[Q] [REQUEST] Android 2.3.5 on G2 - G2 and Desire Z General

Hey all,
I've been dying to have a fantastic essentially stock (real) gingerbread ROM for the G2. While the OTA update is pretty good, it still is missing a few key aspects of what gingerbread should be - blinking LED notifications, the CRT screen turning off effect, a bunch of other stuff. I just recently threw android onto my mother's HD2 Leo, and put this ROM on there. Stock, obviously rooted, with a bunch of awesome features that you can see in the link there. It is FANTASTIC. Probably the best ROM I have ever dealt with.
I guess what I am looking for is a Gingerbread AOSP stock that is currently on the Nexus One - (2.3.5 Gingerbread)
I would love to see a rom identical to this on the G2! Does anyone know of a rom available for the G2 like this?
Or, even better, would someone like to help me figure out how to port this ROM to the g2?
Cheers all
- D

You could try CyanogenMod 7.1-RC1, it has all the features you said you wanted. It does use ADW.launcher, but you can install the stock launcher by following the instructions here.

CM is actually pretty good - my issue is that the look, feel, and operation is nothing like stock gingerbread! I really want something like the stock AOSP Gingerbread Nexus One rom.
EDIT - Hey! One hundred posts!

Cm 7.1 isn't 2.3.5. U need to install the latest nightly. Have a new rom to install every morning is not only exciting, u get new features as they are implemented. What are u talking about CM not being like stock ginger? It IS aosp gingerbread. The true android with zero carrier additions or overlays. You must be confused as to what stock ginger is. Also, get rid of adw the second you install ginger. Adw is a piece of garbage that brings CM WAY down. First thing I always do is search gingerbread launcher in the market and install the real stock ginger launcher. Then your experience will be perfect

Ah - I think that adw launcher is what turned me off of it! I'll give it a go there.

Use the stock launcher, and CM7 is exactly what you want.

This. I've been running a stock GB launcher on CM7 for months now. Check the thread in my sig for it.

I used cyanogen's latest nightly (2.3.5) then xboarder56's converter. Works like a charm!

[Q] - Just bought Wildfire

Please bare with me.
I just bought Wildfire White. It's on the way to me. It will have 2.1 pre-installed.
What should I do first?
- I want to have one of these custom ROMs (which one is best?)

I want it to be OC-able. I hear that I need custom kernel for that. Well what do I have to do to get custom kernel.
Is there some guide that will tell me all this?
I would not.reccomend the first one (cm7) since it is not even alpha
if you like htc sense go for the new wildpuzzle not the chinese one
if you dont like sense go for cm6 but make sure to flash the maps and market file as well
note thease files may break your device.rendering it useless. You are responsible for your actions. This will also void your warantee. If you dont want that to happen then use the 2.2 ota but you will not be able to root or flash a custom rom. If in doubt stay on 2.1

lol, Dont scare him.
Well, first and foremost, I would recommend you read this guide completely:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
After that, when you have rooted your phone, you can decide on the Custom ROM yourself. They are broadly categorized into 2 categories : Sense ROMs and Non-Sense ROM's/ (Sense is the default HTC UI). Then, you have to decide whether you want a Sense ROM or one without it, and, go about it accordingly. (Generally, Non-Sense ROMs are faster, since Sense requires a lot of processing power)
As for CM7, even though it is Alpha, I would recommend you try it out. I am using it as a daily use ROM, and, its perfectly fine.
I'm currently using cm7 night release 0. I think. Its great. There are a few bugs but nothing. That effects the phone at user level.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
cm7 is great!!! the nightlies work perfectly ;D, very good for what you call an 'alpha' release ahahaha, and why stay on eclair or froyo, when you can have some gingerbread action
Still i would rather wait for a beta or rc release
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
CM7 Nightly 0 is almost perfect, pretty much everything works
Its personal taste anyway im stuck whith hboot 1.01 and am now wanting to try cm7 fail on my part

Would recomend de_version_4.a but then again that's my Rom lol

first of all root your new toy
after that, you should play with your phone till you run-down.

