I think ive bricked my phone - Galaxy S II General

i rooted my phone today which worked out fine, i went on to install a custom rom which is my first time i read several guides, etc before trying to install Darkys rom which i wasent sure if it was compatable anyway after trying to flash it using odin through download mode it i closed my odin beacause it was not working my phone was still in download mode so i turned it off by holding the power button and when i tried to reboot it nothing comes up at all is it dead or is there something i can do any help apperciated i have a Uk version of the phone , thanks

Remove the battery for about 1-2mins then power it on again.

You weren't sure if something was compatible, yet you flashed it anyway? Sounds like a bad move.
Try holding the power button down by itself for ~10 seconds. If nothing, then try EarlZ's suggestion. If still nothing, then plug it into a power source for a few minutes, then repeat the process.
What do you mean that Odin "wasn't working"? More information required.

Yeah i feel like kind of a fool now but i left the battery out for a while a but still nothing, but it seems to get quite hot ill plug it into a powersource for a little and see what happens and when i pressed the start button in odin nothing happened at all ,the phone was connected

still nothing but it is getting somewhat hot which is a bit of hope that it isnt completly dead it is hot at the top of the phone (not where the battery is)

Did you put the phone in debug mode before trying to flash.
What happens if you press "power+voldown+home. Can you get in to debug mode? If not you gona have to need the jig.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156348 There is also a link there to make it yourself.

Regarding odin..when you exit odin does the process end-ie does task manager show its no longer running?

That's download mode. It's for flashing using Odin. You're perfectly safe pulling your battery and rebooting since you're not actually flashing anything.
You can also press the + volume button and power for a few seconds instead of pulling the battery.

Unplug the USB
When this happened to me, I powered off with Vol+ and the power button.
I unplugged from USB and powered on again with Vol+ and Vol- and power button, then I got to the recovery prompt.
Maybe USB cable in triggers download mode?

This is why in just about every phone forum on this site has a sticky that says very cleary to READ FIRST. When doing stuff like this to your phone or somebody else's phone for them it is important to know what you're doing. You can brick your phone very very easily if you don't know what you're doing. So do some more research, because you didn't even know what download mode was, which if you plan on trying out a bunch of different roms you'll be using it a lot.

Download mode is very powerful and dangerous. To use this mode you need to be plugged into a computer with drivers installed and an application called odin running. You can just pull the battery out of your phone and turn it back on. You'll be fine.

I was cleaning up my phone with Root Explorer and was trying to get rid of the clutter that was in the App section. Now my phone is stuck in a constant loop of restarts. The only way to power it off is pull the battery. Any ideas on how to fix this? Please let me know what information you need.
you need to boot into Download mode, open up ODIN and flash back to stock. you made a big mistake deleting that

No its diffrent, have your phone off, connect it to your computer, pressdown volume down and power, as soon as you see a black screen let go of the power button not the volume down. Or when your phone restarts if you can see the t-mobile screen showing its powering down do this, connect the usb as soon as you the tmobile logo then after the battery charing screen shows up press volume up and down and power. Once you see the black screen let go. It may take a few tries but it works.

Well now my phone is stuck at the "Phone + ! + PC" screen. I've pulled the battery, held every button combination possible, plugged and unplugged my phone while doing so and nothing works. I'm thinking I'm going to have to bring it to a T-Mobile store and exchange it.

They will probably tell you your warranty is now void, especially if you mention you deleted the settings.apk. Even if you don't, someone at the store will likely know you did something you shouldn't of and will want to send it out.
You should be able to get into downloader/bootloader mode and reflash the stock rom using the instructions on the last page still though. I find it weird that you can't, but I'm not going to try that out on my phone just to test it.
LESSON TO ALL: If you do not know what you are doing, do not go around deleting system .apk files. Deleting the settings.apk file is like deleted the windows folder on a windows machine.
You shouldn't take it back to the store. You should really just get on a 32bit system and flash a stock ROM in Odin.
Have you verified that you're getting into download mode correctly?

that is very easy to fix, just unplug the usb and re plug and hold the two volume buttons and then power and when it turns black leet go of power. This SHOULD work because i had that message too and this fixed it.,

I have had this issue since the first use of Odin. I believe my answer is the proper one but am open to correction. You have to go back to download mode and odin yourself to recovery. I have had inconsistent successes with Odin. . .sometimes for no apparent reason the fifth or sixth time works.
Each non-success renders my phone in the state you described unless I go straight into DL mode. I have never rebooted my computer to make this work, or moved my usb, or anything. Just persistence. This is just my personal experience and I am in no way a master of all things android, odin, pits, or anything. Just a tinkerer.

