Google Exec Hints at Why Nexus One Was Leapfrogged by HTC Incredible, Evo 4G
http://googlewatch.eweek.com/content/android_vs_iphone/google_exec_hints_at_why_nexus_one_was_leapfrogged_by_htc_incredible_evo_4g.html
"Nexus One isn't a failure so much as a casualty of the success of the next wave of Android smartphones. In a few months, I'm sure we'll be saying the same things about the Incredible and the Evo 4G."
Some people may be bothered with this, but I am happy with my Nexus One. I have no buyers remorse.
I don't view my N1 as obsolete in any way at all and am quite happy with it, it's no worse than the Incredible and all aspects of the device ooze performance
phones are starting to become like computers now. as soon as you buy one a new and better one comes out tomorrow.
and what sucks about is...you're suck with a 2 year contract.
So adding two features equals "leapfrogged" now?
What a load of crap. Who has FroYo now? Yeah, that's what I thought.
I always f*cking hate these posts. I really don't want to hear doom and gloom.
Definitely don't feel any remorse.
My phone is JUST as good as the ones that are coming out NOW.
Yea, 8MP cam + dual flash, but cmon, the pictures are hardly better.
Plus the nexus LOOKS better than both of those.

SERIOUSLY, people are rediculous....... I stayed with DDR400 until DDR32000 came out because it was a serious step up...... There is nothing that screams "OH MY GOD INNOVATION" about either phone..... My next phone will be when my Nexus no longer has the NAND capacity for the current Android version. I love my Nexus
i'm with mortzz on this one. we have a phone that we can do whatever we want to do to it. i'd MUCH rather have this. i'm on the fence about the evo, but until we can get real system access (yeah, i saw the root article, but i'll believe it when i see it), custom ROM's, etc, i'll stick with the N1. which, btw, is STILL the sexiest phone i've ever seen. girl i'm seeing has the incredible, and...no thanks. not in comparison. it's a nice phone, if you have to have verizon. but, i don't
i do however have to get a sprint device. so...i may have to break contract with tmo and get the evo. otherwise, my school is going to stick me with the freaking touch pro 2 as my pager. lord what a step back that will be. but, at least if i take that, i can keep my N1
Uh. What?
Incredible and Evo won't get FroYo until the end of this year.
How about we come back to this article then so we can point and laugh?
Having root >>>> anything else.
Have any high-end phones since the Nexus achieved full root? I mean cracked bootloader and all. Desire, Legend, new Droids - none have the kind of access we do. Heck, we may have the best fully root-able hardware HTC will ever release.
I dont think the Incredible is any better than the N1, i've played witht he incredible and it feels cheap plastic like and the camera sucks as well. I like the feel of the N1 and like the looks of it. The Evo is a whole different story...

They have "root" meaning they have su permissions. AFAIK they don't have write permissions to the partitions, so it's pretty worthless.
Only thing i regret about my Nexus One is that apparently the Desire and Incredible both have touchscreens that fixed the multitouch issues.
Other than that the idea of having basically a google developement phone surpasses any of the other current phones, maybe when we see a decent hardware upgrade, then it will be a different story, but hopefully Google continues to make new Nexus phones.

That is sad. So they have the same MT issue as us, a much smaller dev front, usb-bricking issues while flashing roms, no full solution for being rooted/unlocked...took htc ages to release the kernel...they won't see froyo for ages (officially).
Not much to be ... wait for it... desired

