*siggghhhhh* Where to begin.
I've had my Samsung phone over 6 months now, and I believe it was shipped with 2.2.1 JPU firmware.
I've since moved to more recent firmwares and back again, trying to fix this issue. Now there is a possibility it worked when I first got the phone, but it's way too late to answer that - because at the time I didn't use email.
Basically I can use the inbuilt mail client, or Touchdown mail client, and the same issue occurs. I first noticed it when trying to sync a mailbox on Kerio mailserver, which is totally ActiveSync compatible. I've had the tech guys at Kerio working on this for months, looking at all logs etc and they can't pinpoint it. Same issue happens across two mail clients, two phones (mine and my flatmates). Sent items randomly sync. Either nothing, or random mails.
This also happens with the sent items on my work Exchange account too, again across both mail clients.
Kerio has tested my problem account with a Galaxy S their end, and cannot replicate the same problem.
The only common factor here, and believe me I've spend ages on this, is that I've changed the firmware from the shipped one. Is there some other settings somewhere on the phone that might affect this? Every time I've flashed the firmware, I've used Odin, followed the instructions etc. Is there something else I can do/try to maybe get this working? Am I alone? I've tried about 10 different firmwares trying to fix it and I'm about to give up and get another phone.
Help? Anyone? Please :-(
In the hope this helps someone else out there. This was down to constant rom updating, and never clearing the dalvik cache.

I was running the stock ROM up until 2 months ago and never had a problem with Exchange and push. If i was sitting at my desk and I got an email into my exchange account a couple second later my phone would by buzz with the message.
Then I rooted the phone and since then I have tried Kimera, Villian and now am on Cronos ROM. While they are way better then the stock when my exchange account is set to recieve items as they arrive it does not always do that. Most of the time if i unlock the phone a little while later I will have a bunch of messages pop up. Or I have to initiate the sync manually to see if there are any. It is the rare occasion that I actually get an email pushed to me properly. I have tried full wipes, different radios, different ROMs and the problem is always the same.
Does anyone have some suggestions on what they think the cause might be or better yet a fix.
Just tried two new ROMS this week. Problem is still occuring. Any suggestions?
tried making sure that you haven't got 3G / internet connection set to disable when idle?
My wife is having a problem that when she opens the default Email app, it displays the prompt to setup a new account. The problem is that she already has her two Exchange accounts on the phone. They both show up fine in Settings -> Accounts and Sync, they just don't work in Email. To resolve the problem, I delete both the accounts from Accounts and Sync and then re-add them. They both then work fine. However, this have happened a few times on her phone and it's kind of pain to delete and re-add the accounts over and over. I've not seen the problem on my Vibrant. Has anyone else experienced this problem and, if so, did you find a solution?
Thanks,
Yogi
I had this exact issue. I even went so far as to do a "hard reset" (i.e. Reinstall all software) and still had it happen to me. I contacted T-Mobile and they told me that I had already done everything they would suggest so they shipped me a replacement phone. So far I have not had it happen again but I have only had the new phone for a day.

Unfortunately, this is already her second phone. We exchanged the first because of freezing and connectivity issues and this one has been much better in that regard, on par with mine. I don't want to have to tell her that she got ANOTHER lemon and we need to exchange it again. I switched her over from an iPhone because we wanted to move to T-Mobile and their much more economical Even More Plus plan. If I tell her she has another bad phone, she'll probably just want to give up and switch back to AT&T and the iPhone.
Okay, so we exchanged my wife's phone again and everything worked fine for about a week. Then, she added her AOL account and within a day, the settings were deleted again. Now, the problems is the AOL account doesn't show up in Account Settings, so the only way I see to remove it is to wipe the phone completely.
And iv checked everything, sync is enabled everywhere. If I turn off sync and turn it on again, whatever is waiting comes through, but then never again. I even just did a factory reset and flashed the new update, and its still broken, before and after update. WTH could cause Gmail to stop syncing that a factory reset wont fix?????
even i am facing the same problem since this morning....gmail wont auto sync!! i have to refresh it manually.
Another thing i noticed is that i cant find the visual voicemail app in the market...does anyone have the apk for it?
wow im glad to here its not just me, i missed about 2 days worth of emails (I should have known...no way i could actually go 2 days with out some bs from work) before i realized it
Me as well. I haven't updated my phone yet.. so I don't think it's the ota causing the issue. I've missed numerous emails since yesterday.
Glad its not just me, I wonder if Gmail is borked for everyone at the moment? Im surprised we're not hearing more about this....
ive done everything but a factory reset, i have not had gmail sync since about 12pm MST
try going into settings/applications and find gmail and click it. clear the cache first and see if it works, otherwise clear data... it'll resync from scratch. this happens randomly and this usually fixes it.

