Mango Beta 2 refresh and external speaker - Venue Pro General

Just had this happen on two Venue Pros with latest firmware and Mango. On each phone, after a while the sound that plays out of the external speaker is cut off. You can hear alerts and ringtones play for a fraction of a second before they are cut off. It will still vibrate. This also affects the speakerphone, which won't play any audio during a call. Games won't have any audio. The earphone speaker works fine.
Originally I thought this was a hardware defect, since others have had faulty speakerphone connections, but after restoring Nodo on both phones, the sound returned but was still spotty on one phone (leads me to point to the FW). Back on Mango, the behavior continues at random times, persisting after a reboot and sometimes working after a reboot.
Toggling the sound sliders on the ringtones + sounds setting page seems to trigger it and sometimes solve it. My theory is that this is a driver issue with the new FW, or the new Mango beta.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Mine did the same thing
My DVP was 8 days old when this happened to me and called dell to get a replacement immediately. I updated to mango and ran it for a long period ogf time before it happened. I may have a defective unit, but it hasnt happened again.

this is a hardware issue. sometimes by just holding the phone it goes away.
if it happens again put pressure on the bottom have of the keyboard or the bottom back and the battery cover.
i find sometime when i turn the handset to the side (to play a game) it does it and when i turn it back its ok again.
also it seems mango can go to a higher sound lever what will make the connection to the speaker have more porblems if you have it high.
ps. also it you pull up or down the slider ( to reveal the keyboard) to fast it can make the connection go out.
ps2. i wish someone would do a teardown of the dvp so i can see how the connect is made.
hope this helps

No sound except for phone

I cannot get any sound out of my MDA-compact...except for the phone.
So I do not get:
-ring-tones
-calender event sounds
-keyboard sound
But I am able to hear someone speak on the phone.
I set all sound on.
Disabled mute
Put all slides on maximum...checked several times if they stayed there.
It worked a week ago, or so.
Since then installed:
-wisbar
-expcal
-Tom-Tom
-Sprite
Tried setting back a backup...but problem persists.
There is 2 ways to mute the Magician if you have wisbar advance installed. Try to quit WA and disable mute. Depending on the skin you use it could be difficult to merge Magician and skin volume sliders.
If you are not success desinstall WA and try again. Then install it again and remember is better to use the volume hard keys instead WA Skin slider.
Good luck!
This may sound stupid, but I had a similar problem and found that something was Stuck in the headphone jack socket. Try it with the headphones. Also, have you installed the new bluetooth stock with A2DP support?
Works with headphones
Thanks admisi....it works with the headphones...but after pluggin in and out it still doesn't work without.
Might this be some registry setting?
Unlikely to be anything in the registry. If all sound working with headphones, then likely that inside headphone jack is stuck. I plugged and unplugged many times until eventually it freed up, only other thing is that the actual wiring to the main speaker has come away!
I do not think is is the headphone jack.
If someone phones me...it doesn't ring (it does through the headphone), but I am able to hear the other person through the normal speaker!
If it would be the headphone jack, I wouldn't be able to use the phone without the headphone.
It must be something with software, unless the phone-speaker function is hardwired different from the rest.
I had exactly the same problem with my magician. i could hear through the phone speaker and use as a phone fine, but the external loudspeaker did not work.
It was a hardware issue, and t-mobile UK simply replaced it for me
unfortunately, this is a well known problem with the magician and the easiest way is just to send it for repair.
Hopefully, your operator will do this free of charge. If you are still within warranty that is!
I hope not...this is already my 3th MDA-compact because of hardware issues.
I had loads of trouble with Tom-Tom because of having to reinstall 3 times already. Furthermore ActiveSync is ****...it doesn't let you install on an identical device with a different IMEI...so no restoring backups. That's why I purchased Sprite...which screwed my MMS database.
And the bluetooth headset seems to have a dead battery after 2 month's.
If I've gotten money for each hour of installation I would have had an additional month's income.
restoring to another device from activesync is simply a case of doing it as a guest the first time.
Cancel the partnership wizard, and then start the restore. it will ask you to select which partnership has the backup you wish to use and then it starts. that should work fine.
as for the MMS database, all backup programs seem to do that. I had it with activesync, Sprite and SPB, just stick with whichever you prefer, but don't restore the mail database when you do a restore. Otherwise you get the problems reported on the forum of having drafts and unread items which do not appear anywhere.
to be honest, if it works fine through the phone speaker, but nothing else, and there is no mute anywhere, it is most likely hardware. Easiest way to double check:
1 - back up using sprite/async/xbackup/whatever
2 - hard reset the device. when it reboots, do you get the bell noise when the 'tap here to set up your device' screen appears
if yes - is a software glitch
if no - your speaker is fecked, return for repair.
like was already said, the wiring for the speaker has come away. I remember reading somewhere that when someone took one of these apart, they found that the speaker is not actually soldered, but clipped to the main board, and the clip breaks easily. That swhat happened with mine anyway, t-mobile report said the speaker had broken off of the mainboard, and because it happened so often they replaced it without question.
I had a similar problem with mine. After using speakers plugged into the headphone socket I got no sound - but still got sound when phoning someone.
I found that there is a problem with the headphone socket so that after plugging something in then removing it, it still thinks it's plugged in. To solve it i started something with sound (I used a track playing in Media Player) then used my stylus to wiggle inside the headphone socket. Hey Presto the sound returned!
Go to Start, Settings, Sounds & Notifications. My systems sounds also disappeared last week when going from one profile to another on phonealarm, and my options was unticked for some unknown reason.
speakers
if none of thier ideas work, ITS A HARDFWARE PROBLEM, ur speakers are busted, the back speaker, happend to me, ended up bringing it to a service center, they replaced the speaker, after 3 hrs went back, gud thing i tested it there coz the speaker was working but it was God awfull, it was still busted, so i told the customer service rep, she rbought it to the technician, she daid come back the next day, i did, it was fixed, audio was flawless, she said they replaced the MAINNOARD, so as i f i got a new unit
Hey team,
I had the exact same problem today and fixed it by putting headphones in and pulling them out quickly once the music played!
Hope it helps!

