Need some help - Blade General

Hi i buy the san francisco smart phone 2 days ago, and i want to make it better.
Firs i want to delete some custom apps like guitar hero, etc, a friend of mine told me that i have to route my cell phone, i search about it but i'm afraid of losing warranty, second he told me that rout the phone only to remove some apps is stupid and i should update my room from 2.1 to 2.2.
Can i do this without have to rout my phone?

No you need to root to remove the apps or install a custom ROM that will overwrite the custom apps.
You should still be protected against hardware faults even with a custom ROM or with a rooted phone.

hi i followed this tutorial sanfranciscoandroid.co.**
and i already rooted my phone but when im doing this
Superuser will ask for permission. Tap OK.
Tap the Recovery tab.
Tap Install Recovery.
Tap /sdcard/download/clock.img
Tap OK.
Wait for the Installing box to disappear.
Done!
the app says current installed recovery unrecognised it's normal? or i did something wrong?

I resolve i update database and now it says currently installed Recovery ClockWorldMod Recovery v3.0.0.6 ,
what it means? what is clockWorldMod and what it does ? and what does mand5?
Should i install a custom room if yes how? and if i can restore to my default room if I don't like it? and how to make it safe..

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with any of that.
Download this: http://www.filesonic.com/file/1539940224/gsf-blade-b17-tpt.zip
To use it follow these instructions.
To install: Unzip the file to the root of your sdcard, it will create an 'image' folder. Check the integrity of the files using AFV (available from android market) to find the nandroid.md5 file in the image directory, then long press on it & verify nandroid backup. Turn off your phone, leave it for at least 30 seconds, then hold menu & volume + when you power it on. You should see some green text (may be just a blank screen) then it should reboot & you should see a big android while it is performing it's first boot (this will take a while). Once it has successfully started up don't forget to delete the image folder on your sd card, to prevent any accidents.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This will upgrade your phone to a 2.3 ROM, upgrade it to Gen 2 and remove the Orange apps in the process. This process is reversable if you really need to undo it.
You can find what Clockworkmod & MD5 are by Googling it.

hummm i see but i already have install ClockworkMod Recovery is that a problem?

Nope, should be fine.

nevermind about waranty,ZTE is a descent smartphone

[Q] Lost root after OTA update.

This is my situation...
I recently rooted for my Wildfire using Unrevoked3, have no installed any custom roms whatsoever.
To install the new firmware (Update 1.25.405.1) i followed a guide which involved renaming it to update.zip and used clockmodrecovery to install update.zip from the SD card.
Update was successful however i lost the root (as expected)
I tried to rerun unrevoked 3 to reroot but all it does is reboot my device and it remains unrooted.
On the HBOOT recovery menu i now get a red triangle with an exclamation mark against a black background. i do power + volume up and it says android system recovery and in yellow 'E: Cant open/cache/recovery command'
How can i reroot my phone so i can use apps such as titanium backup once again? (and yes ive tried to install busybox and i get a failed error message)
I have looked around the forums and made lots of searches some of which address this question but i am yet to find a solution which works... Im sorry if this question is redundant as i am new to this sorta thing.
Thanks.
Did you follow this guide?
Update: What I did to succesfully install the update on a rooted phone
- unplug phone from USB, let it download update (it's about 13 Mb in size)
- phone will ask to reboot -> update will fail, you will be dumped in clockworkmod
- As always, do a Nandroid backup before doing anything that might possibly render your phone unusable.
- Select update from zip/sdcard (or similar), navigate to zip in downloads folder
- the update process will start
- reboot (this can be a longer boot than usual, took 10 minutes on my phone)
- phone will notify you that the update has succeeded! If you've upgraded from your stock ROM (like I did), the phone info screen should look similar to that in the attached image.
- (reflash needed for root)
It doesn't say to rename the file though.
I'm going to do this now (im guessing youre on TM too?)
thanks for the info, i'm just about to do the same thing, after trying [ROM][04/10] WildPuzzleROM v8.0.5; until i realised there are still problems, got scared and restroed nandroid backup Couldn't get marketplace to load?
when phone reboots after downloading the update, i guess its supposed to be installed by the recovery program, but i have clockworkmod, I tried apply sdcard:update; get error back with failed to open update.zip and sig veri failed.
Not sure what to do? Will try booting normally, checking sd theres a file called 'OTA_Buzz_TMO_UK_1.25.110.1_R-1.14.110.1_R_release31o90ome6fwgje76.zip' on the sd card under download folder. will try renaming to update.zip and placing in \sdcard root folder
otherwise i'm thinking rom manager to install, but mobilism is down it seems and can't get hold of it
EDIT: Just rename the update put it in the \sdroot. Boot into recovery and install update.zip. works fine, takes ages, very scarey process.
Will try going back to puzzle when i have more time! Lets hope 1.25 don't crash as frequently!
Yes, i did follow all those instructions and it still didnt work. However i have managed to reroot my wildfire haha so problem is resolved. It was a stupid problem, after i rooted the first time, i reinstalled htc sync to sync some stuff but forgot to uninstall. After uninstalling it again i was able to reroot.
Sorry guys... very silly mistake by me.

