As the title suggests, I want to password protect my email accounts but leave the rest of the tablet unlocked. A use case for this is, when a friend/relative/colleague wants to play with your tablet and you have confidential stuff in your emails so you just want to lock them out from the email app, which is gmail in this case.
Is there a way to do this?

I once had a app on my phone that would do just that.when you tried to launch protected apps it would prompt for password. Do not remember the name or where it came from. Android market I assume.if I find it I will post link here

Already done - link above in my last post points to Google search results for literally dozens of apps that can do what the OP wants
When I first saw your "google it you idiot" post entropy.of.avarice, I instantly became ready to start a war, but apparently you were right
After checking one billion different locking apps, I decided to go with App Protector due to its large user base and relatively less permission requests. I am using the lite version (link below) which is functional for 7 days, but I think I will purchase it after the 7 day period.

Sometimes that's the point of asking here, imho. Don't worry, I consider myself somewhat seasoned at forum posting, etc. and I would still have ask here as well, because it's nice to not have to go through reading about 50 different apps. I'm not lazy. I just have what I consider to be a better outlet than Google ie: XDA members. I'd rather just get recommendations based on what people use here and then go from there.
I'm glad you found something though. I had noticed your request and initially didn't respond since I don't use any of these apps and so had nothing to recommend.

Of course! Glad to help, and it was not a "Google it you idiot", simple a "let me Google that for you" Great way to provide a link to what someone needs while giving a gentle friendly reminder that Google Search can be your friend.
Glad you did not take offense, was not trying to be rude or snarky at all - I don't roll that way. I so would never call anyone an idiot, either online or offline.
Just glad I could help you to find an app that works for you. Best of luck!

I gladly paid for mine.
Payment server
I was going to pay for it too. But I don't trust their payment server. I should be allowed to use Paypal and not need to enter my personal information again. So sorry Bud but I don't trust a method where I log into Paypal, and then get sent to a window where I need to enter my address, my phone number etc.. doesn't feel trustworthy. I have never had to enter my information after I used Paypal for something and I am not about to start.
I guess I'll go back to sensor lock and just have to fix the code to allow the phone to answer. I would have supported his effort but not if I need to re-enter my personal stuff that Paypal has confirmed. :
OH SNAP!! I just realized it removed my outlook email account on my device and keeps crashing SQB. I don't think anyone should install it. Seriously this program is malicious code somewhere

...definitely no malicious code in PocketShield. This is one of the best locking apps available. Customer support is second-to-none. Updates come thick and fast with new options and settings. Superb software - just buy it!
I second that pocketshield is an excellent app and have experienced no malware-like effects
has anyone come across an issue with it not locking when waking up?
Mine stopped working and now doesn't lock unless I run the Lock app.
Make sure you have latest v2.1.1
If power off with AeButton or other way not the standard power off, it might not lock.

mine locks very well, but i suggest asking for help @ pocketshield.net there u can speak directly with the developer ..
Pocketshield ROCKS! and the developer has been super-responsive to enhancement/bug reports.

Uninstalling pocketshield
I installed Pocketshield on my phone, then uninstalled it because it was making my phone crash and ending up with a blank screen that was impossible to take out, and now, the phone skin is changed to the theme that comes with Pocketshield. I removed the program, but I can't go back to the original phone skin that comes with the HTC Diamond. How can I go back to original settings without doing a hard reset?

