Death - Continuum General

Oh my we have been moved to the Legacy and Low Activity area. The Death March continues.

Wow.... we haven't even been officially EOL'd by VZW yet....

I really don't like this...... Like, not at all.. We already don't get a lot of activity, this is just going to stunt us even more -__-
Weudel, may you please try working your amazing moderator powers and see if you can tell/convince the Gods to not kill us off until at least we are EOL'd please? :|

Yeah this is pretty much BS. There are still a few that post regularly and keep us going (Thanks trailblazer!). Now we are officialy put on the back burner by all sides. Awesome. F### VZW and their misplaced hatred for our phones...

Officially EOL'ed? Yeah, I think it's happening. My local retail store now has all Continuum, and Fascinate for that matter, accessories on their clearance rack. The upside of this? I got the Samsung OEM Car Cradle for $10. Ironically enough, there was a little sticker that said the audio jack that outputs through the USB port won't be functional until the 2.2 update...

Yeah I bought all those accessories too under the pretense that we would be getting the update and they would become functional. However I'm pretty sure that the Fascinate uses the same accessories and they are functional for them.
We just really need Froyo for our device (From Verizon or not) then we can start kicking up development. We have a lot of ground to make up and time is slowly ticking away..

Doubt Continuum accessories will fit Fascinate
I got both clearance accessories for continuum (car and home dock). Complete with 'this will work with 2.2' stickers. Since Continuum and Fascinate are slightly different shapes and sizes I would be surprised if Fascinate could plug into these docks. They are very form-fitting to the Continuum.
By the way, the audio-out does work for me with stock. I'm guessing some hands-free action might be missing but I haven't tried that. Though the volume through the car dock is way lower than if just plugged directly into the phone. Was disappointed by that since it was going to be nice to plug my phone into charger and fm-modulator with the dock. No dice yet. I'm hoping it behaves differently once I work up the courage to load my own 2.2 or if we actually get an official update.

i noticed all this on all the verizon stores i been to, all the continuums are on sale and accessories too, so i just bought most of accessories they had.

We may not have been 'officially' EOL'D, but for all intents and purposes, we have been. I think this thing was EOL'D from the launch date. The ticker is simply too new, and with it never being opened up to 3rd party developers, it was doomed from the start. Personally, I think that that was where Samsung's biggest screw up was. This phone probably would have done a LOT better if the ticker had been opened.

I just heard a commercial on the radio yesterday... Wal-Mart's wireless center is offering the Continuum for $28 w/ contract.
The bell is ringing. BUT! We have Froyo!

No pay day yet. This is Sammy's way of confessing they have been trying to do it their way instead of please the customer for too long.
It still remains to be seen what they actually DO about it.
We all know what pathway good intentions paved =]
The bottom line is until sammy gets the carriers in line, and froyo gets released before its 1st birthday! People will rant with good reason. Btw gingerbread has been out for like 3 months! We have a top of the line device running an os from 2009. Honestly I love the hardware but I can't handle this bad os support.

Whoever even buys another Samsung flagship phone with the belief that they learned their lesson deserves what they are going to get and shouldn't complain anymore. If you haven't realized what their intent is, which is maximum profit with the least effort, while actually making it seem like they kind of care with PR rep's that promise things that they cant' actually commit to. INB4C
My friend asked me what phone he should buy, and looked at the Galaxy S2 and the Motorola Atrix. It was a no brainer which phone was the winner. Go Atrix! Pre-ordered and waiting! He was waiting for a nice dual core phone, but after the mess he has heard from me with Samsung, he said he definitely doesn't want to go through the same thing. To be honest, this crap is making me sick to my stomach just talking about anymore, cause we've all been crapped on, and it doesn't feel nice.
I'm not surprised in the least that Samsung would think that this meaningless gesture would diffuse this issue, but I'm honestly SHOCKED that "Xda leaders" would put any thought into this. I suspect they're making money off this, somehow.
This site has lost its way badly.
At least it's a start and shows Samsung at least recognizes they've pissed off some people. It's better than what they've been doing which has been a whole lot of nothing.