[HOWTO] Flawless bell update

WELCOME
to the WINDOWS Bell Atrix 0.37.4 update guide on how to go from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2! (without problems )
===================================================================================================================================================
WARNING
Do not attempt any of these steps if you are on an international firmware. You will probably brick your phone. This guide was made to help people who are having trouble updating from 0.37.4 to the new bell 2.2.2.
Bell users:
Please note that flashing files to your phone and modifying system contents can brick your phone. However, the method I am sharing worked flawlessly for myself and others.
Before beginning:
You need root access on your phone. If you are not sure what root access is, you shouldn't be having problems updating, because you wouldn't have modified system files. Regardless, here is a thread on how to root a bell atrix.
Guide:
Step 1:
Download Titanium Backup from android marketplace, and back up all of your apps and games. This is necessary only if you want to have an easy reinstall of most of your apps and games, as we will be wiping data off of the phone. (if you have another backup program, it should work just fine. Make sure it saves the backup to a folder that you can copy onto your computer)
Step 2:
Remove the external microsd card from your phone (if you have one). This is simply for safety purposes, as we don't want any data being wiped off of this (we don't need the microsd any time during the process).
Now, copy (or cut) all of the data from your internal storage to your computer, just in case, and we are about to wipe data off of your phone.
Step 3:
Format your phone. This can be done two different ways.
The first method is the simplest:
Menu -> Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset.
The second method (if for some reason you can't do the first) is:
Turn off your phone. Turn it back on while holding the volume down key. It will show the word FastBoot. Keep pressing the volume down key until you reach android recovery. Press the volume up key. Wait patiently. Once a little man appears, there should be a menu. If there isn't, press both the bottom left and bottom right corners of the screen simultaneously. That should bring up the menu. (give it a few tries, it takes me 8-10 lol). From this menu, press volume down until you get to wipe data, then press ok on the bottom left corner (give this a few tries too).
Step 4:
Your phone should now be acting like you just bought it. It should, upon reboot, prompt you to enter your country.. etc. Make sure you either use your existing motoblur account, or create a new one. It is just important for you to have a blur account for the update process (my phone gave me hell when I didn't have one). Do what is necessary to get your phone up and running again.
Step 5:
This is where the fun begins. Reroot your phone usinggladroot(or any other root method you know how to use). Download Superuser, install it, then download Root Checker from android marketplace to confirm root access. Whenever a Superuser popup comes up, confirm / say yes (and make sure the remember box is checked).
Once you have confirmed root access, proceed to the next step.
Step 6:
Download Tenfar's CWM recovery, and install the apk on your phone. Follow the instructions inside of the app to install recovery and enable recovery mode.
Step 7:
Download these two files, and put them in the root of your internal storage. (By root, I mean in the very first directory, ie. F:/put file here)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23800522/Blur_Version.0.37.4.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA.zip
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23800522/Blur_Version.0.37.4.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA.crc
Step 8:
We are now ready to start fixing up the phone, and preparing it for the update.
First of all, we need to make sure ADB (the program we will be using on our computer) has root access on our atrix when it is plugged into our computer via usb.
Before plugging in your atrix via usb, enable USB debugging via:
Menu-> Settings-> Applications -> Development -> Check USB Debugging.
Now plug the atrix into your computer, and set the USB connection to: None. Check to make sure USB Debugging is in your notification bar.
Download these files onto your computer if you do not have the adb files yet. Extract the files preferably into the root of your hard drive (ie C:/ ) is just makes things easier this way.
Now open up command prompt.
If it is not in the directory where the adb.exe file is, you will need to type:
cd C:/
into command prompt. This says "change directory to C:/" (or wherever you put the files, could be cd C:/Program Files/ could be anywhere. wherever you extracted them to.)
Once in this new directory, type this into command prompt and press enter:
adb devices
If a device pops up (mine said TY290380 or something like that) that means that it recognizes your atrix. That is great news. We now have to enable ADB root access on the phone.
If nothing pops up, or it says some sort of error, you are not in the directory where adb.exe is located. Navigate to the proper directory.
Now, type the following command:
adb shell
One of two things can happen here. It will either create a new line with a $, or a new like with a #.
blah blah C:/ adb shell
$
or
blah blah C:/ adb shell
#
If a $ came up, you need to prepare a command BUT DONT PRESS ENTER YET. Type in "su", but dont hit enter. Now go to your phone and unlock your screen. After you unlock your screen and can see your homepages, press enter on your keyboard doing the "su" command. Now look at your phone. A superuser request should appear. Hit yes, and make sure that "remember" is checked. If not, it is ok, as long as the su command went through on your screen. it should now show a # on your command line.
For those of you who had a # on your command line, type in shsu and hit enter, then type in su and hit enter (just to play it safe ).
We are now ready to flash the first files to our device. You can close the command window.
Step 9:
Download this file. It is the original unmodified system partitions and files (thank you NFHimself). Extract the file using winrar or 7zip.
Change your USB connection on your phone to: Mass Storage, wait a minute or so, and then put the extracted file "mmcblk0p12.bin" in your internal storage on your phone. (ie. F:/ )
Step 10:
Dismount the phone from your usb devices via windows hardware manager. Unplug your atrix from your usb. Reconnect it, and choose connection type: none. Make sure usb debugging is in your notification bar.
Now, re-open command prompt. Renavigate to the directory where your adb files are located using the "cd C:/" command (or wherever your files are). Once there, perform "adb devices". Make sure a device is there. Next, perform the command "adb shell". You should have a #. Type in shsu, hit enter, now su, hit enter (just to be sure).
Now copy this command and hit enter (you have to right click paste into cmd prompt):
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p12.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12
This will begin the flashing process, which will restore all stock system partitions allowing us to update properly. However, it's not over yet .
Mine took a few mins, do not panic. Simply wait for it to say "Complete" in x amount of seconds or whatever. Your phone may crash, but it should boot up fine (if not, that is why we have installed Tenfar's CWM )
After it is complete, turn off your phone. Keep it connected to the computer.
Step 11:
Boot up your phone holding volume down. Navigate to android recovery using volume down. Volume up. Open up the menu with the bottom left bottom right press. Go to clear cache. Press OK. Now reboot your phone.
You can now update through settings and it should work properly. If not, respond in here and I will guide you a few more codes, but it should work.
The phone should now boot up, and it should be running android version 2.2.2.
Regard this thread for how to root the new bell update. Just a heads up, it wiped my internal storage and SD card, so remove and backup that stuff. Lol. But it did root.
Now reinstall your backup program, and get your phone going again!
If you have any questions or problems please post them here and I will reply ASAP, personal messages are hard to keep track of. Thanks again to NFHimself for supplying files and code.
Cheers!
PS: I just finished exams, yay!?
Please say if you notice anything misspelled, etc. Gratzi