Tnx u are a lifesaver. I had the same problem, dld new version ystrday.
Tnx again
Have you gone through the settings?
I have an HD2 as well and no problems! and so my fellows who recommended it to me.
Pocket Shield
I have tried both Pocket Shield Protector and Pocket Shield Proximity used in conjunction with VolumeX.
I have tried nearly every possible combination of settings to achieve what I need and I always seem to hit one snag or another.
I originally purchased Pocket Shield Protector and VolumeX. When my blue tooth answer button stopped working I switched to Pocket Shield Proximity and Jim was nice enough to switch my registration from the more expensive Protector application to the less expensive Proximity application. I have since asked Jim to move my registration back to the Protector application but he hasn't as of yet.
In general this is a good application, however, it lacks polish on the basic functionality.
I put my first app on the market. For some reason, Google Market doesn't let you download your own app. wth?
I'm asking that someone download it (or try to) to make sure it works. There were a few steps to do to get the app ready for the market and I want to make sure I didn't mess anything up (and that people can dl it!)
It's called "Prefix Code Finder" and has a blue telephone icon and the author is "smartapps".
It's listed at $1.00...all I ask is you to dl it for 5 minutes, test it and then you can return it.
And another weird thing happened after I published it; I can no longer get it on my phone. I load it, it says "Success" and I can see it in Manage Applications, but the icon to run is not to be found!! I turned debugging back on, tried to load it by running it from Eclipse and installing with adb. I tired both apk's; the publishable version and the one that I changed the debug to TRUE. WEIRD.
Please don't consider this spam and I really didn't want to post this, but I have no way to check to see if this is working.
Thanks
You are allowed to download your own app, trust me on that one, ive done it many times
Hmmm...I'll try again, but..getting a "Server error has occurred" still
Well, I can't wait. Only thing I can think of was that I imported this project vs. "making it from scratch". I'm just going to make a new app and copy all the files in...something got out of synch somehow...
Well, I redid the ENTIRE project from scratch, exported my apk and installed to market.
I still get a SERVER ERROR...can anyone please try to download this.....just see if you can pull it down, do a search or two and return it.
It's now called "Prefix Finder" has a red phone icon and the author is still "smartapps"
I just really need to narrow down if I'm doing something wrong with the app preparation or if it's Google Market.
Thank you so much
Only thing I can think of is that I don't have my bank account info in there yet; maybe that's causing the error...i just need another "body" to test it LOL

It is moist likely your app there has been a lot of people getting this server error
Edit: I just downloaded app works perfect
Sent from my unrEVOked using xda app
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'll make sure you get a free copy if you want it LOL
What sucks to me is making those images of the app; I'm a programmer, not a graphics artist. And since my data is on a hosted server, I can't get a picture of the output from the emulator. I would have to "hard code" some data in and then do the screen capture.
Oh well, off to get my next app up...similar to this one, but it's a Zip Code Finder.
Then I've got to figure out what to code next...
It be pretty cool if you could put looking for the area codes and zoos by city and state
Sent from my unrEVOked using xda app
So, a reverse lookup? I have considered that.
I'll have to look at the data first. Major cities could have a lot of area codes and prefixes. Not worried about the speed pulling from the hosted database, it's pretty fast; I'm just worried about a crapload of data to scroll through
But hey, thanks, I will probably do it as version 1.1 if I'm not getting 100 areacodes and prefixes for one city.
Yeah, not going to work. I just queried Columbus, OH and got 427 rows back! That would be a lot of scrolling if I did that many lines. I could send it back as "201, 202, 203, 215, 216, 217....", but that just might look ugly LOL
Yeah way top Mick Lol
Sent from my unrEVOked using xda app
Got the other app published...I still don't know why I can't install either of them...freakn' server error.
Don't know if you've tried this. Guessing you probably have, but I had got that error a few times before and I fixed by doing a reboot of the phone. Just an idea.
Didn't think about that...thanks!
I just ended-up running adb install
Well, I'm up and running and making "some" sales.
Moved on to licensing my apps (new and old). Once I get that ironed-out, I can start back with development, because we ALL know that's where the real fun is. LOL
Sucks being a programmer...no problems writing code, just not creative enough to come up with ideas that aren't out there yet...still in search of that "must have" app that sells 50,000 copies (yeah, I know...good luck ROFL)
Hey everyone. Have an unrooted Evo. Just installed the most recent OTA. A few days before that my wifi started turning on by itself. After doing some snooping around in my phone I found an app called securephone running. It looks like spyware, I'm not sure how it got there, or what app I downloaded that added it, but keep an eye out, and if anyone has any info I'd appreciate it.
Looks like it logs and uploads your call history. Got a nosey girlfriend?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/securephone/security.Phone
I was thinking that but it has no user interface, instructions or settings. After uninstalling I even went and reinstalled it myself from the market to see, but nothing.
Yeah I don't know then, maybe there is some hidden way to get into its menus, it certainly wouldn't be the first app like that. It does have the most extensive permissions list that I have ever seen so methinks it can't be good. Just get it back off your phone and keep a close watch on whoever has access to your EVO.
I found one listing that says "This application seems to be removed from the Android Market". ?

