Currently, I'm running the Virtuous Unity ROM and everything is working great. I really like the internet pass-through feature while I'm at work. I can connect my phone to my computer through the USB cable and use my work internet on my phone, so I don't use my internet plan through t-mobile. Unfortunately, my work does not provide wifi.
My question is if this is also possible on other ROMs, and what the steps would be to go about it if I were using MIUI or cm7.
On Virtuous Unity, all I have to do is change from charge only to internet pass-through. Very simple. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions to make this work on other ROMs?
Thanks in advance.

i found how to do it...
would you mind to share your enlightenment?
recent Sense builds have internet pass through option. Reverse tethering.
What you're after is 'internet pass-through' and although I may be wrong the only Android builds I've seen to incorporate this seems to be ones based upon Desire HD.
i know this is a little off topic but if you have a wireless card in your computer or laptop you could try turning your laptop/computer into a wireless hotspot and connect like that using this app: Virtual Router
Hey Android world,
I want to connect my MT4G through my works internet connection via USB.
I work at a nuclear plant with a lot of metal inside resulting in no service. I would like to have a fully functional phone via my works internet connection. Our computer systems at the plant do not have wireless cards and it is impossible to create an ADHOC network. Also, additional software is not allowed to be installed on the computer due to strict system admin rights.
Is there an app or setting out there that can allow me to preform this function?
Please help.
as far as I know IMHO there currently is no app out there that can help you. But if your local System Admins don't mind a side step in the internet connection at your work I would suggest using a wireless router, preferably one that you can use LAN and Wifi, that way your computer stays connected and YOU stay connected to your life using wifi and wifi calling. bout the best answer I can give you bud. and the router shouldn't require any extra software to be installed on the computer therefor bypassing your strict Comp Admin Rights. Hope this helps ya a bit!

Well, if you are rooted and able to flash roms, then I believe there is an option in the desire based rom's made by evil and gr8 that enables you to use the computers internet on the phone via USB. I haven't used the roms in a while, so idk for certain if this will work. Might be worth a shot, tho.

It's called internet pass-through. I see it as an option on Evil's Virtuous Fusion Rom when I connect to USB, but I can't seem to get it to work. Has anyone found a way to make this work?

I tried the Royal Penache ROM just to try out the Internet Pass-Through option. And yes, it worked awesome. Give it a try.
You have to download HTC sync for the internet passthrough to work... And it does work

Well it all depends on what kind of rom you running. If you are running an AOSP Rom like CM6 or CM7 then yes it is possible. If you are running a Sense roms Then no. I do not know about the Salsa sense one. Still need to test that one out.
But download wireless tether for root users. In the settings you can set it to use BT and not Wifi.
If you done that and then turn of tethering. Well then you can hook your device up with your PC/mac. If you done that, In windows it is called, connect to accesspoint. On mac, Connect to network. and then its done.
The big + on BT over wifi. it uses less battery and when it is not in use it does not use battery at all.
PS: This is more a question for the Q and A then development..
Ok with Salsa sense it works to So I am a happy dude.

Hey is it possible to use internet pass-through without an htc sense rom...
I am using MIUI android and want to use internet pass through like in htc sense rom..
I want to use computers internet in hd2...
Is there some way to do so ??
There should be an option in Settings>System>Tethering&Hotspot
Just enable USB Tethering.
I think internet pass-through is the other way around from wifi or USB tethering.
It allows the phone to use the pc's internet connection.
Is it the same way or I have it all backwards. put me wise.
Do all MIUI builds have pass through built in ! I think not ...
One up for WM 6.5.x, bluetooth, USB & adhoc internetet sharing from device to PC or PC to device all setup in under a minute.

Hi to you all,
I have a Nexus S with the latest AOKP ROM. What I wanted to do is to enable tethering in a Win7 PC, but only allowing the browser to have, lets call it network connection, a leaving the rest of the PC untouched.
Is this possible to perfom? How can I do it? Maybe using a portable version of Firefox...
Thank you in advance!