You sure? I clicked them both myself to make sure they work.
How don't they work?
FYI: I'm reuploading them to megaupload as we speak anyways

When I got my phone to update to 2.2.2 it felt amazing.
I just wanted to spread the love
Thank you so much!! You don't know how frustrated I've been all day! The only problem I had was that my root was gone after I flashed it, but I just updated through settings and it worked flawlessly

NP! Just glad you got your update.
I changed the steps so that the last step is simply updating via settings. If that doesn't work for people I will help them out in this thread with the more complicated coding way.
Cheers!
Couldn't step ten be used to revert to stock from an international sbf?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Ok..quick question. You said not to install for those using any international version. I have run the Telstra sbf at one point..as well as had the Greyblur rom on. Before installing the Telstra I had made a backup using CWM, and a few days ago I had to revert to my old backup due to a rogue app. In my About phone, it tells me my System version is Blur_Vision.0.37.4MB860.BellMobility.en.CA with a Build number of OLYA_U4_0.37.4.
Would this be still safe for me to do seeing's how it seems i'm back to my "Bell sbf" or is there still going to be some Telstra files in there that could cause me some problems?
I made it through to the end of step 10 and the phone was looking good. Then when I shut off the phone and tried to go into Android Recovery, it keeps going to the triangle symbol and I have to reboot.
After a couple times of that I decided to check Android Recovery from inside the app list and it said I no longer have root access.
Any ideas what to do now??

Depends on whether or not you're still on the telestra framework. If you're confident with your ability to recover from a potential brick via early usb enumeration id go for it.

Edit: See my lower post first, then this one
Open up the menu in android recovery by tapping both the bottom left corner and bottom right corner of the screen at the same time.
It should show you an error if there was one.
Does the phone boot fine?
You should lose root access. When you flash the .bin it restores your bell to stock like you got it from the store. That allows you to update.
Most importantly open up the recovery menu when you see the triangle by tapping the bottom left and right corners simultaneously. Itll take a few tries.

No, since you are on an international framework it will probably brick your phone.
That .bin file contains the system partitions from the stock bell framework.
If you want to try go ahead but I think the odds are against you

Bdking I have another idea. if you can boot up your phone, re-root it using any normal methods, then install CWM. Boot into CWM recovery mode and clear the cache from there. Then do step 11.
Chances are the update file is hanging out in your cache so when the android recovery sees that it immediately tries to install the messed up package.
Thats why you should clear cache on CWm because it wont try to install anything automatically from the cache. Then do step 11.
Hope it helps, Mag.
No my phone boots fine. And now I can get into android recovery to clear cache and have done so. But before I read your response I rooted my phone again.
Should I just restart everything?

No you should be good to go try to update via settings.
You flashed the bin right?
If so you're good to go
I flashed the bin for sure. But wasn't sure about the process because I rooted again.