How many points does a Galaxy register again? I'm guessing more than 2
In the UK, the N1/Desire is still the King. Desire = UK incredible, but is LITERALLY an N1, and I doubt we will ever see the Evo here [not even a whisp of 4g network].
Even if they did, all the incredible has is the less buggy touch matrix, although this has been nicely 'fixed' in froyo. The evo is a different breed of phone, id never buy it purely based on the fact that i like thinks to fit in my pocket xD
Until I see a snapgradon 1.3+, 1GB RAM, a TRUE 8mp+ cam, froyo, new gen OLED/better, my N1 can sleep with my girl any day.
that makes two of us i love man I LOVE MY NEXUS ONE
the video is @ livestream.com/disrupt/video?clipId=pla_cfa02640-01dd-4ac5-bba9-a2a2b0feee24
haha my friend was a tad jealous of me. he has the Hero and i like his sense ui. but the minute froyo came out, i installed it. i showed him how i can play hulu, i showed him that i got live wallpapers (of course he doesn't have 2.1) and the rest of the froyo goodness. and outta jealousy, he was like "oh well im gonna get a phone thats better than that. im give to get the Evo 4G that has everything the nexus one has and more, including Android 2.2" and i was like "riiiiight. just like the hero was supposed to (officially) get 2.1 right?" and he stood quiet lol idk about all of you guys but i don't really care for 2 led lights. im good with just one. as for 4G, i like to have the freedom to switch between my N1, my BB Curve 8310, and my iPhone 3GS with the simple swap of a SIM card so im great with my Sexy Nexy
SO.. as the title says... is the Hero worth buying now?
Also, I`ve read here about some problems with the touch screen that suddenly appear... is that a general issue or just some isolated incidents?
The phone is over a year old now, the CPU is a generation older than the other Android devices with the 1GHz Snapdragon processor. I'm sure the phone manufacturers are preparing the next generation devices for later in the year - making those phones obsolete.
If you're after a cheap device then you should be able to get a Hero second hand for a decent price. If you're willing to root and try new ROMs then there is still a decent community for the Hero - otherwise you'll be stuck on Android 2.1 if you stick with the official updates. The Hero is highly unlikely to get any more updates from HTC.
If your budget allows for a newer phone, then you'd be better off getting a more powerful Android device.
Thanks, I too think that it`s a little old, but it has a fairly good price, almost the same as Wildfire here, where I live, but that qvga screen on the Wildfire is a let down for me.
Alex~ is bang on, it is cheap, and the community on here is great, so if your gona be using custom roms then go for it. But I wouldn't like to say how many devs will still bother with us after Xmas.
If you can put up ur budget, do that.

Tru, there are better phones available if buying new, but it's more than competent if second hand.
I'll be about till May 2011 with my hero anyway, as my contract expires then. And even then, the hero is popular enough to merit continued support i reckin.
Hi I just bought one off eBay about a month old for £150 took a bit time to root and get used to Android, but worth it and its ok for price with lots of features. Although I think I now should have gone for HTC Legend?

Not to mention that there is no other Android phone with as cool appearance as that of a black Hero (the european version, not the US Sprint's ugly cousin). I held the Desire in my hands and played with it a bit, but although it was blazingly fast, it didn't strike me as something I'd want.
What I will want next year is a Hero-shaped phone with modern hardware.
Would not recommend ebay.
Three are selling reconditioned £159.99 with £10 credit and can be unlocked from ebay for £6.50. Also £12 cashback if you go through Quidco.
Hope this helps.
Well the community for it is quite huge. Ofc it will slim when others move to newer phones, but I guess there are folks who got a 2 year contract (me being one of them, hehe )

I agree completely, imo the only other phone that looks as good or better than the Hero is the Legend. A Hero-shaped super phone would be amazing

they've released the htc wildfire which is very much just a repackaged hero... i have no idea why they did it. it lacks all the style and class of the hero and only has an fm radio to make up for it.
Well if you root your Hero and overclock it, it pretty much becomes a Legend. Without the better screen and slimer profile. I want the Desire but got the HTC Hero this year because it just looked awesome (unfortunately Canadian carriers screw you over with 3 year contracts instead of two ) but I do love my Hero as it is my first smart phone and I love the 'chin'.
It is a matter of preference so the choice in the end is yours, but we do have Feeyo .
The design really stands out yea. People are always like "hey, what kind of phone is that?" while my brother gets none and has a desire
I think there are too many phones who are desire-like look at first look. Hero really stands out

