[q] genocide kernel 2.6.32.9?????? - Epic 4G General

Maybe i have been flashing the genocide 2.0 kernel correctly because i see the genocide 2.0 animation when i boot up but the kernel version in my settings say 2.6.32.9....which when i googled it...says that that is the stock kernel. When i use the vision kernel...the kernel version says vision kernel..any input will be highly appreciated..thanks...

What you're looking at is the linux kernel build number. Any "custom" kernels like Genocide are built around this. Kernel developers simply no longer change this number.

Thanks so much...i figured i was running it due to the boot animation and the simple fact my set cpu was working but nothing like conformation! Thanks Random King

[Q] flashing kernels

at this point i flashed my fascinate following directions on the dj05 rom, kernel, radio thread. However, I went with Stupidfast v1.54 kernel. I'm operating fine, but how do i know the kernel flashed? everything shows success, but does the kernel version show up in phone info ie. my Kernel Version still shows 2.6.29
sorry for the noob question
2.6.29 is the linux kernel version that samsung's kernel is based upon. All the current custom kernels on the fascinate are still based on samsungs code. If installation of stupid fast went smoothly without error that should be what you are running. Also this is not really a question for the dev forum.
Thanks for the reply, this is where I found the info originally so I figured best place for answers.

You could install the app setcpu...open the app, set to autodetect when it prompts you, then press the info tab and it will give you kernel info at the top.

? about faux123 latest cfs kernel

[Optional CFS kernel ONLY]
If this is first time you FLASH my kernel or you just recently FLASHED any ROM,
To use my CFS-Tweaks from version xxx, you must FLASH xxx first, then FLASH the latest version.
This is stated by fox in his kernel thread maybe i am being a bit thick headed but i don't wanna mess anything up.I am on cm7 7.0.2 and i wanna flas his latest cfs kernel to test but what i dont understand is this part to use my cfs-tweaks from version xxx you must first flash xxx.what do i have to flash before i flash his latest kernel exactly?Any help is greatly appreciated. And sorry for the dumb question.

Don't worry about it as its obsolete as of now. All of his new CFS kernel now has the BFS like tweak which you had to flash special kernel before and then flash newer kernel on top of it.
With all his updates he puts, out four files. 2 low voltage files and 2 stock volatge files. My,suggestion is to use the low voltage first if that doesnt work use the stock voltage. Backup...duh. Flash cfs lv than flash bfs lv. His instructions are better so follow his.

LV and SV has nothing to do with it as what you just said had nothing to do with what he asked. Before when he didn't have BFS based he only had CFS so he try to make BFS like on top of CFS which was not full BFS. At this point all the CFS based kernel has the BFS like tweak so you don't have to flash the special kernel anymore.
thanks for the input guys..now off to flashing in hopes of better battery life.
im still unclear as to which kernal to use. I am running cm7.0.3 . thnx for ur input.
its my first kernel flsh. I just want to be sure I have the rite one.

how to check kernel versions?

hey all,
fairly new to android, but i've rooted and installed a couple of roms and kernals for fun.
now i've forgotten what im actually running. lol yes, i am that dumb.
here's what've installed:
1. frozen rom 1.1 - stock twilightzone 1.1 kernel
2. frozen rom 1.1 - with vision kernel
3. frozen rom 1.1 - with genocides kernel
4. frozen rom 1.1.1 - with genocides kernel
5. frozen rom 1.1.1 - stock kernel twilightzone 1.1.1RC2 - hajime-taisho
right now, in "About Phone"
firmware version is "2.2.1" so i know im on froyo
baseband ends in "EC05" so i've odin'd the right modem(i think i read a post that said baseband = modem version)
kernel version is "2.6.32.9" dunno which kernal im running.
build number says "twilightzone 1.1.1RC2 - hajime-taisho"
What it says in build is the kernel your runing. So twilightzone 1.1.1rc2 is your current kernel

oh i thought build number is the rom im running and kernel version was kernel version. what if i put genocide's kernel on? i'd be running ACS frozenrom 1.1.1 with genocide's kernal, what would 'kernel version' and 'build number' say?

Could also use setCPU to check it
Yes use set cpu. Click info it'll tell you. I flashed genocide kernel build number just says syndicate frozen.

ahh i completely forgot about setcpu.
in my setcpu it says
build : twilight zonev1.1.1RC2 - hajime-taisho
kernal : linux version 2.6.32.9
so right now im running ACS frozen rom 1.1.1 with the 1.1.1 stock kernel?
Yes I flashed genocide and in set cpu it said viper . So your on the kernel that comes with srf 1.1.1
oh sweet. ty. the lingo is just a lil new to me
i just flashed genocide's kernel, now my build number says "SyndicateROM Frozen"!
thanks for everyone's help
the kernel will almost always stay the same in about phone, all custom kernels are based on the same linux kernel... and genocide doesnt change the build version, so you now get to see what your rom changes the build version to...

Kernels

I am trying to find a kernel that will work with DubShot Espresso (not ported), my goal is to be able to use IncrediControl but when I try to boot up after flashing the IncrediKernel my phone won't go past the HTC Incredible Screen. Anyone know any way around this? or if this kernel will even work with this rom?

Is that a Sense ROM? If so, the latest Incredikernel's are for AOSP GB and AOSP Froyo ROM's. He has a Sense 2.2 kernel, but Incredicontrol won't work with it (I don't think so anyways...?).
You could try tiny's kernel, which is for Sense 2.3 ROM's, but I don't think he has the included items needed for Incredicontrol to work.

I'm using tiny's kernal for the sense rom. I believe you can use Incredicontrol to work audio boost and fast USB charge. However, tiny's kernel doesn't support voltage adjustments.

That is correct, it doesn't. I hope to be able to release it with that function sometime after the source drops though for the gingerbread kernel.

Thank you for the correction. I knew something worked, and something didn't.

you said not ported? if you meant the kernel then there is no such thing for gingerbread yet that is custom.

2.6.36+ kernel

I want to know if there's a 2.6.36 kernel for our device.
I know there is working 2.6.35 which I have built and used on. But I am specifically interested in 2.6.36 or 2.6.37. The reason is I'm tring to add new io schedule and .35 doesn't support row or fias.
I found some 2.6.36 msm7x30 kernels for samsung, but I can't find one for HTC. (even a dhd kernel will be fine.)
Anyone can help me on this?
Btw, I know 4.1 and 4.0 can run on 2.6 kernel. If I want to port a 4.2 rom, how can I make it work on 2.6 instead of a 3.0 kernel?
The rom has to be able to run off of a 2. kernel. I know PAC 15 does.