Root shouldnt change anything only deodexing/webtop mod/ theming should mess it up.
If you flashed the bin go for it. Worst thing that can happen is that the update fails.
In that case, redo step 10, then do step 11.

So, there is absolutely NO WAY I can get back to the Bell framework from 2.1.1 without an actual Bell sbf?

I pieced this together so I don't take full cred. I know this works because I did it to my phone as I typed it
If this works make sure to post it. Also remember to give thanks. This was not easy to figure out.
problem
what if it says cannot roll back bootloader while espring is updated it says bypassed
It bypasses normally
Why not use ClockWorkMod recovery as update.zip and use that to flash roms and things from there?
Just didn't wanna do it that way
thank you so much for posting this i have been trying to gain root ever since i got my phone which was last year thank you
I cant flash update.zip it keeps saying cant mount sd and when i reboot it says i dont have an sd card i need help im stuck with 2.1 and cant load a rom
not working
Didnt work for me.
superoneclick worked saying i had temporary adb root, then i would run mts rooter and it seems like that when the cmd prompt comes up that it doesnt work.
on the first part it said
"cd: can't cd to /sqlite_stmt_journals"
then after I turn wifi on and the cmd prompt goes again I get:
"./exploid not found" and " secretlol not found"
any help?
one small hiccup
Used these instructions to root a friend's phone last night. There was one deviation we had to deal with:
5. It will look for the ESPRIMG again, after its done you will see the menu. Highlight "Recovery" and press the power button
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
While we could see the menu the phone only gave us the choice to run update (YES) or reboot (NO). Recovery was inaccessible. We ran the update (with the bootloader bypassed) then when asked to reboot we chose (NO) and then could select RECOVERY and follow the steps above.
Yes, we did repeat the UPDATE.ZIP process but this time it did not skip Bootloader. Soon CM7 was up and running.
Hope this helps and thanks for the great instructions.
i need some help my says i dont have sd card when it boots up .Also it wont let me apply the update.zip .it says cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0
cant find /sdcard/update.zip
Ive already reloaded ESPRIMG aboput 15 times im stuck with a useless phone please help
Also my pc wont recognize my phone so i cant use adb or anything

Some sd cards work better than others. Sandisk with a little 4 work great. Try to reformat it with a pc and I think it needs to be Fat32

Your pc is not detecting your phone. Try installing HTC Sync from the Mytouch 3Gs support page. Also make sure to run it as an administrator while being logged in on a admin account
I actually rooted mine while placing the phone in SYNC Mode after removing the sync program and pressing back button on phone to have it stop looking for SYNC...Just remove SYNC program from the computer not the drivers for the phone to be recognized.

I downloaded the htc sync software from htc dot com /us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-3g-slide/downloads/ (xda's settings stop me from submitting a link as this is my first post), I then tried to rerun the SuperOneClick and it failed saying "ADB server is incorrect version" or something similar. I copied the ADB.exe from the HTC Sync app directory into the SuperOneClick, and wham bam it worked. Of course the MT3Rooter failed with the same error, so I repeated the copy and I had root.
Thanks for your help everyone, it is very appreciated by this sorta geek.
PS: As a software geek and a 42 year old jerk, it hurts my heart that XDA has to run such nasty anti-spam settings just to keep crap off this forum. Ends up penalizing the users with good intentions. I totally see why it has to be done, and I support the effort, just is sad that it has to be this way.
how do you achieve s-off though? does downgrading, also downgrade your bootloader?
the goldcard app is not working, the site is down to generate keys.
Insanityrains: I have two stupid questions. Is there something I'm missing here? You don't have consecutive numbers for your instructions. Should I follow them in the order you have posted or in the order of the numbers?
Dumb question 2: Where is the download link for the ESPRIMG.zip file?
Thanks for your instructions! I hope it works for me.
UPDATE
I followed the steps to the letter. It worked seamlessly. Thanks insanityrains for putting all this together and the developer who actually figured this out!! However, few things I had to learn by doing it over and over again:
The first part worked awesome! (i.e. rooting and installing 2.1). It will keep saying there were errors and stuff but keep doing what insanityrains says to do.
The second part (installing CM7 with google apps was the hurdle for me): Follow his numbering in post #1 (once again, I'm refering to the second part) to understand what I'm saying below.
Before you begin, you don't need the ESPRIMG file anymore once you have rooted and installed 2.1 (the first part). So delete that file from the root of your SD card. By doing this, you can skip the annoying wait as it tries to reinstall 2.1 on your phone. Now for the two mistakes I did.
1. The first step was a silly mistake, but very much possible for someone to commit. Just rename the file "update" and dont add ".zip" like I did. Everytime I try installing the ROM it kept saying "cannot locate update.zip". I was scratching my head for a few times before I realized the mistake
2. Step #5. It will search for the ESPRIMG file and it is not going to find that. Select "recovery" then
For noobs, dont freak out while doing it. It was scary for me to root the phone. But once I did it fine, it was fun!
so in order to install roms you have to rename them to update zips?
anybody even here anymore?
theres too many outdated rooting guides on here. i already know i cannot achieve s-off now that we accepted the OTA. i already tried to root and it went fine but the clockwork recovery will not work. also when i boot into the 2.1 rom that i downgraded to i see there is no superuser app but it appears i am rooted because most root apps work minus wireless tether. i just want root and to run a semi stock non cm7 type rooted rom. is this possible with s-on or not?
if so can someone point me in the right direction please?
Worked!!!
Thanks insanityrains. Followed the steps and it worked. I would echo comments re: Menu choice for "Recovery" (see updates with fezmonger and ganjagarn).
Again - thanks!

