Is there some sort of warranty sticker or something which should tell you if the phones been opened etc..
Lift the battery cover off from the phone and over one of the screws there is a white sticker that says VOID on it
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
There's a sticker which says void on it but there is no screw over it - does this mean it has been opened or just that the screw has been taken off....
If you see the sticker that says void on it then it has not been opened, as you need to remove the sticker to get to the screw. Hope this helped!

Worth noting it is quite easy to buy the void stickers so having this sticker in place is not a 100% guarantee device has not been opened.
worth inspecting all screw heads for signs of silvering inside torx star from tool use & inspect casing edging for signs of prying during dismantling ... also checking how flush screen edging is with housing & all buttons click & function normally ...

Now, this is confusing me. Take the battery cover of your phone, and look at the bottom right corner. Where the other corners have screws, on this corner there's a small little black circle that says VOID in white letters. Is this a moisture detector? For warranty exchanges and such? Because honestly, I've never gotten my phone wet. I was at a rock concert yesterday and I did notice sweat dripping onto my phone screen when I would look at it but I don't think this was enough to set off moisture detectors? specially if I wiped it off before it even got internally into the phone..
my guess is its so they know you didnt unscrew the phone and open it

Can you do me a favor and check if yours says it too? I really need to get this sorted out. I need to know how much trouble I'm in if anything happens to my phone.

Oh f*ck me. Thanks man.
They all have it. What it means is your warranty is void if that sticker is off, only reason for it to be off is if you took it off to remove the screw to take apart the phone. The moisture detectors are white and turn pink when wet.

not only does every slide have it but every electronic device. sony psp's have them the g1 the mytouch the sony xperia.
its a tamper seal. only broke when taking apart the device (voids warrenty)
the white circle stickers UNDER the battery and INSIDE the phone as said are the water detector
you can buy both stickers on ebay if you really need to fix your device (broken screen) and return it for a new or reman
Yeah, thanks guys my last phone had it, and it was a sidekick LX that I had gotten wet, and I figured it's VOID sticker was a moisture detector somehow.

Some of the slides have them in a different location. Mine is near the SIM tray under the battery. Weird
I just received a new phone from verizon because the USB port on my old one was wacky. I noticed that the void sticker on my old one is black, and the sticker on my new one is red. Is this one of those stickers that changes color with water damage? If so, which color is it supposed to be?
The one they sent me is a refurb, so I want to make sure I didn't get one that will prevent me from getting warranty work done in the future. I also want to know in case the old one supposedly had water damage, because I have to bring it back tomorrow.
Mine's black.

And yours hasn't been subjected to any water, right?
EDIT: also, this is already ranked in the top 5 on google when I search for "HTC void sticker black"
Holy fast indexing batman!
that sticker isnt for water damage, its for disassemble void. you have to poke through that with a torx screwdriver in order to take all four screws out for pulling the phone apart (repairs typically). that way they know if you took apart your phone to modify or whatever else, voiding your warranty.
That's what I thought at first, but the fact that they were different colors threw me off.
Must have been an aesthetic design change

You're welcome.
i just started working for google and this made me chuckle so i thought i'd say hi. BTW I just repair the computers so i dont know anything much bout android, but i do plan on learning.
the stickers that check for water contact are cross hatched red lines until it wet, then it goes solid red.
The less publicized void sticker shortage of the droid incredible.
Sent from my rooted Incredible using XDA App
Hah, I just received a new Incredible today myself. The old void sticker was black, but this one's green! They must have run out of the red ones for mine I guess.
I've sent a lot of phones into Verizon in the past and they & Asurion both have told me that they don't care about void stickers... I wouldn't worry about it...
hi,
how are the screws safed by samsung?
exactly what i want to know is how are the screws safed by unscrewing the first time to save the warranty?!
if i open the phone how can samsung see that? is there something special to the screws e.g. some lacquer on the screws that they can see you have opened your phone?
thanks in advance!
Not sure but I'll will warn you that taking it apart even after removing all the screws is a huge pain, it doesn't just come apart it's still snapped together all the way around.
I didn't worry about mine because it was already apart for warranty repair (and not put back together right, left a gap, which is why I took it apart).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gydoCVSTNFc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt9XNnjAcBc&
i asked because they use the same screws for disassembling no paint... nothing
Eww that vid with the creepy nails again
Let me tell you without the freak nails (or some special tool?) getting that plastic off is a pain. I used a tiny screw driver and worked at it for a while.
I've opened mine and there are some kind of paint at the tip of the screw (see the picture below). I don't know if that is for waranty propose but i think it is not, because let say if you take your phone to a service center, they take the screws off, the same thing happens, the paint is take away. So there is no way for them to note it.
But there is a bigger problem ) I'm sure when you try to take the scews off, you will damage some of them. So there will be a clear sign that you opened you phone.
And finally I recommand you to take it to a service center if it is under waranty. It is pain in the ... to open the back plate.
The blue material is 'loctite' type stuff to help secure the screws from loosening, not related to any kind of 'intrusion detection'.
What is your reason for wanting to open it anyways? There's not much to do in there except break it and possibly void the warranty.
Perhaps to fix your GPS antenna ?

