[Q] music player to manage folders from mounted hdd? - Acer Iconia A500

I have a portable hdd with about 90gb of music stored to it. I mount it to my rooted a500, and it works fine, to an extent. I can select a song, which it will play, but I can't find a music player which is able to use the /sda1 mount to manage the music folders, only from the SD cards.
Does anyone here have a solution, or know of a player that will do this for me?
Thanks in advance.

Same here. Im waiting for my iconia 500 and i have a 320gb external hdd with music+playlist (.zpl, which ill prob convert to .m3u if i have to). I'll need a player to handle my music and playlists via USB. Any recommendations?

Did you try Power Amp?
And I wouldn't search for sda but instead go to the source (/mnt/usb_drive or whatever it's called). It works fine from my thumb drive so I don't see why it wouldn't work my a HDD.

I did try Poweramp. In the select folders option, there are only selections for mnt/sdcard/xxx and mnt/external_SD/xxx. Since the hdd is formatted in ntfs, it is mounted as mnt/sda1, not mnt/USB_storage.
I could try having the hdd formatted as fat, but I have found the mnt/USB_storage to be very unreliable. It seems to need a reset very often in order to read the contents of a thumb drive, and also with the large amount of files, also seems to read them very slowly.

I bit the bullet and formatted my hdd to fat32. I used fat32formatter, nice and quick.
The a500 needed a reboot to read the files on the hdd, and I find disconnecting and re-connecting it, does require another re-boot to read again.
Poweramp and winamp both are no able to read the hdd, but took about 4 hours to scan the files and make a library from them.
I haven't added new music to the library, I'm really hoping that it won't need to re-scan all the files again. Fingers crossed.

Also looking for a solution to this, let, me know if anyone has a good organized music player.

I'm using Usb Mount All from the market which creates a symlink to mnt/sdcard/sda. All my apps can see and write on sda that way.
That's why I prefer Mount all over Drive mount.

Thanks bbivk, that app is exactly what I should have been using, it's so easy now.

media player won't recognise storage card

Hi
I have just bought a san disk 2gb mini sd card for my mini s and after a few teething problems I can put items onto it.
I thought brilliant so i loaded on 300 of my fav songs. For some reason windows media player when updating the library notices the files although it doesn't add them to the library so I can't play a list of songs I can play one and then what ever is in the library.
The library only adds from "my deivce" and not from the storage card.
Can someone help me as I really like my music and can't listen to it properly because of a fault.
If not can anyone suggest a music player that works on the mini s/wizard.
Yes people are having a problem with 2gb cards on the wizard - there seems to be a bug.
Some people find it works ok if over half full - is yours?
Second people reporting success after reformatting the card on the device (backup everything on the card before you do this) use storage tools or my fav sktools
Hope it works - i love my music too!
Microsft needs to pay for all the high blood pressure that Windows Mobile devices cause.
1)Don't format your 2GB card to FAT32. Use FAT. It appears the PPC is still living in the 80's. If you use FAT32 it might appear to work fine but everynow and then you'll get currupted files.
2) Get Windows Media Player 11. You can then happily disable the aweful media sync feature in activestink 4.x. WMP11 will recognize your card as long as your PPC is synced.
3) I don't have this problem in WMP11 but in WMP10 if your WMP in your PPC is open, it might not sync your new playlist even though it appears to be doing so.
It appears Bill and the boys at MS are taking mobile media seriously even though they are a decade late. But I'm optimistic
Does not really solve your problem as such, but Media Player is a real dog and a waste of time IMO. Get TCPMP for video (the best and free) and a good music player like Mort, GSplayer or Pocket Player.
I'm having the same problem. I'm using WMP11 and it does not see my 2 gig SD card. I used this set up before with WMP10 and it would always see my SDcard. Ant help on this would be great. It I just plug my sdcard directly into the computer then WMP11 sees it.
Thanks
Garth
Anyone success with 2G Card in FAT32 sync with MediaPlayer 11?
Same Problem
I have a 1GB miniSD card in my Cingular 8525, and windows mobile Media player fails to load any of the songs that are on the storage card into the media library. I CAN play any of the songs one at a time. It's just that the library won't load or recognize the files.
I've tried everything. I've selected "update libary" , I've sync with activesynk...
I don't think this is a size issue. I've tried a few files, I've tried many files.
I don't think this is a storage size issue, as you guys are having the problem with 2GB SD cards, and I'm having the problem with 1GB miniSD cards.
I think this is probably a Media player bug. Do any of the other media players support a library like function?
i have a 512mb card and i don't have WMP11 working either. i am starting to think that it is a activesyc 4.5 beta problem but now sure. also i noticed that my new contacts are not in outlook either. it says it has synced them but when i open outlook on my pc they are not there. oddly enough back to music i can sync music through yahoo music engine perfectly. it shows my storage card and my device.
I have the same problem. I'm using a Cingular 8525 with a 2GB micro sd card, WMM, and WM11. This worked for me: create a playlist in WM11 and sync to 8525. Then, using WMM, use the open file command under menu to find the file you created (mine is located in: file system/storage card/playlist) and open it as a playlist.
It didn't solve the real problem, but at least you can play more than one song at a time.
I hope this helps .
P.S.
I see little red asterisk on the storage card folders in WMM, what do they mean?

