Hide Album Arts from Photo Gallery?!? - Galaxy S II General

Now that uncle Sam fixed the media scanner not reading properly iTunes tags and album arts, there are tons cover arts appearing in the photo gallery!
Wonder if this is by design or a sort of bug?
There should be a way to hide those cover arts from the photo gallery....

Make a emty file called .nomedia and place in the folder or use program from Android Market to do it for u.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.studiokuma.nomedia

In what folder should I place the .nomedia file? I wish to use the album arts ONLY in the music player....

I see... maybe you mean in the Music folder? This will prevent the gallery to use those icons? But will it keep the music player to show correctly tha arts?

Yes it will prevent the art from showing in the stock media player. Get a media player where you set the folders, like poweramp, and then you can have the .nomedia file in the music folder to stop gallery from seeing it but the player will still pick it up

Humm...but i'd like the stock media player to show the album arts now that it works! What I'd like to disable is showing the album arts in the photo gallery

I have all of my photos named folder.jpg/jpeg (I forget which extension) and they don't show up in the gallery.

Haha! No, really, I'm serious! I mean I've been messing with Nokia customer support for years, and basically it didn't exist, no wonder they're collapsing.
When I've noticed the .m4a missing tags and cover arts I have posted a message to Samsung customer support here in Italy and the day after I got a phone call from them and I was astonished when the guy told me that "Samsung is aware about this problem, because the media scanner is faulty when dealing with ID3 tags in .m4a" !!!!!!!
At the moment they're doing pretty well!

I just don't use default photo gallery. Try QuickPic for example. It can't show Picassa albums, but it allows good control about what folders to display and what not.

Good to know, I'll take a try, btw I was tryng to remove Picasa album showing

I,wish you better luck then most, others have found when we have pointed out huge issues with them, and got we are working on it. That, was almost a year ago and guess what. Still not fixed.

I recommend QuickPic, it's a much faster and better gallery than that comes with Android. Also you can tap on a folder and exclude/hide it from the listing.
Awesome app, still wondering why Google hasn't bought the app and replaced the stock Android one with that one.

Wells it's not true. You can hide album arts from gallery simply by changing their names to "folder.jpg". Than gallery will ignore them, though player will still use them.

NIce one this, worth it giving it a try... maybe with a subfolder-recursive script that does the job...

Learn something new everyday. But there is no way I ma changing the files just for the system to change them back the next time i sync to my pc

Ahhh!!! I have just realized that those arts are related to mp3 with external album art only! The trick would simply be to repack cover art into the mp3 itself.... correct?
OT: now that the cover art is being used at larger resolutions, whne the music player plays the track, it shows some album arts with very poor resolution. I wonder if there's a tool that could list what tracks are using low resolution cover arts so they could be fixed...

Album Art

What do i have to do to get album art to show on every album in media player and media panel some show and some dont.Do you need to us art that is a specific size. Please help
You need to learn how to search these forums.
Hi,
I use a tool called Tagrunner and it integrates the Album Art in the .mp3. I think there are also some freeware tools that do that...
I think there is a way to add a .jpg file in the album folder but for me the method to integrate the picture directly in the .mp3 is better...

Yes i do but advice is what i want not telling off.
Update on this issue.
I used mp3Tag to check all my music. Many already had coverart tagged in them but the X1a would not show it. I then realized that the ones that were showing were 300x300 pixels or less. The X1a may show larger files but my larger files were off iTunes and 600x600 and they definitely would not show.
So I went out to mog.com and found all my artwork in smaller file sizes. I attached the new artwork using mp3Tag and presto, everything works now. It took a bit of time but if you want it to work, this is the only way.
in order to visualize the cover, I use TAGScanner, and integral the cover within every mp3 album.
Making this, I can see all the covers some in Music, of the Media Xperience Panel.

Missing Album Art

Hi,
Transferred my music from WMP over to my Nexus and only some have album art.
My album art has been manually added as "cover art" through WMP.
Would I have more success if I manually add the album art in iTunes?
Does anyone have this problem and has found one is better than the other? These are the only two media players I've ever used but have just come back to Windows so could consider WinAmp if anyone knows how that works with the Nexus?
Cheers. Paul.
Mate all my itunes music had album art.. i transferred it and its not showing :S only some of it is
Was your album art manually added and embedded into the files or just downloaded via iTunes?
Majority by itunes...
It may not be this ultimate fix and it may or may not work on the nexus(I'm still on G1) but Album Art Grabber in the market works well...until you wipe.

