[Q] Does roms of other hc tablets work on iconia? - Acer Iconia A500

Hello, is it possible to run ROM's of other HC tablets with the same hardware on the iconia?
Advanced thx

Easy answer: No.
The Acer Tab does have a cooked Galaxy rom for it though.

Here's the link for all the alternative ROMS. For the Iconia.

[Q] Getting an A501, got some questions.

Hey, so in a few days I'll be getting an Acer Iconia A501 and I have a few questions regarding ROM's and kernels and other things.
1: Can you flash an A500 rom on an A501 device and still be able to use 3G? (I'm pretty sure that's a no but I'm asking anyway just to be sure)
2: Are there any custom OC kernels out for the A501?
3: Can you make phone calls?

1. You can flash it, but your internal 3g won't work. Reasons are several. First, which is relatively easy to fix, is the build.prop file is for the a500, and thus set to wifi only. This can be fixed with a simple edit. But secondly, there are probably differences in several key files, like framework.res that are coded for just the a500 and 501 specifically.
2. Most of the kernels can be used on 500 or 501 roms, unless specifically stated by the dev, so no problem there. Most cooked roms come with a cooked kernel for overclocking. Or the Stock Rooted roms are exactly that (stock kernel). Most popular are Richard Trips, Thor's, and a couple of others in the dev threads.
3. No. Both models do not contain a true radio such as in a phone. So you will have to use an IP phone app.
The 500 and 501 share mostly the exact same hardware, albeit the internal 3g. As such, they share pretty much the same version of Android. But changes in key files make the difference between a 500 and 501. If you run a 500 rom on a 501, you won't see much difference, just no 3g. Maybe a couple of small errors, but who knows. I often run a 500 rom for testing.

[Q]advise on a good ROM SGT 7.7

Hi, just rooted my tab , and now wondering if I should flash a custom ROM. Any advice selecting a stable ROM? Having a hard time to figure out which one to choose. A lot more easy with a HTC Sensation because of more to choose from. I like CM9 with ICS, but can't find it to the 7.7
Tnx
Stick with the stock ROM, and install Go Launcher HD if you feel like TouchWiz is slow.
The ROMs in the development section at best are only fractionally better than stock, and there is no ICS build, stable or unstable, for the 7.7 as of yet.
Seams like the devs are waiting for the ics update first to make custom roms off that.(i have the P6810)

[Q] HC 3.2 and ICS 4.03 advantages

Hello All,
What is advantages of ICS 4.03 from HC 3.2 ?
Did i find stable rom with ICS fully worked with all hardware of Acer A500 and have 3G USB support?
Thanks in advance.
I'm still playing with my new device, but I can say that I've noticed a significant difference in performance between stock (non-ICS) and one of the many ICS variants (Icylicious). It's a really good change, despite my not being able to fix my screen scrolling issue.
I can't say for certain anything about 3G via USB, since I don't have a 3G USB adapter.

Personally, I prefer to stick with my 3.2.1 until Acer releases an official rom, and not a Beta release. Too many small issues to deal with. Not to mention who knows what will happen with the bootloaders in the future releases.

This could be an interesting ROM if modified for our NOTE! gtab 7.7 ICS

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749854
So I was thinking that if the galaxy tab 7.7 ICS ROM that's just been released could be modified for our note we would have a proper working touchwiz tablet mode at long last!
All the official TouchWIZ ICS roms don't support tablet (<213dpi) mode at all due to FCs but here is a working touchwiz based tablet mode ICS rom - albeit for a different device that could be modified to work in our NOTE...
This would resolve most of the hardware/video acceleration issues that affect AOSP and CM9 based roms.
Anyone interested in this??
Thoughts..?
Nice to see a Tablet Stock Rom aboard !! +1 if someone could port it for our note !
okay, just adding the launcher didnt work - why should it be so easy
+100,000,000
I so need a tablet TW ROM lol, Ive tried PA and it was awesome, but just not for me, I missed the Samsung features, Widgets, S-Pen ect ect....
hoping someone can get this ported

Multi windows like Samsung Galaxy?

Would it be possible on our device?
Thank you

I think Thor had that Onskreen Cornerstone was working on one of his ICS builds, not sure if it's still implemented though.
I was reading a little about it just today and I discovered that this feature is TouchWiz related... I don't know if there is a way to bring it for non Samsung devices
Thor did have it working on his ICS ROM.
Conerstone abandoned support....so it was pulled from future builds
is Multi Window the same as Kornerstone?
I thought it was something new.
maybe time for a Samsung port? I miss TW on my acer...
looks like it could be achieved through an app or custom launcher? very cool to have on a tablet.
How?
Yhanks

Samsung's implementation of Multi Window is buried very deeply into their TouchWiz code. It can't even be ported to an S3 or Note 2 running an AOSP rom, which I currently use. It depends on too many TW libraries to even consider porting.
Kornerstone was an older attempt at this feature, but was abandoned by its creators and the latest version of Thor's ROM that contained it (circa build v164 for ICS) was buggy as hell due to Kornerstone. Thor removed it from his subsequent ROMs (at least by v169).
Alas, there is absolutely zero possibility we will EVER see Samsung's Multi Window on our A500, or any non-TW ROM.
Try VirtuousGalaxy
One week ago I downgraded my bootloader to be able to use Virtuous Galaxy Rom, that have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 TouchWiz Interface with mini-apps (only 7) in little windows that you can move and interact with them as you want, but is 10000 times more limited than the posibilitis that Note 10.1 TouchWiz gives.
The first drawback is that this Rom still in Hc 3.2 and it have a worse performance than the 4.x.x and that you have to downgrade your bootloader (If you have Dual Bootloader V8 ICS) and then you can only install HC roms.
I was asking for a 4.x ICS Bootloader TouchWiz Rom there and in other forums but nobody says anything. I tryed to give the code of Touchwiz and tryied to port a rom, but it was imposible to me (I have no enought knowledge about it)
Sorry for my bad English, i'm Spanish