I get that a bit. Although the only smartphone that really has any recognition here in NZ is the iPhone. I imported my phone as we don't even have a decent range of Android phones (at reasonable prices). I mean... we JUST got the Nexus One which Google just stopped selling? lol.
But I only recently got my hero (a month ago now?) and i'm happy with my purchase. I mean... there's other purchases that could be had. I almost got a Milestone but the keyboard really put me off (played with my mates', it was a terrible keyboard.. the buttons are so stiff it isn't funny). I mean... I noticed a price drop of the Milestone shortly after I purchased my Hero but.. Eh, I can't complain. Bigger screen/higher res would've been nice though. Specs aren't really much more to write home about though.
Hero was reasonably priced, looks good, performs well enough. My only real annoyances about it are: No official Froyo, smaller screen/lower-resolution than others, can't run some newer games which i probably wouldn't play much anyway.
I'll probably upgrade next year when I have lots of money
you had to go!!!! After having this phone for 2 weeks, it just didn't quite cut it even though on paper it was remarkable. It had a dual core processor, higher resolution, webtop capabilities on and on...
In the end I guess my old eyes couldn't handle the smaller icons due to higher resolution, I had issues with my MP3 player playing only 3/4 of song then stopping and then i wasn't liking the dual core heating up like a toaster oven. THe icons were dull colors too....Motorola likes these dull browns for icons where as HTC likes to use color and make it vivid.
I also like to play around with my phone too much so LOCKED BOOTLOADER was not cool. Did you hear me Motorola, LOCKED BOOTLOADER for a lot of people dont like that.....
So in the end I got the Inspire 4G with Sense. You really cant go wrong with HTC, although I understand the postive and negatives to each phone, mine just happen to fit more in line with HTC.
So for you hopefuls that Motorola will unlock it, wish you the best of luck or that they will do many updates, wish you the best of luck!!!
Not trying to start a huge debate, but if you are on the fence about these two phones, just spend 10 mins. with the Inspire and most people will probably like it over the Motorola.
its funny i had the inspire for 2 weeks....got rid of it a few days ago
got the Atrix...and THANK GOD I DID
4.3 inches at the **** resolution its at was a disaster, hurt my hands. Too heavy
not very fast, barely played videos (htc codecs suck)
Like you said, it comes down to opinion
but switching from inspire 4g to atrix was the best thing I ever did
PS: The battery on that thing gave me EPIC NIGHTMARES.

You actually can go wrong with HTC, its when they put a 1200 mah battery in a 1.8 ghz capable phone then you get to watch your battery lose a percent every 4 minutes of use. I had one it was totally BS battery life and was totally unacceptable. Then people say "just don't OC it" so then you have a 4.3 inch captivate with less ui lag, no usable internal memory storage, and GPS that works.

i can't wait until i leave my epic 4g from sprint and come to the atrix community
i am tired of htc, samsung and sprints games so it times to give motorola and att a chance

I love HTC phones. But they have to be Android. I have the evo 4G and I couldn't be happier. It's fast, vibrant, has all the bells and whistles. I literally have a mini computer at the palm of my hands.
I've had it for about 3 weeks now and yeah the battery goes quick but thats because I can't put it down! I had the Hero before switching to evo and I love everything about this phone.
I didn't understand why it was called the supersonic until I used it. Is rather have my HTC evo over any other phone on the market. Puts the iPhone to shame with its 8.0mp camera, and its secondary front-mounted camera makes video chatting a synch, the kickstand is awesome for watching YouTube or movies and also playing games. Oh and I almost forgot it has an HDMI out. Used it and the picture on my tv is remarkable.
Keep up the good work HTC and Google....I love you
Oh and one other thing it has a 4G mobile hotspot that can provide WiFi for up to 8 devices at once. If thats not remarkable I don't know what is

i like the Evo and a lot of people i kno and see around campus have either the evo or iphone 4, very few galaxy S phone, but honestly i think the Atrix is better then all of them, even the Galaxy S II won't compare judging from the specs that were given(but i can't prove it until the phone comes out so it's just an opinion)
I've never been a fan of Motorola. I have had very bad experiences with mot. Phones. I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC w/google. I also used to have the blackberry curve 8310 and thought it was the best thing since buttered toast. But that quickly changed when I switched to sprint.
Sprint has better service than ATT & Verizon combined IMO. But thats just how I feel. They have given me good prices and great devices with no hassle and I'm not the type to ruin a good thing. Bottom line is "to each his own" but I will recommend HTC with Android until either HTC starts slacking or Google bites the dust (which they wont).
I'm sure you all have valid points about your phone's but I'm pro HTC and definitly pro Google.

