Apple has made its money, ipod, ipad, iphone, just about everything we have today has somthing for an "i" device.
Androiod is a great OS but after 4 years of all previous iphones i must say iOS can't be surpassed. =/
Maybe give android 4 years and iOS would be completely removed off the grid seeing how successful and convienient it has been.
I have had an unlocked iphone with tmobile since the 2g model. IOS is a great os, and if tmobile had a their own iphone, I probably would still have my iphone. Just dealing with having to unlock it and worring I might brick my just became too much, and it was time for a switch so I got the hd2 and discovered andriod which is a great os, but IOS definitely has it beat. Iphones are just very user friendly. The only reason those numbers from that link are in such a favor of android is because iphone's are only sold on att. If you open that market up to all carriers the Iphone would be on top.

I disagree. I believe that the reason Android is on top is because it's not a phone, it's an operating system.
Apple and AT&T simply can't create hundreds of different versions of the iPhone in order to compete with Android. Instead, they are focused on improving the one they have, as they should be.
I'm really confused by all of the "Android vs iPhone" arguments out there. News flash folks: Android isn't a phone!
You can't compare apples and oranges (no pun intended). Now, put the HD2 or the Nexus One or the Droid up against the iPhone 4 and then come back and let me know how those numbers went.
This time next year, I want to hear how Phone 7 does against Android. That's OS vs OS and thus a valid argument. Android vs iPhone is not.

I would have to disagree with you there. iOS 4 is an operating system on a phone i.e. Iphone 4. Just because the os is locked to one phone or carrier doesnt mean it is less of an os. Just like mac operating system's are only on macs, it doesnt make it less of an os then windows. iOS 4 is even used in the iTouch and iPad. My god I sound like a complete apple fag lol. I wasnt trying to bag andriod. I am pretty content with sticking with android, its has alot of potential. Which alot of it has already been shown to us, especially in the ability of porting it to different phones that arent native for android.
would you think if the IOS can be extracted and can be inserted into sd card
and can get loaded with haret too? like hackintoshed pc. would you call it an iphone? lol
iphone is the same planet with android. winmo is outer galaxy.
android and apple ,they'll lived among their own believers for many years.
What does any of this have to do with android on our HD2?
We have a section for this kind of crap, its called off topic! keep it there.
Why do you even feel the need to have another Ios vs android discussion. Its nonsense.
To many people think their opinion is the be all and end all, ITS NOT
Each OS have disadvantages, and advantages. Its down to what your looking for in a smartphone, and what you need from your OS.
I know both are totally different phones and I am not trying to compare them at all. But considering the price tag it is pretty much where iPhone 5 will be. So anybody sharing the same thought to compare S3 and iPhone 5 side by side to decide which one to buy.
By the way I was hoping that my next phone will be LTE capable. S3 is not there and I think iPhone may also not be since they have to manufacture specifically region specific. Any ideas if S3 plans to support LTE later
Thanks

It's always better to compare them side by side, but it's going to be a long wait, as the iPhone 5 probably isn't due for at least a couple of months. I'd rather be playing with a new phone, than waiting for an unannounced phone.
Hello ,I am too confused like you.I have aleardy SIII and don't know to sell and wait iPhone 5.But I decide to remain on SIII because this phone is really great don't have big problems with him and I don't know what to say about iPhone but if SII is better than iPhone 4-4S , probably this thing repeatly with SIII and iPhone 5.
Sorry Android>iOS
To be honest I can't stand the iPhone or its operating system. It will be super small a measly 4 inch screen that's even if the rumors are true. The S3 is 4.8. Android just works.... a ton better than iOS. I would never go back to an apple product. But if you like it go ahead and get. But i will point and laugh at you

What do you mean S3 isn't there? LTE will be on all North American and the NTT Docomo version plus 2 gigs of ram. If you want an answer on which device to buy, dont come to a thread dedicated to the iP5s biggest competitor and expect to hear any answers in favor of it. Just wait for the iPhones release and play with it side by side of the S3. My guess the only new thing in iOS 6 will be a trumped up lawsuit against Google.
Woa... Cool down guys.
I own a galaxy S and not too much of an apple fan as such.
The only reason I am relating them is due to the price tag for comparison. What's wrong in checking if there are people in the world sharing the same thought.
Not sure what part of it offends you. Do you think all ppl on this forum own a sgs3?? There are many ppl like me scanning This thread to make a choice.

