[Q] Camera on Omnia 7 - Omnia 7 General

Hi guys, I have got an Omnia 7 and I was wondering if there was a camera on the front as it looks like one. I know WP7 doesn't require one and the upcomming Samsung looks like it does have one as well but maybe Samsung included this as an extra feature for this phone. I don't have my hopes up high for it as it is not neccessary but it has been bugging me for ages and there are no documentation or info about it. It's hard to see in the pictures but there are two holes on the right of the speaker, one of them has to be the light sensor while the other really looks like a camera to me.

No front camera, one is proximity sensor, other is light sensor

Front Camera?

Hello everybody, I was reading about the upcoming Sprint version of the HD2 and it sows that the phone is going to have an 8 megapixel camera in the back and another camera in the front for video calling. Anyways, does the US T-Mobile version have a front camera? I see a whole there where there may be a camera but dont know t for a fact. Please let me know what you guys think.
No front camera.
you know i was thinking the exact same thing,it's right next to the led blinker and i was wondering what its there for. Is there anybody who took this phone apart and explored everything.

Would be nice....but nope The EVO will have a front-facing camera, but the HD2 has no such provision. The two small dots you may see just to the left of the ear speaker are the proximity and light sensors.
Also, even if the HD2 had the camera, it's not much good if the carrier hasn't enabled support on the network.

I believe it has 2 functions, as you stated ambient light sensor. but if you look closely you'll see 2 holes. I believe the other to be an IR emitter that is used to tell when the phone is up against your face and to turn the screen off during a call. It looks for the reflection of the IR off your skin.
Oh ok good, im not the only person to tihnk it is a camera. loll i thought 1 was a proximity and the other the camera. =) cool to know.

Correct, that's the "proximity sensor"

Just so you know, that is not a HD2 that sprint is getting... its the Evo 4G. Completely different phone, different os... it just looks similar.
It is a front facing camera!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EcHn5BwESk

Yup, that's on the EVO, one of the features that sets it apart from the HD2, though they're very similar. Sprint is using that to create more desire for their 4G service (which is pretty much necessary for stable 2-way video streaming at any usable resolution)

[Q] Wildfire's camera

Hello everybody!
I have a problem with my wildfire's camera. When i take a photo, the photo is all blurry as on wildfire's screen as on computer. Picture looks like you would take it under water. And no effect is turned on. Can anyone help me please and tell me why is that and what can i do.
Thanks!
Hello,
I have the same problem with my Wildfire. Autofocus is working but only in small distances. Now the phone is in garantee service. I think that the problem is hardware, bad series.
L.H.
Yeah the wildfire camera is always like this blur.. not a good camera after all..
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Camera is fine, barely use it
Sometimes the camera lens cover on HTC phones becomes cloudy. Try removing your battery cover and taking a picture with it off. If the pictures becomes clear you have the cause off the problem.
You can then either order a new back cover (HTC will say it's damage on your part and refuse too send one for free! Cheek) or do what I did and carefully pop the offending lens cover out with a match stick.
Some people have also had success using screen scratch remover on it if you don't like the idea of having your actual camera lens exposed.
the back cover does not cover the camera, it has a hole where the camera goes.
mine working fine. I don't expect more from low end phone+without carl zeiss. I use camera 360 to take picture. its better than the stock camera
What's camera 360?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
there seems to be some sort of coating on lens cover, if you look closely it appears to be an oily colour, i simply polished with a silver polishing cloth ( silvo infused) and about 20 seconds of gentle polishing removed coating so now my lens is crystal clear. hope this helps
My picture quality quite good.
Camera 360
Have you guys tried Camera 360 on Wildfire?
It's not on the market so I got an internet apk and it crashes all the time instead of opening. Is it my version that is wrong or is it the app?
[Edit]Answer to myself and the others, I was on build 0.9.74, now that I found the 0.9.76 it works like a charm \o/

Front Facing Camera on G2

I was sitting in Buffalo Wild Wings playing with my phone when something caught my eye. I'm not sure what it actually is but if you look in the top left corner of your screen you can see a lens and a led and it looks to me as if its a front facing camera but just not activated for whatever reason. Now I don't know if this is on everyones G2 but I really had to look to see it. It does seem kinda strange they would leave off such a hot feature on the top of the line phone.
Yes it's a camera, utilised by the government to keep track of people, but you can't tell anyone. You might want to delete your post before you mysteriously disappear of the face of the earth
Or maybe there's no conspiracy, and it's actually a proximity sensor.
if ur talking about the think near the earpiece im pretty sure thats a light sensor. It measures the level of light to adjust the autobrightness i believe
lol, although a front facing camera is definitely a much wanted feature.
but now that android 2.3 is released, i bet HTC are busy in their kitchens cooking up a new handset to have a dual camera. I'm gutted that they didnt introduce one in the Desire-Z otherwise i'd snapped it up.