Try CM7 nighty build, i rooted my phone this month itself and the first ROM i ever put was the CM7 ROM and trust me i havent even looked around for other Custom ROMs, its fast, looks very good and all apps work on em..
Cheers, btw dont forget to read Turkey's Guide to Rooting..
OC is not stable,even 4.1.。。
CM7 build 23
so yea i figured out everything im not big fan of alpha roms so ill stick to sense roms for a while. i will surely move on to cyanogen mod later
i'm using cm nightly build 21. working just fine.
there was an issue in 18 but 21 is just fine. i have tried out almost all of roms for wildfire, and i found CM 7 to b the best of all.
No... I'd recommend wildpuzzle v0.8 first to get comfortable with first since it has all the capabilities of overclocking is stable although not recommended to wildly over the 700mhz mark and everything else.
Gingerbread is a big and not stable yet a little complicated to setup.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
i'm loving my wildpuzzle v.08,overclocked and super stable, i like sense too much
Cm 7 is very good I can confirm this. I am using build 16, everything works fine but I found it unstable overclocked over 700 on my wildfire.

Reminder dont update to official 2.2 (Froyo)
or u will not be able to flash any custom rom like me

Keeping the stock GB launcher up to date?

I'm currently running CM7 and have recently discovered the benefits of using the stock launcher instead of others like ADW or LauncherPro.
Right now, I'm using the Launcher2.apk from the T-Mobile 2.13.531.8 ROM. However, considering that Android is under constant development, how can I keep up to date with the latest and greatest updates to the stock launcher? Is there anyone offering nightly builds of stock Android, similar to what Cyanogen is doing?

I believe they only update the launcher on every major update (2.1/2.2/2.3 etc) So it should be the latest until ICS comes out
yeah
yeah the launchers are only updated with every release, so i'd expect to see a new version with Ice Cream Sandwich.

Curious to know what benefits you've found vs LaunchPro?
I am also using the stock launcher.. extracted from stock nexus one 2.3.4 rom . Latest version

Considering that the stock launcher is hardware accelerated (while LauncherPro and others are not), I've noticed that it is more responsive and less choppy.

Thanks for the tip! From now I'll start grabbing the Launcher2.apk from the stock Nexus One/Nexus S ROMs.
does it save any battery?
Hardware Acceleration is the exact reason why I won't go back to LPP or ADW

[Q] 2.2.1 Iced Glacier to Rooted 2.3.4 FootBall ROM Help

It's been a while since I have messed with Root on my phone since putting on Iced Glacier 1.6 for 2.2.1 Android for my MyTouch 4G.
So I need a little help or clarification.
Following this post directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175536
I updated to the 2.3.4 ROM and for some reason occasionally get the phone showing the "MyTouch" white screen after exiting an app.
Also get "MySense" failed to load or forceclosed when starting up the phone. I think that is what it says...
I re-installed my apps using Titanium Backup, but I think I am missing a few even though I made a full App and System back up the night before doing any of this new ROM rooting. I also did a "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager.
1: Is Footballs the most basic stable rooted ROM out right now?
Or what is recommended for battery length and smoothness?
2: How does Virtuous Unity compare in stability and speed and battery life compared to other ROMs right now?
I liked Iced Glacier for it's baseness and speed and lack of bloat-ware and I don't change ROMs often. I want one that works and is stable and I want to stick to it.
Not wanting to brick my phone moving to new stuff.
My other big question is:
After installing Footballs Rooted ROM, I still get the 2.3.4 OTA update reminder.
How do I remove that ????
And yes I did a lot of searching before posting this in order to refresh my brain but could not find a precise answer...
So thank you to anyone that can help with these questions and steer me in the right direction.......
I run virtuous unity on one of my my touch 4gas and it is stable and all functions work including tango,,, love the fact there is no bloatware.

