[Q] 2.3.4 Gingerbread Tethering??? - Atrix 4G General

Hey guys. I am not sure if anyone posted this yet but when we were on 2.2.2 we were able to use our mobile hotspot and tether with the settings in the mobiletechvideo on youtube.
Obviously it stopped working after I flashed KENNPENN 2.3.4 gingerbread on there. I did however flash the rooted tethering app on there and it did work but only for wireless N frequency. Any ideas or news on this yet? I need it to be broadcasting on G frequency.
If anyone could help that would be great!
Sorry if this thread is repetitive and I hope the admins move it or something.
Again any feedback would be great. I just need it to tether on wireless G frequency and not N.

Worked for me following this tutorial from the dev section...you'll have to use root explorer and sql editor.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160452

wireless G?
does it turn your phone to a hotspot that transmit or whatever you want to call it wireless G frequency?

The wifi on the Atrix is a/b/g/n, so it could even do n. The bottleneck is going to be your HSPA+ speed for tethering though, so whether it's g or n won't make any difference.

yea I know its B/G/N but the thread that was linked here I can change the frequency? because the tethering app I am using now only allows me to do N.
I need it to do G thats my main concern and I cant get it to do that.

[Q] wifi tether and [Kernel] [GPL] Sense 2.6.32.21 OC/UV 1.51GHZ (CFS-Smartass-TUN)

Does this Kernel kernel supports netfilter (iptables)?
Since I installed this Kernel my wifi tether stopped working. I went into the app market site and the developer makes this statement...
"This application requires a "rooted"-device and a (custom-) kernel which supports netfilter (iptables)!"
So does this kernel supports netfilter? If not maybe that is the reason some of us are having difficulties with the wifi app.
One way to know is to flash back the stock kernel but I have not been able to find it and I dont want to go back to my backup after all the work I have done to my phone.
advice and links are welcome.
All our kernels do. Stock and oc'ed

Has anyone had the chance to do testing with a 4G connection + wireless tether?
I have only been able to pull about 500K to devices connected to my phone, while my phone will get a good 5meg. Is this because the app was developed with 3G in mind and has some barrier there? Just wanted to see if anyone else sees what I am seeing.

There's a post by l2icky in the general section with them having no problem using 4g

4G + wifi tether = No Problem
Not a problem. They installed a 4G repeater on my building at work, so I am actually streaming Pandora, doing texts and Google chats, and broadcasting the signal to the 5 laptops in the store... everything is groovy.
Well I can't get tether to give me internet access on 3g but 4g is no problem....and well same issue with my GF OG EVO....but I can connect to the Sprint HotSpot app that is hacked no problem either....
I will be glad when a dev manages to port the evo hack over....

Wi/Fi Tether From Droid X --> Xoom Wi/Fi

My Droid X is rooted and I regularly use Wireless Tether for Root app. I purposely bought the Xoom Wi/fi instead of the 3g for this wonderful advantage. I've review steps for the Xoom 3G tether, but I'm thinking this is a little different for the Wi/Fi model. When i am tethering from my Droid X, my Xoom does not recognize my network? Dont know if anyone has had some success on this yet.
Forgot to add, my xoom is unlocked and rooted as well.
Make sure you are using Infrastructure mode on the Droid X.
EDIT: I can't seem to find that option at the moment...
Well i couldnt figure it out using the Wireless Tether for Root app, but it worked flawlessly using the 3G Hotspot app by verizon, using Team Blackhat's hack.
I don't know how it is on the Droid X, but my Wi-Fi Xoom tethers to my Captivate just fine.
miui on evo 4g tether works fine. set up my first boot in the parking lot with it.
I use the stock tethering app on MT4G and GS4G and it works great. When i try wifi tether i cant see the network either. I had this same problem on my ZuneHD.
Using an Eris right now and I'm having no luck with bluetooth or normal tether. Eris is rooted, Xoom WiFi model is not.
EDIT: Just found out that the Eris uses Ad-Hoc for tethering not AP. Looks like I may be screwed.
Just a followup, I setup the Wireless Tether for Root on my Droid X and my xoom connects to it no problem.
Ive been able to connect to both TBH hotspot hack and wireless tether with no issues.

Download Fission ROM Manager, install Fission ROM for DX, install tether patch and 3G Hotspot app. Tethering to Xoom should work...
Tether patch will modify NVRAM on DX and the 3G Hotspot is just a modified Verizon Hotspot app. Get all the tethering you want without having a tethering package
Fwiw : my Dinc running CM7 teathers fine with my Wifi Xoom just using the native teather feature. No downloads or setup required.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
My N1 tethers to my Xoom just peachy, no root or anything needed.
It appears that AdHoc mode on Droid X and Samsung Epic work fine with the Xoom? Maybe im nuts, but I thought Android wouldn't connect to ad hoc....im probably nuts.
I'm having no luck tethering my recently purchased wifi xoom. I am using a mytouch 3g with all variants of wireless tether.... i know my tether works because my rooted nook with CM7 can see it and LOGIN with no problems. I added the wpa variant that helped my nook see ad hoc wireless.
Please if someone has a solution i will be externally grateful.
Yeah my xoom wasn't reading my phones tether since its adhoc(Using WirelessTether from market), on their website they have a new thing called "wifi tether" and it works perfectly.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
"WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.0-pre12 *** EXPERIMENTAL ***"
Then in setup method change it from adhoc to softap, so far so good..