One Week Using The Dell Venue pro

I decided to take a vacation from my GSII and decided too give the DVP a try and wow! is a gorgeous unique phone. I bought this device for cheap and my expectations weren't high at all. First thing I notice the great looks of the DVP have then the screen quality blew me away, I was expecting a screen like the HD2 or HD7 but is great nothing like Super Amoled Plus but its still better than the first HTC Windows phones. Where the DVP fell short or more like flat on its face was the camera, the camera is just a hit and miss. Too bad the DVP will just be another good phone murder by such a bad launch I hope MS keep supporting this device.
That sounds about right as:
SAMOLED+: SGSII
AMOLED: V/VP
S/LCD: HD2/7, Streak5
I can attest that even if it isnt a SAMOLED+, it's still nicer then S/LCD.
Wish it was SAMOLED though, even without the + the difference between a bonded display/glass and unbonded is pretty noticable.
Esp if you end up getting dust under the screen
Dell doesnt need MS to help them screw up launches, they already hold the record for that. (it's every single launch, or at worst all but one launch screwed up)
The camera is due to it being a WP7 device? The V has a 8MP cam and the VP has a 5MP cam (though I cant speak for the actual image quality on each), dell wouldnt randomly downgrade the camera without reason.

I agree the camera issue is all software not hardware if you look at the reviews of the Nokia N9 and the Lumia 800 or 900 the pictures come out more washout and the N9s pictures come out better with the same carl zeiss lens. Yeah this device was the most wanted of all windows devices and dell delayed the launch people were getting testing devices bugs and device issues more delays and the list goes on. I hope the designers of the DVP get another shot maybe in another company.

HTC didn't seem to have any problems with the software and produced good cameras in the Titan and Radar. The crappy camera is all Dell.
I think he misunderstood me, I believe the camera issue is mostly hardware.
I dont recall what the WP7 specs are for cameras (besides having a rear one),
WP7 is really anal about chassis requirements, they had to use a specific sensor for the camera?
The VP has a 'worse' cam then the V regardless and dell devices in general have ok at best rear cams.
My old iphone 3g had a better camera, but it was intentionally limited by both hardware and software (fixed focus, no digital zoom)
Keep in mind that the cam isnt a single unit, it's the sensor and lense (and the software backing it).
Even if all WP7 devices used the same sensor there's nothing stopping manus from using their own lenses.
Dell really skimps out on lenses, that's much more important then whatever sensor's inside regardless.

I'm not arguing that the dell camera is a low quality cam but the issue is software more than hardware. Me mentioning Nokia n9 and 800/900 was an example about camera quality, they use the same camera same optics and they still didn't manage to get the same quality. Why? because the software needs improvement nothing is wrong with the lens used on the 800 or 900 so is it Nokia been lazy or Windows holding the lens back who knows. The camera on HTC are good to average but dell did a poor job on the camera.
Grats on getting your DVP. I dont know if anyone has this but when I take pictures with my DVP, there is a pink tone to the picture(and it's not from my fingers being near the lens or something). But anyways, great phone but what really gets me is that there is only one case for the DVP which is the Otterbox communter not counting all of those leather cases.

I kinda doubt you can fix the pink spot try changing the camera settings maybe a miracle happens but that's another software issue. The other issue I have is dust under the screen I guess dell didn't seal the device correctly now I have to take it apart and clean it but I'm sure thats not gonna fix this problem in the long run.

Poor front camera quality?

just tested out the front facing camera and was really surprised with the quality, or lack there of. My skin looks almost airbrushed and the photos look soft and somewhat grainy. Honestly the front cam on my gs4 has significantly more detail(compared them side-by-side under the same conditions). Does anyone else see the front cam this way or is there something up with mine? Maybe it's intentional to make people's faces look airbrushed? If so I'm not a fan :/
You need to turn off the "Beauty Face" option.
Oh wow. Now I feel like a noob. Thanks!
User error.
There's also a rear camera selfie mode that works ok (no flash though?). Also be sure to take the plastic off the rear camera. I could barely tell it was there so i would understand if people missed it.
Off topic
anyone know how to turn off burst shot ? cant find it anywhere
grainy front facing camera and other things
I just got a brand new Galaxy Note 4 and my front facing camera is super grainy and blurry and its missing a ton of the cool settings the note 4 is famous for. I just found out that its because the phone is a really good Chinese knock off! It explains a lot of the major issues ive been having lately like the terrible lag,the crashing of the browser at every use, motion and gesture settings cant be activated and so many other things like it wont download certain apps or wont connect to certain networks. Just thought id let anyone know who has been having similar issues.