I HEARD... Samsung sent John to distract attention from the fact that they are currently in hostage negotiations with Sprint, the suitcase full of cash is in transit, and Noobnl has the code to unlock it, but he refuses to share it with anyone because he only cares about glory, so he is meeting John at sxsw to listen to crappy emo music and make the handoff. And THEN Sprint will begin work on adding SprintID and a new, improved, constant Nascar streaming app, which can in no way be turned off. Oh, and HTC assassins are waiting there to shoot Noob so that they can still claim that the EVO is the flagship phone, and artificially make supply of the phone backordered to give the impression to the common consumer that it is not a giant POS. Did I miss anything?

Careful....there's many a self-demonstrated poster in these forums that will actually, seriously, believe that too. *g*
Here's to hoping open exchange of dialogue will soon become exchange of sources and binaries!
Honestly, this was my first Samsung phone in about ten years is so far, it's my last.
It's not the lack of Froyo, this is just a simple annoyance. What killed it is GPS that works like crap, barely functioning accelorometer, retarded hardcoded GPS accuracy refusal to do anything about these two issues. I have a bad feeling that the last bug isn't a bug at all, but an attempt to cover up poorly functioning GPS on this phone. If I was Colbert, I'd wag my finger at them.

Hi I'm samsungjohn, just wanted to let you guys know that I'm just using this pr to gain rank within the amsung corporation. I figured if I was able to convince everyone to stick with samsung and to keep buying samsung, that I will be soon promoted. In reality I am jus doing this for a job. I don't even own a samsung phone. I own an LG, but thank you for listening to me and allowing me to pull your strings....Public Actions speak louder than words....oh and by the way. The Truth Is What You Make It, and Who You get To Believe In It.
No worries I'm just poking fun at this all. If people have gotten offended by it then the truth lies within the offended. Lol
now if Samsung were to really/officially be changing fo the people they would skip over froyo and be the first to update every galaxy s series to gingerbread. Or at least get froyo out and gingerbread soon after.
And powers at be, feel free to delete or modify this if you like. I've already gotten past the point of anger, and this whole samsung update bs is just a joke to me now. Samsung makes great dumb phones but a smart phone is just isn't worth it.
Too late, too slow, too little.
Samsung unfortunately is still working on the feature-phone timelines. What they (and most other android phone makers, with the possible exception of HTC) seem to not quite understand is that these smartphones are true computers now, and need to be treated as such. The OS is an integral part of phone, perhaps the most important part, and people will not tolerate a company that refuses to update an OS that both has critical bugs (and yes, the GPS bug is a CRITICAL bug), and appears incapable of utilizing the hardware it's surrounded by. It's like Microsoft refusing to repair a Windows bug that kept all printers only printing in black and white. It's almost worse that the hardware is so good, and is being crippled by a poorly customized OS (like tantalus, nearby but unreachable relief is far worse than no possibility of relief at all).
It's going to take a really big step to mollify those that have been burned by this generation of samsung's smartphones. Samsung, if your listening. You've pissed off many of your most important phone buyers. These are the people who less tech-savvy people ask for advice on phones, and for every 1 XDA member offended by your apparent lack of desire to properly support your equipment, you probably lose at least 10 referral sales to companies like HTC.
My recommendation, at least open the source code for the devs to look at, and if you're having software quality problems (and that's the reason you can't get froyo out the door), invite some of the best devs to take a look at the proprietary modules that you're having problems with. Work with the community and you may maintain some degree of support for your next generation of phones. But keep trying to astroturf them, or worse yet, pull a Behold 2 on them, and watch out as your current market lead could easily change next generation.

Hello,

Yes, Samsung is creating Froyo builds for our phone and sending them to Verizon just for fun, and neither have any intention of ever releasing it. Get real, they may be stupid, but they would never put resources into something that's never getting released.