Possible software speaker problem where they occasionally cut out?

So I'm having an issue with the speakers on my Nexus 7, and it's almost definitely not that same one everyone else is experiencing where volume above 50% gets distorted.
On occasion, after waking my N7, what will happen is that whenever it first plays a sound, whether it's music, video, a notification, or the keyboard typing sound, the speakers will just kind of make a quick scratching/crackling sound and completely give out. However, sound will eventually return completely to normal if I A. just continue to use the tablet for a minute or so, B. turn the display off and on, or C. turn the device off completely then reboot it. Outside of this weird issue, audio is completely fine. The tablet is currently unrooted, running the stock ROM.
Any thoughts? I'm really hesitant to RMA this one (I've RMA'd one before due to random creaking issues) because it's in perfect shape otherwise and don't really want to play the N7 lottery again if it's something that can be fixed either by myself or with a future update.
Anyone?
I have the same problem but no fix for you I also just wait it out a few seconds and it fixes itself...
I had problems where my n7's sound would completely cutout on netflix idk if its the app or speaker :/ ?

Weird Audio Issue

I've been having a weird audio issue with my Nexus 7 and was wondering if anyone else was having it. I search before starting this thread and couldn't find anything similar, which leads me to believe the answer is 'no', but thought I would ask anyway.
So my N7 was one of the first to be released. For a couple months I've had no major issues. A little screen lifting, but not enough to make me send it back. Some issues with the screen (what looks like burn in, but goes away) which has been heavily reported, but again, I can live with it. Both of those issues are well known and common, but this one just started up.
Every so often, when my N7 has been sitting idle and in standby mode for a while and I unlock it, I hear a "click" sound from the speaker. It normally makes that sound, but on occasion it sounds weird and clipped. When this happens, I lose audio. The only way to regain it is to either reboot the device, or manually lower the sound to zero, wait a few seconds, and then raise it up again. The latter method usually works, but once in a while I have to do it multiple times before the audio is restored. When the audio stops, it doesn't matter if it's the built in speakers or headphones - nothing.
This problem seems to only occur right after I wake it up. In other words, if I'm using it actively and I have sound, the sound works fine.
Again, this problem only started occurring about a month or so ago, and is only sporadic. At first, I thought it might have something to do with a new app I downloaded, but I eliminated that variable.
It's not a major problem, but it does get annoying every so often.
My N7 is stock firmware with a custom kernel (Motley) and rooted (obviously) with CWM recovery.
The logs don't indicate any issues. And since the audio comes back with me turning it off/on (usually), it seems more like a software issue.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Also, when the sound is working properly, it sounds great. No static or distortion or anything like that.
I have the same problem, at first i thought it was because of the kernels so i switch kernels from stock to motley then now i am on clemsyn. I do not know whether it is a software or hardware problem because my speakers sound perfectly alright, except the symptoms which you described.
My case is then sometimes when i unlock it, the normal click sound on unlock might be distorted and then for a period of time there will be no sound. The quick way to solve it is to plug in a headphone and then pull it back out, this will get the sound back immediately OR i can just wait for a while and the sound will be back. Again because of the speaker not having any other distortion during normal music playback, this might actually be a software problem, but it seems not many pple have documented this behaviour so hardware problem is also likely.

