Its a feature to preserve the life span of the battery. It turns charging off at about 95 then runs in battery till it drops and charges back to 95.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Yeah same here. Stops at 95% I thought there was something wrong but searched and seems that it is like this. If you leave screen on and plugged in it will charge to 100% but I think it goes down to 95% real quick after unplugging it.

its a myth that people think it will make battery last longer but it wont because otherwise all phones would do it not just nexus s and plus battery technology is far better than that so that is bull S**t saying its to make battery last longer

Thats a very intelligent response. Too bad the Nexus S isnt the only phone that does this...
i posted this in a similar thread in Q&A yesterday evening...
just so you know, its possible to charge to 100%. you just need to finish charging with the screen on. if it stops charging before you turn on the screen, unplug it then plug it in. honestly, im not looking 3 years down the road. im looking to get the most out of my battery now.

If you get an external charger then the batteries charge to 100%, but in the phone mine only goes to 94%.
I bought 2 batteries and external charger combo on eBay and that charges to 100%. Been really impressed with the batteries. Now I have 2 fully charged spare batteries on my person at any given time.

Charge to 95, turn your phone off, plug it in, wait til battery shows full, repeat a couple of times (plug/unplug) A little trick I learned coming from an Evo

what issue? this isnt an issue, its intentional.
Funny thing is, if the system menu showed 100% charged but was in fact only 95% charged, nobody would EVER notice.
Perception is reality. That missing 5% bugs the hell out of people even though it's intentional. I hope Google makes the meter show 100% with the same charge level (95%) just to shut people up.

My NS (TMo 2.3.4) always would charge to 96%. In the last day or so it's started charging to 100% out of nowhere. Odd. Hopefully it's not over-charging. Maybe it's typical recalibration or something, but it seems odd.
Edit: I should add I've had it since mid march, so it's not like I just got it. It's been doing the 96% charge all along until now.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
The stops-at-95% is not intentional. It's a known bug with the battery driver. The Nexus One had the same exact problem, and someone fixed it. The NS hasn't been fixed yet.
Showing 100% but then dropping to 95% instantly upon removal from AC power would be intentional (once Samsung devices get to 95%, they trickle charge to 100%, then stop and let it run back down to 95%, then repeat, etc). My old Vibrant would do that... it would show 100%, but upon unplugging it, it would immediately drop to 96-99%.
Li-Ion cells have built-in overcharge protection circuits, and all SGS and similar devices will trickle-charge and drop between 95 and 100%. The phone doesn't need a third "protection." It is a bug, not a feature!

I have bought GS3 2 days ago from Dubai the GS3 is amazing, this phone is the smoothest android phone I have ever used.
The only problem I have noticed with the battery it never reaches 100% it only reaches 99% when trying to get a full charge
So far I get with this battery nearly 8 hours and 30 mins to 9 hours with heavy usage, my phone is still unrooted so I didn't have a chance to try any juice defending apps.

I dont think anything is wrong with that....mw galaxy s doesnt reach 100% eighter...i think it has something to do with android protecting battery from overcharging

That isn't too impressive. However, you can expect the battery life to improve quite a lot after about 4-5 full charge cycles. Thanks for posting your experience

Thanks for sharing your experience. Out of all my experience i can tell after few charges you would get a better battery life, up to 15% increase.
guys dont forget,if you need better battery life your first charge cycle should be a complete one without any interruption.
for a full charge cycle do i have to discharge the battery to 0% or just 1-5%

should that be with the phone off as well? i have read that as well.
thanks for sharing. 8.30 hours of heavy use is respectable(if you can define heavy use it will be better though), but i had managed to get that with HOS on heavy use, even less so im confident it should be fine!
So confident i have already pre ordered a second battery as well! haha
I have been using the phone heavily since the past 12 hours which includes constant connection to 3g or wifi networks, app downloads, navigation for about half an hour, half hour of calls, 20+ texts, about an hour of streaming YouTube to my tv using twonky and I'm still at 35%.
And since the device is new so all my friends and colleagues have been checking out its sound, video and camera.
I haven't even been through my first full cycle yet and the results for me are pretty satisfactory so far.
Also it was connected to the car Bluetooth for about 45 mins and I had 15 mins of calls during that time.

Urban legend...
"It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery's life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run your device under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in your user's manual."

Guys, the screen on time is the one we really need to see. It's the screen that really impacts the battery life on an amoled phones. Please try to include those in your screen shots.
Take this screen shot I just took from my GN for example. May look like great battery life but what you don't see is that the screen has only been on for 35 mins, so it's nothing at all special.

