Maybe this will be the root solution for the folks who are on 2.3.3.
Nice post man this better be good. I already have root but still be cool if they released it for the shift. But if it is a root solution it'll probably be evo 3D or EVO not the shift but fingers crossed right?

I'm fully rooted, but maybe this will mean we can get a lower level root, similar to the Evo 4G, where we can take system updates, and then just re-flash a recovery, and gain our root back.
I know Shinzul's twitter mentioned about the OG Evo, and the Shift being tested, so not sure if it will mean the tool will work right away, or if there will be more testing to be done for the Shift.
I hope so, need to nuke me some bloatware...
This is in no way a bookmark so I can come back to the same thread/link after I get home from work Excited to see what is in store.

I think this more directly refers to the teamwin recovery that is being built, but you can't flash a recovery without being s-off (technically), so I'm going to go with the glass half-full philosophy.

Will the Evo Shift ever get an update like Gingerbread, Sense 2.whatever (Desire HD/Inspire/Thunderbolt), or Sense 3 (Evo 3D sense)? Has anyone said that this will or would not happen?
Really hoping on it. I don't why HTC shipped this with the older version of sense. Maybe for gingerbread update???

That would make sense (no pun intended ). After all the two new flagship products by Sprint are the Nexus S and EVO 3D so they'll want to push Gingerbread as a feature on those phones before they upgrade the Shift. I doubt they'll update the original EVO though. But in the mean time there's always CM7 and the other 3rd party Gingerbread ROMs. :3

I'm pretty sure the EVO 3D will become the new flagship product when its released this summer and over shadow the popularity of the original EVO. Even if the whole 3D thing doesn't take off its still a superior design and you can bet Sprint will be pushing that fact.

There's no way that the EVO or EVO Shift won't receive @ least the next 2 O/S updates. The backlash that would result if it doesn't would be ridiculous, even by Sprint standards.

I'm pretty sure the Shift will get the next update or 2 as it came out recently. The EVO has been around a while though and the EVO 3D looks as if its been purposely designed to be the original EVO's successor. From a business standpoint it doesn't make sense to continue long-term support for a device that has been replaced. Its with that in mind that I say I doubt the EVO will get Gingerbread.

Hey guys I'm coming from the HTC inspire to HTC evo. Over at the inspire forums they have a super one click option to take s off and root the device it was very simple with video instructions as well. What's the easiest way you guys have here to root the evo? I was looking at a thread but it has about 50 steps any other way around that? Is there a super one click option?
unfortunately... those of us with the OTA update are stuck with rootless EVO's...
the fortunate users had previously rooted their phones with a drag and drop i believe... (don't take my word on that, i joined the root sensation a little late... hence my rootless phone) but i think it was like 5 steps er so... it didn't look too bad and it was even easier for you if your on a linux platformed pc with unrevoked er sumthing like that...
either way the EVO is an outstanding phone and i stand by it, until something better comes out... (not the nexus s)
If you have a android 2.2 model go to http://unrevoked.com/#evo for the easiest to use tool around.
If you have android 2.3.3 go to http://vaseline.com/ and lube up because you are screwed until someone releases an exploit

Its certainly not going to be OG Evo oriented. That much is clear. However, progress is progress. These guys were talking about a universal bootloader unlocker. This could be it. If not, its root for 3d/sensation. Now they focus on OG Evo.

what i do know is they said the exploit they found would work across all bootloaders with some tweaking, that said however, the 3d is a lot more locked down than the evo is, and i believe the current temp root for 3d doesnt work for the OG evo because they work differently , even though they use the same or similar bootloaders, i could be getting some of it wrong but u get the jist of it
Well they released revolutionary for almost all phones but the EVO.
The thing I dont get is why do they hack the phones that will have S-OFF shortly and not the ones that will not??????

don't count the OG developers out just yet.
You know what. I don'tget this at all. They started unrEVOked for the Evo 4g. But the suprising thing is that they still support the desire and aria. If it doesn't come out, we should try looking in the code for the desire or aria roots to seeif we can use any of that for the evo.
I am unrooted now because sprint tried to force me to buy the evo 3d for the full 500 dollar price, so I have to wait til april to upgrade (but I'm waithing for kal-el processors.
I believe the exploit they have found isn't available on our phone. If that's the case its an exploit only in sense 2.1+. Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Dont be sad guys im sure the evo will get root soon. Yes alot of devs jumped ship to 3D but theres still plenty great devs that are using their evo 4G's. They had root a while back for the 3D but couldnt release it just yet because it could potentially show htc how they found root or what exploit they found and htc would patch it. I dont know who's trying to root the latest gb on evo but im sure someone is doing it...Now just gotta find an exploit in gb to take advantage of to unlock 2.3.

from root wiki:
Will you release the source code?
At this time, we are not disclosing the vulnerability we have exploited.
That doesn't seem fair! Android is about open source.
In some senses, we agree; but at times, a tradeoff needs to be made. Releasing the source code for this, we believe, would compromise the greater ability to unlock devices like these in the future. Given the choice between sacrificing the liberty of running code on our handsets and the liberty of reading the code by which we unlock it, we feel that the millions of handsets are more important. It is unfortunate that we must make such a choice, and we look forward to the day in the future that no such decision need be made.
ie progress for OG EVO?
I love my rooted evo. I cant see myself going back to stock ever

What devices will not get Android 4.0?
We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. The evo4g has been put on End Of Life status via sprint so it will not be receiving any OS updates, the only things it will receive if any are security patches on the 2.3.5 platform and maybe a push to 2.3.6 at the highest. It will never see an official ICS update, from HTC or sprint due to sprint classifying it as EOL