This is the problem.
iTunes stores the album art in a different folder and assigns it to the music when loaded.
It does this ONLY if the artist and album title are completely correct, but does not embed it to the track or folder.
There is a way to assign the album art and EMBED it into each track without having to worry about .jpgs hanging around
see here (post 4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618426
that program works great haha
how do i fix the unknown artist thing.. and missin album title.. i edit it in itunes but it doesnt change
You mustn't be editing it properly.
Remeber you have to edit the Artist, Album in iTunes but ALSO the track title in windows explorer (iTunes changes the embedded info).
Windows may show UNKNOWN album or artist but in iTunes it will be right.
Make sure you change it all, but it is tedious, but once it's dine it'll never need doing again and no unsightly .jpgs in all your music folders.
Oh i get you now mate.. See im on a mac :S thats why im getting confused with how to edit it out of itunes..
I get albums doubled aswell.. must be cus of the name..
Is there no program to edit it on the phone?
Theres a couple for gettin the album art on the market, 'album art grabber' as someone mentioned and 'mp3 tagger' does as well i believe
yeye got the albumart sorted
i mean one that would let me edit
Artist, Album, etc on the phone.. cus using a mac i carnt edit it on here really

digital monkey is a software for your pc.
That's a work around
I see that adding the artwork into the file as a tag would work but I see that as redundant data.
Why does putting the jpg into the folder work sometimes and not others?
Tom
Image may be too large for it to detect it as album art?
Embedding the art with Media Monkey or mp3tag is the way to go, never have problems with mine...

This method only worked for about 30% of my albums and I never understood why. Eventually I bought btunes from the app store, really nice program with a widget and lockscreen controls. It downloaded all of my missing artwork and I've never looked back

I would like to know this too , even image that worked in another folder doesn't work in different folder?
i dont understand why the default player only seems to find a few album covers whereas 3 music player finds them all. the id3 tags are a filled in correct. :L
I had to clear out and reset my ID tags and embedded album art multiple times to get the Desire music player to recognise them all.
Album art grabber is great.
i sort of got how it works, it's similar to Sense ui on winmo.
1. Get the cover, small res files are better (500x500 cover is good).
2. Rename the file as: ~hTC_album name.jpg (exact album name with spaces)
3. Copy the cover in the album folder and mark the file as hidden (right click on the file > properties > check hidden).
This one worked for me but some albums still won't get the cover from the folder.

Gallery view showing music album thumbnails!

I go into Gallery to view my albums of pics and unfortunately it not only puts a folder in the gallery for each folder of pictures I have but also for every single album or single in my phone/memory card (album art). uggggh I don't see any settings to disable that or omit certain folders. any hacks?
Yeah, I've got the same issue. Furthermore, the music app shows all of my additional ringtones and notification sounds. Haven't found a fix yet.

Same issue here, but to be fair I don't think it is a Vibrant issue, it's a general Android thing. My G1 always did this too pre and post froyo... I never bothered to figure out a fix though.
yeah I had this issue on my G1 also. Nothing new. I wish there was a filter setting or a watch-folder setting
mine does NOT put the album art in the gallery. i have my music on the sdcard in a folder called MUSIC
but my music app does give me every sound under the sun. it's annoying because i am now FORCED to make playlists without the erroneous phone sounds. never had to do that before. ;/

It's not a bug. A bug would be if the gallery app was *designed* to NOT show certain images. It's not. it's designed to show every image on the storage drives. It's a poor design, not a bug.
the Gallery just needs to have the ability to hide certain folders and files so you do not see them... Has been an issue for me since my G1 and 1.0!!
Hopefully your album art is in a different folder than your music. If so, stick a .nomeda file in the folder. (Just use notepad and save as type "all files" so it doesn't add a .txt to the end.) Works for hiding sound files too.
I don't have any album art showing in my gallery because I embed the album art in to each MP3 file's meta data. Use something like MP3 tag to do it (Winamp I think does it too). If you use WMP to Sync music like I do, the music player doesn't see most album art anyway. It's best to just embed the image in to the meta data.
Here's the solution:
rename all the .jpg in the music folders "Folder.jpg". This works for me. I'm assuming of course you have one folder for each album and each folder has 1 pic file for the cover art.

