Rom battery life. - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I been bouncing from Rom to Rom like a maniac this week and I know this has probably been asked a million times before but ima ask anyways and anyone is welcome to answer which Rome have the best and longest batteries with out giving up performance? From my experience anything Gingerbread or asop has had the longest but I'm curious about which kernels n stuff would b recommended on royal Ginger right now.
P.s I love sense but they're to heavy on battery from what I've experienced

The battery you get is all dependent on how you use the Phone, if you are a heavy user you can't expect 2 days out of the battery, lite users can manage a day or more. Personally I'm loving MIUI now, I listen to music, maybe some games, phone calls, internet[4g], etc and I can mange 1 day if I try. I couldn't really kill it in under 8hrs if I wanted to. After you flash a ROM, you should try this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11803458&postcount=10

RoyalGinger has amazing battery life. Just make sure to calibrate your battery after flashing and give it a couple days to "settle". I have gone 36 hours with moderate use and wi-fi on nearly all the time without charging. There have been people that went much longer.

GenerationX is the best.

ive tryed a ton myself and honestly i dont think there is a rom better than GenerationX...they removed a ton of crap you dont need and it is super small and is superfast...which = way better battery!! try it out man and let me know

Yea I calibrate all the time and royals been good. I'd say I'm a pretty heavy user mainly texting like all day long some music SN games. Yesterday I only got 9 hours 27 mins on royal Ginger once I went up to 17 hours. I was just curious cause I see so many ppl posting screen shots of ridiculous battery life that I can't even get close too on the same roms. Like 3.0 roms lasts me like 6 hours n I'll deff try that Rom then thanks

yeah man, let me know what you think...i fricken love it!

GenerationX wishes it was RoyalGinger...Used it for 10 minutes and had to go back.

also consider there has been some reports of excessive battery drain caused by the tmo service itself before counting out any specific ROM. supposedly tmo is working on the issues. i really like the new VU but AOSP ROMs feel so clean, hard to choose. maybe i should just get a second phone

If you want to try out a different kernel for better battery life, flash one of faux's. He is pretty focused on battery life. demonspeed kernels from Thederekjay are pretty sweet too. They can be used with royalginger and cm7 post night91 or 92.

I agree, Faux and thederekjay make some kick ass kernels. youll also have to tweak the rom to your likings for better battery life (ex. disabling haptic feedback, lowering screen timeout, syncing, etc...) theres also an app called Watchdog task manager and it notifies you of "rogue apps" that consume too much power. give it a shot

Yea Generation X im running v5 its pretty sick i like the way everything flips n stuff and i love the Demonspeed kernel its sick love all the govenors n the fact that i can underclock when screen is off below 245 thats pretty sick but atm generation x is only lasting me bout 8 to 9 hours its a possibility that its the actuall tmo service but i never really had this issue before when Cm7 first came out i was in love lasted me up 17 hours which is alot for me considering im on it all day long for business and all but i need some change in my life be able to flash roms as much as i do stops me from buying a new phone every couple weeks lol . I think ima try the new royal ginger 3.0 but will i be able to flash the Demonspeed kernel on that one?. i really like the way everything flips and stuff when you open an app on generation X is that a setting or is that like unique to only that rom? also anyone know the difference between scary, demonspeed, minmax, and Smartass governors? kinda curious i searched it found in depth detail bout regular ones like conservative ect but i tend to lag on conservative phone takes a while to open n jump up to speed for decent performance. anyways thanks for the help and suggestion guys sorry if i ask to many questions lol

1. yes you can use the demonSPEED kernel with RG 3.0
2. the screen transitions and animations can also be used with different launchers from the market, like LauncherPro or ADW being the most popular ones. just look under "menu>launcher settings"
3. Faux and thederekjay give details for their kernels in the OP of their threads, and which governor is which:
Faux's AOSP v1.0.7 kernel
thederekjay's demonSPEED v5 kernel
hope this helps you out

Yea thanks a bunch

Stable rom with sense and good battery life

Hi,
My girlfriend has an evo 4g and I'm looking for a stable rom with sense and good battery life. I have a galaxy S so I know a lot about those roms and I've browsed this development forum but I'd be interested to hear the voice of experience.
She doesn't understand this stuff so I want it stable. All she knows is her battery life sucks and it's really laggy. I'm hoping we can fix it.
Thanks,
JOe K.

simple read what people say every rom will act a little different on each phone
What has been your experience?

