[Q] Put device in standby from Terminal Emulator or Gscript - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am using CyanogenMod nightlies and would like to setup my long-press home option to shut of the screen and lock the device. There is an option to have it run a script from gscript, but I can't find the right commands. I have search the internet and haven't found anything(maybe not looking for the right thing).
I have also tried some programs from the market(didn't try them all), but they have funny side effects. The programs make the arrows that allow you to hide the status bar appear but not function, and won't go away without a reboot. They even show when I'm on the home screen.
Any help, advice, or some direction to where I could find the answer would be great.
Thanks,

[Qeustion] Notification Bar Functionality

Question for the Devs,
I have one thing that bugs me about Android: taking a ton of steps to get to places, so I had an idea, but I'm not sure if it's possible. It's a two - parter:
1) Is it possible, to put into the notification area a scrollable list of your currently running applications, or possible your most used apps? Kinda like holding down home, but it's not the same.
2) I had a program on my jailbroken iCrap back in the day: sbsettings. LOVED this program, gave me quick access to just about anything. It's kinda like the power widget, but it was accessible from sliding your finger accross the top of the screen from anywhere. Imagine having the power control widget in your notification area.
Are the two above possible, or are there limitations to what the notification bar can do. Obviously, I'd want it so that if I hit "clear" they'd still remain there. Also, I don't want just a link poining me somewhere else, I want the action to occur right from the notification screen:
I searched and searched but cannot find. Have I missed something?
Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but I figured it does have to do with development, so there ya go... Thanks in advance!
For #2 use smartbar with quick settings checked in settings for notification. It might also have #1 but I don't really poke too much around in the settings.
I use Quick Settings, which will put a notification in the pull down task bar and you have access to a number of system settings.
jkAppSwitchEX works great as a sort of AltTab type thing and you can pin it to a long press of the search button. It also can be used as a task killer and can have a list of your favorite/most used apps for easy launch (and has a recent apps list). Plus, it can put a notification in the pull down task bar. There's also a free version on the market which just shows running apps.
I also believe Folder Organizer will put apps in the task bar, I have the lite version which doesn't do that (I don't think), but I don't really need it for that, so the lite version is fine for my needs.
I've also tried SmartBar, and it does have that functionality of swiping the screen and having access to programs, etc. But it wasn't what I had been looking for when I tested it, but worth checking out.
*off topic a bit*
Sorry but it's not Qeustion it is Question
Has anyone found a way to add the power control toggles to the notification screen as seen on the Galaxy S?
if your rooted cyanogen mod have the settings in the notification like the galaxy s or you can use a app call quickdesk you can launch quickdesk by long pressing the search button or double tap the home button in any program it has this thing call quick pannel that shows you your recently used apps and the apps thats running its really slick you can also swype up on any running apps to close them. theres also another app call itchingthumb that basically do the same thing but i like the simplicity of quickdesk more you should check them out. Theres also another app call smart task bar that can also do those thing it as the most options all you have to do is swype your finger at the side of your phone to launch it. Feel free to ask me any questions about them and I'll try to answer them. Oh yeah theres another one call power strip.
I found this thread and applied the mod to the HD ROM that I'm using, it works well.

Screen height too big for Nook Touch

Been struggling with Touchnooter 1.6.24 and 1.6.22 for several weeks with a fairly new Nook Touch. Some Android system and app buttons on the very bottom don't respond. These are key buttons such as the Android Market accept terms of use, the Add app Finish button, and the SlideMe accept button. I found a work around for the home page bottom buttons that at least lets me access the app drawer. If the status bar is set to hidden the bottom buttons come up a very small amount and then respond. I haven't found a way to hide the status bar in apps though. I'm currently trying to figure out how to get the Nook recognized as a device so I can load the driver thats supposed to let me use adb to install apps. I've found that putting apps on the SD card prior to installing Touchnooter and starting the adk in Root Explorer just gives an error that non Android Market apps are blocked.
The real solution is to get everything on the screen. Presumably all the bottom buttons will work if the height could be shrunk. How do I do this?
Could BN be trying to block rooting by introducing small changes into recent Nooks?
Stumbled on a work around once I figured out how to use adb. All the google hits about using USB for adb had me confused. Once I realized that the SDK adb is made to work over wifi I was able to install Dolphin browser. I discovered that it has a setting for landscape, and that its add-ons are loaded through the Android Market. AM pops up in landscape mode and the accept button is no longer on the bottom. Now I can install software from the AM app and I can start making good use of my Nook.
I'm convinced that this isn't a peculiar fault of my Nook and that the Android window is not set right with Touchnooter for at least some Nooks, maybe the more recent ones. Unless I can find another app that sets landscape for all apps, or that allows the window size to be customized, there are still major problems with the Touchnooter package on my Nook. Can't uninstall, for example, since the prompt button is on the very bottom. Have to rm with adb.