Thanks but unfortunately my phone (mytouch magic) doesn't give me that option. I tried nexus one device and selected softap, but still no good.
Looks like I need to somehow tweak my wifi xoom to recognize ad hoc wireless router. I have just 6 months till my phone contract ends, but that's too long to wait.... if this doesn't work i may have to return my xoom
Anyone know how to unlock the ad hoc wireless on the zoom?

Has ANYONE found out ANYTHING about tethering w/ the ERIS? I can connect via bluetooth BUT then my Eris reboots and I lose the connection.
This is the only issue that probably will have me returning if I can't connect to internet on my phone when I'm away from wifi.

Sounds like we need to tweak the wpa file in system>app to make it accept ad hoc.
I have Samsung Captivate with mobile AP enabled. However i am not able to get good tethering speed on my xoom. I ran a speedtest on the captivate which has HSUPA enabled and i get 1.5MB download speed and 2MB upload but my xoom barely gets 100KB download. Any ideas?

That's interesting, i tested HTC DHD stock hotspot app yesterday with my laptop (i don't have a Xoom yet). If i run a speed test on my phone, i get about 4,5mbit download speed but if i do a speed test on my laptop i only get about 2mbit. Why is that?

Got Wireless tethering to work But....

Ok so I got wireless tethering to work form my rooted Epic 4g to my galaxy tab 10.1 and its pretty cool. I did it with wireless tethering version 3. The only thing is that at first i couldn't get it to work because of the authentication once I turn off the encryption on my Epic it worked perfectly and connected right away. But what I don't get is why it doesn't work with the password if anyone can give me some advise why this is happening it would be cool, Thanks.
Strange, I tether all the time without issue. Should be possible. Are you using an app or built-in settings for tethering.
I got the app version (V3 is the only one that works) . I mean it works,..just not with the password on.
I use wifi tethering with my samsung galaxy phone with tmobile. you should try changing setting in build in tethering app and see if this works. I use 'quick settings' free app from market for quick access to wifi hotspot settings.
I have this problem too, it tethers fine but whenever it comes to things requiring password (like email logins) it rejects the password.
can any one who doesnt have this problem share which software they use for tethering?
how did you get tethering to work? i have tried the wpa_supplicant hack but the wifi drops every 10 seconds. what rom are you running & what supplicant file did you use?
It only works right with wireless tethering app version 3. Apparently if you have the rom that has it built in you shouldnt have any problems.
This is what i used http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
I use bluetooth tethering fron my Win Mobile Treo Pro running wmwifirouter. I got tired of trying to root and do the wpa supplicant thing. Android needs to support adhoc wifi out the box across the board. So ridiculous really by now.
Still Cannot Tether
Ok...so Im still on an older phone ( Droid Eris ) but it's rooted running Gingerbread and the wireless tether v.2.07 works great with my laptop but wont work at all with the Galaxy Tab? I really don't understand this. I have tried everything from leaving it completely open to setting up all the appropriate authentication and access control. I tried the link in the thread for 3.0 and even select the Desire..which I think is the basis of the rom I am on...and just got errors in the log.
Anyone else having these issues? Not sure why it works fine on the laptop but not the tablet?
thanks
I am running v 2.0.7 on a myTouch. When I wireless tether with access control on I can check Gmail, but browser will not get websites. If I turn off AC, then browser works OK.

I think that 2.07 is ad-hoc only and honeycomb doesn't support ad-hoc. (someone correct me if I'm wrong). There are a few threads around here somewhere where you can replace/edit a file that allows ad-hoc support. As to your other question, I use Wifi tether-pre11 and it works without issue. I'll link it to you. Make sure you change "device profile" under settings in the app to correspond with your device. I had troubles with the app until I set the device profile to my device. Depending upon your luck, you may have to try a few different pre-release files on wifi tether 3.0 to find the right one. Like I said, pre11 works great for my Epic, but your device may be different. Just don't use the top one (test2) as I recall seeing that its meant for Samsung devices.

Can you post those APK's or the instruction please, I have an Epic as well.
I use wifi tether to connect my thunderbolt to my gt10.1. With version 3 I have it set to softap (master) not ad hoc. Access control is on and I have the routing fix box checked for htc phones. I tethered well over 1gb this morning with no problems

Check the android development section of the epic section.. SFR1.2 is the rom, Genocide 1.1final is the kernel. They include wifi tether that works for the epic in the rom..