I've had many htc phones and have always had a good experience. I had a hard time waiting for the atrix when I saw the inspire for $100. At that price point it is a steal for the features you get. In the end i'm glad I waited though. The Atrix is rediculously good!!! Super fast and great battery life (I get about 16 hours a charge... 16!!!) It is hands down the best phone i've ever used. Head shoulders and more above the rest, a GIANT among a sea of average phones.

I was impressed by the Inspire back when it came out on Sprint as the Evo... what, eight months ago? I made the mistake of buying old hardware that just came out once, the Hero. Never again.
Coming from the Captivate, the only things I miss are how vibrant the games looked on SAMOLED and flashing the new hot stuff roms.
Do not miss accidently bricking the thing and having to use a USB jig to fix it though...
I am from a another continent; a faraway country - Singapore to be exact. Smartphones is one of my hobbies. I have had several HTC phones - Windows Mobile, and now the Desire on Android which is about 9 months old, and high time for a replacement. I have been reading and eyeing the Atrix since Jan 2011 - all excited about it's superior tech specs, and particularly its innovative HDMI/TV docking unit. I have been preparing myself to be an early adopter and to purchase a unit from EBay at a premium price. I have been so impressed with what I read that I even invested in some MMI stocks. But, all these excitement, hype and high expectations of owning a Atrix (will be my first Moto) came to a complete stop last weekend - when I learnt that a famed developer (he did the unroot for the Atrix) abandoned his work because of the locked bootloader! Motorola may have their own reasons to do this, but it is unacceptable to me. So, unless I see a Moto announcement to unlock the bootloader, I am off looking for another dual core smartphone - either the LG 2X or wait for HTC to release one. Obviously I will also sell off my MMI stocks - even if I have to incur a loss, given its recent rapid decline. Sorry folks, if I have been somewhat off-topic. Just wanted to voice my opinion.

It really is perplexing -the decision to lock the bootloader. I mean, are they afraid someone would engineer a program that steals fingerprints...etc?
so I had an incdredible, got an iphone 4 (huge mistake), then got the thunderbolt. well im now back on the incredible and i gotta say that the inc is the fastest smoothest phone ive had so far. the thunderbolt felt laggy alot, even after i rooted it, no matter what rom i was on. i dont live in an area where 4g exists so that didnt matter. i also didnt like how big it was. im not even sure the inc 2 is as good as the inc 1. they decreased internal memory and increased the size of the screen... just seems a little weird that this phone seems to be better than the newer technology..
Agree with you!
I have been in Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular in the past few days checking all the phones out, and I can't find anything that is as quick and works as well as the Incredible. I would love to upgrade, but to me there is nothing to UPgrade to. The original Incredible is just an awesome phone.
That's weird. I'd think the added 256mb of RAM would make it faster.
I wonder if it's a matter of the Incredible having been out far longer and devs having more time to figure out how to optimize things for it?

it has better tech because it's older, and more time was put into it. the thunderbolt has crappy tech, sense 2.1. a good example, i was in the store the other day looking for a belt holster, i did find it, but, was comparing specs on the droid charge to the droid x, the droid x has a faster proc, i asked why the charge costed more since it has lower tech then the x. the rep said "well, this is newer, has dual core (WRONG) has a bigger screen (yeah, because i really need a 4.3 inch screen when 3.7 is serving me fine, ffs i use a 20" HDTV i got for 90 bucks on clearence, no it's not "1080p led, 120hz" crap, but it works.

