can I transform my droid2 a955 into a r2d2 version hardware exclusive, of course? I would like to have the device run like the r2d2 (themes, extras, etc.)
thanks
There is a system dump out there that would give you all the stuff the Droid 2 R2D2 had (minus the lock screen).
Or you could find the sbf file specific to the R2D2 Droid 2 (if it exists) and flash it. That would give you the lock screen, which the other way doesn't.
any idea where it is?
I see bits and pieces of it everywhere, but don't know where the full dump is. Give me a bit, I have an idea.
Edit: Scratch that. I thought I had the dump, but I can't find it anywhere. Google search for it. You can find the wallpaper (live and static), the sounds, the boot animation, and the apps/widgets. The lock screen is a bit harder to find.
I used my TBH app and it says it has the R2D2 Froyo 2.2 - flashed it but it didn't do anything
It probably just had the version of Froyo that the R2D2 droid had, but not the theme/content that came with it.
Don't know what else to tell you. If I could have found my copy of the dump, I would have uploaded you. Sorry.
This is old but it could work for you:

I saw that too. I wasn't sure how good it was and wasn't sure if he wanted to ROM or just theme his D2. That's why I didn't mention it.
thanks - great find - I downloaded the ROM (Full) to my SD, rebooted into Bootstrap and wiped - installed the full Star Wars ROM but it just brought the D2 back to stock 2.3.2 - weird - didnt change a thing - did I do something wrong?
nevermind - think i got it - all except the boot aniumation whcih i have in a sepewrate zip...thanks!
Congrats! Hope you enjoy it.
Mind sharing it with the rest of us?
Much thanks and appreciations will be given.

I know. This is the hero forum. But if anyone has a droid or knows someone with one maybe we can get a dump?
Forgot to, post the link

awesome! i'd expect you goons to have vanilla 2.0 ready for the mass sprint crowd by tomorrow right? lol isn't a dump all we'd need? pardon for my ignorance but what changes would be made to be compatible to the cdma hero?
Excellent! Now we just need a full rom dump (not just the /system folder which is all that's available right now).

I could use those apk's to build a "fuller" AOSP... that is assuming data can be made to work.
Thats what I'm hoping for. So please everyone who has access to a droif, root it and get a dump for us. Please
I was excited for droid users to find out it had been rooted. Now I am really excited because I didn't even think of the benefits it would bring to us!

Sweet. Post back here if they provide it please. I can only watch so many forums. heh.
So let me get this straight, a full dump from the Droid will help us get 2.0? If so AWESOME! I have a friend who has one, I'm sure he'll be rooting tonight I can get a dump tomorrow if you don't get one sooner.

It's more of a theory than anything. But if we can get their rom booting on our phone then we have a much better chance of getting things working rather than the gsm version we've been hacking up to try and work.
If anyone has access to a rooted droid then let me know. Although it will be much better once they have access to nandroid because pulling these files while the phone is booted up doesn't always work.

I don't think that's true.. our kernel/drivers are way different than theirs.. we will be about the exact same point that we are now, and there are full rips out of the droid now on alldroid.org

I agree but it's a lot easier to make a trackball work, to make leds work, and to make wifi work rather than trying to make it work on a radio that it wasn't designed for.
The image that the guy posted on alldroid is corrupted. It won't unyaffs. And based on the file size I would say it's just a system dump anyways.
Thanks to whitewidow I was able to get my hands on the boot.img by copying it off of /dev/mtd. The build went smoothly however it reboots instantly after the HTC logo. It is never recognized by the debugger. So this is either caused by corruption from how we obtained the boot.img, or the architecture / processor are just too different to work on ours at all. I am not the type that can build kernels from scratch though so maybe someone out there better than me will get it soon.