I won't say never, but.......
I bought my device with the OS it had, I don't really feel that I am owed anything else. BUT, The GPS was a fail on mine until I loaded the leaked 2.2 roms. It would take many minutes to lock, if it ever did lock.
This phone charges at about a 300ma rate on USB, and at about a 600ma rate on a high rate charger. Using it in a car as a GPS (bright screen, constant processing) consumes closer to 1000ma. So, while on charge in the car as a GPS, your battery is going dead. That is a failed hardware design.
After using the phone for a time again as a GPS in the car, the buttons (back, home etc.) start blinking and any apps close down. The phone becomes worthless. I need to unplug it, pull the battery and let it cool off for 10 minutes or so before it is useable. VZW and Samsung say 'don't use it like that!'. What? My previous HTC phone would do this for days on end. More hardware fail.
Needless to say, I am not overly impressed with the Samsung hardware or the software. Like I said, I'm not going to say 'never', but this is wearing thin...........
I'm a little pissed because when I bought the phone from verizon I asked the rep if if had 2.2. She said, "no all our phones ship with 2.1 but are all have froyo updates that you can do from home." We should all get free thunderbolts for our troubles.

+1 for free Thunderbolts, although I have my eye on that new LG Optimus duel core.
It's telling that even the rumors have died down. A couple months ago searching for "fascinate froyo" would pull up speculation and rumors galore. Now, nothing pertinent. This is long past a fail.
I'll decide what phone to get next based on what there is at the time. But both Samsung and Verizon will be at substantial disadvantages in the comparison.
OK now that sammy said so here it has to be soon NOTthey have said that it would be coming for seven months. We already have froyo, and ton of roms
I know we have Froyo already, but how about a version that doesn't have battery destroying wakelocks? I am still looking forward to an official release that will hopefully be less buggy than the Froyo we have now.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
At this point Froyo is meaningless, as it's been seven months since it was promised to be out "very soon." Having source would be great, but it's too late for Samsung; epic fail. They had better redeem themselves with a surprise (and quick...as in ACTUALLY QUICK) Gingerbread release instead of Froyo, otherwise they will lose a ton of customers, including me.
With Samsung, it appears to be one jerk job after another. By the time they roll out 2.2, a lot of us will be ready for another upgrade, and guess what, we're going to think long and hard about buying another Samsung product. I like my Fascinate, but only because we have the leaked 2.2. If I was still on 2.1, I'd most likely be using a different phone by now.

You said it! Heck, we'll all probably be on different phones by the time Samsung releases Froyo, because our TWO YEAR contracts will be up by then.
We want a bloated Froyo so that we can get source code! That's what has been holding us back with development! I'm so sick of all these empty promises. "You'll get Froyo in September. No wait, November." "Er, we meant, before the end of 2010!" And as 2011 began, "it's coming soon!" 3 months later, it's the same empty promise of soon, so they send John to post here and attempt to keep us at bay. Samsung can shove it. It's completely unacceptable, and I am so tempted to submit this to the Better Business Bureau. We can't even use accessories that we purchased a long time ago, because we still don't have 2.2. This phone should go EOL and we should get free Tbolts, as someone said earlier. These are unacceptable practices, and I'm pissed about it. I don't know how Samsung is getting away with it.

Is the Atrix that Bad?

This is the phone I was waiting to get. Received good reviews at majority of sites.
But reading about all the nightmares on every forums, all the bugs, everyone returning/exchanging it,etc.
I played with one at store for over an hour and it seemed very quick with not too many problems. I liked but its not enough time to see all the problems.
The Bell store here is selling it for $0 now on a contract. That's how desperate they are to get rid of it.
So in 10 days the price was already chopped twice.
Am I really going to have to go thru 5 units to find a decent working one?
I can live with a locked bootloader for now but everyday a new issue seems to be coming up.
It seems like this phone is a year away from being done/updated.
What are the main problems/defects I should check on before exchanging for another to make sure I'm not stuck with a crappy model.
Thanks.
Wished Motorola would get their heads out their asses with all their products.
Come out with something good then they do everything they can to **** it up somehow. You can tell them you'll sell millions of their crappy stock and they still would not unlock the bootloader. That's how seriously stupid they are.

