SMS issues - EVO Shift 4G General

At 530 today my sms went out, I couldn't take in any sms messages I got all of them later around 9:40. I'm running Mik-G 1.3, clean flash, wiped everything (including /system) 3 times. Was having problems before on Mik-G 1.2. Any help? Is it SPrint or my phone?

It's Sprint . Network BS. You do mean MikShifted G right? BTW V1.3 is out http://themikmik.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=21688#p21688

looks like Sprint is addressing the SMS/MMS issues that a lot of Shift owners are experiencing...

I recently updated my ROM to 3.14 and now my visual voicemail isn't working. Any ideas? It says it can't connect, try again later...
still investigating....
no work for me either and facebook won't refresh either...
Edit... forget it... facebook app still no refresh
I'm having the same problem, spent about an hour with their PDA department and was told it was being escalated and I should hear something within the next 3 days.....

Quick update, according to T-Mobile the issue has been logged as of the 30th of October as a nationwide issue and "they are working on the problem." Personally, I love the form of the HD2 and there are things about Winmo that I really like but I have had a number of issues with the phone and software to the point where I'm going to look at the new My touch 4G and go back to Android exclusively. Its not the Desire HD I was hoping T-Mobile was going to bring but it should keep me satisfied for 6 months or so.

Where have my SMS gone?

Hi all,
My SMS messages have just 'gone'! I had quite a few in there and I didnt restart the phone or anything strange, went back in to reply to one I recevied earlier and there is nothing in there!!
Happened to anyone? Have they really gone or can I get them back somehow. I have a backup, but its from a while back...
Anyone?
Thanks...
This forum should have a sticky thread for this... Just do a quick search and you'll find the relevant info. Short answer: it affects all Android phones and there is no fix, backup your SMS messages for an inevitable restore.

yep, mine just vanished this afternoon. All gone, completely.

Thanks for answer, although if I had someone to moan to i'd have to quote my favourite 'This is not satisfactory!'
They (Android) can't just allow SMS's to dissappear! They must be going somewhere!!
Someone must know somethign about this by now?...
What's happening is there's a glitch in the sms app which can cause the messages database to become corrupt, rather than try to repair the database, Android, just deletes it.

I've never had this with any of the five Android phones I've owned using the default SMS app. I did once try Handcent on the Hero and all my messages disappeared after deleting a thread but after uninstalling and rebooting they came back.
Were you using the default sms app?
I also recommend Sprite Backup which can back up whatever you need daily either to SD Card or cloud storage provider (I use Dropbox).
just happened to me twice this month after being problem free ever since i bought it in December 2010. At 1st i thought it was because I had too many smses. About 5000. Then the 2nd time it happened...just now..only a few hundred messages. It sucks that there is no fix!
Are you using a 3rd party SMS app (downloaded app)?
Are you using htcsense.com? <-- Known Issue, see sticky.
Please search before you make a new thread.
Try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840582
It's a bug in Froyo, i used to keep having all my messages randomly disappear.
The solution is either keep daily backups using an app like "SMS Backup & Restore" or upgrade to Gingerbread

Valid point but...
And actually I don't believe this is a Froyo bug. If it was a generic issue with Froyo then there'd be a lot more and as I pointed out in that thread, 3rd party apps were used. The htcsense.com sync was also shown to be buggy - HTC themselves admit it's a work in progress.

Unfortunately there are a handful of instances where this is the case. I still don't believe it's a Froyo bug, more just occasional glitches in some handsets.
I really don't mean any disrespect and I'm sorry you're having this issue. Hopefully GB will fix it for you (because the "glitch" will be over-written, just as re-flashing a Froyo stock RUU would probably do to *back peddles quickly*).
[EDIT] Just saw you're other post; Seems GB did fix it.

No worries. There probably is more than one thing that's causing it, i was just saying for me it was just a bug in Froyo.
& yeah Gingerbread fixed it and all the other problems i was having

This topic was started in January, it's not new, just been revived by someone.
I had my SMS messages wipe twice last weekend alone! I use a backup tool now thank-god, which stores my messages in GMail. Dead easy to restore.
Just upgraded to 2.3 also yesterday, will see if this helps.

[Q] Do you have DL30, no ROMs, and your large SMS texts work to nonVerizon customers?

I am having an issue where a really long text is not being sent out to any nonVerizon customer. Verizon buddies receive the text in multiple parts as normal.
I am trying to determine if this is DL30's issue or my ROM's issue.
Please test and let me know if it works or does not work for you and what you have on your phone.
Thanks!
I had the same problem. I use ChompSMS and it has a setting that will split your texts so they send.

I've been having the same problem as well, might be due to the lack of a proper DL30 radio.
I'm running SC v1 at the moment but I was having the same issue on Rubiks 0.3

Yep, that confirms it. Its just a busted Froyo release. Its obvious this build wasn't finished or intended for use.
Guess I'll just work around it until the legitimate release comes OTA. Then I'll get the superclean version of that.
I've had this issue with VZW for... like 2 or 3 years now

So busted! I've had a total of zero FC's over my 72 hours with it. I can't stand all the annoying tendencies that this busted ROM seems to cause. I'm so pissed I spent that 15 minutes flashing it to my phone. It's practically bricked now!

I haven't. Until I updated to a DL30 based software it worked perfectly.... gps still was hosed, but everything else was fine.
Now I still have a busted GPS, unable to send large texts to a 1/2 my buddies, however, phone is running faster with better look/feel.
Same problem...large text are being recieved by friends as garbage....unreadable...on all dl30 roms using dl09 radio....

hmm, i thought it breaks them up going to non vzw customers too.. there is a setting in handcent where you can turn that on or off "Split 160."