[Q] Flip phone to computer icon. help please?

hello,
attempting to root my stock gingerbread i think i forgot to choose the pit file. well now i can barely get into the stock recovery program and when i choose factory reset it does it but when rebooting i still get this icon. so i cant get into download mode at all. ive left the battery out for a while as well. how can i get back into download mode? thanks.
Odin did not complete properly so you have no system to reset. Hook your phone up to the computer with the battery and sd card out. Press and hold the "1" key on the physical keyboard then add pressing and holding the power button. Odin away. Pop the battery in when it tries to reboot.
when starting off rooting ive had this problem many times. It usually has to do with screwing up odin. The first thing i want you to do then, is learn how to use heimdall, you have a much better chance of soft bricking your phone. I use it myself and never have had a problem.
To recover your phone there are a couple of solutions. There used to be a thread about this rest button near the camera lens. It is just below it to the left. This should get you into download mode. you will want to press it while your phone is off and battery is in. You will need a paper clip to do this.
Also you are going to want to leave your microsd card, so that it is not affecting the process in any way. Also double check that your phone drivers are correct.
Lastly sometime just waiting with the sdcard and battery out will help, as there is some sort of cache or somethign that must be cleared. I dont know if this true its just what I heard.
Also I dont know why I do this, but sometimes if you hold a key down before inserting the battery for about 30 sec, 1 key is usually the best cause you need it for download mode, and then inserting the battery and hit power, it might get you out of the soft brick.
I hope I help, its been a while since i've seen it, thank god.

Help, My LG G2 is a mess!

HI
So i was trying to restore my LG G2 D803 phone and I accidentally unplugged it when I was doing the LG Tools process, I turned off my phone so I can reset it but now it doesn't work anymore. So now my phone can't use Firmware Update, and every time I tried to escape it, by hold the power button or anything, it goes back to Firmware Update where its now at 0%. What do I do now?
EDIT: I think the problem i'm facing right now. Is that it keeps going into a glitch download mode when I turn my phone on, and I can't access download mode properly or factory reset, due to going back to the glitched download mode. I tried to flash it properly, letting it drain battery on itself, and turning it off FULLY & turning it back on, where all these methods would just lead back to the glitched download mode.

Can you elaborate more when you say it doesn't work?
After you hit flash on the software, don't do anything for like 25mins. It may show you error messages on computer, that it failed or whatever, pop up windows, don't click on anything just let it stay like that. The progress bar can also be stuck on the phone, not a problem. Give it that 25 mins.

It didn't show any progress on the phone, and also said an error on not working. And there would be no change in the download screen, like it would say that nothing is downloading from the USB port it is in and etc.

You must turn it off completely before booting in download mode. Keep pressing and holding volume down+power for a minute, it should completely turn off after one or two LG logo. If it doesn't then you can unplug battery. After that you don't boot with power button, then you boot with download mode method.
Video from complete shutdown - putting USB in computer while pressing volume up button and starting download mode - software recognizing your device - checking all the correct options in software - hitting flash button - state of phone after flash started.

No you shouldn't, rather I am sorry, made a bad judgement call. I left room for confusion in my post. Should've said unplug and plug back the battery. Perhaps you thought if i meant to leave it unplugged.
As your main problem was to stop it from bootlooping into a glitched download, it can be done with holding power and volume down for a minute or two.
But since that didn't work for you i suspected button/hardware failure and so recommended to reconnect the battery.
Another way can be, to let it be as is, so that the battery drains itself and after that charging it with a wall adapter. And see if it stops booting into download itself, or displays a charging only screen.
Anyhow, I hope you find a way out. Feel free to ask anything again.

Nah its ok, that happens to me too sometimes.
So I was going to try to unplug my battery and reconnect it but then but before I was, i was testing some other stuff with the button commands stuff (I mean like the download mode with pressing power and volume up adn stuff) and I think i was able to get the actualy download mode, not the glitched one. I was able to download a bit for the flash tool so what i'm testing rn is to see if I can do the full factory reset and see if that fixes it.
PS: I was already doing the flashtool before so its fine if I erase my data

Sounds like a bootloop, i once fixed it by using another usb port and usb cable. Sometimes they get disconnected for bad connection and cause this kinda error. If MD5 is available, please match yours with original after downloading files. You can keep flashing, maybe try a different kdz later. There is also a TOT method which i never tried myself. This phone is almost impossible to brick permanently.

So I been trying to re flashing my phone using the TOT method because the kda method isn't working, but either 1) it keeps crashing when its downloading 2) cannot recognize the phone to my computer when my phone is in download mode but says its not connected to my computer. Before, it did kinda work, it kept crashing but it lasted a bit longer sometimes, but I had to reflash it because the software update was glitched where it says its on the notification bar but wasnt there. So for rn, i'm still trying to reflash it.
I donno much about the TOT method, haven't tried myself. Getting a hunch that there might be hardware issues somewhere which is interrupting the process and not letting it finish, could be the cable, pc usb outlet, phone's micro usb port....perhaps a loose connection or something else.
If i were you i would stick to the kdz, as it's working somewhat better for you and they all serve same purpose in the end. That youtube video is actually a good step by step tutorial.
