Thor, go here:
http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
Choose the correct tablet, and it's listed under "documents" instead of OS. It's 109.3Mb
I hope it hasn't been uploaded in error. Best download it in case it's removed!
What does this mean for our custom ROMs though?

Freaking Acer !!
Can't even do a simple job of naming file ??
The 3.0 is called "Kernel source"...
And the 3.1 is named "application guide" ...sheesh !!
I love my Iconia A500... But as the days goes by... seeing how Acer handles things ( supports, updates...etc ) ... they are the last manufacturer on my list to get my money the future ( if that's even possible ! )

Their behavior regards updates, etc was known before. Just look at acer liquid. But their devices have excellent hardware and cost less than others. This make us to choose them and not the support or anything else.
3.1 kernel source is up again on Acer Website.
Link here: http://www.acercomputer.se/ac/sv/SE/content/drivers
Edit: Downloaded it to my computer just in case.
How to Install this Kernel ?
Thx

I was wondering why its been so quite after HTC released the new kernel for the Sprint Hero, I thought that was the missing link that was needed for complete 1.6/2.0/2.1 roms?
It hasn't been quiet.
Also the kernel that HTC released needs to be ported to 2.6.29 to fully work with 1.6+.
All this info is on the forum & easily obtainable.

I just thought we would see some 1.6/2.0/2.1 releases now that the kernel was released, that's all
There's been 1.6+ releases for a while...
Let me elaborate a little here:
This kernel that was released is not a magic bullet, it allows us to see what code needs to be changed to get the correct Kernel to run these newer versions. It also lets us make any performance changes we can find.
All of the changes need to be put into the current kernel source, making it a .29 or whatever we need.
It has been fairly quite, we aren't seeing tons of Roms being thrown out to the market, thankfully. Our devs are taking all the time they need to make sure everything works and is stable. We should see some big stuff happen in the next week or so.

Well they haven't actually officially released the 3.1 kernel binaries yet so we can hardly expect them to release the source before then. Look how slow they have been to release 3.01 source.
I won't be surprised if their 3.1 binaries are the same as the leaked one too.
We might just see 3.1 source as 3.2 is released.
It's available on the Australian Acer site.
Now to start hounding them for the 3.1 source
Its been on the US site since the 23rd. Look in the drivers/documents area.
Acer site should be the first thing that shows up on your websites widget that was installed by Acer.

If I'm not mistaken, I have to fork the gingerbread source then overwrite the stuff with the downloaded stuff from opensource.samsung.net, correct?
You will not be able to get a working rom image to be flashed in that fashion.
HC is closed src, for the most part.

from source, you cannot.
in binary form, take a CWM backup of your system.

The roms in the dev forum are FROM ACER.. That is what you asked..
THE ANSWER TO the above is NO.. THERE IS NO Released update from acer for the a500 tablet. There is no full Officially released ICS Rom of any kind from Acer for out tablet. the leak is as close as you will get right now.. acer says mid April is when they push to ics will start. If you want your tablet stock WAIT..
ok ... i want the close rom that there is to the stock
so i think i need to wait for these four rom's

People does not simply give answer without making some kind of "where is waldo game"
here your answer dude
Have the driver ADB ready for your tablet
FIRMWARE LEAK STOCK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524736
I updated it with the stock recovery (dunno if you can do it with the custom one... have to check for this to be sure)
ROOT WITH
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593
DO NOT INSTALL FACELOCK , it's not yet working totally
DO NOT INSTALL ACER RING (up to you but it's really useless...)
IF YOU WANT change to RW the /system (for modify some stuff)
an application will be installed with the rooting one,
normally it's will be the first app on your tablet,
1 - click on it,
2 - then press first option and second
reboot your tablet
redo exactly the step 1 and 2
then open root explorer and you normally are able to change /system to RW
end of story. have a nice day
PS:
Why the leak one and not custom rom
well I never got any SOD problem, or anything else than CUSTOM got...
CUSTOM are good it's a fact, but for sure the "Official" rom will probably got less bug, I use to have taboonay before, I didn't go back to stock because not satified, just because I wanted to... that's it.
DEV are doing a great job and that have to be said

I think you need to work on your reading comprehension a bit. Erica quite clearly said "RELEASED", and she's 100% right. There is currently NO officially released ICS update for the A500. We know it's coming, and we know roughly when, but it's not RELEASED yet.
