Buying a Nexus One and some questions - Nexus One General

Well i decided to buy the Nexus one because of it's hardware and software (I love to customize). Since i have absolutely zero replies in the Q&A section i decided to try and ask here
1) I will be flashing my N1 straight away to 2.3.4(skipping the setup too) after I get it is that possible?, or do I need to go through certain updates
2)I will most likely will be getting the S-LCD version of the N1 I was wondering if ND1Razors guide on rooting would root that version of N1, Also what does he mean by the solid Nexus one logo (step 13) can somebody show me please
3) Lastly after I have rooted will I still have Clockwork recovery/mod and from there will I be able to flash Cyanogen mod 7?
Thank you

1.) Unlock your bootloader, but act really groovy while doing
2.) Flash that custom recovery you've always wanted (personally I prefer amon ra's over CWM)
3.) I've taught you everything I know, now the student becomes the master. Flash away

I would go to this Forums wiki and get very familiar with the recovery and rom you want--more involved than 3 steps
Also, where did/will you buy the N1 and what carrier is it for? Some are Att and some TMO.

lol...me trying to sell my nexus one and get a dual-core and u want to buy a new NEXUS ONE

best method for rooting

Hello everyone, three days ago I bought a N7 and i find it really awsome! despite that I miss the features I have with my rooted galaxy s (backup, ad-remove..). I searched on the forums and found different answers but wanted some opinions. Which is the best/safest way to root the N7? I do not intend to flash an alternative ROM as I always did with my phone since stock one is perfect, but maybe an alternative kernel..do you think it is worth to change kernel?which one would you suggest?
Thank you for your help!
Look for wugfresh in the android dev section... works beautifully
Definately use a ToolKit as they are so simple, cuts out all of the issues you may experience and you are literally rooted before you can blink.
I USED THIS ONE
Gotta say an amazing little toolkit and had absolutely no problems what so ever, and whats more all the drivers etc that are needed, are included in the ToolKit
Hope this helps.
Better use the Nexus 7 toolkit, I found it to be the easiest way to unlock the bootloader and root my Nexus 7. I can't comment on kernel as of now, coz I just purchased the Nexus 7 and want to keep it stock with root.
Another vote for the toolkit. I used it last week to root mine and it couldn't have been easier.
The best and safest why is FASTBOOT

Wtf! No toolkits...
This is a nexus device... the easiest phone to root manually PERIOD.
Using a toolkit only becomes useful after you know what your doing.

[Q] new to samsung. questions about S4 stuff

alright get ready for all the questions!!! lol
so i came from my HTC EVO OG. rooting over there required unlocked bootloader and was wondering if thats the case or whats different about samsung? i also saw that there is twrp and cwm recoveries for the s4 right now, which is best? im assuming there are no awesome roms out yet because the phones brand new so ill check back on that later i keep seeing talk about odin and hiemdall too, what are they?
a few other random questions too. im thinking about getting the s-view cover but i also want the wireless charging back. think i could somehow combine this with a little modding? any other cool accessories?
also love making my phone full blue/black theme. here is what i currently have my s4 looking like. https://www.dropbox.com/s/dlc3ukdjcy4tsop/2013-05-05%2019.55.47.png. so if you guys have any cool ics themes or stuff like that feel free to share. waiting for cm10 or aokp roms to use as long as everything works well.
thanks in advance
Odin is a flashing tool. Use it to flash your recovery and then use your recovery to flash superuser. Thats it now you have root.
I like twrp right now just because I can set my backup folder and do a few other things while in recovery. Once we have a fully functional cwm touch available I may switch.
i ended up rooting useing qbs motochopper method. i guess ill just wait for a fully functional cwm or one that becomes the standard most people use and some good roms to do all that.
Hey man im sort of on the same boat coming from the original EVO 4g
Go to Android development forum, and go to Shabbypenguins OUHDS recovery thread and follow the excellent instructions in there for recovery and root if you went back to stock.
Fully stable and working well, TWRP is fine too other than some touch sensitivity issues. I recommend OUDHS CWM!

CWM recovery

Ok so I got my AT&T S4 successfully rooted using the guide I found on here that uses the Motochopper tool. Root Checker verified I am indeed rooted. But that's it. I'm only rooted to the stock ROM. Nothing custom. Now how to I go about getting a CWM recovery thing on my phone, while still maintaining the stock ROM?