I have had ZERO problems with my phone out of the box. Same goes for 2 other people I know personally.
One just doesn't like Blur.
My brother used it as his primary computer since he got it and can't stop extolling the virtues of Webtop.
He's an IT professional and coordinated a 13+ site migration from one network to another ALL from the Laptop dock.
Some of the sites he was at didn't have wifi so he was using webtop over AT&T for his ONLY connection.
Said he spent more time trouble shooting his laptop the one day he forgot the charger for the Laptop Dock then he spent troubleshooting the phone or laptop dock for the entire 2 weeks.
If citrix is a big part of your life this phone could revolutionize your life.
No problems here. I haven't experienced any bugs except for the touch screen wigging out after a 12 second hold in one place.
It is a little disconcerting that Bell has decided to drop the price only a few weeks into launch. I hope the community stays strong because I intend on keeping it.
Ditto for me -- I'm using an unlocked AT&T version on Rogers network in Canada --- absolutely LOVE the phone. Came from a Galaxy-S, Captivate, and iPhone 4 before that.
This is the best one by far, and the best android implementation so far for me.
$0 on contract!?! holy ****. just get it!

andy2na and captaincanada84 are right, some people will ***** just to *****. With that said, I have done my fair share of "complaining" but it's based on my opinion. You really can't go to a forum and ask people if you should buy something because you are going to get both sides of the fence. Just browse the forum and pay attention to what people are praising about and what people are complaining about and try to decide from that. It's really going to come down to YOUR preference.
I love my atrix.
My only problem is the facebook contact sync because of moto blur, I am having some issues with it not updating my contacts pictures.
Battery life is awesome I am sometimes in disbelief how long the battery lasts 1 day + with everything on and actually using the phone which is a must..
My phone doesn't randomly reboot I don't know about other people.
As for the locked bootloader I'm not in a rush. I have launcher pro and root so thats all I need.
Previous phones. G1, Nexus one, Dell Streak.
Dude what Bell store is that? It's still $69.95 on the Bell site.
You just need to remember that nobody goes to a forum to state that everything is working perfectly, they only post when they have a problem. So, you have to keep that in mind.
I've been running my Atrix since it was first released and it's been very stable. My only issue is it seems to not like my AT&T microcell too much. I get dropped connections when on my microcell. Works fine eveywhere else. It's a huge improvement over my Nexus 1.
Also think about how many people are using the phone that don't read forums... So far I am extremely happy with this phone. I usually hate upgrading because there is always another phone better right around the corner, but you'll find yourself waiting forever in that case. My only dislike is the facebook integration in blur breaking contact syncing.

Yes, please tell. I know a lot of people looking for an Atrix right now and would kill for that. If I weren't on a great retention rate plan with Rogers I'd get that in a heartbeat.
Thanks for replies everyone.
I think a lot of the negativity is people trying to trash a new device or envy. Plus it gets popular to trash any locked phone these days.
I've been waiting to get this phone since it was announced. The 4" screen seems perfect in size. Had no problem looking at the pentile graphics.
Its just scary to see the price drop so fast, it rarely happens here in Canada unless something is a super flop like the Samsung Tab, idk.
But I'm mostly going to get it in a few days and hopefully there's a good future with it and developers on here. Always learn something new. Some people are just to lazy to play around with the phone to get the max out of it.
How is the overheating? It seemed rather warm at the store.