I think it could be a hardware defect with ours. Since you are the only other person to report the exact same symptoms, it seems to be rare. In my case, it occasionally happens even with the headphones in, so I don't think it's a speaker issue - more likely a sound card problem. If it was software, I think it would be much more commonly reported. Oh well.... Weird that it only started happening about a month or two after I owned it.
juz an update on my nexus 7 audio issue, i recently just flash franco kernel and the audio issue seemed to go away completely. i amnot sure whether its the overclocking or the undervolting that caused the problem but i am glad it is gone. Juz FYI.
I have a similar situation where the sound stops working randomly. It's rare, but maybe once a day. The volume buttons remain high but there is no sound. I have to reboot for the sound to come back. I am on Kaos Droid 3.8 Beta, with the Clemsyn Elite Battery Saving kernel.

Unbalanced speaker volume (top too quiet)

I have had a white Z5 Compact for a week and have now noticed that the bottom speaker is much louder than the top, ruining the stereo effect. I am sure it did not come this way out of the box. I didn't notice until after the recent firmware update (32.0.A.6.152), but cannot know whether this is the cause of the problem. I went through the hassle of factory reset and the phone still has the problem. I haven't subjected the phone to any physical trauma at all and will be returning it.
I've had 4 (seeking a good camera) and the 3 that I tested this on were all like this.
Will almost certainly be "fixed" with custom roms in future.
Dont have this problem on 152
I have it the other way around, top speaker was soft first out of the box and after the update it seems to have fixed itself.
Problem seems to have fixed itself...
Weirdly, the speakers seem to be working fine now. Hope it's not a hardware issue.
Just out of curiosity, have you noticed any change with the different audio settings? Are they all off or do you have any of the DSEE HX, ClearAudio+, or Dynamic normalizer on? It may help to decide if it is hardware or software. One of the Audio settings codecs could be screwing with the volume and stereo effect.
I feel that the issue is software related. When I am on a call and switch it to Audio Output the bottom speaker is far louder than the top. I'm unsure if the top is putting out any sound at all really. But if I play a YouTube video or regular song, the stereo effect is playing equally from both top and bottom speakers. Not to mention talking on the phone normally is obviously through the top speaker and it works.
I did'nt have any of the Sony specific audio settings turned on. I ended up asking for an exchange - don't want to take the risk of it being hardware given it's international no warranty. Someone on another forum suggested perhaps I had gotten the phone wet, as that tends to muffle the speakers, but not the case - I have no intention of testing the waterproofness that Sony has backed away from
Update
I have experienced the problem on my exchange phone, but it is intermittent. Example: listening to Google Music after taking a phone call. I suspect it's software related - a sort of "mode" bug, where the phone was in one mode and is passing from another. Similar to how auto-brightness sometimes makes black colors look washed out when waking the phone.
Annoying but I like the phone enough that I'm keeping it. I just feel that if you like a compact phone (under 5" screen) - Sony's the only Android game in town.
I have a white international with the opposite. I watch YouTube with the phone at an angle to make it sound anything like it should..

