Hello guys - Galaxy Tab General

Hello am new to this forum just thought i would say hello i have a gt p1010 and its rooted on froyo so what do i do now with it

Have fun, welcome aboard.
Use it to watch TV, (thechanner) or setup a voip client.
You will have many hours of fun with it.

Angry birds on a larger than smartphone screen
I personally use it in place of my 10" netbook when I just need web browsing and emails at home.
More comfortable than a smartphone screen. (3.7" on my Nexus One)
I suggest you to flash a custom rom, gingerbread, ext4 filesystem instead of Samsung's rfs, and overclocking cpu gives a smoother and faster Tab.
If you want to stay stock, just update to official gingerbread (JQ1 rom I think), and re-root it (you'll lose root with updating).

Thanks guys i have a iphone that i mod and change am new to android so be a while till i figure everything out so far am doing good i think amazing machines these

Firstly, forget about updating as you have the wifi only version(GT-P1010). Read through the developement section and make sure your tab is gonna like the rom/kernel you (try to) put on it. Wifi only tab doesn't play nice with the gsm or cdma roms.... Tends to brick.
Don't say you haven't been warned...

Thanks ultra

What OC settings do you guys use?

Yeah i got the gsm mainly because of the large support compared to the 1010 and cdma versions.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

I got the gsm version as it cost me less than what it would have cost me buying the 1010
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

I got the GSM version cause it was the only model I could get at the time...
Hardware specs seem to be better than the wifi version too...

I dont have a clue what i got tbh lol ask me anything about modding iphones i can talk al day as for android stuff i aint got a clue
Sent from my GT-P1010 using XDA Premium App

I got a GSM version cos I live in Australia, where CDMA has been dead for years.
As for whoever it was who asked about OC'ing. I generally leave my Tab running Overcome3-Jupiter at a max of 1.3 unless I'm doing something heavy when I clock it all the way up to 1.6. I usually undervolt by about 150 near the high end of the scale, but then back to normal voltage by about 600MHz. (Weird, I know, but it seems to work well on my device).
And for the OP, don't worry about not understanding stuff. Android hacking's got a bit of a steep learning curve sometimes. Just hang around on XDA, read up about different ROMS/Kernels/hacks and remember that Google is always your friend.

Thanks agc

i use overcome rom ans still on default setting, the default already faster than the stock, and battery friendly. Since I m a battery lover, I think i will UC instead of OC

rabbit79, you have a wifi only version. GT-P1010 is wifi only. GT-P1000 is GSM, not sure about CDMA as agc93 said, no choice but to get GSM.
I believe there are 1 or 2 roms in the developement section for the P1010, best idea is to look...

ThereĀ“s no custom ROM for P1010...
I think sansung should named it "Bastard Tab"... No one loves it. 8))

wouldn't download from my phone either, I had to do it from my computer.
I've been running this for a couple days now. And its freaking awesome. One of the more original roms that are around. I really like the toggles in the notification. Took me a minute to find them tho. I flashed this twice before I figured it out. I haven't had any issues at all. Except for the occasional browser crash but I've got that with every ics rom. To download on your phone try requesting desktop page, or use opera mobile. I'm hanging on to this one for a while. If only I could get the on screen buttons.

I typically use Pete's ROMs, because I like the vanilla experience. I've heard some good things about this ROM though, so I'm considering it. How "vanilla" is it?
As a gauge, I think CM7 is far too "bloated". No hate, just personal preference.

Since I have seen the Nexus devices confused in this thread I hope this helps.
i9020T - SAMOLED GSM with AWS bands for T-Mobile's 3g.
i9020A - SAMOLED GSM with ATT's 3g bands.
i9023 - SLCD GSM sold in some European countries.
D720 - SAMOLED CDMA and WiMAX for Sprints 3g and 4g networks. The D720 is the only Nexus S model to carry the 4G tag as its the only nexus s with 4g.
Hope that helps clear the confusion.

My friend, I think you should have asked this question before ordering it and may be read a thread discussing Galaxy Note issues:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728974
Anyway, if you're after the big display, you won't regret. And be sure to read all the stickies and guides before trying to flash anything
I enjoy mine very much and I hope you'll be happy with yours as well!
p.s. If you purchase a case, make sure it's a "magnet free" one - many users (incl. myself) complained of S-pen interference from the magnet of the case.

Should't even think of trying the Note.
1. The real big screen will make your eyes taking more time in looking around it.
2. Its vividness will hurt your eyes.
3. You will not be welcome by stationery shop just because of the S-pen.
4. USB drive connecting ability allow you too much flexibility. This may force you to even carry a mouse everywhere with you just for doing something requiring such high precision on the Note.
5. It may waste lots of your times playing high-end HD games due to its too much CPU power.
Don't go for the Note please ^^

To the OP: Do read all the stickies as somebody already said. Flashing is NOT hard on the note, it just requires you to know what you are doing; once you read all the stickies carefully and thoroughly, am quite sure you would know what to flash, what not to and how to flash. Cheers!

Is it too different than flashing other phones?
Like, flash a recovery then copy zip and apply update?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA Premium HD app
the principal is the same yes, But however there is a major bug in the stock ICS kernel(s) can that cause hardbrick (brickbug) when doing a factory reset.
So long as you flash a safe kernel before hand you will be fine, Just read the guides and if you have any issues / questions, dont be afraid to ask.
Also check my Signature for real time IRC chat.
It's confirmed. Will get mine today after work. Got it for about 400 dollars, on my carrier points program.
The only problem I may have will be with kernels?

There's some stickys in development section:
Dr ketans to do with flashing stock roms, and a separate one for rooting and installing cwm.
Another on the superbrick or emmc bug affecting most ics kernels. Includes information on safe kernels that have had emmc format bug removed.
Those are the main ones to get you started.
Welcome, you won't be disappointed!