Below are some possible download issues/solutions. These are from their troubleshooting site.
If a download you requested from the Android Market website never started on your device, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
Confirm that there is connectivity on your device (contact your mobile service provider if you aren't connected)
If downloading a paid application, confirm that your credit card information is up to date by logging in your Google Checkout account
Make sure that your phone is logged into Google Talk by following these steps:
Go to your phone’s app launcher, and press the Talk app
If you’re already logged into Talk, press Menu, and then touch Sign out
Launch Talk again to sign in
Make sure that your phone has enough available space to install the app. If necessary, try uninstalling some existing applications or moving them to your SD card.
Try requesting the download again using Android Market from your device.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is exciting about web access to the market? Is it supposed to be better than our regular market app?
The Hotness! Logged in. See all of my apps. Can download apps from the website will sync immediately into your phone!
Way to step up android!!
You can browse on your computer, then install the apps OTA, so to speak. Easier to link to apps you like, install them without taking the phone out of your pocket, for example, that kind of stuff. It's just more convenient in some situations.
Well, I just thought of something.... does it work with custom ROM's? I just downloaded something on the net, and it hasn't really downloaded on Bionix V. Maybe I should go on over to the Bionix V thread and ask.
Unfortunately, it is so pointless right now because it can't function correctly over wifi only* connection. It just lists it in my market place under "My Downloads" and not actually installing the application.
I am using wifi only, because 3g is cut off in my office building.

Well I'm pretty sure all developers keep the fingerprint as the old eclair build for proper regular market access. Obviously I have no idea if this website would react differently. Who's to say it's not just as problematic on stock builds though? It is a brand new site after all.
Edit: Well I tried it out for the fun of it. It shows the download trying to take place on my phone, but the progress bar does nothing. Then again, I get this fairly often with the regular market too.
Hi all,
I did a cursory check to see if there was a thread on this and couldn't find it so I'm going to ask outright.
When I get sent an amazon web link or want to pay something with PayPal, to give a couple of examples, I'd like the default app to open and not a new browser page. I'm not to android so I've had plenty of phones in the past that have operated in this way (oneplus 3t being the most recent example). Unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work with my S8 and it's a bit of an annoyance.
Does anyone know how to get this to work?
I have tried changing some of the settings in the attached screen but no success yet.
Any ideas?

That would be great. I can't find an answer and I don't get an option to choose the app...mostly. As a test, try and get this link to open in Amazon. It's 'shared' directly from the app do the expectation is that it would open in the app

Yeah, I get the 'view in app' option also but that's an Amazon URL thing I believe. It doesn't give that option, for example, with a PayPal payment. It simply goes to the website which is what I'm hoping to change.
I'm surprised it's only you and I engaging in this. I find this very annoying and thought others might also
I've read about it a bit and involves something called app to app linking.
It's difficult for me because I've never had a device that launched, there are some apps that launch but from what I can remember when it comes to amazon and PayPal I've never had it auto launch. But you've given an answer, I'm just wondering if it has something to do with the framework, one plus is pretty much clean android whereas the s8 is touchwiz

When there is a Amazon or say PayPal link web url, clicking on it opens a new browser Window instead of its respective app
Try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tasomaniac.openwith
Good luck.
So this is EXACTLY what I have been fighting with on my S8.
The play store link from thehaXor opens the play store aop on my S7, but on my S8 takes me to the browser version of the play store.
I'll try the suggested app now and report back.
Install another browser and see if that one opens the same. Try the Firefox