The best way to do it is to use something like MP3Tag to embed the album art in each MP3 file. This makes sure each song has the album part showing up. That way the gallery doesn't index your album art as well.

here try this: gallery excluder app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063358
it excludes wht u want to and not!
I've stopped using the gallery and uninstalled it. Moved onto an app called Just Pictures, you can hide and exclude folders and pictures and such.
And Music i've gotten rid of the stock music player and just run MIUI player. Has the option to exclude files under a certain size (good for avoiding ringtones).
on CM7 the following works:
using the stock file manager, go to the folder which contains the files you don't want to appear in the gallery / music player. Then go to settings and there you have "exclude from media scan".
.nomedia file in the folder...simple

Album Cover Art

Can someone please tell me the best way to save album art? Everytime I update or change roms I lose the cover art. Now I am currently using "Cover Art Downloader" which will automatically find the covers in batch mode when you want, but I was wondering if there is a way to save it with the music on the ext. sd card. Does anyone know how to do this?
I am using the same app. I don't think there's a way to save them. Every time I flash a new rom I have to redownload them too. Its a pain!

If you sort music by album, there's a way to do:
You can grab the album cover pic from amazon, scan it yourself, or search, and put it to corresponding folder with audio files.
I did the same thing and I have album cover on every album folder.
I use mediamonkey to organize my mp3s and it has the ability to embed the cover art into the mp3 itself so it always stays with the music. Media monkey also has the ability to sync playlists using the media player usb mode on the phone.
where do you get media monkey? i don't see it in the market.

Yea, you wouldn't - it is a PC application.
It also has the ability to reencode all your music on the fly while transferring. I keep all my music in archive quality MP3 and Flac files, but I don't want it to take up that much space on my phone, so I have it automatically transcode everything to 64Kbps WMA on transfer, which sounds ok in my cheap earbuds anyhow. The downside is that I lose my embedded album art, so keep in mind that the embedded album art and the transcoding to save space are mutually exclusive if you use Media Monkey. Both features are great, you just have to pick which one is more important to you.

Just be aware that if you do this, all the album cover pictures will now show up in the gallery which kind of sucks if you have a lot of albums.
what does music player look for?
Where does the music player look for album art, and where? An image file with the same album name? It is ok with embedded art too?
If you use poweramp it will just re dl the set for you or you can manually do it through album art app. I know this didn't answer you exactly but it's a solution
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

I had this same issue and my way around that was to delete all of my old cover art and then use "Album Art Grabber" from the Market, which collects everything automatically and puts it into 1 folder.
In the end, I have 1 folder in "My Gallery" with all of my album artwork and everything is nicely organized in one place. I also think you can choose the folder you want to save your artwork to....At the very least, you could always copy the artwork folder and place it wherever you want (SD Card or Internal HD).
Hope that helps!

If you guys dont mind spending a little money Poweramp does all this automatically.

I listen to mostly hiphop and r&b and the audio is great. I plug it up to my car auido jack and sounds amazing through my ported subs. Also really good thru headsets.
I personally started using this program when stock android and touchwiz music player was playing the audio from installed games, ringtones, some videos, movies, and podcast.
This program only plays music form the folders you select. THis works great with the vibrant having 2 seperate memory cards. Because I have music in the internal/external.
Edit: I also wanted to add that cover art got on my nerves when I have atleast 100 albums on my sd cards. Its not always simple as adding a picture to the album folder. You usually have to rename them to Cover.jpg/Cover.jpeg/Albumart.jpg etc. I have majority of my music on my external 16gb and it had compatibility problems when having certain albums in the same folder. Poweramp takes care of all of that. I dont pay for a ton of apps but this one I would recommend.
if you get the "donate" version of cover art downloader, there is an option in the settings to "embed cover art into id3 tag (mp3 only).

I don't believe so because it is a flag used by the gallery app, not the music player app. Any application can behave however it is programmed of course, but most picture apps honor the file and most multimedia apps don't.
The best way is also the biggest pain-in-the-butt way.
Use a computer program on a desktop computer to embed the album art into the mp3 itself. Then transfer the mp3 files back to your vibrant.
I use MP3 Tagger, which also lets me correct MP3 ID data.
It is a work in progress for me. I have done all of my mp3 files beginning with 'A' and 'B'.
At my current pace I should be done in about 5 years.

I'm positive the .nomedia file will keep audio from showing up in the music player. I did this to keep lets golf sounds and other game sounds from showing up there. So that file would keep the image from showing up in the gallery, but also the mp3's wouldn't show up in music player either.