I have been looking around for a phone to tempt me away from the Incredible and nothing has even come close. What I find funny is the Verizon stores I've gone to are now locking the phones so you can't get into the settings and see what its specs are. This is truly the first phone that has lived up to its name.
C4H1LL why did you get rid of the iphone 4 out of curiosity? I'm track to buy the new one for verizon when it comes out.
I agree the Incredible is Incredible!!! I will cry when it brakes, running MIUI.US with Incredikernel. The Incredible 2 and the Thunderbolt are basically the same except Incredible2 is global and no LTE. All three have 1gig single core cpu's, but the overclock potential for the 2 and thunder would kill the original. I want a unlocked bootloader dual core HTC.

ha yea. For these android phones that is true, plus you get a huge discount is price.
You couldn't pay me to leave my Tbolt to go back to my dInc. Or the dInc2. A number of the early custom ROMs where pretty sorry, despite the best efforts of many devs. That mainly has to do with some pretty sorry base leaks from the Big Red Checkmark. I'm currently running a 3D ROM (not exactly easy on graphics) and it lags NONE at all. Furthermore, having 25 to 45 Mbps in your pocket is not something you ever want to give up.
Concerning the dInc2, that's a far better device than the original. The LCD is FAR brighter than the AMOLED, the CPU is more muscular, it's got more memory, it's got a screen large enough to reasonably display a keyboard, a decent front-facing camera, it's even more pleasant to the hand to hold, and it's actually difficult to kill the battery inside a day. If 4G wasn't a factor, I'd have a dInc2. 4G being a factor, the Tbolt is an industrial-strength device capable of summoning speeds as high as 45Mbps, leaving you effectively waiting for nothing. Really.... it downloads songs faster than you can open the music player and play them. Tethered or on the device, streaming HD quality video is NOT a big deal. I've downloaded 310MB ROMs in under 3 minutes.
not everyone is in a 4g market!!!!!!
if you have the money, go with the t-bolt, if not, just stick with the dinc until you do.
Lol had my Inc since early February. I'm happy with it and the specs aren't too low. I do have a bone to pick with HTC on their cruddy bluetooth system. It is pretty much my dependent internet connection when I'm at home. I can't get wireless out here and the closest thing we can get is dial up (not going back). I'm getting closer to go back to CM7 and get better bluetooth, but the camera sucks on it and I won't be able to use the tv out cable. While I have my issues with it, I'm happy I got it. I got it on sale for 50 bucks at Hhgregg, which in my opinion is a bargain. I don't think 4G will take off...at least not drastically for quite a while as its still being developed in many parts of the US. Maybe by the time my contract is up, I'll upgrade to a different Droid or a different non-HTC sense and Galaxy S device. Maybe get something with HDMI as well as more phones are coming with that lol. Plus with the unlimited data I'm grandfathered in and 4G data in the future, I will no longer have to go out for wifi But I'll be with my Incredible Droid until the contract is up. I might hold onto it and see if there's other purposes for it. I say if you can find this phone dirt cheap like Amazon had for .01 cent with a contract, not really into 4G yet, and could care less about a front facing camera then this phone is for you.
There are tech sites (tested.com) for example who talk about how this device is outdated and stuff.
It really isn't... it is a great phone and hasn't failed me yet. I just added on a bulky battery to mine though so it lasts over a day if I can't find a plug. The only con I had before was battery life.
I am probably going to end up dropping it one day and breaking it beyond repair and that is gonna force me to upgrade, because for what I use it for I don't see myself needing anything else yet.
I already replaced the digitizer twice lol... last time was just because it had a lot of scratches though