You probably wont have to wait. Odds are Apple is going to show off the iPhone at WWDC 2012 which is June 11-15, and usually they release them to the public not to long after showing them off.
In Android world SGS3 will be outdated by the time iPhone5 and next Nexus comes out around October/November. In fact Samsung may have an updated Note or may be an upgraded SGS3 kind of device with super amoled plus HD, it's quite possible.
But the thing is SGS3 is available to buy now and it's an awesome device. There will be always better devices coming in the distant future after buying any device.
Also about the price tag $$800 for a device that does what Apple says or $800 for a device that does what you want it to. If you enjoy the customization of Android then go that route, if you want a phone that has seven hundred million accessories go with iPhone. But by all means don't base your decision on others' thoughts.
Frankly speaking go wid SGS 3 . By the time iPhone 5 will come out samsung wud ve already readied or in the process of readying SGS3 successor so u wud put the same question again Wait for SGS 4 ? Or go with iPhone 5.
If u want phone for fun go with sgs3 if u want a boring OS with almost similar maybe slightly better app support then go with iPhone 5
For all we know, iPhone 5 could be this juggernaut with 99999999 new features. But:
1) That's the thing: we don't know.
2) Considering that previous upgrades have been pretty much incremental (and indeed, they pride themselves on this and call it "consistency"), I wouldn't personally hold my breath. After all, apple has such product differentiation with their iSheep that they don't need to actively compete in order to maintain their sales. (This is to say nothing of their usage of litigation rather than competition.) But again, this is just my personal guess; they could have adopted a completely new strategy, for all I know.
What's well-known, though, is that other stuff would come out around that same time: the Note II, the Nexii to list the best known examples. Whether you want to wait for these is down to your preferences.
But the iPhone 5 itself is just a big black box. One that I don't think is worth holding your breath on.

Great thread
Being part of the Apple of family for many years, currently owning a MBP, new iPad, iPhone 4 and an Apple TV, I am in the same boat. My contract expires in a month and torn between waiting for the 5 or switching to android and the SGS III. Even if a little biased, this forum is one of my main daily sources to check and help me make up my mind.
So thats that, keep the opinions coming..
I had a 4S, then the Note and now the S3. The S3 is very grown up, better than the 4S in many ways and looks better. Personally I would get the S3 as its available now and is a great phone. When the 5 is available check it out. You can then decide if you want to sell.
Unless iOS 6 starts offering widgets and customisation to the extent of android then I would stay with android. If you use iTunes and have a lot of media then iPhone 5 might be better.

No, Apple cant now copy Android because it would mean that IOS sucks. SO homescreens on IOS would be an himiliation for Apple.

You're best staying with Apple as it sounds like you love that ecosystem. Throwing in another OS at this point could just bring complications unless you have a great urge for 100% customisation.
And I suspect an upgrade from a iPhone 4 to a iPhone 5 will be a lot more noticeable than 4 to a 4S.
The new iOS has widgets, and u can chose your own keyboard plus many software changes. Admittedly copied from Android.
I'm considering.... I don't use the s. pen much or most of the bloat ware.. The camera on the iPhone will be great plus I luv the way it's all (apps and data) backed up (to do this on Android I have to root and lose my warranty) . I have found my note 3 to be good but the new iPhone could be great... Are you thinking of changing?

Hell no.
I used to say if Apple ever released an iPhone with 5inch screen or more I'd probably return. However, not so much now - I own an iPad Mini and can't really see much benefit to using another Apple product. Plus with my flashing addiction now, it'll never happen.