I'm pretty sure stuff compiled for the OMAP arch. Droid is not going to work in our Qualcomm arch. Heroes. I tried using "chat-ril" executable from Droid on my Hero and that doesn't work at all. OMAP and MSM have their own kernel trees as well, so their kernel probably won't boot on the Hero.
It's OMAP alright.
You wont get any of the normal binaries to run.
You can however grab some apks from it.
There is a dump out already btw, has been for almost a month now.
There has been a system dump yes but we are talking about a full dump including the boot.img file.
Boot image contains nothing useful for our purposes.
If you absolutely have to have the boot image someone posted it over on alldroid.org.
is it possible to get the new lockscreen from newly updated droid as verizon has spreaded 2.01 update for droid? cheers
I have rooted and installed JRummys Load_theme. Only problem is I need a theme!!
Was going to try one of the Froyo themes for Droid 1 but I do not know what version is in the droid 2 - FRG01B, FRG22, FRG22D, ?????
So... anyone have a theme or can anyone tell me what version the D2 is?
Thanks
I would love some themes also, I haven't rooted yet but once there are themes and/or roms I will go right ahead.
I managed to get the SenseX theme for the Droid X to sort of work. Unfortunately though for the text colors to be correct the phone needs to be deodexed and I have yet to figure out a way to do that on the Droid 2. I've tried doing it manually a few different ways with xUltimate but unfortunately doing so always results in a boot loop that I need to reflash the phone to get out of. I don't know if anybody has come up with a working way to deodex a Droid 2 yet.

This worked for me.
A while back I requested the lockscreen sliders from the R2-D2 Droid2 to be ported to our Glaciers and it was kind enough to have been fulfilled by Rich2Thad. It looks and works great with CM7 RC1. He based it on MrDSL's Mixer Theme. I had also done some personalization to it once he got everything functioning on it. Since RC2 came out and MrDSL released a version of his theme that works with RC2, I went ahead and merged the Star Wars theme with the new Mixer. Everything works great, except the call answer screen. I cannot get it to show the proper lockscreen sliders. I copied the files into the same places that Rich had used in the RC1 version. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong I would really appreciate it!
Here's the link to download the RC2 Star Wars theme.
I want to say thank you to MrDSL for his killer Mixer theme. Without it I would not have my super pimp Star Wars theme! And also thank you to Rich2Thad! Because without him I would also not have my super pimp Star Wars theme! It really does make other nerds drool!
I believe the png's you are looking for are in the phone.apk. You can modify them just like the frameworkres.apk. Hopefully this helps you out.
Edit: Just pull the images from the old phone.apk and place them in the new phone.apk.

No, I never got the call screen working. I tried to edit your most recent theme in apk format to try to get this working too. But whenever I try to install it, it says application not installed. I'm at kind of a loss as to what to try next. :/

It looks correct to me..I assume you're using the apk? After you replaced the images did you resign the .apk? It won't install without being signed..
If you don't know how then attach your modified version of my .apk here and I will sign it for you and repost it when I get home..
Use the newer Mixer_03.apk
edit...after looking at the images you want to replace you would need to use the metamorph file since the theme engine doesnt work with the lock screen..give me a few here
I did not sign it! That would be the reason! I think I can get it signed with Android Commander. Thanks so much for looking at it! If I run into any problems with signing I'll post it up. Thanks again!
EDIT: I looked at your thread on the General Themes forum and it only has Mixer_02.apk
The lock images you will have to use a metamorph on cause they won't work in the apk but all the other images can go directly in the apk..I would go ahead and put all the images there so they are there but the lock screen you will have to use a metamorph..
Follow?
Sorry Mixer_02 cause I havent released Mixer_03 yet.
I'm pretty sure I follow. Just replace the images in your metamorph zip with the images I have for the lockscreen.

Thanks so much for all your help man! I cannot wait to get out of class so I can finish building this! And thanks for your badass theme! It is a perfect base!
In your new theme, is it supposed to remove the power control bar in the notification drawer?
EDIT: Nevermind a reboot fixed it. So weird though.
So are you going to share your nifty new Star Wars theme? I was using the old one too but of course have since moved on since it's been "outdated". I'd love to give your new one a try though.

Mostly what he is doing is just replacing some images from my .apk..What you could do is install the Mixer.apk and then just apply his metamorph to it.
So hopefully he will share his metamorph..
Absolutely I will! I just finished it up. I'm getting errors when unzipping my metamorph, but it installs just fine. I got it up and running. I will also upload my version of your theme if you're okay with it.
Okay... I posted the MetaMorph zip in your thread MrDSL. Here is a link to the post.