Yea I asked Bell why the price drop to $69.95 and they said "because we like to give our customers a discount", which is total BS, but it's not like they're going to flat out tell me the device is a flop.
If you want to pick it up I would suggest getting it soon because according to the Bell reps I talked to the sale ends on March 31st.

Patience All devices are judged pretty harshly at the beginning.. You just got to reap from the benefits with a slashed price!

Its hard to believe they'll put it back to the original price after the "sale" with all the new other smartphones coming but who knows.
More worried about Bell taking forever with updates. This with 2.3 and then 2.4 will just scream.
i love this phone to death.
best phone i have ever had.
The ability to turn into a PC is the biggest plus. This phone has so much potential. Honestly what motorola does with the bootloader and such sucks, but so long as we can at least root/sideload, personally, I am completely fine with that.
Motorola also stated that every one of their phones in the future will have webtop. So I will be sticking with motorola android phones (specially once Tegra 3D comes out) for a while until a better company has a similar PC like feature embedded on the phone. Can't go wrong with the powerful atrix! Emulators and games run SO smooth... love it.

Why worry about this when you see things progressing? You're wasting your time, watch development and you will be happier than you would be with stock froyo anyway.
I see things progressing because off our devs, not because of verizon or samsung. I'm tired of big business getting away with anything they want. I get your point, but I'm still trying to get answers.

Quite frankly, no one will care about a Facebook page. Even if everyone on XDA with a Fascinate liked it, it still wouldn't be anywhere near an impressive number.
And Verizon/Samsung haven't really 'lied' to us (not counting their lower level reps, but no one should be trusting them anyways), they've never officially promised any sort of release date AFAIK... meaning long as they eventually release it, they'll have kept their promise (things like 'soon' are totally subjective, which is why they say them).
Verizon/Samsung have, simply put, just given us terrible support. We're low priority for them- we're basically an offbrand (i.e. not a Droid) phone, with a relatively small userbase. We're small fish in a big sea. Taken on top of Verizon & Samsungs already poor support, it really shouldn't be a surprise to us that we're still waiting for Froyo (unfortunately that's a lot easier to realize in retrospect... if I'd realized it back then, I'd have likely gone with the Incredible).
It is so sad that we are considered "not a droid". The one thing that attracted me to my Fascinate was the nice hardware, sweet screen, and the Android OS. I don't know what I would do without the devs around here. It's a shame that we have been swept under the rug by Samsung and VZW.

Agreed, but if we never take any action, the corportations will continue as usual and we will get even less actions. Corporations already run this country. Its not we the people anymore, its whatever corporate america buys in our congress.
Just like it! Is that a lot to ask?
Just vote with your wallet and don't buy samsung phones anymore.
Also, always make it a habite to tell anyone shopping for a phone about how bad samsung is and why they shouldn't buy a samsung phone.
It's amazing how many people are complaining about froyo, yet they get really excited when they hear about the Galaxy S 2 that's coming out soon!!!!

I will NEVER buy another samsung phone, Eff the Galaxy S2. It's too bad, the fascinate has some great qualities, but I refuse to give money to someone who doesn't care. I was burnt once, not gonna get me again. I'm debating if I leave Verizon, quite honestly.
I completely agree with you about voting with your wallet!
I will always argue that you should make your decisions based on the hardware. Not the software, not the manufacturer, not the carrier. Hardware will always win out, and Samsung makes great hardware.