Are you rooted? There's probably a bunch of things you can do to help your battery life out, I'm on a 1900mAh battery that still fits in the stock case and I get over a day's use. I use a BUNCH of GPS and data too (according to VZW I used 20GB last month)
But yea the INC is growing a little old but there's nothing I have to complain about it, and no phone is a good enough upgrade for me to go for it.
One day though.. we will part our ways. Just got a new case for mine so I'm in love with it all over again..now spending hours on these forums. oh god. I need to go to sleep.
I don't know if i should move on from my N1.
I had mine since the released date. I loved having this phone. I love how much dev it received. I love the form factor, size and performance. I don't know what more i need from my smartphone. However, its been almost two years now and want a new phone. Maybe I am having rom-flash withdrawal since there is no more CM nightly. My phone has been running like a champ. I have no dent, scratch and no hardware malfunction, other then multi-touch screen problem all N1 users have. I don't know if i need a bigger screen phone. I don't know if i want it any bigger.
Are your N1 still holding up? Are you still happy with it? I like to upgrade but it feels like a waste right now. What do you guys think? Maybe I should wait until ICS is available for N1. At least an official CM9 nightly.
My N1 is holding up like a champ. After having not updated the theme/icons/wallpaper, etc, for awhile, I started to get the "I need a new phone" thoughts...but since changing all of that and making things look more like ICS, I kind of feel like I have a new phone.
I dunno. I love my N1, despite all of its quirks. IMO there are few phones with the size and form factor on par or better than the N1's. The N1 is supported so well, it kind of seems like a waste to upgrade to better phone. I mean, most of the things the newer phones can do, the N1 can be hacked to do and perform it almost if not just as well.
I say wait. That's what I'm going to try to do. I have a AT&T N1 and am switching over to T-Mobile tomorrow. Unless I can get some 1900 mhz love from T-Mobile with the addition of the new band, I will be stuck on Edge which will be pretty brutal. I have a T-Mobile Moto Milestone but I don't want to pull that thing out because I love my N1 just so much...
Also, I cannot live without the trackball. I just can't. It is too awesome.
I also have an AT&T N1 and was thinking of switching to TMo, have you heard which markets they were using the 1900mhz in?
I was also thinking of getting the Galaxy Nexus, hopefully on someone beside Verizon.
I have also had N1 from release. I was getting bored, but I just recently installed one of the ICS builds. Very nice!
im feeling almost the same way, but I've only had this phone for about 6 months now... I bought it used on ebay.
Don't get me wrong, I love it.
Yeah it shame to let it go. I don't wanna. With devs here in xda, I feel like my N1 could live forever.
With all these new tech, Im just jealous and want to get it. But 600 dollar is alot to fork over. I have a special reserve just for tech but every time I think of pulling the trigger my N1 screams why. It still runs smooth, flawless and just the right size, it feels. Maybe new case will change my mind. Lol. I just can't wait for CM9 or ICS.

I think i'll keep mine until the next Nexus phone...
Other than the internal storage and touchscreen issues, it's still really a great phone.
The upgrades are not very compelling... The only reason to upgrade sooner was if it developed some fault and i can't be bothered to fix it.

I have not. My AT&T plan resets tomorrow, I believe, so today is kind of D-Day for my AT&T plan. I plan to port my number to Google Voice today and then renew my T-Mobile plan (I tried it out in November for one month).
There is a forum on HoFo where people have been reporting getting the new band. The here is the link for the forum: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1748317-Post-here-if-you-have-noticed-1900MHz-3G-on-an-iPhone-or-other-device
I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus too, especially because it was on sale on DailySteals the other day for $565 I believe. But...meh. Technology will only get better and better, and with the support here on XDA for the N1, I believe there is really nothing that the N1 won't be able to accomplish.

I'm holding out for the 32GB GSM Galaxy Nexus. I'm hoping T-Mobile will eventually offer it under contract so I can use my upgrade subsidy--I re-upped a 2-year family plan back in May so my wife could upgrade from a G1 to a G2X. The biggest downsides to the GN for me are the lack of a microSD card slot and a trackball. The first is nearly inexcusable. The second is unfortunately the new standard.
Though there aren't official CM nighties, there are some nice KANG builds out there that are pretty much the same thing--just gathering up the changes since the #253 official build. I'm using temasek's build, available here. The newest builds have been very stable.