I've used EViO 2, Warm 2.2 RLS5, MikFroyo, Fresh, Kings Unleashed, Koni's Elite, Ava, Azrael and probably a few others. Minimally, you should try MikFroyo, Warm and Azrael IMHO. go to the threads and look at the screenshots to see which you like. Then pick one and try it and maybe try a couple kernels. If you don't like it, switch.
All of those have sense and should be very stable. Every phone is diff though.
I used Warm 2.2 RLS4 and 5 for quite some time with the included kernel. Always stable; no problems. Battery was reasonable--even when i spent all day in the office (weak signal), i was still fine at the end of the day.
Thanks for the input. I want to avoid flashing very often. I want to go one and done (ideally).
But you've narrowed my search considerably. What gave you the best battery life of the 3 you suggested?
Thanks,
JOe K.

im on mikZ and over 16 hours of moderate to heavy use here
had really good luck with warm2.2 too(more complete). hope this helps
EViO 2 gave me the best battery life by far. I didn't use any of the others long enough to tell other than MikFroyo which was also good. I would just pick Myn's Warm or MikFroyo, whichever you like best. Those are the two most popular.
I'd give Sprint Lovers a shot. As close to stock as you can get with everthing functioning. Then try out some of the netarchy kernels. Remember to backup before flashing any kernel. I've tried CM and Warm Z, but keep going back to SL.

Best Battery Life..

Hi, let me first say sorry for this post. I know there are a million..
I do not have a Inc but my daughter does, last time I messed with it, I put CM7 rc3 on it right when rc3 was released. ever since then I have not read one word on the development of this phone. The phone runs good but battery life could be better.
Is there anything better than CM7? looking for the best battery life possible. Please suggest ROM/Kernel. sense or senseless.
Thanks,
Coming from an avid user of Sense I would say CM7, MIUI, and OMGB or OMFGB are the "best" with battery as they are stripped of Sense. If you don't get good battery life with any of those AOSP roms, kernel combo or not, there isn't much more anyone can do.
I only use Sense roms but I know if battery life & Senseless were my thing, I would have an AOSP rom. Not sure on kernels, the crowd can fill you in on their experience.
Best bet would be to flash incredikernel, and then dl incredicontrol from the market. Stick with cm7, use the underclocking app of your choice, and then use incredicontrol to lower the voltages at different frequencies...if it reboots, go one back until its stable.

That's what I did, lasts me all the way through the day now lol. Its a snug fit, but it fits.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running some random CM7 nightly.
I would suggest flashing the newest CM nightly. There have been some changes and kernel tweaks since rc3.
I'm on 10 1/2 hours sitting at 70%, albeit light use, but still I usually get at least a day and a half with moderate use.
I'm a big fan of Jermaine's In-Sensitive Minimalist ROM. It has by far been the fastest and best on battery life for me.
I'm on the latest cm nightly. I use incrediblekernel with aggressive voltage. I have CPU set to 128 min and 664 Max. I could last all day plus with moderate to heavy usage.

Mcsense 2.2 with tinys 8/31 kernel with smartass. Rom looks great and fantastic battery. Personally, ill never use aosp on my phone again. Never had that "great" battery life others claim. I can overclock tinys to 1.113, minimum 245, and its very stable, very fast, and i get a good 12+ hours with HEAVY use. Thats on a stock day one battery. Ive got about as old a dinc you can get, been rooted longer than i can remember, and flashed atleast 3 to 4 times most weeks. Tryin out newts new runny rom now, dont know about battery yet on it. Good luck dude.

I'll second this. In-Sensitive Minimalist takes out almost all of the bloat of Sense, but leaves in the framework and the best apps. With Tiny's modules and SetCPU you can basically get it to run for days with minimal usage and 24-30 hrs with normal usage on a 1500mAH battery, which are $10 from Amazon.com and a good deal.
If you want to stick with Sense, that's the ROM to use. Otherwise, CM is a good choice.

[Q] noob with atrix on alien4

Hello, i just bought an atrix on ebay with alien4 and was wondering if i should stay with this rom or not? I have no mod experience on this phone. I would like to get better battery life and get rid of blur if possible. It might just have a weak battery, but it goes down fast when im not even using it. I believe it is unlocked bootloader. I dont want to go crazy, just like a nice setup thats fast and good on battery life. Thanks!!
Try the current rom out for a while, and then give CM7 a shot...

There are a few different choices. Definitely get comfortable first with flashing ROMs. Use the guides here in the forum to teach yourself how to do it. After reading the guides, read them again. You do not want to end up bricking your phone.
A few I myself have tried are CM7, HomeBase and Aura. I use HomeBase as my daily driver. My battery life has been pretty good. I usually get around 36 hours with pretty heavy usage of streaming music and videos.