I thought someone on here said that you could use clockwork mod but you probably have to put it in, i can't help since I rooted my phone with the original method that was much easier.
Have you tried installing rom manager and letting it flash clockworkmod recovery?

[GUIDE] The Beginner's Guide to Rooting Galaxy S3 and installing your first ROM

The Galaxy S3 being my first android (or smartphone for that matter), I had a tough time trying to figure out how to root my phone, which methods to use and which ROM to install. So I've compiled this from other threads here on xda after 2 days of heavy reading, for other noobs like me
FOLLOW THIS GUIDE TO THE LETTER. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, PRESS ANYTHING, CHECK ANY BOXES UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO OR YOU WILL END UP WITH A 600$ BRICK
[/COLOR]Rooting
So what is rooting? Rooting basically gives you administrator privileges on your phone, allowing you to install a host of programs that allow you to, for e.g. use firewalls, remove bloatware, change themes, install improved kernels, install custom roms with improved boot and memory performance, the list is really endless.
ROOTING VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY
However, it IS possible to reverse the process and cover your tracks, should you need to claim warranty. Read on to find out how.
Here is some good prereading to help you understand the basic flashing process and apps involved, even if it was written for the S2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125282
Before we begin, its a good idea to note down the details under Settings -> About Phone, for future reference. Also note that under Status, if you root your phone, it changes to 'Modified'. This is, as stated before, reversible.
This guide is for the GT-I9300 Model. If your model number has a suffix (other than T) this may not work.
Step 1: Flashing CF-Root with Odin
This is an easy method to root your phone and I haven't needed to use any other. It comes with the added benefit of also installing Clockwork Mod and CWManager which we will use to make backups, flash our first ROM and cover our tracks. For those of you who want to install the newer clockworkmod touch look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719744
Guide compiled from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
1. Install Samsung Kies and plug your phone into your PC via USB so that all the appropriate phone drivers are installed
2. Download and extract Odin3-vX.X.zip from the download link below
3. Download and extract CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.zip ONCE (you will end up with CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.tar
CF-Root for SGS3 v6.4:
http://download.chainfire.eu/196/CF-Root/SGS3/CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.zip
4. Disconnect your phone from your computer, close Samsung Kies and any antivirus/firewall that may interrupt the flashing process
5. Run Odin, click PDA and navigate to your CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.tar file
6. Power off your phone and then boot it into download mode (Hold Volume Down + Home + Power button until the screen fires up)
7. Note the warning and continue.
8. Connect the phone to your PC via USB and allow drivers to install.
9. Make sure 'Re-partition' is NOT checked in Odin
10. Click Start button and wait for android to boot
11. If you see a green 'PASS' message in Odin, everything went as intended. Done!
Step 2: Make a NANDroid Backup
This is a precautionary measure that backs up your phone's current state, should you have any problems with custom Roms. It is also a step in reversing the root process, should you need to claim warranty.
1. Power off your phone and boot into recovery mode (Hold Volume Up + Home + Power button untill the screen fires up). This starts up ClockworkMod.
2. Use Volume Up/Down to navigate and the Power button to select
3. Navigate to Backup/Restore->Backup and wait for backup to finish
4. Go back and select 'Reboot System Now'
5. Connect your phone to your computer and copy the backup folder from /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups/
6. Done! Now you can restore this backup by booting into recovery mode and hitting Restore!
Step 3: Installing your first ROM
After hunting for a good ROM that was fast and bloatware free, I ended up with the nightly build of the popular CyanogenMod 9 and I don't intend to go back!! I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever but if you prefer, you could instead install the RC version.
Note: The camera's flash feature cannot and will not work on any version of cyanogenmod until samsung releases source code for their camera.
Here's how to flash the ROM. This is also the basic method of installing any other ROM or kernel, though the ROM/kernel developer would give you more tailored instructions.
1. Download the desired version of CyanogenMod 9 from here:
http://get.cm/?device=i9300
2. Download Gapps from here. I used the 20120429 version. This may not be necessary for other roms.
http://goo.im/gapps
3. Copy both files to your phone's internal sd card
4. Boot into recovery mode
5. Select 'wipe/factory reset' and confirm
6. Select 'wipe cache partition' and confirm
7. Go to Advanced -> wipe dalvik cache and confirm.
Now we're ready to flash the ROM!
8. Select 'install zip from sd card'
9. Select 'install zip from internal sd card and navigate to the cyanogenmod file and confirm
10. When done, use the same method to install the gapps file
11. Do a wipe/factory reset again (needed for google calendar sync to work)
12. Go back and select 'Reboot system now'
13. The boot screen of the new ROM will show up. Wait about 10 seconds, remove the battery and put it back in.
14. Power on and setup your phone. Done!
More on CyanogenMod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714354
Step 4: Installing your modem
With CyanogenMod 9, people report that the first call made doesn't work, but every subsequent call will. If, however, you are still unable to make calls, you may have to install your phone's specific modem driver which you should have noted under Baseband version before we began (under Settings->About Phone).
1. Go here to download your specific modem and copy it to your phone's internal sd card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740061
In my case, it was XXLFB.
2. Boot into Recovery Mode
3. Install .zip from internal sdcard and navigate to your modem.zip file
4. Done!
Step 5: Covering your tracks
So your phone is broken and you need to claim warranty? Not with your rooted phone you don't! The S3 uses a flash counter that tells it how many times the phone has been flashed, and your rooted phone appears as 'modified' under status information. Here's how to cover your tracks.
1. Download your phone's stock firmware for your region from here and copy it to your phone
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3
2. Download TriangleAway from the download link below or consider buying it from googleplay to support the hardworking developers, extract it and copy it to your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
3. Install TriangleAway by opening the .apk your phone's file explorer (Mine's ES File Explorer)
4. Run TriangleAway and select 'Reset Flash Counter'. Your phone will Reboot into a special mode. Reset the flash counter here and pull the battery immediately after reboot.
5. Boot into Recovery Mode and do a factory reset, cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe.
6. Flash the stock Firmware, reboot and setup the phone without any logins.
7. Check that Settings -> About Device -> Status is not 'Modified'
8. Done!
[