Sorry if this has been asked but I have just ordered a Milestone 2 and i was wondering whether the Droid 2 ROMs would work on the Milestone 2. I know people say no but i remember reading in the D2G forums about a little patch you can implement to make D2 roms work on D2G - Isn't the hardware and drivers the same apart from the EVDO/CDMA part of the antennae?
Thanks, Jack
I tried to install a ROM designed to work on the D2G and I bricked my Milestone 2 so I advise you to not try it
I might have done something wrong but I won't test again as I had to restore my system with RSD Lite (and it's a pain in the a*s).
Well that sucks - wonder why it bricked it D:
I hope you did something wrong and it does work. I will just try when i get my phone.
If it doesn't i will either install ArgenROM or overclock to 2GHz
D2 custom roms mostly work, however the issue with those is that they do not initialise with the UMTS radio, instead they use CDMA. By "mostly", I mean "everything except for the phone part". All the difficult bits (wifi, GPS, camera etc etc) work perfectly. I've flashed the APEX rom to my phone without issue.
It's possible, when we can work it out, that we can force them to boot with the UMTS radio. When we've worked this out, we should be home free, thus giving us a few more roms to use =)

There is a file you can flash on the d2g to initialise the UMTS radio once a D2 rom is installed - I wonder if that would work?
What file?
Would you upload it? In a update.zip way?

If you can find it for me, I'm more than willing to try!
The "file" is called D2G romer tool. Yes, it is an update.zip which you install from clockwork recovery. It will NOT work on Milestone 2. However, the approach taken creating the romer tool can be used with Milestone 2 to create similar file based on Milestone 2.
Romer is far from perfect though. If you want to know more, google for Get~R~Done team, or go to droidforums.net and navigate to Droid2 Global section.

Lets hope we can get some ROMs a Flashin' on the MS2 then
I've downloaded that file. So by, let's say, replacing all files from that update.zip with files from the Milestone 2 Stock ROM, we would be able to create a "MS2 Romer"..?
There are quite some files to replace, but I think I might try it out this weekend!

Hah! Messing around, I've managed to get a version of APEX to boot. However, in my messing I removed all the bits that make it APEX, but the rom does boot with the apex logo and the different key map, and the phone part works too..
Pretty sure I know what to modify to get this work... gonna mess some more :3

Well this is a start- just shows we are getting there
Also, The milestone's BL is blocked but devs just load the system files such as SenseUI or other ROMs without replacing kernels. With some tweaks would it be possible to port Sense 2.2/2.3 to the MS2? (I like blur but sense is good too and i tend to chop and change roms on my current phone)
Yay! Congratulation!
I see MM2 community raise. Now I don't have any arguments, I will buy MM2

Theoretically it's possible to bring across SENSE. Not sure how deeply it integrates, I don't know a lot about sense. Theoretically you could replace the bits of BLUR with Sense, dunno for sure yet. The fact that sense exists on non-sense devices makes me believe it's possible :3
But like someone said before, the camera probably wouldn't be working because of the integration of its libraries into the kernel

If the camera itself is a part of sense, then sure. But otherwise, D2 roms have working camera on them on MS2.

Just to check make sure all animations are turned on under settings>display
just as well do not make your animations fast with spare parts, they need to be set to normal.
At that point the crt animation should be working IF it's included in the build.
Can anyone verify? I don't have a droid x

Oh. Well either way it should be on it's default settings..
Even with all animations enabled in settings and in spare parts, the CRT animation doesn't happen .
I guess it's for Samsung, SE, LG and HTC phones only then ..sad sad..
It's not just that only LG and HTC put it into their builds, Google included it in Gingerbread... Motorola just took it out, but that's not to say we won't have someone dev up a rom with this very important feature included.

I have also confirmed this method works. As stated by silver2ks4, make sure to use moto-res.apk as the dependee apk. Also, avoid trying to shortcut this process by using RootExplorer, as you will more than likely encounter a boot loop (I know from experience ). Be sure to use ADB as prescribed by the OP. All of the steps are there, and the process takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Really nice effect!
Awesome! I followed the instructions and it worked quite nicely. To be honest, this was the number one UI aspect I was looking forward to in gingerbread and I was so sad to see it not present in Motorola's build. Thanks a million for the link to the tutorial.
Is there a non-adb method to getting this to work? ya know for us folk who have never used adb before.