Ok..finally followed the guide here and replaced my wpa_supplicant using the links provided. I have wireless tether v3.0pre14 working with no authentication. I am now going to play with authentication and may back down to pre11 since you had good luck with it. I am surfing solid with no drops...video streaming is fairly slow but thats to be expected I would assume. I am running rooted 10.1 retail 32MB with Verizon Droid Eris rooted running GB 2.3.3.
Many THANKS for the help!
Just to add a data point, I hadn't tried tethering my Tab to my Thunderbolt until I read this thread. I am running Wireless Tether 2.08pre. I set up access control and also enabled wifi encryption. I used it for about 20 minutes without any problems. That includes email, surfing the internet, and YouTube.
I too can tether the GT 10.1 with my HTC Thunderbolt using Wifi Tether, but am having trouble with the Samsung Droid Charge. Anybody get the Charge to tether successfully? TIA!

[HOW TO] TETHER in INFASTRUCTURE Via 4G

Hello all this question has been raised Countless times!! Well I just Figured something out that has worked FOR ME!!
HOW CAN YOU TETHER IN INFRASTRUCTURE MODE in 4G? No more tethering with 3g only with android ap or 4g in AD-HOC with wifi tether for root users..
What does this mean?
You can now connect to your devices that cannot connect to the AD-HOC (PEER) signal!!
EXAMPLE TABLETS, PS3 and anything else that cannot pick up the peer to peer Signal.
Also Allows Much faster tether speeds Via 4g as compared to AD-HOC
currently us users are only able to connect to 3g via The Native Tether AP you are not able to tether via 4g IN Via Infrastructure!!
My current set up if it matters ICS ROM and Mathkids most recent kernel!! And WIFI Tether v. 3.1 beta 11
MUST FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS Exactly..
1. Assuming Your set up is similar (as i have not verified it works any other way) Install WIFI Tether v. 3.1 beta 11
2. Open up the tether program - select device profile - Chose Galaxy nexus CDMA
3.Change Setup Method - Select Netd (Master)
4. Change Device Profile - Select Samsung Epic 4g
5 - Start to tether as you would normally AND OBSERVE!! MAGIC IT NOW IS TETHERING IN INFRASTRUCTURE!!!
Hopefully Wifi tether for root users can now be updated to allow the NS4g TO TETHER!! This is important and I know the few people that understand what I am talking about will surely appreciate this!!
Thanks a lot i will definitely give this a try.

I can confirm it causes reboots but only after heavy usage, for instance I have multiple devices connected and I get a phone call while I have an app already open. I notice my battery temperature goes up to around 104 or higher when it happens. Most time its fine though.

I'm getting really slow internet this way. Normally I get about 1.5MB/sec with 4G usb tether, and now I get about 300KB/sec with wifi tether. The 4G icon shows, but I'm just not getting proper speeds. Also, speedtest showed I was getting about 60KB/sec with 4G wifi tether
Oh, and I can't get any ap passwords to work, either. The wifi app accepts them just fine, but windows says it's wrong.
This setup works perfect (FOR ME) FOR 4G in Infrastructure, as far as 3g just use android AP - Native tether - i used it for 5 and a half hours last-night plugged in not 1 reboot - make sure your set up is similar maybe the kernel or something.
IT IS DEFINITELY FASTER as i was averaging 6 Mbps down. I live in a 4g area - so this may only apply to certain individuals!!
IM USING IT AS I POST
ALSO I WAS USING HEAVY NETFLIX VIA PS3 and my computer connected downloading...
I would look into a combination of kernels - ALSO NOTE MY PHONE SETUP -
Nice! Works well with this set up connecting to my tablet in infrastructure with 4g. Battery temp isn't getting that high either.
this is working great, thank you. im currently connected to 3 devices. my pc,tv and tablet. my tv is currently streaming netflix in hd and im surfing the web and typing this message with my pc. getting 4g tether speeds between 7-10 mbs. i am running bigxie rom with latest mathkid kernal. those who are having troubles make sure you follow the instructions and not just install the apk and run it

Bypass tether limit on tmobile v20 with root please

Hello!! I'm looking for a way to bypass the crappy T-Mobile one 500kbps limit on tethering speed and was hoping someone here could help! That dun option someone posted doesn't work and I was wondering if there was a root hotspot app or something I could use to get high speed tethering

I put wifi tether router on the phone and the speed was even slower. I tested the speed after the dun addition and it was faster. Maybe just a coincidence.
If you're doing usb tether, Foxfi will do the job for you. I use it every day.
I second that, Foxfi works great!
Use the nethunter rom build. Its kernel supports the modules for iptables necessary to change TTL for all outgoing tcp/ip packets.
