I'm trying the new kg6 modem in Cyanogenmod and miui rom, since I've 2 galaxy s for testing. I notice a very speedy call connecting, seems to be very better different from the good kg3.
So you notice it too?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i have done now speedtest. With kg3 download speed 1600kb now 2100kb. Upload 1400 and now 1600.
Also little 3g h h+ fixed, now swapping only one time when you use the mobile data.
And also seems to be that reception signal bar have got a different calibration (or more device sensibility to mobile signal)

Anyone got a link to the modem zip file?
i tried this modem and it drained my battery like mad compared to kg3/kf2 that i have used before this one.
data speeds were ok but signal was really really low hence the draining of my battery .
KG6 improved broadband connectivity a lot for me, always getting "H" now. It's true that its draining more battery, but I also installed Lite'ning v5 ROM (which is KG6 based), so I can't tell exactly if the extra battery drain is only due to the modem component of the KG6 release or to some other custom-kernel related issues.
I'm not sure if it's placebo effect or not. But it does seem improve the 3G, H+ speed quite a bit. I'm with AT&T in NYC but just did a test, the download speed broke 5mbps for the first time ever.
My 3G connection has sped up significantly and I am also finding that I have reception in places that I usually would not.
YAYY
Yes, my signal seems to be much better than KG2 and this was the first time i got a 7.5mbps download speed.
I use KG6 and have no excess battery drain .
|I have an increase of about 10% in WiFi strength over KG3 .
jje
Best for me so far,had no probs with it draining the batt.
I downloaded and installed this modem on my SGS1, and it worked. More than worked, it was amazing. Problem is now that I'm reading about it, potentially was a mistake and harmful to the phone. Any thoughts?
You will probably be ok with a modem on SGS1 ..
KH3 faster for me in all tests .
jje
How does it compare to KH3?
here is the zip file

And GPS took like 5mins to lock on.was only taking like 10 secs on the JL5 modem. Was also Timing out all the time! so I switched Back!!! Stay Far away!!! I wish I knew the reason behind it (other than possibly placebo effect), but I've seen this same type of reporting for basically all the leaked modems. Some say it's crap, others say it's the best yet. Just try out the newest release and make your own decission. ALso, my advice is to REALLY try it out for awhile, not run one speedtest where you're sitting then flash back because it's 5% slower.
F.Y.I. I'm not taking a shot at the OP, I realize his/her claims of speed differences are significant and KA5 may very well be a terrible modem for him/her.

Im starting think it may depend on your geographic location also. JL5 worked great for me, and i flashed KA5 today, and it seems to be great also. i've noticed my battery might be falling a little faster with KA, but its a little less buggy when switching networks and what not. Progress in one way or another.
Ill prolly try it again with Nero 5.

Not scientific but:
JL5 downloads speeds:
5505
5033
5215
5536
4450
JL5 average: 5147.8
KA5 download speeds:
5526
5309
5132
5309
5653
KA5 average: 5385.8
I just flashed it so Im not sure an batt life. Reconditioning now.
I also had a big drop with KA5.
KA5 speetest = 1.3mbs
JL5 speetest = 3.5mbs
I also noticed the random signal drops with the KA5 modem. Back to JL5 for me. It is just not a stable modem.
Jl5 gave me 2 bars and I live like 8 blocks away from a t mobile tower, now with ka5 always full bar!
I flashed nero 5, which includes KA5 and its literally doubles my speeds, download from 1 to 2 to 2 to 4. If its good enough for team whiskey its plenty good for me
Maybe this is one of the reasons we don't have official 2.2. The lack of constant results
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't know.. but ka5 is working fine for me.. i installed the stock one with no root or cwm... just stock.. it's working fine so far. The GPS took a while to get a lock then after installing the gpsrestore, now it gets a lock fast.. my settings from j16 was all intact, even the apps that normally won't show up in the market with the leaked froyo rom are there, swiftkey, amtalee, etc. I didn't do a factory reset, just flashed through odin without a pit file...
loving it..
Or maybe the reason why the apps are in the market because this is the newest leak and the apps are available..?? the best part is, the marketplace hasn't been updated yet to the latest version, i hate the new market.. lol..oh and i can use swiftkey, the android keyboard is still not available though..
edit.. amtalee is not available in market.. ughh but still in my phone from not doing a factory reset

I'm not having issues. On my way to work I noticed a drop in signal and it took awhile to get back to having one but the towers here suck big ones for some reason. I'll test again on my way home. Voice sounds good, GPS is Average with locking it seems (Not sure about tracking), Data speeds down seems where it should be, upload speeds for me are above average by a few 100KB/S. Battery....not really sure I was actually losing battery % by having it plugged into my computer using it with wifi/GPS/BT all off and the screen at 0% brightness.....not sure if that's the modem with massive drain or my battery is just calibrating or something.
*Edit*
Yea, it's just my battery being stupid. So Battery with this is still up in the air.