shortcut to Metro IE

Hi,
I just instapp Win 8 cp on my Dell Latitude XT, and it seems to work pretty well.
A stupid thing I did - I removed the tile in the start screen for the immersive/metro IE, on the assumption that it would be easy to put it back, but I have no idea how to do that... Uninstalling ("turn windows features on/off") and reinstalling IE didn't help.
Any tips... ?
Thanks!
Try putting your mouse in the upper right hand corner of your screen to access the hidden sidebar. Click the search icon to access your total apps list. You should see the IE icon. Right click it to bring up your action bar at the bottom of the screen. You can repin the app to the start menu from there.
Hope that helps!

Nope, doesn't show up there. I deleted the tile from the start screen, so then it shouldn't show up there, should it? Accessing searching through applications like this, it isn't different from just typing on the start screen, is it? I have icon there that I created later for the desktop IE, but none for Metro IE (immersive). I do have Firefox as my default browser though, that might complicate things...
Just set IE as default browser and Metro IE will be back.
You can set default program for webpage as the Firefox in "Set Default Program" (by click "Choose defaults for this program" button)
Nope, that didn't work either...

[Q] holding home button

I looked around but didn't find anything, although that doesn't mean anything.
My question is that when holding the home button, you get a whole semi circle, but just giogke now or whatever that silly thing is. Is there a way of adding programs or shortcuts to this popup. I have zero use for the Google thing so seems a shame if I am unable to add more useful items to this semi circle. Could prove pretty useful.

I haven't seen anywhere you can add to that or change it. I love the google now thing, just to be able to tell it to wake me up in an hour if nothing else:laugh:
Try this app if you haven't already though, it will let you launch an app just by sliding in from the side of the screen, or bottom, or whereever you want.

Instead of launching Google Now you could get get an app launch list using 'Launch Now', which replaces default behavior. Just serach for it in PlayStore, as I may not insert links (10 posts rule)....
There's a way for people who want to hook into the swipe up action that may not be documented. Apps like "Sudo Quicklaunch" make the system switch the icon to a generic search icon and show you the standard action completion pop-up. (One can see this in the app's promotional video.) I haven't personally tested that app, but I have seen the swipe up reassignment behavior with "Secure Settings." The Secure Settings app actually changes the icon displayed by the swipe up menu, when you tell it to "Always" use that app, and Google Search does the same thing. Coincidentally, the same reassignment behavior appears to be possible with the shop icon in the stock launcher. (I saw it for myself in the days of Honeycomb with the transition from the original Honeycomb Market app to the new, unified Market app, because both were installed, it asked me to choose when I tapped shop.)

[Q] ReLaunch: Missing applications bar, Settings gear stopped working

Hi all,
Having followed the instructions I now have a non-bricked NST with NookManager and ReLaunch. I now have two fairly irritating problems, probably due to me poking around in the settings menu a bit too hard.
PROBLEM THE FIRST
In ReLaunch, my Settings gear does nothing. I press it and the screen flicks and then goes back to ReLaunch (exactly where I was in the first place). This makes my inner tinkerer sad and also makes it more than a little difficult to try and fix the issue with:
PROBLEM THE SECOND
If I go to the Nook e-book reading mode and then take myself back to ReLaunch (I'd bound it to long-press of the hardware n key before my Settings button stopped working), the entire bottom bar has vanished. Which means no Applications button, which means I can't really get to launching any of my apps, which means I have... an ebook reader. The only way I can restore it is by rebooting the NST and selecting ReLaunch from the launcher menu at startup.
Any clues?

You say you cannot access apps, so figure you have Android Market installed? You could try this - Install launcher 7, once installed, you can 'open' it from the notification. You should then be able to access your apps. Make your first port of call the Nook Touch Mod Manager.
Or you could reset the settings in ReLaunch
I have the same problem.

I even unrooted my Nook and rooted it back to fix his. Unfortunately after one use of settings, this problem occured again. Would anyone help?
Undoubtedly it hit an error and died.
What error? Look at the logcat and see.
You need ADB to see logcat.