Optional: Upgrade to CM10
1. Make a Nandroid backup so you can restore if you dont like cm10/if its too buggy.
2. Download CyanogenMod 10, Gapps and your modem from here and copy it to your internal sd card:
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/device/i9300/developer/daniel.hillenbrand%40codeworkx.de?manifest=http%3A%2F%2Fdeveloper.clockworkmod.com%2Fdeveloper%2Fdaniel.hillenbrand%40codeworkx.de%2Fmanifest&name=codeworkx&deviceName=Samsung%20Galaxy%20S3
3. Boot into Recovery Mode and install cm10 then gapps then modem using 'install zip from sd card -> choose zip from internal sd card'
4. Do a factory reset/wipe then reboot
5. Done!

Awesome guide mate.
I'm too big a wuss to flash a custom rom at the moment but this is pushing me to try it!
good thread man just moved from sgs2 to this and what an improvement! Cheers
I spent an entire day researching heavily before I was comfortable doing this and since everything is compiled here, I'm glad to see it having the same effect on you guys
Triangle Away is a payed app. Offered for free by chainfire on his thread for xda members. He specifically asked not to post it elsewhere. I think you are not permitted to attach it on other thread. At least ask for permission to do it.

I have posted this thread only on xda and like chainfire believe it should be available for free. People won't buy the app unless theyve tried it and know it works. But since you complained I've removed the attachment and people will have to visit chainfire's thread in order to download it.
Thanks for feedback!
Use Clockworks Touch

Can be found here
Updated to include clockwork touch option.
Awesome stuff jbonetwo :good:
Question though? Rooted & installed Cyanogen 9 as above, followed all steps all rebooted and set up phone as if 1st time user. Now I've lost all apps, contacts, messages etc and nothing has synced?
How can I get all contacts back? Not sure why it hasn't synced as I've linked my Gmail account and sync is on?
Please excuse an Android noob....

You will lose your apps when switching to a new rom. One good way to reinstall apps is with titanium backup pro (batch reinstall).
If you had your contacts sync;d with google, syncing with your google account on your new rom should (supposedly) restore your contacts. I didnt have to do this though since i added contacts after installing cm9.
Thank you for the guide, worked first time for me

Tutorial! I Made a Video! On How I Flash...