Using with Speedmod K12M, and I got literally 0% drain over 8hrs idel. So far this is one of the best, if not the best modem ive tried. I was using JK3 and switched back and forth with JK4, but this is giving me way better results. Yesterday I done a few test with K12M and JK3, (posted in Hardcores thread) i managed to get 7hrs with 67% left with pretty moderate use, used the phone like I would any other day, Ill do the same with this modem and post my results after 7-8hrs..but like I said, so far this thing is rocking!

i must say, this is VERY very good modem!
First I'll start off by saying tonight was a really terrible night for me so if this comes off as venting so be it lol.
Samsung, you're getting there that's for sure. Scrolling, screen off/on is buttery smooth and things seem to be working better than I had expected.
With that being said, there is still work that needs to be done. It may just be my location, but with the EG22 modem I feel like I've been roaming more than usual. I flashed back to the EC05 modem just to see and it confirmed my suspicion: either my phone or my area just doesn't like the new modem very much.
Another key component is battery life, it's been pretty sub-par for me. At work I have terrible reception (no bars, even roaming) so I put the phone on airplane mode and the battery is still dropping pretty consistently, much faster than on any of the other leaks or Froyo. Must be a rogue process(es) eating it up, but I can't be sure unless I do some digging which I don't really feel like doing.
All in all it's definitely coming along nicely, but by no means is it phenomenal. But for the first time since DI18, I can honestly say that I feel Sammy is doing some stuff right. Keep it up, don't let us users down

My impressions of the modem/rom is they are faking things a little bit on the signal meter as I know the signal isn't that strong in those areas. And it's not like a software update just gives better signal.
I agree that it seems like I'm roaming more on EG22, but the modem doesn't seem to have any effect. For example, I ran the stock EG22 build for a while and noticed the roaming issue and weaker WiFi reception. Reverting to the the EC05 modem didn't seem to help these issues. One of the stores I work in has a WiFi router that I can access throughout the store on Froyo (EC05), but on GB (EF02/EG22), WiFi disconnects when I walk to the rear of the store. Doesn't seem to matter which modem I'm using at the time. I even flashed back to Froyo yesterday but left the EG22 modem installed. GPS, 3G, and WiFi were flawless all day everywhere I went. So it seems that there must me some code/instructions in the build itself that are more relevant than the modem firmware.
Another interesting tidbit is that there basically is no difference in EC05 and EG22 modems. Randy did a binary differencing to generate a patch between EC05 and EG22 and the patch file is 142 bytes, which is probably about enough to change the version name.
I have noticed since the first GB leak that the WiFi reception is horrible now compared to a stock Epic with FroYo.

Yes, it makes me wonder if they might have the power to the radios dialed back a bit intentionally to help them diagnose something possibly?
I have noticed the wifi bars being low, but it isn't effecting the speed at all. I consistently get 1.5mbps down/600kbps up when over 3g, and have seen 9mbps on 4g. Call quality seems good as well. As for battery drain? It might be a bit faster than I'm used too, but then again, I'm coming from SRF 1.2. If there are any issues with the TWLauncher, I don't notice them because I'm a LauncherPro user. Issues with the browser? I use Dolphin, so if there are any, again, I don't know. Overall though, this ROM is stable enough for daily use.

Im on .58 still having this problem !
Is this doomkernel faulty? Im using doom kernel
I should note I use LT15a, you should state your model. I'm using doomkernel v15 with no issue, stock ROM otherwise.
I got problem with my Neo too since I update to .42. Not the biggest issue but I notice in the battery graph much more time without a signal than before. Stock ROM and Kernel here.
thats what i say.
anybody has the same problem
I dont know if its same as you guys but my bars are always fulklk cause I have very good signal in my area but if I go battery usage and click on the graph it shows my signal as orangy colour which means signal is crap. Normally its always green. I only noticied this since .42
Exactly the same men
Yes i'm also facing the same issue of signal drop and reception getting refreshed every time after update. Since i'm on 3G 24/7 I have also noticed that the phone gets bit heated up every time in standby also causing the battery drain fast.
Try the .368 baseband (-36) with the latest firmware. The reception issue will disappear. I'm using it for quite sometime and it's pretty stable and neat.