okay this is what I have tried with no success in both the test 3.3 rom and the cingular 3.3 rom.
i have deleted all those folders /music /msmdata /wdrm.
I have even formated(slow and fast) the SD card from sk tools, and I have gone into the windows registry(pc) and deleted all sync devices.
no matter what I do I cannot see my storage card in wmp11 in windows vista. on either my hermes or my wizard.
if anyone can help me out i would really appreciate it.
I'm the same, can't find my storage card anywhere! Help!
I had the same problem with my 2 gig corsair... What i did for mine to work for me is I deleted everything on the card than instead of just puting files on the card i made folders(my music, my videos, programs)... Sounds crazy but i haven't had problems ever since.

It works for me and I am quite sure it will work for all of you.

OMG! Thank you so very much Leblan. This worked for me too. I had to delete my music folder, so I lost all my sync music. But who cares, now wmp is reading my storage card again!
thank you
I have an 8525 that did the same thing. Here is what worked for me.
Remove the Micro-SD card. Open Media player and click on menu. Then click on Library. Click on menu again and select the "update Library". Let it run and find the updates. After it completes close Media Player and insert the SD card in the slot. Now open Media player again and click on Menu. Click on Library, click on menu again, click on "Update Library" and let it run. It should see the card files and add them to the library. After it completes open the menu again open the library and look for the Storage card. It should now show up with all of your songs. (mine has 346 songs and it found them all).
how to fix this problem.
On the storage card, delete the following file Storage Card\MSMETADATA\XMEMediaLibrary.mlb You may have to tap & hold in the File Manager window on a blank area and choose "Show All Files" in order to see this folder. If this XMEMedialibrary.mlb isnt in that folder, just delete the whole folder, that worked for me. Also delete the file: Mobile Device\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\XMEMediaLibrary.mlb

Playlists Disappear when SD Card Mounted

I just got my new Atrix and I like it so far, but the one thing I can't seem to fix is that all my playlists disappear when I mount the drive and use it in USB storage mode.
I tried one of those multi-mount apps, but it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have another workaround? I'm rooted.
I used my iPhone as my primary media player (in my car, at work, etc). I would like to use the Atrix that way too. I guess I could just never use it in USB storage mode, but there goes one of the benefits of the phone.
Just ran into the same issue this week. Not sure of a fix. I just had to resync the playlists using media monkey. Then it took Player Pro a good while to re-add my playlists and rebuild the library. Kind of a pain.
Yeah, I've just been using double twist to make playlists, because making them on the phone just have them be deleted is no fun.
I guess it's not horrible. Just a pain, like you said. My iPhone couldn't natively mount as a drive so, and the hacks to do it sucked. The original iPod could be used an external drive and keep your playlists, and you could sideload music. That was awesome.