This is probably in the wrong section and I'm very sorry as I'm new to this forum and posting.
BUT! I've made a video and this tutorial to help others just fine their way around here I guess.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7eqUkueyyw&feature=youtu.be
How I Flashed My Note 4 Back to Stock! And then Root with Magisk and Having Working Mods or Some Minimal Extras!.
Just a tutorial for new people or in general to just felt like a help in need of doing this process.. and haven't seen anyone else post in exact details.
I haven't had any problems after I've done this and i will be posting a follow up video soon. .. But Yeah, I hope this helps everyone. :/
===
So, first off I'd have to say thank you for the support everyone, now let 's get down to business.
Also, please take this to a high acknowledge as this WILL! ERASE!! EVERYTHING!
Off your device, I'm not responsible for your misguided actions.
So, PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! BACKUP! YOUR PHONE!
Let's Start Shall We
==Steps====
(... I'm Using Windows 10 64Bit ...)
1st.) DRIVERS!
Make Sure that you have Installed the Drivers for your Device.
the "SM-N910P" Varient.
What I have installed is "SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones - v1.5.63.0 "
You can find this on the sam-mobile website, or you're own provided sources. Google.
2nd.) BACKUP!
So, we're at the stage where we need to back the phone up.
After you had finished install driver's it's important that you Restart YOUR PC.
Just in case, so that you're able to Connect your Device and View your Files!.
I Typically Connect my phone either Usb 2.0 or 3.0 doesn't matter,
Allow Permissions to Access My DATA and then I just backup my "Internal Storage" by going inside and selecting everything
and then pasting it Onto a "New Folder" On My Desktop.
I Mainly Copy over everything that's listed on my device, except the folders called
.Android and Com.Facebook.Orca Folders.
As that's just a folder just for the app to function or the app data,
which doesn't even consist of anything from your picture or videos. Just app stuffs, rendered as useless.
After wards, I Highly recommend Downloading an app called "Easy Backup & Restore"
AS this app WILL! actually backup your Contacts, SMS and call Logs and even MMS in the text per contact.
All you have to do from there is set a save location, Allow the app to think it's the stock messages app, back it up.
it saves it as an XML File and then afterwards. Your Done, and just tap the button to switch it back to normal.
!!!!You Might need to back this file on your PC ASWELL! or else you will lose your texts in general!!!!
Moving Forward....
3rd.) Triple Checking!
AS a Side "Note" no pun intended.....
THIS WILL VOID ANY WARRENTIES! you have for your device.
Unless you had bought this from Online or Secondhand, like me
From Ebay for 120$ Used. Then You can bypass this part. as this step isn't covered by your
Mobile Insurances plans like "TEP". All they would suggest is to grab another phone or if you're lucky.
Like my old phone an S6, i literally tried flashing the OTA and it wouldn't boot, but that's all they know.
EFS issues..lol.... you know what i mean.
4th.) FLASHING!
Now! that you don't have any warrenties and have backed up your phone for sure, Made sure you remeber all your logins and passwords.
I"d Highly suggest to Safely Remove your SDCARD!, so it won't get formatted by accident, I'd know this.
Afterwards, you will Likely make sure your phone is at least 30% or 50% or Recommended 100% Battery Life to Coninute the process.
Without sudden power loss failure.
Another thing make sure you go into your "Settings" and then Select "About Phone" And then Tap the
"Build Number" Several of times until it says it's activated, Afterwards go Into "Developer Options" and select
"OEM Unlocking" so you won't have that nasty FRP LOCK issue. if that's the case. if it's not there then no need to worry.
AS soon as that's Completed. You're All Set!.
5th.) Let's Flash Baby! ;D
So, for this step you need to download these Files, "Odin" STOCK Image/Tar and Custom Recovery!.
I'm using "Odin3 v3.10".
and Download The Stock Image or in this case ".Tar" file.
I'm using, "N910PVPS4DPJ1_N910PSPT4DPJ1_N910PVPS4DPJ1_HOME.tar" for the day.
and Also Team Win Recovery Project "TWRP" V3.1.1.0 .img or .tar whatever you prefer for this one.
///Note ////
What I usually do but isn't recommended is, when This file is done download from one of your own sources.
I'd Extract the same label file but with ".rar" at the end of it with Winrar
and then GO INTO THE EXTRACTED FOLDER, look for the file and then I'd erase the extension "..md5" and keep
the whole "..tar" extension instead, to "SKIP" File Intergrity, from Odin. Makes flashing easier for me, Haven't had any problems.
///////////
Anyways, you would then Start Up ODIN with ADMIN RIGHTS, then Select the Label "AP".
Afterwards Select that TAR file you just extracted.
Then, Make Sure "Auto-Reboot" Is Selected and "F. Reset Time"... Don't Check the other labels, please.
Unplug Your Phone (if it's still connected and done being backed up and what not)
Restart the Phone into DL MODE or Download Mode,
via Powering Off the Phone or Taking out the Battery, Putting it back in.
Then Pressing Vol Down, Power And Home Buttons! Simultaneously! You Shoud Feel 1 small Vibrate and then let go of those buttons.
You should then see a Continue or Restart Phone text.
You would then select Continue, And then It should Prompt to a new screen saying "Downloading..."
Now at this point you may connect your Device, Your PC should be Installing New Drivers, wait for that to be Done.
