I know what you mean...
Here's what I do:
1. Install Go Launcher EX. It puts a nice 'NEW' badge on every recently installed app.
2. I use Folder Organizer (Free on the Market) which allows you to organize your apps in folders, and once setup, every time you download and install a new app or game, it will prompt you where to put it's icon (i.e. Games under game's folder, Music player under Media folder, etc).
I hope this helps you.
Cheers!

True, but sometimes I tend to forget which apps and games I just downloaded, specially when I'm just trying out stuff.

You still can't move any of the programs that you have in your application menu screen into a new folder in that screen.
I think some of you need to learn to read properly before you give some answers that isn't about what the OP is asking for.
The program menu screen is not the home screen.
Don't think you can without using an application
Sent from my X10a
no but you can create short cuts on the homescreen and put themin folder therefore reducing the time u need to enter the menu
Firstly thanks for all your replies.
I know you can create folders on the homescreen, thats not what i'm looking for.
I want to organise the apps in my programs menu. Seems a bit silly its not more straight forward as i would have thought the ability to organise apps as being quite essential.
Any one know what apps can help?
@pilot
That isn't what he's after. There's no need to post it multiple times.

Also, you could try zMenu.
It's not great but at least it allows you to categorize all of your apps.

i know. i only posted it once and yes its because i didnt read. but io did say that if he was to make folders on the home scren it would decrease time needed to locate apps

No what you do is longclick your home screen you want to shortcut on, click shortcuts>Better Home, then just click "Activity"....should be pretty self-explanatory from there
I was able to create a shortcut to the folder where the movie is located but is there a way to create a shortcut that will launch the movie
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
same question here, i dl'ed desktop visualizer but i dont see how to get to the movie file? it lets me go to the same things as anycut will. i stored the movie on my internal memory.
Figured it out, download Bettercut from the market ($2.99 you can uninstall and refund after your done it will still leave the shortcut) long press on the screen you want the shortcut on and choose shortcuts, then bettercut, scroll to the bottom and select make your own, and enter the following
Action: android.intent.action.VIEW
Data: content://media/external/video/media/11
Type: leave blank
Where 11 is it varies, that is the number for the file. It is in order of when the video was created so try with 1 and work your way untill you find your video could take some time depending on the number of videos you have and deleting videos will take up a number so sometimes you'll get an error saying it cannot be opened

Astro or Linda File Manager will allow you to navigate to a file and long press. Then select shortcut.
I guess I went the long way

Sorting your applications on SGS2

Hey everybody
just got to play with my new sgs2 all day, and noticed whenever i sort my application in folders, and reboot the phone.. my application will go randomly so its not sorted anymore.. either its a bug or ?
but the folders that i put out on the homescreen is still as it was before, but going in the application menu, everything is just random after a reboot. really change..
so how do u guys sort your stuff, i do it by games, appz, tools & widgets, navigation and Samsung(bloatware
application menu just look like a mess
I haven't experienced such problem. My apps stay exactly as I organise them.
Menus sorted in order stay as they are after a reboot .
But installing new apps may move some around .
jje
Try "touchwiz appsorter" from market.

One of the weaker points of touchwiz, the seemingly random placement of apps in the appdraer, along with the horizontal scrolling of the app drawer (who thought of that, seriously?), there is an app in the market called touchwiz app sorter which sorts the apps but for a real nice launcher try go launcher, it sorts apps, in the tray, by running apps, alphabetically etc etc
I quite like dxtoplite it also organizes alphabetically or by genre or running etc and u get 5 home screens in a diamond formation really nice interface too
mine does sometimes the same that OP's gs2 does. it flips all the apps in the folder vice versa, eg superuser was first in the folder and now its in last place there.
happens randomly after reboot and im running rooted KF1

glade to hear im not the only one experiencing this!
i give op on sorting in the app drawer, so im just gonna use home screen from now on..
something weird i also notice is, if u have app drawer to show as list, and drag one of the items out to homescreen, it sometimes drag a totally different app lol

Folders. Moving apps within

Hey guys
Do any of you know how to change folder layouts??? So like how to move apps within a folder or out of a folder?? Really lost.
Looked everywhere but just cant seem to find an answer.
Help..and thanks in advance

You can't. Also, if you put apps into folders, they will mysteriously move outside again after while, so don't even bother. Maybe they fix this some day.

Samsung was a bit shortsighted on that one and didn't build something like that in their launcher. My workaround for this is the following procedure: go into edit mode, grab the folder you want to edit to a new empty page and than delete the folder. The apps in it will populate the new page and you can re-add them to a new folder in your desired order, than re-add the new folder. If you want a more convient way for this try GO Launcher EX from market. It handles folders much more user friendly. As a note: You'll not be able to use any of samsungs widgets with any of the alternative launchers though.

I never have had something like that happening. Did you uninstall/install an app? In that case it looses its place in the folders.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Yea it sucks that we have to use such a long proceduren.. I quite like to organise apps in folders..

Anyone have any idea how to keep Album and Ebook Covers from showing up in the gallery. Want it to be just my photos etc from cam and downloads but they all show up there in all different folders?
Find where those pictures are stored. Go in that folder and make a new folder call .nomedia

Just touch and hold the "offending" file and an option menu will pop up where you can select "Exclude" - done.

I use a great little free app called quickpic which allows you to chose which folders are listed and it loads up large galleries nice and quick.

personally i find the default Gallery app pretty rubbish, it only refreshes content on a reboot for example.
i try and avoid using it as much as possible.

Yes, thats a nice little one.. I just loaded it and it has the exclude in it..
also allows you to backup to the root directry that the offending files are hanging out under..
i.e Books\nonfiction\files.. thus no need to do it individually..
it also works in well with the Picture framer I am using as a widget on one of my home screens..
where I have setup client files for previews.. now I think I just about got the perfect setup for it as a portable
casestudy showcase..so to recap on that..
ESfile explorer - to setup directory links as folders on a home screen
Picture framer to allow 4 large pictures on any one home screen - thus a quick tap takes you in to that themed directry
Quickpic - to run as the main viewer and slideshow engine..

Very sorry but forgot to tell you that I was using Quickpic rather than Gallery.
Quickpic is excellent.