It all depends on what you like actually. For a stable rom that you will stick with for awhile that is just like the update to 2.3.4 without the bloat. I would recommend GenerationX v5, its the most up to date rooted/debloated stock version. If you like sense, but not mysense. They Virtuous Unity 1.29 seems to be the favorite stable right now. Keep in mine there are AOSP roms out there like faux's and cm7 that people enjoy as well which are excellent speeds and awesome battery life over stock type roms.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm honestly not sure what the difference between Sense and MySense is since I don't keep up with this stuff anymore.
And if I flash one of the ROMs I of course need to make a full wipe and then install. will this erase the homepage icons and need to re-install all my apps again ?
Like i said before i'm not looking for flashy themes, just no issues & good battery life & speedy response when doing things on the phone.
Thanks again for the help....

[Q] Dezire Z & ROM Manager Question

Hey Everyone,
I have a rooted desire z with an insert coin rom installed.
I want to mess around with ROM Manager. When I go to perform the 1st step, "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, it asks me to confirm phone model.
Options are HTC Desire HD and HTC G2. I would assume I want to use the G2 as this is pretty much the G2.
My phone was originally Bell Mobility.
Any insight would be great.
Thanks.
Yip choose the HTC G2
thanks!...now to decide what rom to try.

Choose whatever you want. But remember there are more options than show up in ROM manager. You can download from the dev section too
Also, ALWAYS back up in recovery before flashing. Save yourself a lot of headaches.
Dont limited yourself to what can be downloaded through rom manager, head to the developers section here and read up on the different flavoured roms
Sent from a htc desire z
And recoveries lol, 4EXT is actually pretty damn cool, and has more features than cwmr, and it's from the same creator I believe
This is only my 3rd adnroid, 2nd i've rooted.
The 1st was a Rogers Dream so I was limited to CM6 really.
One thing I wonder on the desire z is do I need to flash a different kernel? I would guess no since the insert coin rom I am running is Gingerbread 2.3.4 the kernel would be fine for something like CM7.1.
Anyone running CM 7.1 on a desire z? how is it?

When you install a new ROM (like cm7) it installs a new kernel with it. FWIW the CM7 stock kernel is amazing.
There are thousands of people running CM7 on the Vision. Head over to the 7.1 thread and see what people are saying. Its worth a try. I like it.
If I go with CM7.1, any way to get a good looking sense clock/weather widget? The ones on market suck to put it simply....
The onlything I like about sense really is that widget...

Different developer, but 4EXT is based on CWM.
I guess I could just use Launcher Pro instead of ADW and then buy the Sense Widget for $1.50...

Why don't you just try yourself? Would take much less time than reading about personal preferences of people
I never tried CM and probably won't in a visible timeframe, because I chose HTC over Samsung because of Sense (and the fact that my operator had the DZ dirt cheap compared to others ).

I prefer InserCoin. More complete for the device. CM7.1 is okay...but like the last person said, sense is why some ppl like htc...buy htc...etc.
It is all personal preference, but from what I have found so far...sense roms, insertcoin included are much nicer on the device...

Ahh, i agree to an extent. For sense, it kinda depends on what you like. Virtuous Unity runs on Sense 3.0. If you ask me, i would tell you to choose the DARKSIDE sense which runs on sense 3.5 and has beats audio. I understand that u are new and everything but i fully suggest that u give a fair share of roms a try. Remember, make a nandroid backup of your faves...expecially of stock, thats very important because its most stable. Here's a quick list of roms that i suggest you try.
STABLE:
MySense (Stock Gingerbread)
MIUI
CM
Virtuous Unity
Virtuous Affinity or the DARKside Sense (both are pretty good and very similar)
Not Stable
Creamed Glacier (I highly recommend this rom)

CyanogenMod 7 (CM7), extremely stable for me, great battery life, highly compatible with apps. Maybe not as glitzy as sense from stock. I don't really remember what stock was like. It lasted all of 3 weeks or less a bit over a year ago.

ROM
well, I think that it all depends on your preference. But if I had to choose which ones were the most stable, I would say either Virtuous Unity, CM7, or MIUI. CM7 is stock android, with a bunch of tweaks. Virtuous Unity is a straight-up Sense 3.0 rom, without any tweaks. MIUI is kind of it's own thing, you would have to go look it up. I only use MIUI when I get bored of using android ROMs, because MIUI is so different; it's like your not even running Android