And or By Then if it's already installed, Check back with Odin to See if anything's Listed under "ID:COM"
Mine was Com 3, Highlighted Baby Blue.
After you see that, go ahead and say bye bye and select "Start" to Flash your phone back to Stock!... this should take roughly 10 Minutes.
After this is all done and your phone may have rebooted 3 or 4 Times during the process.
6th.) Going through setup!.
You're now prompted with the "Welcome Screen" HOORAY! SUCCESS!! You're Now Back to Stock! but we're not done yet.
Now go ahead and skip this setup by just speeding throught like i always do.
Enabling Wifi of course, unallow data being sent to samsung or google , yada yada, add google account, don't restore apps
I will do that later, yada yada.
Once that's done, it should reboot or not.
What I alway before I commence the next step is to make Sure that I Installed Snapchat 1st and Logged into it.
As this now has ROOT detection, and if it's preinstalled or even just freshly installed you won't be able to login to it.
Unless you went ahead of this then well,
You need to erase the ROOT and try again, you might even need to contact the support team of snapchat because it can
lock your account from this issue *(goodluck)*
This method doesn't matter, as long as your google play services is updated and the play store.
Than you can intsall Snap from the Store or from your SDCARD saved APK File.
Now you're ready to move onto the next step.
7th.) CUSTOM RECOVERY!
Flashing Custom Recovery.
Okay so, after you have successfully logged into Snap, you may now, REBOOT your phone back into "DL MODE" again
So, This Time we're now going to flash your custom recovery.
I've always been using "TWRP v3.1.1.0"
So, what we do next is Open Odin back up again, or if you had it Open already Click the Reset Button,
SELECT the "AP" button again BUT THIS TIME!
Select the TWRP File as I mentioned earlier.
After that's been done, go ahead and Click Start.
Once that's done it should automatically BOOT into Recovery but if not, Go Ahead and as soon as it Reboots.
go ahead and holding the VOL UP HOME AND POWER Simultanesly
Until you feel the 1st Vibrate and then 2nd Vibrate with a Visual of Saying REBOOTING INTO RECOVERY.
Then You've successfully made it into "TWRP".
( Same sequence like DL MODE except, going ahead and holding the VOL UP HOME AND POWER Simultanesly )
Either by Powering Off UI or Battery Pull Method or Auto Reboot from ODIN.. anyways
At this point I inserted my SDCARD back into my phone because it has the necesarry files for this partm you should do the same.
8th.) ROOTING PROCESS!
Now onto the ROOT.
From Here this Is OPTIONAL...
What I do tho is... I Pop in my 16GB SDCARD, size doesn't matter as in space.
Now for this step you need to download another 3 files
As long as you have these 3 Files you're good to go,"Magisk v14.0", "Magisk Manager APK", and "UN7 Modset",
Slap those files onto your SD CARD or Internal Storage or OTG even, the choice is yours.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Actual ROOT Process~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd then reboot My phone into TWRP and then
Allow Flashing in TWRP, then Selecting the "INSTALL" button, and Selecting MY SDCARD as the Storage Location.
I'd then Start by Selecting The, Magisk v14.0 and Flashing that file first, once that's completed go ahead and select.
"Reboot Back To System" and then Selecting "DO Not Install" so you wouldn't have to install TWRP to the System Partition.
Afterwards, it should Reboot, and then Vibrate once, and then Reboot again like a soft reboot,
and then the phone will be back to normal.
( optional battery pull, then holding power button )
I'd then go into the app called "My Files" and then I'd Go into my 16GB SDCARD and Installing the Magisk Manager APK, that's only
if it's not already insatlled... if it isn't do that and if it is.
Then I'd go into the APP to see if it's a Success with installation. Once It is. I'd then Press the tab and Select Magisk hide
then selecting the Snapchat app.
=====================================================================
Afterwards I'd then Reboot back into Recovery.
Flash the "UN7 Modset" for the, Beast mode kernal r61 ZL PJ1 Based by Freeza and then V4A 2.5.0.5 and then the Camera UHQ+ Tweak.
Everything else is up to you for the Boot Animation Changes, and or Dolby Atmos even tho I'm not sure how V4A and dobly will interefere.
Once you have selected those few tweaks, go ahead and let them flash and once that's done, go ahead and let it reboot....
======================================================
AS soon as the phones Back to normal, Check the V4A app to see if it's successfull, and if it is then you have Successfully.
ROOTed your device With a V4A Audio Mod, Camera Tweak and even a Custom Kernel.
LAST STEP!
Is to now go back into TWRP and Flash Magisk, one more time, and then Reboot The Phone Back to Normal.
Have fun with your customizations.
I take no credit for the following flash files, just a tutorial to install all of the above properly.
I hope this helped out you alot today, and as always take care and godbless.
Profit????.....
As a side note....
IF YOU HAVE THE MMC READ FAIL MESSAGE!!!
Which consists of Random Reboots, Heating Issues when theirs hardly no apps on, or even Lag or Glitchyness.
The Temp FiX that I've been using everyday and haven't had these issues since was downloading this app
WakeLock Manager and setting to PARTIAL LOCK! on Level 4.
Anything Higher than 3.10+ will work.
And Making sur that your selecting AUTO REBOOT AND F RESET TIME THATS IT>>>> ONLY USING AP METHOD FOR TAR.