I think all Android users faced some issues with battery status..
Ex. When the phone charged 80% if restart it the battery might decrease by 5% each time... while when it's less than 10% each time the battery decrease from 1-2% max ! ... that's really not reasonable
In addition, when i charge my phone 8 hour the battery would stay 17 hour.. while if i change it until it's got 100% charged "according to battery status" it wouldn't stay on more than 10 hours!!! Wipping battery and other solutions also didn't help by the way !!!!

I will try that
I had a similar problem and never solved it. My battery typically lasts 32 hours new. After a few weeks it went to 16. Frustrated I let it "die" to find that it actually continued to run for 16 additional hours literally at 0%.
Unplugging the battery fixed it for that current charge cycle but upon recharging it went back to its old ways.
I eventually went through the trouble to purchase an OEM replacement and further open up my Razr M to replace. Things were great for another couple of weeks until the same exact problem happened again.
Frustrated I go back and forth between my Inc 4g and my Razr M depending on if I need a reliable battery read (traveling, etc). I like the Razr M so much I might just buy another and hope it doesn't crap out like this one, but then again there is probably a new season of Droid devices coming in a few months.

Hello, My original LG wall adapter got wet, i wiped away all the water i could, and let it dry out for day.
After that I plugged my N4 into it, and my battery just jumped from 70% to 100% in a blink. I unplugged it imminently, and phone thought it was still charging for like 10 seconds, and then my battery percentage went back to 70%.
It's been a few days since this event. I'm worrying about whatever damage it might have caused.
Battery life isn't great. i get about 1.5 SOT when I hit 40%. standby time are as the used to be, but when using the phone the battery seems to drain more. (WIFI OFF WHEN NOT AT HOME ,ALL GOOGLE LOCATION SERVICES DISABLED, ON 3G 24/7)
Is there any real test to see if there is really any damage ?
I hope I'm just imagining. Maybe the charger didn't went bad at all? after all is it a known bug when nexus jumps to 100%.
The wet adapter charged my Other galaxy S2 just fine..
Here is some ridiculous screen.barely 10 minutes screen on an a short phone call and its already down 5%

5% down, in 1 hr and 15 minutes, with 10~ minutes of screen on time, and some phone calls is not really that bad imho.
You should probably get a new charger, seems like something is messed up within the charger, due to being exposed to water.
Is there any way to determine if the phone itself received damage ? I's there any chance at all ?
Only the plastic of the charger was exposed to water ..
anyway I'm using apple Iphone adapter since then.
I think the best way to tell if it received any damage is to just use it normally.
Charge it normally, through the iphone adapter for now, and see if the problem re-occurs.
I do notice battery drains quicker , My friend's nexus, which was from an older batch, drained 2% after 10 mins in google chrome, auto brightness.
mine drains 8% , same brightness, no application running in background. betterbatterystats shows nothing unusual.
Is this normal? Totally Moderate use.

That's what I call a really defective battery...
Cann you post the first 5 or 8 characters of the serial number from the box? This might be an isolated issue for a single battery or a line of devices with the same supplier for the battery.
Haha this reminds me of my old HTC hero.
As that was a removable battery it was encased in a plastic housing.
I just remember coming to it one day and finding the back cover half off.
When I removed it the battery looked like an egg!
Funny enough I just squeezed it back to it's sort of original shape and it still works fine to this day (backup phone)

My N4 was turning off randomly and draining battery suddenly from 90% to 50% on so on. I sent my phone to LG service center and they said they have no solution for this problem. The second day my battery doubled size and the back of the phone was no more flat (luckily it didnt break). So i went and changed the battery now my N4 is working fine again with no problem, but sometimes it get overheated with no reason
My battery isn't bloated, but after a red light of death, I'm getting about 1hr 30 mins on 3g (used to reach minimum of 3hrs) and 2hrs or less in wifi (used to get 5hrs+) which sucks :/, gonna get a replacement tomorrow.

Yeah, this.. Staying at "100%" is completely artificial. As soon as you hit 99.4% it should show 99%, but I imagine that leads people to think the battery is depleting fast, so they've done something to make it show 100% longer.
What's interesting to me is that it's the same on custom ROMs as well, so it's not something the ROM itself is doing.

I think it's the battery technology that does that. Android seems to be written for different battery tech.
Also I don't like the flexible metering. Play for hours, set it aside a few minutes and battery percentage increases.
I hate it in cars also, I want a meter to show how much I got exactly lol.

On CM11 mine will usually adjust down to 99% fairly quickly. If I wake up and start browsing after taking it off the charger, the circle will get a notch out of it usually within about 5-10 minutes.
Lol.

Basically leaving it charging despite having reached 100% so it trickle charges for an extra hour. It seems to have improved the battery life.
