/ Firefox and watch? Never tried it since it seems overkill, but would it work in theory?