Yes, normal sized SMS messages go through fine.
Just tested this and I also have the same issue if the text is quite longer... more than 160 characters...but I'm not sure exactly where.
Wonder how many gibberish texts Ive sent out
Edit: by more than 160 characters I meant the limit for me is higher than 160 possibly double that IDK where exactly....not that it happens at 160 and above...

Yes.
Texts less than 160 work fine to anyone. Texts >160 work fine to Verizon customers. MMS texts work fine to anyone.
Just texts >160 fail to nonVerizon.
I'm sure when the OTA for Verizon comes it will fix this as it will be finalized with its own radio. Just have to wait for it to arrive and for it to be super cleaned.
EDIt: I'm saying "160" because I think that is the cutoff for normal SMS.
For now I will just run the separate app for keep texts shorter now that I know.
Every text after i send a long to that person is garbage.....even after reboot ....i have to reload rom to fix.

damn mytouch

So my messages app force closed on me and refused to open again so I restarted. Then when im booted up all my message history is gone, wtf.
Its hard to say what has happened without some extra information. Such as what rom are your running. What kernel. Are you rooted?
That has never happen to me.
How much text messages did you have saved? it's a good idea to back them up and delete them so it doesn't crash.
rooted, stock rom and kernal, although i have tried other roms but restored after liking the stock feel so much
This happened to my wifes mytouch the other day. She is stock unrooted. Had to reset her messaging app and delete all her text. Seems to work now but it was weird.
i don't think it was an overflow of messages
I had about 3000 messages stored, maybe more before i finally deleted them all
I'm guessing perhaps you had too many apps open without actually closing them, and maybe GPS enabled? Then it ran out of memory to use for programs and crashes or something I don't know
But unless you had more messages stored than me, it wouldn't be that
I now enable "replace old messages" at 200 so I don't have an overflow problem anymore
Do you ever restart your mt4g? I reset mine about once a week just incase there's any memory leaks or something
That happened to me a few times on one of my mytouches while using iced glacier. It would FC everytime I opened up the message app. What I did to read the messages was download SMS go app from the market and I was able to read and save some SMS before cleaning up the stock SMS app and then it worked fine.

It's a known bug with stock rom. I read about it on the tmo website because the same thing happened to my wife's phone. The cause seems to be random and there is no known fix. It was first reported months ago. It has nothing to do with auto delete or having too many message threads.

Oh well, just gotta restore sms from few months ago then...and a good opportunity to try my hand on new roms

sleepy-- just cause you may not want to keep texts, doesnt mean others are the same. and this is my wife's stock glacier- she never thought that a 500$ phone would need a "backup set" a mere few months into use. I guess she uses it as a diary of sorts. when did something happen. what was that exchange i had with xyz 4 months ago. etc.
Anyway, looks like a known bug in stock. I'm on royalginger 1.6 on mine and with ext4, hasnt happened and probably wont. another benefit of rooting.

Any stock users avoiding 2.3 update because of bugs?

Just wondering, I love the reports of a better battery life but all the other bugs would just get the best of me.

Well after reading the community forums at sprint.com and android forums, Ive seen people getting different results/bugs such as:
-Netflix stopped working(posted on this forum)
-Other Misc applications not functioning
-Shortcut icons appearing default with no detail
-Voicemail notification continuously appearing with no voicemails
-GPS Icon appearing even when the GPS is turned off
-Text messages taking longer to send
-Calls not connecting
Im sure there is more but these are the ones that caught my eye.
So thats why I was waiting to make sure there isnt another update to fix some of these issues.
Not having Netflix after getting a taste sucks the most
I can say that my gps icon is on and it shows off on the top. Text messages show a number when there are none. Great I updated and now I cant root.
I waiting until the bugs are fixed,

+1 (Except that part about root, since there are already rooted OTA's)
Or until Synergy is finally released.
O wow, actually just replaced my evo through sprint. they sent me a brand new one, in an envelope(no accesories) thank god I have been living with a buggy refurb for almost a year.
Only problem is it is preloaded with 2.3!?!?!? the sprint rep said it was funny also 2 other customers received brand new ones, thats unheard of from sprint IMO
maybe they want to make everyone on 2.3 because so many using the wifi hotspots...idk
so I would have redone the universal root method like I did before hand, but read here first ......so no go on universal root?

It's called "gaining knowledge, keeping informed, and keeping the options open". Some people, do not necessarily wish to modify every device they use, at every single opportunity. Since discovering XDA, I have had 6 or 7 different devices, and though I have not flashed a custom ROM to each one of them, I've done a couple. Flashing or not, this entire forum has helped me in some form with each device.

I was running Mik 1.3 for a few days and upgraded to 1.4 yesterday. From the above, only two apply on this rom: The Netflix & the GPS icon. The GPS works, but in my case, it appears as off whether I have it on or off. The NetFlix problem is an issue that NetFlix is working on and not a "bug" of GB. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that somewhere on here when the problem first came up.
Having 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1 grealy outweight those two bugs for me. Out of all the 2.3.3 roms I've tried, this one has been my favorite by a long shot. You just have to set up the phone properly. It took me a good couple of hours to format the SD card and upgrade the ext3, transfer all the files back and forth from the SD card, restoring all my apps and reorganizing my phone, etc.
Well worth it, IMO.
The only issue I have noticed is my Exchange inbox icon sometimes shows that I have a new/unread email when I don't. Besides that, everything is working faster and smoother. The battery life improvement is by far the most dramatic change, imo. One more thing that I personally like is the message received notification toggle is now the first option under message settings...def makes shutting off the notifications faster, which is good when you need to hide new texts from the gf