I would give HomeBase a spin, but just remember that the de-blurred Moto ROM's do have certain things missing just have to read about whats there and see if you can live without it. I personally use HomeBase 2 which is slightly de-blurred and it looks and feels like a vanilla ROM. Some blur is good. Definitely read through a few posts and guides in the Development section to get a handle of whats going on and then start trying things out. I don't know what recovery you have but I would suggest first going to this link and learn a little:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Atrix_4G
Then going to this link to get the latest recovery (it will save you some headaches):

As for the battery thing, try calibrating. If that doesn't work, it could need a battery with it being a used phone.
I tried Homebase and Aura a couple days ago, and I went back to Alien#4. Couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like them. But you should try all the ROMs you think you might like and see what works best for you.
I get really good battery with light-medium use, and my phone is very smooth. So if it helps, here's my setup:
Alien#4
Faux's OC Kernel 2.0 (to 1.3GHz)
Undervolted (75, 75, 75, 75, 100, 100, 100)
SetCPU "Screen Off" Profile to clock down to 456000Max
The biggest battery killer by far with that setup is the screen. There's a mod in the development forums that can lower the brightness much more than the stock minimum, but I haven't bothered with it. I only use my phone in quick bursts most of the time; check an email, send a text, etc. so it's not that big a problem for me. I can go couple days without needing a charge.

Let the phone die then charge it while the phone is off. Once the LED turns green leave it in the charger for another 2 hours or so. The turn it on and download battery calibration app and run that. Do that a couple times and you'll be good!

I just got done with my first full drain on both of my Anker batteries that I purchased, I honestly only bought them because they are a slightly bigger mAh and it came with 2 and a external charger so I could charge both at the same time, this way I can go super hardcore usage all the time, and never fear of battery... I still barely need the second one.. But still it will still depend on what you're needs/expectations from this particular device are.. I don't use a PC for anything.. Since my father does not like me on it, I type school papers on my phone sometimes and everything, so I rely on my phone to be there.
So
maybe just use the phone for a week and gauge what your going to need, also keep an eye on those partial wake percentages found in spare parts, or betterbatterystats on the market (not free :/)
As those wakes amount to some battery wastes.
Hopefully you can sift through this and grab some info any other questions i'm here.

I think they are advertised with 1700 mAh ... There right around 1400 but its two of them which is why I got em. I think 26$ for the while thing. Amazon, would you like the link?
Yes TJD's MIUI has a lot of battery improvements, I use that but I just can't get myself to like the MIUI because I guess it is like the iPhone too much. I am currently running CM 7 nighties because I love the cm thing, always have, I like the royal ginger 3.0 but doesn't seem like team royal is on that ship anymore. :/ shame, its a very fast ROM!

thanks those are the ones i was looking at and i think the white ones by Anker are the 1700 mAh the reviews in this alot of people say its 1400mAh I really want a 1700mAh if I am buying lol
and cool i will keep looking into MIUI was there still a big need to get new batteries using that ROM or you just see your battery getting weak period?
and with the battery improvements in MIUI does that mean gaming with cut the rope samurai 2 and fruit ninja will kill battery less?
This morning was last step in the battery calibration and battery is on 94% been on 1 hour and 31 mins with no calling at all just text and one reboot to fix some settings in juice defender I have no data coming to my phone at all till next week when new biling cycle starts but I am not sure if this is a good reading if the battery is good or not not sure
But when I opened setcpu the mhz was up to 1000mhz I had to set it to 768mhz and scaling back to conservative.
wow during this reply 2 texts came in and battery is at 93% not sure what to do I am thinking of recalibrating the battery before either buy a new battery or try MIUI what you think is best?

Always go with the cheapest option first, MIUI, then if you need to get batteries do so.. Yes? I don't pay an extreme amount of attention to percentage, I actually prefer to look at the graphical battery because as long as I have 15% I'll b ok, and it makes it seem like it is going down slower (;
Edit:::: I am at 96% been up since 6AM when I booted up after I took it off the charger, same oc settings as previously mentioned, but in editing this post went down to 95

Well, I use Smart Keyboard PRO, because the only people I text are my gf and parents.. I call friends.. so I don't need the speedy responses this helps me pick suggestions way before I type the words. I own Swiftkey but hardly use it, for I lack the time to allow it to learn my style.. swype just doesn't jive with typing in passwords and such. I hardly have problems with SKP have used it since it was Cyril's little project when it debuted.
Now you can download the original android keyboard if you wanted to on the market I think its from Steven Lin or something... what exactly r u looking for in a keyboard?
Yea "Droid does" huh?
If you came from the iPhone I suggest using MIUI as it is like IOS a bit more then AOSP, as I'm sure u can tell.
But that's the beauty of Nandroids, don't like it? Messed up? Restore!