On the play store, download goo manager (for twrp) or rom manager (for cwm) to install a custom recovery. Don't use either app to do anything but just install the recovery. Once it's installed, boot into recovery and make a backup, even if you're planning on staying stock. Cheers
Step 1. Go to the development forum and read about how to do it.
Step 2. Know how to do it.
Step 3. Do it.
I need more basic. I mean I know CWM means ClockWorkMod, but I don't know what that means. I also know that CWM is more popular than TWRP (I don't know what TWRP stands for) because the rom manager app has tons more downloads in the play store than the goo one does. What is a recovery mode and why do you need one? I mean if I screw up I can just use Odin to flash the AT&T stock ROM back. I wish someone would post a link to a ROMS for Dummies page.

If I were you I'd be happy that your rooted and now find out what that means to you and what you want to do with a rooted phone. You don't need a custom recovery if all you're interested in is being rooted. And if you mess up, Odin back to stock may not be an option. You may permanently hard brick your phone. So really decide what you want to do with the phone before you proceed any further.

you really should have read and understood this first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301762
These guys are correct and trying to help you avoid a brick. If you are not aware of the basics start reading. Even if you are experienced at flashing on another device.
I had extensive experience on HTC phones and feel like a noob here, but getting better. But I have read over a thousand posts, at least, and dozens of how to videos since early may. And only feel comfortable now to flash a custom rom. Not ready yet as phone stock is pretty good for me atm. And would prefer an unlocked bootloader first. I only rooted and flashed a recovery about a week ago. May be a little slower than some, but never got into a problem I couldn't get out of on my HTC phones using the same learning process.
If you come back with specific questions where they know you have researched things they will gladly help. Googling some of the terminology is a good idea too. Had to do that when I first started flashing roms. A different language for sure.
Good luck and enjoy the phone and the rooted world.
In my experience with the S4 CWM does not work as well as TWRP. I had many issues installing a few custom ROMS with CWM, but as soon as i loaded TWRP those ROMS which wouldn't install would install properly. TWRP also was able to read my ext SD when it was formatted in exFat.

[Q] need help/opinions ?

Hi guys I've been a root user on my Motorola Xoom for about a year now but I've jus landed myself a nexus 4 UK 16gb and after reading a lot on these nexus 4 forums i am still undecided as to what's the best/quickest/easyest way to root my new phone and what the best ROMs are so before I start the whole process in around an hour or so I wanna get your guys opinions please I'm quite tech savvy but still would like it nice and simple please
Will be starting the process at around 7pm GMT
So go crazy n let me have it lol
It really isn't that hard. There are three main steps: Unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, flash supersu binaries via custom recovery.
Use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654
Oh, and dont use a toolkit.

Thanks I did it the old fashioned way anyway that's how I did my Xoom so I that's the way I know lol I was wondering what the best KitKat ROM is tbh my Xoom is getting a little behind due to partition size issues so I'm not up to date on ROMs ATM
I'd wait on kitkat until proper roms can be made. We will be getting the real deal very soon so I'd try kernels as stock 4.3 is great but I've noticed a great improvement changing the kernel and it let's you adjust as you know. Oh welcome BTW

[Q] Defy is on the way

Hi All,
I ordered a Defy on ebay because I need a temporary phone. I sold my iPhone 4S because I didn't like it and I am coming back to Android. I am waiting for the next crop of phones to come out before I decide what I want and I figured the Defy would make a good temporary phone and something I can mess with in the future because it seems like it has a great developer community.
I have quite a bit of experience with Android, rooting and customer roms etc. I was with Android from the beginning and should have never left.
Anyway, I am getting confused because I am late to the party and I can't tell which beginners/noob guide I should be using. The phone is going to be the t-mobile variant and it most likely not rooted and running the stock moto rom. I see a special guide for the t-mobile phone but it looks like it might be superseded by the guides for the unlocked phones. I also see a number of different rooting methods. Where should I start?
Thanks,
Rich
Root using framaroot. Install 2ndinit apk. Flash roms
There are additional steps for kitkat, and you need to follow a separate guide for it(in general section)