ive been doing that about once an hour, still nothing.
I did both of those things multiple times, they didnt help. Then I did a factory reset, that also did nothing. I feel like if a factory reset doesn't help the problem is probably on google's end.
Mine has been doing this since yesterday (before OTA) and has been doing it today as well (since OTA).
I had to load the shipping ROM due to deleting Google Goggles before the OTA. So I doubt if a factory reset or anything will help the situation. I'm not getting automatic syncing of Gmail at all. I believe its something on Google's end. Hopefully it gets sorted out soon.

I've updated with the OTA and my gmail is syncing, so I doubt it's the update that's causing the issue. I did have this happen to me before when gmail stopped syncing, but all I had to do was to go back to "settings" -> "accounts & sync" and turn on auto-sync for gmail again.
I am only getting my gmail via manually choosing refresh. Also, deleting on the phone will not delete on my computer. Annoying. This has happened before, and seems to get resolved in a couple of days.
Seems to be an issue with other Android handsets as well.
I have a link, from Google Support forum, but since I'm a new user here, it will not allow me to submit the link.
Seems like Google is working on a fix though.
Well, that makes me feel a little bit better.
I noticed yesterday it wasn't syncing, so I followed the normal clearing of cache and data, and checked all the syncing settings.
It definitely has to be an issue on the other end for everyone to be having this problem at the same time.
same here. I thought the G2 update messed up the Gmail sync, but then I realized that my Nexus One was doing the same thing as well which I use as a tablet from time to time via wifi. Let's be patient and have Google work the issue, just a matter of time.
Easy fix
Go to settings and disable auto sync
Then turn off phone
Turn phone back on
Go to settings and enable auto sync
This fixed my issue after installing the updated OTA

Tried dilfatx's fix to no avail. Hopefully Google fixes this up quickly.
You are correct.. it worked for me for few hours.. tested it out.. now its not sync again.. this is a whole other issue..

Android central is reporting some issues with Google and sync e-mail accounts. Apparently Google is already hard work resolving the issue.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OTA UPDATE!!!!
Hello,
Since yesterday, HD2 back becomes very hot for no reason (no new apps installed for many months) and battery is drained within 4-5 hours (from 100%).
Same when I restart the phone. However, it randomly fixes itself for no reason too.
I also can't wake up the phone just by pressing HANG UP key, I have to HOLD IT for 5 seconds for screen to highlight.
Any ideas?
Official 3.14 ROM
Are you using a googlemail account, if so delete it and reboot the phone. remove battery for 10 secs.
Wow, you are a hero. Yes, I do.
Is this a known bug? Any fixes?
Do I just re-add account then?
Excellent, worked for me to.
Had the same problem with my HD, deleted the Gmail account now, and I'll se if it helps ... the only thing that maybe is wrong (people ask why Gmail not something else) is maybe related to Gmail's new priority inbox thing, maybe it makes extra stress on the phone to process the mail ... I know a lot of people already had this feature, but in my case, my Gmail Inbox got the priority thing just before the HD2 started acting up, so that's why I'm assuming it's somehow related to all of this ... then again, maybe just a coincidence that doesn't have anything to do with it ... I think it's too early for speculations ...
Btw, my first post here