My thoughts too.
lol, I feel like I walked into an N1 support group...
I was pretty confident I was going to upgrade to the GN, because I can get full subsidies from my carrier, but I need to pay it all upfront (I'll be buying it independently). When I thought about it some more, the GN isn't enough of a jump.
I mean, I've been with the N1 since it's launch, and it's served me so well. Yes, we all have that stupid synaptics touch screen, the terrible lack of internal storage and a camera I simply don't like using because of the quality. I personally would've liked the look of the N1 better without the trackball, but I can't say it hasn't been super useful. I think without the trackball though (and perhaps some less bland colors) it could've easily been the prettiest phone I've ever seen.
Everyone around here have either iPhones or Galaxies (1, 2). I gotta say, Samsung is only getting better in their design (even with the plastics). And their screens are a big win.
But for me, I'm waiting it out with my N1. I'm even considering keeping it on Gingerbread from now on, so that my upgrade will be a real experience. I think it's incredible to think that keeping my N1 on GB will really define the N1 as "legacy". Two years and it's still holding its own against the biggest and baddest phones out there.
When quad cores start pouring, I'll be taking another look. But atm I'm happy to be at the end of the cycle where my phone is becoming legacy and soon I will move on to the next cycle - Quad core, 720p, hardware-button-less, ICS and all those goodies...
HI MY NAME IS STEVE AND I AM ADDICTED TO MY NEXUS ONE. LOL.

i heart my N1 too much
I've also had my N1 since release and I honestly having a heard time finding a phone i'd rather be using. especially now that am running ICS on it.
i love the support this phone gets and probably will keep using it even after i get a new phone.
but i highly doubt i could ever really replace it.
hi
I used my nexus one for a year and a half. I bought a nexus S for cheap a few weeks ago (I wouldn't have bought this POS for full retail price, got it for U$270 off contract), but I'm really having a hard time letting go of my "old" N1.
I really, really miss the trackball notifications and the feel of the phone. I tried to explain it to my friends, but they didn't get it. They like the way samsung phones feel ("very light! awesome!"), but I don't. I like how HTC phones feel, sturdy and heavy.
Things I REALLY miss:
- trackball
- trackball colour notifications
- how the N1 feels
- battery life
- contactless desktop dock
- non-buggy ROMs!
Things I like on the NS:
- application storage space is 1GB! awesome!
- screen is better, multitouch is not buggy
- I thought i would miss the SD card, but I don't
Things I REALLY DISLIKE on the NS:
- buggy back button, presses itself or gets stuck.
- battery life sucks
- phone is stupid.
Things I couldn't care less for in the NS:
- NFC
- contour display
- front facing camera
long story short, I'm going back to my N1 and selling this piece of crap NS, maybe i can get some more money out of it.
I was thinking about picking up a Nexus S. Since ICS was released I was tempted. I also found some under 300. Glad I didn't.

I bought a brand new Nexus One last month. After hours of browsing on the internet looking at as many phones as possible, the N1 just stood out for some reason. And since owning it I haven't regretted my decision one bit.
In fact, my 82 year old Grandad has just bought one (over the iPhone too)!!
One thing that has actually amazed me about the N1, is that it can get a GPS lock in under 10 seconds when I'm indoors. Less than 5 when I'm outside. The first time I did it indoors my mind almost exploded. My old HTC Legend took ~30 seconds, and just couldn't really do it indoors. Not that being able to get GPS when I'm in my own house is of any use whatsoever, but I just thought it was epic
Never give up the N1 until something absolutely epic comes out, which, at the moment (at least IMO), there is not one phone worth forking out so much money for.
Long live the Nexus One!
I like it too. Hehe!

I like that one...
Anyone worrying about losing color notifications from the trackball - just letting you know the GNex has color notifications, the led is just hidden under the bezel (brilliant!).

Google actually listened. Prob one thing I like about GN. And also ICS, screen and ..... who am I kidding? I like the damn thing. But obviously not enough to take me away from my N1.