I was with iPhone from the beginning until the S3 came out, that was when I first switched over to Android, but Android has come so far now, where as iOS is falling behind. if you could flash custom ROMS on iOS... then I could be tempted back.. There's certainly no denying Apple Hardware is pretty damn good. (or run Android on Apple Hardware, I think this may be possible one day - especially as you can run windows on a MAC)

and Samsung is coming out with its Tizen o/s.

Nah, can't stand iOS now after using Android for so long... Have an iPad 4th gen and i hardly use that because i find iOS to be just eurgh... Used to be an Apple fanboy a while back... Never again i'm afraid...
We have to wait the new version of Android first... however since I bought the note 3 I also sold the ipad air...
No I won't. The thought has crossed my mind many times but no. I won't go back to the horror called iTunes or not being able to download stuff even via safari (I used to have both an iPhone 4 and a Galaxy s1). Back then I'd have to admit IOS was better than Android. Nowadays since jellybean I wouldn't recommend IOS over anything. The fact that you will be limited in every sense of the word still makes it a big NO for me. Just my 2c.

Despite the rumors, I don't think apple will release the 5.5 inches screen, only the 4.7 one and a tweak on the iPhone 5S. They will not be as stupid as to lose the size their user base loves so much... I mean, with all the BS on one hand operation we've had to put up with for so long, they wouldn't be as dumb as to pass on that, right?
Apple is copying many of the best Android features, making itself more attractive to Android users, but in all honesty, it's not enough.
Like aluminum? The HTC one m8 is better, larger, sports better sound, and has all the Android stuff apple has not copied yet. Like better looks? The LG G3 is just amazing... Then there is price... Flagship material like the one plus one or the find 7 are half the price of the iPhone, with better specs and way more flexibility.
I don't know, I really don't see any reason to move to Apple.

My Note 4 is beyond its limits...
I don't see any other important reason not to switch to the Lumia 950XL
Am already using Onenote with my colleagues.
So much better... well it's Office...
Same with my Note 10.1 2014... Surface (pro) 4 it will be.
Android apps are already and maybe iOS ones will be running on Windows which is the other major seller for Windows 10
Android was once very open... now it's becoming more restrictive to satisfy even the dumbest user... for those there is already i'doit'OS.
Impossible / hard to root... SD practically unusable...
Huge Software problems with 5.0 and 5.1 across all Manufacturers.
The Base is too old... not designed for 8 core 4GB Ram devices
Windows 10 is a completely new OS
Android is dying... fragmenting within itself now - in the near future more manufacturers will make their own Android... am telling you... it's the rise of Windows
Back to the smartphone roots

I agree with u somehow
the discipline in company and products is important whatever product sucks like winVista or good like win7 or maybe completely new and gr8 like win10 (but not changing whole company with new name ALPHABET!)
Microsoft will change smartphone markets but it s on early stages
Android is awesome but maybe google policy is not good enough for it
so native support for APK packages on Win10 can make some different for Android Developers
:good:
btw u should send it to Android Forum, General Section, not in galaxy note 5
actually you may have something here..with the mass exodous from Samsung that the note 5/S6 has started, the alternative phones/OS are suddenly going to have a opportunity to come back again; I just dumped my samsung for a nexus, my wife and son dumped their samsungs for LG G4's, it seems like 95% of my XDA buddies are completely fed up with Samsung, so, there has never been a better time for windows 10,Blackberry, and or any of the "newcomers" out their to get their products into the market place.
Samsung has lost their "leader" mentality, and obviously thinks they can just rest on their past laurels and maintain the giant customer base they have enjoyed for the last several years..
boy, are they in for a rude awakening..
You talk about iOS being "restrictive" and yet you want to move to Windows Phone. Does no one see the irony is this?
IOS can be jailbroken; is there a way to "crack" windows phone?
Haha hahah Android is dead? You sure have a great imagination. I sure hope windows finally gets better because everyone can only win with more phone competing to make a better product