I used to say the same thing, based upon past experience with numerous WinMo phones.
I no longer agree. Not in the least. I had a Samsung WinMo, but my last two WinMo phones were HTC. Compared to this Samsung.....
a) The Samsung pulls 300ma max from the PC USB port. That is fine. It only pulls 650ma max from a 5 volt adapter. The phone can consume well over 650ma to operate as a car GPS (screen bright, downloading map data, etc). So, the battery can rather quickly die even plugged into a high rate charger in the car. I have never seen an HTC phone do that. If the operating current goes up, the HTC pulls more current from the charger. Usually up to about 1 amp. So if it is plugged into a high rate charger, the HTC phones will never drain the battery even in the worst conditions. Charge rate FAIL.
b) In total darkness, it is too bright. In bright sun, it is too dim. You can go to manual mode, and adjust to a good level, but that misses the point of having the AUTO sensor... Auto brightness adjust FAIL.
c) On my phone, when used for a long while on charge at high brightness (car again), the four bottom buttons appear to be pressed randomly. The phone becomes a worthless brick. According to Verizon, this is fairly normal for the generated heat and there isn't anything I can do but not use it when it is charging. FAIL button sensor sensitivity. (though I believe this is just my phone being defective, and I can't get it fixed)
d) Charge plug. Who designed that piece of garbage. Pretty much every plug I have, and I have a lot of them, had to be cut up in the front side to allow it to fully seat in the Samsung jack. FAIL plug placement.
e) No notification LED. What??? FAIL.
f) Minor items like the mediocre loudspeaker placement, no camera button, and slippery back cover add up to another FAIL IMHO.
I used to think highly of Samsung devices from my past experience. This device has tarnished that image. I would only recommend this phone to someone because I thought they might want to buy this one that I have.
So, I sent an email to verizon, and this is what I got....
Good afternoon Mr. ****,
Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. My name is Nicholas and resolving your issue is my top priority. I sincerely apologize that you are dissatisfied with the new froyo software update not being available for the Samsung Fascinate. I can recognize the importance in having the newest, most sophisticated software when purchasing new equipment. Despite all, I'm eager to assist with all of your concerns today.
Mr. *****, I can understand your urgency in regards to this matter. However, before new software is released, it must be approved by the manufacturer ( Samsung ) and Verizon Wireless. Therefore, based on this process I'm unable to provide a definitive answer as to when the froyo software update will be available for the Fascinate. This information is not readily available for the public. Nonetheless, if or when it becomes available you will receive a text on the handset prompting you to update your phone.
Additionally, based on your inconvenience I've issued a $ 50.00 courtesy credit on the account. The total credit amount of ( $ 50.00) , will appear on your next billing statement, ( Apr. 26, 2011 ), and will include an additional adjustment for taxes if applicable. You can check your revised balance immediately by dialing from you wireless device, # BAL and the SEND button. You will be connected with an automated system which will relay your account balance as a free text message to your wireless phone. You may also continue to listen and follow the voice prompts to receive the information airtime-free. You will be provided with the amount and date of your most recent payment, as well as your current balance due.
Lastly, I am also pleased to offer you the option of obtaining a new device with the software update currently, if it doesn't become available for the Fascinate. This offer will not extend your contract nor upgrade date. If you wish to take advantage of this option, you may contact me directly at ( 803 ) 231 - 1825 / Mon - Fri / 2:30pm. - 11:00pm. For your added convenience, below I've listed a link that includes our available device line - up. I hope you find this information to be beneficial:
So it does pay to continue to fight the good fight! I suggest you ALL email verizon and let them know your unhappy!!!
My old Samsung dumb-phone was wonderful. I took crap care of it, and it took a beating (I'd frequently toss it), I'd never give a single concern for maintaining the battery, it got great signal pretty much everywhere (when I went to the woods with a bunch of people, the people on AT&T would have a paper weight, the other people on Verizon would have occasional signal, and I'd have consistent, albeit poor, signal), and I'd easily go a week on a charge.
Occasionally I'd get hit by a software bug, like once ever several months, but over the several years I had the phone (5+ I think?), those were quite few in number.
My Fascinate, on the other hand, other than the screen the hardware seems moderate at best. The processor/GPU don't matter a lot long as they're at least as good as what 'most people' have, since generally programs are designed to be used on the more common phones. Now the GPU could have been leveraged on Gingerbread, but, we don't really have Gingerbread, although people like PK are working on it.
There's also 'only' 384 MBs of usable RAM in the phone, meaning less apps can be kept asleep in the background, causing apps to have to save their state & be restarted more often (IIRC, all the other Galaxy S phones have 512 usable!).
Then there's the GPS. It was flat out broken when Samsung released this phone, and I still have a horrible GPS- the other day it took ~25 minutes for the GPS to lock (even after downloading AGPS data, and getting the no help that cellular triangulation and wifi location services provides), just in time for us to miss the turn to our destination! (resulting in everyone agreeing that my phone "sucked").
No notification LED... we've had to work around that with 'No LED' and BLN- hardly ideal solutions... more like clever hacks. 802.11N also doesn't support the 5Ghz band, apparently... lovely. The battery life is also nothing to write home about. And there's quite a number of other shortcomings with this phone's hardware.
Is the Fascinate's hardware horrible? No, with the exception of the screen (which is quite good), most of it's around par, some above, some below. But the Fascinate's problem is it's crippled by horrible software! Our Devs will fix that, you say? So how's that CM7 working for you? MIUI? AOSP? Your options, at this point, are either use a hacked up Samsung ROM, or lose various hardware support. Is it because our devs suck? Hell no, they've long since shown they're damn good at what they do- but even so they can only do so much at a time. Take the best hardware in the world, but put **** software on it, and you've got ****. Bad software will ruin any hardware.
Good software on bad hardware, though, can at least make the hardware bearable. Next time, I'm picking my phone based off which actually has a fully custom ROMs ported to it, like MIUI or CyanogenMod- that should be a good indicator of how good the software support should be- then I'll go by hardware.
Edit: New post while I was writing... Does "obtaining a new device" mean, "trade in for a phone with Froyo"? If so... that's quite surprising, and it'd be interesting exactly what phones are available for that. Although, at this point, I just feel like taking it until my renewal comes around- all the phones are going to be far superior by then, and, with any luck, this sort of BS will have been reined in by Google.
Im going to call tomorrow and see what that means....but its a start. 50 bucks off my bill is nice!