Paranoid on this beast is awesome. If you go for paranoid, I'd recommend using v0.2a rather than 0.3, there's a couple of issues with gps and mms on 0.3. Imilka (the dev has said he's working on an update and he's usually pretty sharpish so think 0.4 will be out v soon.
Sent from my Paranoid Android GT-N7000. It doesn't get much better than this!
My note is Thailand version. There's nothing to be worried as long as you're not running yourself into hacking stuffs though I did once and even I did the famous frightening FactoryReset! when I was on Rooted Stock ICS after stuck in booting loops because of playing with VM Heap size tweak (set it below 64m will trigger this, so be careful).
I survive the night and day because of lots sharing in this forum. I learned how to do flashing ROM with Odin and other fearful stuffs I've never even though I would have need to get through it.
So, I recommend you just try using it, as it is first since pre-installed ICS may have something different, with 3 to 5 days/full recharge cycles and then let see any of what will be bothering you.
To have 14+ hours battery life on my Note with normal use (3G/Wifi all times, note taking, Facebook..etc..and of course the XDA app) running stock ICS, I did;
- Rooted
- Battery calibration
- SetCPU profiles
- Leave the SD Card slot empty
- Off auto screen brightness
- Manually control screen brightness, 30% to minimum values are good enough to my eyes
- OFF auto Hovering pen icon (ON only when I really need)
- OFF Screen Capture service (ON only when I really need)
- Freeze un-needed services
It's hard to identify which tweak saves how much % battery life, there are just cumulative tricks from my little experience. Lots of last tweaks are done by TB.
Guys.

Hello, Looks like I shall be joining you all with a S3. =)

Well tm I get my Pebble Blue S3 and then I get to have fun modding and tweaking it. Sadly last night my G1 was stolen.. sigh.. my 4 year old phone. Least I managed to talk T-Mobile into getting me the S3 for my upgrade for 130$. Woot.
So I hear CM10 is actually the best way to go with S3 as of now? Nice and smooth?
Anyways wanted to say Hi and will look forward to posting with you all tm after ups bring me it. =)

Welcome to the magic world of the Galaxy S3!
Well....it's a matter of choice really!
I used to use cm9 because cm10 has a memory bug that requires you to reboot the phone once in a while...
I switched back to stock though...
For me it's better than cm because my music sounds better on stock, the camera is much better and also it has great deals in samsung apps!
For example you can get Modern Combat 3,Asphalt 7,Shadowgun and Virtua tennis all for free!
Try using foxhound ics ron which has reached a final stage and is perfect!
I use that combined with siyah kernel and i am a very veryyy happy man!
Try it and you'll remember me...
I wouldn't recommend using jellybean leaks because they are buggy....never the less the official update will come very soon,i think you should wait a liltle bit!

Ill keep it in mind about the ICS one. Also Ive seen reports about the CM10 being ASOP. And that its smooth as butter without a memory problem. However if you are saying stock is nice. Idk, hard to say lol. Well wait, no I may not stay with stock. Anyone know if stock has cifs.ko support in its kernel? That to me is a vital part of any rom I get.. and with a device with HDMI output.. yea, network files for videos is good. (And not just DLNA)
Yea if I used my G1 for 4 years (Along with others in my sig for playing around with) then I can only imagine how well this device will serve me. Also I should be able to use Splashtop 2 or Splashtop HD shouldnt I since this has a high resolution?
Edit: Wait so this isnt the right forum for T-Mobiles S3? (Curse you google xda search for forum section)
Search the original android development for cifs.ko mate...
Now if you want hdmi like me stay away from aosp...
It's not supported and most likely never will be...

It all depends on the software. If its on 2.2 froyo you would use unrevoked. If its on GB 2.3.3 you would use revolutionary.io and if its GB 2.3.5 you have to use HTC dev unlock. +2 on tommy's rom. Is under the new evo 4g original development section. As far as rooting go is pretty straight forward, just find out which android version she is running ( which might be 2.3.5 ), and go from there.

Depends on preference, Tommy's rom's great. but have some variants for her. also may just show her some rom's she'll most likely want gb for stability and best performance. also HTC Sense rom's lagg a bit in my opinion AOSP seems to lag less for me and run more in a operational fashion.
edit install rom manager on her device and keep her stock rooted tell her she can change the software via that app. screen shot's info and downloads all in one nice little user friendly app.
Thanks for the great info guys. I'll be working on her phone tonight.
Just to make sure, with these roms, she still be able to use the HDMI out on the phone?

Responses from the phone seem to be major improvement.... if your hesitant of upgrading. I suggest it.. I did a clean install to make sure nothing got corrupted or possible FC so far so good.. can't thank you enough

Perhaps you can find a used nexus 4.
agree it's a great build using 20130101 experimental 10.1 preview. Much faster than cm10 (do clean install if your cm10 is laggy, o/w dirty flash worked for 3 other phones but must clear clock app data).
even with clean install I get occasional trebuchet has force closed errors.
also losing 3g signal and wifi connectivity intermittently, not sure if it's my phone or this build.
everyone using FC09 stock modem? or what should we be using.

The 20130101 experimental 10.1 preview is running smooth for me. No fc's but did have one reboot so far, still a clean rom though over all. I'm using the LF2 modem and Nitest kernel with the ns4g modem patch by Nashdogg and have noticed my 3g speeds doubled in some places.
I'm running latest FC09 stock modem. I seem to be having no problems with it... if you want to comment on the dev forums with cm 10.1, I would stay as stock as possible so they can help as much a possible in case you encounter any problems

There a new build of CM10.1 from 1-20. Just reflashed with that so hoping for the best. Overall, been happy with CM10.1