I have noticed accidentally yesterday that after I had my stock headphones pluggeed in the Note, the typical curve of the battery drain became much flatter and the different wakes during screen off have almost disappeared. The moment I unplugged the headphones, the battery drain went back to the usual 2-3% per hour on standby.
I am running stock LQ3 and stock kernel. I am rooted, as I have flashed it through Mobile ODIN, over stock, rooted LPY.
I have quite a lot sync-accounts - twitter, facebook, gmail, email, weather widget etc. so I am quite used to relatively short battery life but the trick with the headphones came as quite a surprise.
Before writing this post I decided to test it today as well and it is the same.
So, could someone test this and report? I think that if this proves to be true and common, the devs could easily track what's happening exactly and sort things out, so that battery can live longer without the headphones plugged in.

Ugh...I am terribly sorry, this was meant for the General Discussion. Please, admin, move it there.
I've noticed that same if the SAR of the last samsung mobile is very low, the reception is quite good compared to other phones.
Do you notice also an improvement of the signal reception? Because if it is the case, it is that your headphones are used as a secondary antenna, giving the phone a stronger reception and less power consumption (better signal = less need of power usage for processing the signal)
This is just a theory...
After some ICS ROMs I went back to Gingerbread, mainly due to poor battery life.
When Litening ROM 2.0 was published I flashed that one. I liked the GB version a lot. The battery life was remarkable, a lot better than previous ICS ROMs. Because Litening is not much supported I tried Alba, also LQ3. A surprise because battery life was the same. I think I'll stick to ICS this time.

Alba often uses LB2 modem (from GB) in his ROMs - maybe it is the reason. I myself observed huge batterey drain on latest ICS ROMs while connected to Wi-Fi at my workplace. Fixed it by flashing ZCLP5 modem (from early "LP5 leak" ROM).

Hm, that is an interesting theory. I am not sure, however, that the headphones' cable really improves GSM radio reception. I think it is only for FM reception. Of course I have no knowledge behind that, just thinking.
I have frozen lots or apps in Titanuim Backup like:
- the whole range of SNS's
- Social Hub
- Wi-fi sharing manager
- the infamous wssyncmlnps
- software update service, etc
Also I have stopped a bunch of receivers, using Autorun Manager Pro, and disabled a lot of processes from Autostarts.
This should mean that I have opted out the most common battery drainers. I have tried to disable auto-sync for the time being, but that does not seem to be much of a drainer, so maybe the real problem comes somewhere from the modem.

Hey dimcus, i've been having this WiFi vs battery issues with some routers(including the one at home), weird enough it doesn't happen on some of them. I did read somewhere about flashing te Modem file, what leads me to a couple of questions ir you don't mind. Are you on ICS? Do i need to be root to flash the Modem file? If not, any risks involved? I'm on stock ICS LPY DBT.
Thanks in advance,

I flashed the ZCLP6 modem earlier today, guessing that it would be better than ZCLP5.
It is too early to judge but first impressions are that maybe there is a slight improvement in battery on 3G but not something worth it over the stock XXLPT that I used to have and generally battery drain on wifi seems as bad as it has been ever since I flashed ICS.
I have read that some people dared to wipe their Notes and after that most of the problems had disappeared but I don't want to risk getting some brick.
I will try several other popular modems and will report back.

Unfortunately after several different ICS Roms (From Stock LPY to Cleanote 2.20) with several different Kernels (Stock, SpeedMod, Goku and more) and few modems (XXLPT, ZCLP5) I had to go back to Ginger due to extremely poor battery life. With all roms /kernels/modems combination the behavior was very similar. The phone was going into deep sleep pretty easily when idle with very low battery drain. On the other hand when using the phone I was getting about 10% drain each 20 minutes (A little less with data wifi and all sync off). I was also getting overheating with temp most of the times over 40 deg C. This drain was almost the same even with system energy savings on. I could not understand the reason for this strange behavior considering that many other users are having great battery life on ICS with their devices. Anyone is experiencing this situation ? NB now with Ginger the battery life is ok.