Only way we know is if the screws are slighty rounded off as we replaced them after each time we open them.
The colour on screws is just to fasten them nothing special.
mid section comes off with ease just start at the bottom of the phone and move the bezel off the sides of the phone a bit and yay almost drops off.
ok thank you! this means they can´t see it if we dont damage the screws.
2 of my screws are a little bit scratched since it was in repair.... i never opened them myself.

Hi, can you tell me where can I get some replacement screws?
I've got an issue with my camera (black blurry dots on pictures) and i opened mine and cleaned it up but the problem seemed to be a hardware one.
Now i have to take it to waranty for them to replace the camera. I'm looking for replacements screws cause I rounded and scratched mine and you can clearly see it. There is no way they gonna accepts it for waranty like that

Or if you are kind, can you help me out with some? I will pay you, there is no problems.
I have a friend living in London, I think shipping is not an issue.
Many thanks!
@elviroo: I found that site too, but they are wholesale
then call http://www.samsungparts.com them
i think there you will get them.

this should be the screws!
sry for double posting but i couldnt edit an attachment to my other post
Thanks for the links, but that is not a solution for me. The shipping cost is too much 38$ only for shipping. I can just buy a new camera module with that money and replace it

Good luck with yer fraud there. Those guys know *exactly* what the watermark is supposed to look like. Plus there's often an internal watermark as well (dunno about on the Vibrant). Also, if there are signs of water damage inside the phone other than the mark itself, they can still hold you accountable for water damage. The mark is just there, really, so you have something to check yourself or at the t-mobile store before doing an exchange.
I'd expect to have to pay the out of warranty fee if I were you. It's still less than the cost of a new phone.
How I fixed this.
The little white sticker is the same size as a fired .223 case. find a laminated business card or something that resembles the original sheen of the water indicator. put the .223 case into a drill (open end out) and use a piece of sand paper to sharpen it. (turn the drill on and hold the sand paper around it). Once it is sharpened place the laminated card or whatever you found on a piece of wood, (because drilling out the dot will leave marks on the surface of whatever is beneath it), and drill it out. clean up the edges if necessary, remove the old red sticker and carefully glue the new one in its place. I have done this with multiple replacements, and I have never had anyone look twice.
Someone posted a method awhile back in another section. Try using the search function. It involved bleach but I couldn't give you proper step by steps like that person posted.

just swap the watermark with your replacement handsets one....
Even if you figure out how to make it white again they will know.. I had a Tmo Dash that got wet and stopped working i got charged out of warranty fee even though the white dot was still white.. There are other tells placed inside of a device not to mention the board damage they will find when they inspect the phone..

I've also heard something about bleach but i'm too lazy to search for it lol
I heard using a q-tip with alcohol works.
There was something posted, if I remember....
Start with peroxide on a q tip. This will turn it bright red, then bleach q tip.
This is for informational purposes only. doing this for fraudulent reasons is wrong and could result in bad things happening.
Beware of angry gingerbread man
There is 1 by battery and 1 inside, go get cheapest fone you can find and replace the stickers. My phone fell in a lake, I went to visit my friend at an independent dealership and he's the one that told me to do it. We replaced the stickers and I called in saying my phone "magically" stopped working. They asked me what colour the sticker by battery was, I said white and they send me a replacement phone shortly after. I haven't had a problem...just thought I'd share my experience but you shouldn't lie...

Also if they do find it the out of warranty fee is $90, which in worst case is a lot better than buying a new phone.

But opening your play already voids the warranty.

And how could SE know that you've opened your phone?
I don't know about this phone's internals but blackberries have little white/blue circle paper-like on top of the screws, so you have to smash them to open it and that's how they find out.
If they don't have anything like that on SE phones then you're good to go.