Welcome and a helpfull first post
Don't get the idea that I don't have anything better to do and just type here, but here's and update ... The phone is cooling down, the battery life holds normally, and you can turn on the phone from standby by pressing any button, like you used to before (some people reported that you could only turn it back from standby by long pressing the power button, myself included)
I also had this problem and someone on the Tmobile forum said XDA suggested to delete the Gmail accounts. This was my response on the other forum:
"Deleted all Gmail email accounts I had on my phone. I can verify that this corrected the problem and my HD2 is now working normally.
This is definitely not a good permanent solution because I use multiple gmail accounts. I also noted that when I did have my Gmail accounts on my phone, it would hang when trying to communicate with google servers. If you went to inbox, and looked at the status message at the bottom of the screen. It would hang at like "Connecting" or "Disconnecting"."
Also of note; this problem just started happening in the last few days and I've had my HD2 with multiple gmail accounts setup since release.
First-time poster...
We've done the same thing (deleted our Gmail accounts). After the battery recharges - it went completely dead after only 6 hours off the charger - we'll see if/how it works
Mike
Thanks for posting the gmail issue and fix. I had been having the same issue since Thursday night, and was almost ready to call T-Mobile to try to get a replacement, but saw the post here just by chance. So far it is working the way it was before, so it's much better. I even tried a hard reset(after a backup, of course), but had gone through and setup all of my stuff again right away, so I was still having the issue.
T-Mobile is now listing this as a known issue - last night when I called, they weren't so you can imagine the number of calls they've received already. My advice: if you are a T-Mobile customer and haven't reported this issue, please do. The more they see it is affecting, maybe the quicker they'll get a resolution for it.
Mike
I've had the exact same issue with my HD2 since Thursday evening. I just found this thread about Gmail and have deleted my Gmail account from the phone's e-mail app. Crossing my fingers to see if that fixes it.
I have a trouble ticket open with HTC regarding the issue and have made them aware of the possible Gmail interaction problem. The tech helping me said he will explore it and also that "GMail did recently perform a server side security change". Hopefully HTC and Google get their heads together and figure out what is going on.

Amen to that! Permanently leaving Gmail off my phone is not an acceptable option!

euro hd2
Also same situation with euro version HD2.
Someone on the HD2 Facebook page is reporting that if you go into Task Manager, the email client is using 80%-90% of the CPU. No wonder it's getting warm...
Great. And I was prepared to do an HR in the morning because of this. Hope there will be an permanent solution for this soon.
Just to touch base... since deleting the Gmail account and recharging the phone, it has worked flawlessly. A little too late to test the battery life (I won't be up near that late) but I'll let y'all know tomorrow.
I am a super noob when it comes to this my brother is having this problem how do you delete gmail from the HD2 sorry but I'm an android guy trying to help a windows
After removing my Gmail account from the phone it seems to be back to normal. Hopefully they find a fix soon.
Rob
Is this only an IMAP issue as I have 3 gmail accounts (POP3) on my T-Mob HD2 & they are all working fine without bugging the HD2.
Hi,
this is a strange question and a bizzare event thats occuring but i am hoping someone will be able to clear this up for me.
Basically i have had troubles with battery life on my windows 7 phone, its a samsung omnia on the orange network in the uk. This has ONLY been an issue since i upgraded to the Mango update last wednesday.
What i am finding is that my emails are syncing every 30mins or so despite being set to manual update only. I added 3 email accounts to my phone each via the windows live account addition option, i set them to each manually update only and only sync email not contacts/meetings etc... the mad thing is the main acount that is used under my people contact and the main hotmail/live account that is in use with the phone itself seems to stick at only updating when i tell it to sync (i have to click the refresh style sync button within the email screen) however the other two accounts after about 12hours start to go haywire and whilst they start out by syncing manual as soon as i have synced them manually once, after this they just update whenever they want too (every 30mins it appears)... i have tried a reset of the phone and starting from scratch but again eventually this flaw just keeps occuring! over and over, no matter how many resets i do
Its a real pain to be honest, when i first updated to mango i did link all the accounts together as there is an option to band all your accounts into the single hotmail livetile on the homescreen, i changed this option and decided against it, trouble is i cant remember if this issue happened then, im still pretty sure it did, its almost like the other two accounts have amind of their own, is there any explanation as to what this coul possible be?
I have tried to a rollback of my current firmware but it ended up bricking my phone so now it has gone in for a repair under warrenty to samsung, maybe it could have been a dodgy install of mango from day one? as my friend updated and he has the same phone yet hasnt experienced this email flaw, but then again he only has two accounts on his phone
Could it be the manual option no longer works in mango update?
many thanks for areading and hope someone can help, many thanks
You realize this is the Samsung Captivate forum, for Android phones, right?
I've moved this from the Samsung Captivate forum to the Omnia II forum, if it's inappropriate, I'm sorry, but it's as close as I could find. Good luck with your problem.
This is samsung omnia 7 and dont belong here.
