vega swype ? - Vega General

Is anyone running swype on there vega, im running vegacomb 1.7 and was hoping to use it ? Been using it on my desire for a while and love it.

I use swype on my Dell Streak and wouldn't do without it. I'm not sure it would fare too well on a tablet tbh, although I'm yet to find a keyboard for the Vega that I'm 100% happy with in both landscape and portrait. Any tips on ones to try gratefully received.
Malty

I find Hackers Keyboard works well for me in both portrait & landscape - and its free on Market.

I can confirm swype does work with vegacomb 1.7 beta, keyboard isn't full size but still works pretty well

Opera from new ROM is useless (for me)

Hi All,
Opera build 2532 that comes with the new ROM has a bug with Outlook Web Access pages....unfortunately that means I can't use it. There seem to be a lot of other (non X1 specific) builds around. Does anyone know if any of them will work well on the X1 and support the touch pad?
TIA
For me, in v.2532, AEKmap (for greek layout writing with hard keyboard) is not working.
I've already tried 2520, 2808, 15233, beta2, 86.5, none of them is working with optical button.
I was thinking about OMNIA version (which has optical as well)... but which is it?

Thanks for the link. I already found build 15233 in a thread SOMEWHERE in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=260
Might have been the Omnia QVGA thread where someone posted a VGA cab. Yes, that build works exceptionally well. Has the new invisible zoom bar. The touch pad doesn't work ....... but what the hell, who needs it when you can move th page with your finger.
There is a later build 15529 but zooming really does NOT work very well on my Xperia and it seems otherwise the same.
Cheers
I would like to have touch pad working...
I think that it is very usefull when you are browsing with auto zoom in "fullscreen".

ezinput 2.0
For windows mobile?
I used SPB keyboard before I moved to Android. The buttons were pretty big, and the landscape mode was nice.
I use FingerKeyboard, I really like how it covers the soft keys to save space.
Touchpal is the best if you want the two-letter T9. There is also EZInput 2.0 that pcarvallo put out for qvga a while ago. It's very nice.
I use the Diamond keyboard for the WinMo, and for android I use the HTC_ime
I like the Resco Pro. Free download (trial)
I love the pcm keyboard (pocket contact manager keyboard). It was highly recommended when I got my Touch. I almost sent it in the first day and week for hating the keyboards, then found lots of posts recommending pcm, downloaded and kept the phone. It's free. i just turn off the text prediction and auto replace.
For Windows Mobile, FingerKeyboard is the best and it's free. You can read my review of it here: http://thismobilelife.com/?p=129.
For Android I like the HTC keyboard.

FingerKeyboard is indeed most excellent, but I find the keys in Resco's Pro version easier to use.
Download the free trial that I provided in this link, check it out, and let me know what you think.

Keyboard is not good. Missing letters some time.

I got my X10 2 days ago. Previously i was using iPhone. Everybody know iPhone user interface is simply awesome. I like X10 as well. the issue currently i am facing is that when i type my messages some times i missed the letter and i have to press the letter again. specially letter 'a'. I am using android keyboard. Is this issue is because of keyboard or it's software issue. i know touch is perfect because i can see zoom in image of the letter. I also tried to disable sound, vibrate, dictionary etc. but no luck so far.
though in landscape it works fine.
Can anybody guide me how can i solve this issue?
Thanks,
I had the same problem with both the Android and standard keyboards.
The only way I fixed it was to install the HTC Keyboard. Works fantastic and it has a calibration tool so you can make it even more accurate than it already is.
Search for HTC X10 keyboard on google, I think there is a tutorial on esato or se-nse.
I'm afraid that this has become old news when it comes to the x10.
At the moment I can only suggest a workaround or two.
I have installed the HTC keyboard which I find very accurate. It can also be customized to allow the volume controls to control the cursor whilst typing.
Personally I find this to be the best solution.
Better keyboard is a paid app that can be downloaded from the market and offers another good solution.
I have heard in posts that swipe keyboard is another good alternative.
Finally I have heard that upgrading to the latest firmware available may help things. I debranded and upgraded to 1.6 but I still used the HTC as its familiar.
Another option is the Smart Keyboard Pro
yo try the app called shape writer. Its simply amazing, u will love it
HTC keyboard.. easy & free
Smart Keyborad PRO & Swype are also good options
actually the true problem to this is the sluggishness of the touchscreen which you'll experience in most other applications as well. the only solution is to type slower since no matter which keyboard you try you will always experience some random unset delay after each key before it actually registers on the screen. that by itself will hinder your ability to type fast and will introduce additional typos.
If you use SlideIT keyboard then you won't have any problems with sluggishness. ( which I've not experienced anyway). Its not as attractive add swype, but I find it much more accurate.