[Q] Syncing music.

Hello all. This may not be the right forum but here goes. At one time I could use WMP11 to sync music to my sd cards, pro duo cards and thumb drives because it would recognize them as a device. Now they no longer show. At one time when I plugged the cards or drives into my laptop I would get a notification asking what I wanted to do with the files. Now nothing. Everything still shows up when I navigate to them through 'my computer'. Normally this would not be a problem as I could drag and drop my music files into a music folder on the drives. But, my whole music library is in WMA lossless format. Not Tf compatable. I have done a search on the internet and after reading many ideas it doesn't seem there are any answers. I do not feel like re-ripping my entire music collection if WMP11 can convert and sync in one step. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Rob
Well, after more research I have found how to set the 'Portable device enumerator service' back to automatic. Now I can't figure out how to get WMP11 to convert the lossless files to MP3 before they sync to the sd card. More research I guess.

What happens when you click on the files when viewing in NMI? What files are you trying to play? Have you verified that you can play the files directly from your nexus?
Maybe with the video player you are using it doesnt support the file you are trying to watch? Has worked for me so far, connecting SD card, flash drive and HDD.

Try StickMount https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=de
It works like a charm for me but unfortunatly you have to be rooted to use it. Also I think the N10 has problems dealing with NTFS out of the box so try FAT32 or ext3/4.
Good luck.
There are links on the StickMount playstore page to download files that allow full usage (r/w) of both exFAT and NTFS formatted volumes. The current version of StickMount works 100% for me.
Nexus Media Importer works great - no need to Root!

Nexus Media Importer (vrs 4.0.3 ) works perfectly for my N10 - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE ROOTED!! I've only used FAT32 USB sticks and it works as advertised and it's awesome Make sure you download the paid version ($2.95 or so CND). Expand the Overview in the Google Play Description by clicking MORE and there are youtube videos showing the proper process, it works great and I'm thrilled to get the extra space and watch movies right from the USB stick using MX Player or copy movies, pics, music etc. to internal storage if I want to. Excellent app - five stars! I will be trying a NTFS Formated stick so I can use > 4Gb files (mkv prob) but haven't yet. It does claim to handle NTFS formatted drives.

Fire TV Download Centre

I read that some users had success with the original Fire TV mounting an external hard drive and running nzbget mobile. Is this possible with the Amazon Fire TV 2?
I am interested in doing the following on a rooted Amazon Fire TV 2.
1. Mounting an external hard drive, ext4.
-How do I this? Can I mount a drive with adbFire? does this install a script to mount the drive every time the device boots? or I read that some users installed stickmount to mount drives. What should I use?
2. Install SAMBA
-Can this be done with adbFire? or how do i achieve this? to share the media on an external drive attached to the Fire TV 2.
3. Install nzbget mobile.
-Does this work for the Fire TV 2? Install from playstore? Sideload nzbget for android .apk?
4. Install python for android
-to run nzbget post-processing scripts
I am pretty new to the Fire TV customization so all guidance on how to do the above would be appreciated. I have currently rooted my device and have installed FireStarter and Kodi.
Thanks in advance.
great question(s)!
I hope someone has an answer for us
But from what I have read so far is that only USB flash drives and microSD cards work. However, I am hoping, like you say, there may be a work around.
For now I am using AirPin(Pro), which is doing the trick for streaming movies from my PC. Fyi, if you use this app, you don't need the "sending" app/program for your PC (maybe not). I also have a 1TB external connected to my PC that I am able to stream from, but AirPin won't find it via the app on the AFTV2, you'll have right click (PC) on whatever movie you want to stream, and select> "play to...". AirPin also will stream to my bluray in the other room simultaniously

Unrooted, it can read from any FAT32 formatted (not exFAT) portable drive as long as you provide external power to it via a Y cable or hub. Otherwise, it will only read from solid state media like USB sticks.
Reads my 2TB passport drive fine, no root required. You might need to hunt around for a tool to format that size drive in FAT32.
