(News) Desire Gingerbread upgrade released - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Htc has released the Desire GB upgrade for Desire today
See link:
Can we use this Devs for the graphics bugs
http://developer.htc.com/index.html

I hope it's true. Got used to the graphic glitches but a working camcorder is what's really needed.

This would be the upgrade, we need HTC to release the 2.6.35 kernel source code to work with and it's not sure if it will fix the graphic glitches.
Time will tell

And now waiting for the kernel source code

im on it

I agree. It won't be too long now

I was just wondering, is this al about the drivers for the adreno 200 Gpu in our hd2's? Because why do desire GB sense roms do not have these glitches? And what drivers are you guys (srbryan, dungphp) use right now in your 2.1 and 3.0 sense builds? Would the new driver also increase performance of our HD2? Which can sometimes be mocking slow with this new builds, and also score low in benchmarks like quadrant!
Really hope this fixes a lot of problems as the internals of the HD2 exactly match the desires..
We cab only wait, great that you guys are working so hard on it, rly respect you guys a lot for the time u put in! If there is anything I can do, let me know!

So i'm confused is the kernel in this latest update or is this just a clear sign that the kernel won't be far?

The kernel is in this update, but the source code for the kernel, which is what we need to fix the graphics bugs, is not. That will come later.

I wonder if it will actually come later though, we were waiting ages for the previous source, but it never surfaced. Hmm....

HTC Sensation 4G – CRC – 2.6.35 kernel source code
HTC Incredible S - GB MR - 2.6.35 release
HTC Desire HD - GB MR -2.6.35 kernel source code
HTC Desire S – 2.6.35 kernel source code
HTC Incredible S - 2.6.35 kernel source code
All are available... look at the attached printscreen.

And even if the source code isn't there ... aren't the libraries for graphics compatible? I thought this is why the Desire is the model we're waiting for !? Sio it should b e good enough to exctract the binaries from the image!?

Good question. I know my builds used the test files for the Desire. The reason why the desire doesn't have the glitches is because of the kernel snq made which is sadly closed source. When we get a kernel made from the desire source code, the glitches will be easily fixed.

Only 11 replies so far? I thought this thread would get a lot more attention
Im also very happy about this release (in case its what the devs really need), but i think many people are right-minded enough not to spam the whole hd2 section with their emotions but as you complained about this, i do now.
Im really excited how smooth sense gb and sense 3 will become

I think that everyone is very excited - it's something we've waited for a long time. But who needs threads made of thousands of posts like "OMG Finally!!" and such? Those post serve nothing, there is no point in writing them. It only shows, that we have very well behaving community here. Let's just wait and for the magicians (or "devs" as we call them ) to take it and make bugs gone .
There is another thread in the dev-section.
I would go insane with joy but I am a linux failure so other than making me anxious for one of the geniuses here to go to town on our kernel I am still in the same position I have been, on the edge of my seat waiting :/

Yeah, if the OP had posted in the Dev section, he would have received loads of thanks as well as more attention, but to be fair it is pretty risky posting in the dev section. You never know whether you'll get flamed or thanked.
Also, that thread is newer than this one, therefore it isn't as if this is a duplicate thread, but more so that that is a duplicate of this (if that's what you're trying to suggest).

If u got CM7 already there should be a CM9 also for u - but beware it may not run propper wihtout good hardware - even the wildfire is quite low for it (and i also read about needed hardware acceleration - others tell it hasn't much higher requirements then gingerbread - so we have to w8)
I don't know what u mean with soon - but till a fully working version will be out 2 month will pass properly. (with luck a bit more early...)
CM8 was reserved for Honeycomb - but since SourceCode never got released it will never be there so u wont miss someting.
For releases for galaxy mini keep track of the related forum:

Steve Kondik (Cyanogen) tweeted yesterday that CM9 will be out in approx 2 months (I assume he is talking about Nightly #0),. I guess I posted that link somewhere.

I'm not that optimistic it will run decently. Jean-Baptiste wrote this:
ICS doesn't work with software GL, it relies on extensions that aren't

those extensions were implemented they'd be too slow to result in

In other news, I've got my new phone now, and is busy getting familiar with how it works under the hood. It's quite different from the Wildfire I tell you. It's crazy ass fast and smooth though , but it loves to eat battery.

First what for phone do you have now
Second are you going develop cm9 for wildfire?
I've got the Galaxy W.
Regarding CM9 for Wildfire, I'll have to see if there will be some software gl hacks added to it. I imagine doing that and make it work decently will be a huge task, so they might not find it worthwhile. Otherwise there probably won't be any point in developing for the Wildfire, as the user experience would just be to bad from the slow UI.
Wildfire history is done... thank you for all arco... I think I'm going to buy a nexus s... the price dropped a lot and the community around that phone is amazly strong... what do you think?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
Wildfire does anything it can at the moment. I am not asking more to be honest.
If I want more, I buy a newer phone. So, if cm9 works with wildfire it is good. if it doesn't, I don't give a flying feck.
getting gingerbread is good enough for me. I don't thinkICS would run smooth, bit it would be nice to see it.

MIUI, now open sourced

Looks like MIUI is going open source but I can't remember why it wouldn't work for the Hero. Hardware limitation or ???
http://miuiandroid.com/2012/02/xiaomi-opens-up-android-rom-source-code/
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there isn't enough hardware performance
Sent from my Hero using xda premium
Probably hardware limitations. But you never know, Ligux and LeWa surprised me.
MIUI is working only from HTC Desire and up. Htc Hero is still too old for that fancy stuff. But you can make your Hero look as good as a MIUI OS if you know how . Cheers!
The reason it didn't work was because the miui devs thought the hero was too weak and without the source it was impossible, but now it should be possible if there is a dev who has the will and skills
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Any1 who use Linux feel like trying this?
Is it me, or is there Hdpi requirement ?
Ooh, right, I saw somewhere that everything was resized.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Yup, and sources + all pngs resized = niiiice
Now you have to build from the ground up to get it to work on an MDPI screen and an armv6 processor.

ICS + Sense, Devs seen this?

I could be called a bit strange for wanting ICS with Sense but I like Sense.
I've just seen this in the Runnymede dev section. Is there a Dev that fancies porting it to our Desire Z? See how it runs?
Thanks!

Yeah a Runnymede port doesn't really help use because what we really need for a proper Vision version of ICS is drivers for the graphics and camera. So we need ICS for something like Desire HD, Desire S, One V or maybe even the non-HTC phones (e.g. Sony) that use the same chipset.

Its for the Sensation XL, which has similarity to the Desire HD. I assume its based on a leak..