Sent from my X10i,
using SlideIT keyboard.
You can have landscape size buttons in portrait with 'Big Buttons' keyboard from the market, it takes a chunk of screen but your typing will be perfect
Thanks a lot, i just trid "big buttons", love it, the best one for people like me who are not very handy with their fingers

make sure you correctly enable the htc_ime mod keyboard from the list of keyboards in the input method options.
to bring up the input method option, when your vr keyboard is visible, long press any area where you input text and select htc ime mod.
If the htc keyboard is not available from that list, go to settings, locale and text and tick htc keyboard.

It does not matter if you type slow. it's some other issue i can't figure out the reason maybe SE know it well. you can saw a issue which can't be replicated
I guess the problems of typing are related also to the protective screen

i don't think so. because other keyboards are working fine. the problem is with the firmware
I'm using shapewriter keyboard (free on the android market) ... perfect alternative to the swype keyboard & similar as well for those who arent able to get their hands on swype due to its limited beta release
Try ThickButton - it's pretty awesome - predicts what you want to type, and expands the size of appropriate keys, making the others smaller... You can also select how much they'll expand by (esp if you have really fat fingers, or type with your toes.)

HID Stowaway ultra slim keyboard on Streak.

Found my old Palm IGO Stowaway keyboard last night and decided to try to get it working with my streak.
At first it didn't want to know because the keyboard is an HID device which is not directly supported on Android but after a bit of searching through the forums I found someone mentioning Bluekeyboard.
Bluekeyboard is a HID driver and can be downloaded from the Market for free. So I did that, had to go to the developers site to get instructions.
The only thing you need to know really is put both devices into discovery mode and get your Streak to search for new devices, when it picks up your HID keyboard hit "Pair" enter 1234 in the Streak and 1234 Enter on your keyboard. For me that was it! A working keyboard. And I'm typing this on it
This driver should work for other BT keyboards as well.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Thanks for the info.
Just last night I tried to use Blueinput from Teksoft on my Stowaway Keyboard. It worked, but without kinks. Some keys were not as responsive as normal keyboard.
I'll give Bluekeyboard a shot tonight.
Did you get the 'paid' / 'pro' version?
Cheers.
I got the free version, from what I read the paid version still carries ads.
Thanks for the reply.
As it turns out, the keyboard that I have (ThinkOutside Stowaway) is natively supported by the Streak!! I forgot that there was an article at streaksmart.com way back showing that the Streak supports it. It was just my stupidity not typing the same code on the keyboard after entering in the phone when pairing the two...
Have you tried that with yours? Might just work.
And you're right, typing on a keyboard on this beast is awesome!!
Cheers.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I tried it and you're right, it works fine without the hid driver! I don't know why I believe the stuff I read on the internet...
Chalk another one up for the Streak!
Have you all tried
SlideIT keyboard from the market.... I think its one of the best ones out there.... just a little bit on the pricey side...... but can swipe on it and the thing is really big love it on my stock streak.....
I'm using KeyPro software with an old HP bluetooth folding keyboard, and it works great!

Swype says it doesn't support the a500's screen size.
For a substitute try the FlexT9 keyboard. Same functionality as Swype, plus graffiti mode. I'm starting to like it more than Swype.
I haven't used Swype, but I tried SlideIT Liteon my Acer and it worked fine.