Another Bluetooth issue thread.

Poor Audio over Bluetooth, Poor overall BT reception.
I thought it was my device and sent it back to google, they sent me a replacement and it has the same issue, if im streaming music to any device (Headphones, Speaker, Car Stereo) and cover the top of my phone its like im almost going out of range and the audio goes choppy or off, remove my hand and the audio returns to normal. Google said they have never heard of this issue before and are convinced a third device will solve the issue, i doubt it unless they have a revision 2 model.
Its not just audio, i have a watch that gets notification on the go, same thing, if the top gets covered my watch often says disconnected, take the phone out and within 20 seconds it reconnects.
Clearly there is an issue with BT on this phone, no software update (inc. N preview) addresses it, google seems unaware or uninterested in the problem, i would have addressed it a long time ago but i have been holding out for a fix before i realised how easy it is to replicate the problem.
I also have issue with it. I pair my headphones Phillips Tapster and all I hear is non-stop choppy sound(every few seconds a spike). In the beginning I thought my headphones were giving problems, but it is not the case, becase I have a few other Androids and all work fine. So it is the 6P.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a solution which I can share. I only can share what won't work in my experience:
- Factory reset(wipe);
- Return to stock if custom ROM is used;
- Changing ROMs;
- Killing all other apps except the one which uses the device currently;
- Switching off other communication services like wi-fi;

I can confirm this.
I get this as well. I can't put the phone in my pocket if I use Bluetooth headphones. I've tried different headphones, both factory M and N preview.
Mines not that bad. It used to stutter every minute or so but I turned off Bluetooth/WiFi scanning and fixed that problem. But now it just decided to start getting all staticy when the screen is turned on. Either by me text or phone calls. Haven't figured out why it's only happening at that time

What happens when you cover the top of your phone with your hands, does the audio start cutting out?

nothing happens at all. no change in sounds, no stuttering in play.
I did another FDR the other day. got everything installed again turned off wifi/bluetooth scanning and wifi itself (since im not at home) and works perfect. no skipping or stuttering at all. even the 5 seconds of stutter is gone when the screen turns on. hopefully it stays this way

I have the same problem on my car sound system (mazda 2 2016). I found a solution. I turn on the N6P bluetooth before turning on the car system (in my car it turns on when I turn on the car at the same time). When I have the N6P's bluetooth on before turning on the car I have a good conection at 100% of the times. When I forget to turn on the N6P's bluetooth before turning on the car I have a bad conection at 50% of the times.
I hope this could work on your sound systems.

I have tried 3 replacement phones and each time I speak with Google they inform me that they are not aware of any BT issue. Bull****! I can't wait to get rid of this phone. I have the same issues you have related to BT.

Thanks but i rarely turn off BT, its always available but i did go and try combinations of having it off or on pre connection and no difference, still my phone acts like the BT signal is too weak if i move around.

Thanks for confirming, im not holding any hope on the 3rd replacement either, I have had a lot of nexus devices over the years and this BT issue is unique and driving me nuts and really making me think twice about the new upcoming replacement in Q4, especially if its made by Huawei. Ive also noticed the chassis has started to buckle near the volume buttons.
well for some unknown reason the stutter when screen comes on came back. worked fine on bluetooth all weekend. then this morning i go to use my LG 850 BT headphones...and bam...stuttering. maybe LG pissed off Hauwei and they decided to cause issues with all LG items hahahaha

Apparently all CM based ROMs has the stutter issue when screen is turned on when streaming, something to do with the AudioFX, im back on AOSP ROM, no issue with screen on but still have issue when covering the top of my phone or putting in my pocket. sux.