I seriously flashed 4 roms today, two twice since posting my percentage this morning... heavy usage the entire day, texted the entire time, and total of like 10 hours Display time... 100% brightness - 40% and I'm at 38% battery right now after finally subsiding in the CM nightlies again. I guess sense isn't my thing. And the other aosp Roms are all on like 2.3.4
Nightlies r on 2.3.7
So I guess what I'm saying is I can make it thru a whole day with extreme usage
I hope I helped somehow with everything u had a question on so far. Don't hesitate to ask anything else, I am always surfing XDA at school because I lack the interest required for note taking
Edit for typo

it could be the stock screen protecter on but I like smart keyboard pro just that its less responsive then the htc sense keyboard you know the standard keyboard with white hollow oval letter and the predictions are in rectangular oval style above looks smooth would send you a youtube link
But from you telling me your heavy usage plus switching roms I think its my battery I will flash MIUI hopefully today
and see from there and I don’t like sense earlier just feels weird I use launcher pro
And with the nightlys being 2.3.7 how come you find battery better? i am kinda confused i know games kill battery fast but what about calling n internet wifi yesterday those really hurt my battery
Also with my moto cliq I was using nightly as well I might try one do you know a safe nightly that doesn’t random reboot?
And your helping big time you have the same phone and your rooted and alls so I like the info you have shared with me thanks

how good is the stock battery life?

im buying a fascinate and coming from a locked down droid x2 i was wondering how good the battery life is on the stock oem battery with a kernel replacement and OC with screen on & UV (possible) with screen off

i think i may stick with touchwiz for a little bit and try it out, then move to trying all the ROMS. im definitely going to debloat it so ill need root first, but ive never had a samsung phone so im excited about the tw (unless its like blur then im dumping the crap like no other)

superclean3 w/ kgb kernel is a good setup. Start with deadline/ondemand, oc 1200mhz and uv -50 across the board. Although In my honest opinion AOKP glitched m-5 is the end all of roms for this device. I consistently net 30+hrs battery life with 4hrs screen on time...not to mention its fast, stable, and oh yea it's Ice Cream Sandwich baby!lol

haha nice hows ICS run on the fassy, bro? yeah im definitely going to try all the ROMS which should keep me busy for a while

no need to try the other roms, try aokp first. ics runs better on the fascinate than it does on the galaxy nexus.

I'm on the stock battery, and I'll usually get just under two days with light usage. To be clear, I used to get 10 to 12 hours on stock. Things improved dramatically on debloated stock, SC3, and TSM Res, but AOKP is tops.
For comparison, my average phone use on a working day is~
-Gtalk back and forth a dozen times or so
-A few SMSs, back and forth
-Five or ten minutes of calling at most (avoiding those brain tumors, ya know)
-Ignoring two or three calls and then listening to the messages on GV
-Ten or fifteen minutes of some mindless game
-Use Epocrates app three or four times, leaving it running in the background for 6 to 8 hours
-Gmail set to push, usually receive and respond to one or two per day
-Hotmail checks every 30 minutes, pulls in a ton of junk, I read and delete once or twice a day
-One Android Weather widget that updates every 30 minutes
-Check Gtasks to-do list once or twice a day, modify it and sync it
-Maybe a few minutes of web surfing
I'm not sure if it truly makes a difference, but I have a ritual whereby I always flash new ROMs on a full charge. I then run the battery down to nothing. I fully charge it with the phone off. Once it's full, I unplug the charger and then plug it in again to "top it off." I'm sure this is bad for the battery in the long run, but it seems to make the phone get the most out of it for now. When the battery dies, I'll cough up the $20 to get the one Droidstyle is using. It may even be $10 by the time I need it.
to OP, I sent you a PM, and replying here.
I am selling my fascinate listed in my other thread. PM me for details if you are still interested.

Make sure you use the glitched exynos build for extra RAM and lots of other fixes and features.
And ICS runs like a dream on the fascinate. The only thing that isn't perfect is the speaker phone and with a little tweaking it works well enough for almost all uses.