but look at the specs on the galaxy S2, at least here in america its gonna have the samsung Exynos chip that is a 1.2 Ghz Dual Core, 1 GB of RAM a super AMOLED+ screen and does FULL HD VIDEO </Sarcasm>
sounds nice but knowing samsung it won't receive any support i've only had this phone since thursday and i really, really don't like it and wish that even with the locked bootloader i had gone with the droid X simply because i'd like to have gingerbread instead of eclair, though putting the miui alpha on it sorta make the fascinate worth while

Why am I still waiting for my fascinate to be updated to froyo? All the other galaxy S phones have received it, Samsung has given you the code, now I am curious as to why we still don't have it. I was told when I purchased the phone that it would be 'soon'. I did a lot of research and am tired of being lied to by your company. Your contract states that I can't lie to you, but your are not held responsible for what an agent tells me. WTF is that?? You will probably loose my business when my contract is up, and maybe even before if I can sell this phone. Why won't you take care of your existing customers? Too busy trying to sell 4G when its not even in my area. I was told 'soon' about that too! I understand that the email I will get will say Im sorry for the delay, but we are working hard at it....BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. While it's very true that our devs are to be applauded for their efforts, the very reason that we have working Froyo roms like SuperClean (aside from jt's AOSP, which still is lacking a few features) is because of leaked builds from Samsung/Verizon. Our devs did not make those, only released them and cleaned them up a bit. We have three leaked builds total now, so there is no longer any basis upon which to claim that the official update will not be released. They would not be putting that much work into builds for this phone if they did not intend to release it once it's complete. Also, I think we should be grateful that they are taking the time to properly fix issues like GPS, which the new radio does, instead of rushing a new release with more bugs.
I too am disappointed at the time it's taking for them to get this release out, but it is clearly coming, and soon, if the last leak is any evidence at all, so I think we all just need to remain patient for a little bit longer. However, I do have one question. We have had working Froyo roms here for quite some time now. If you're posting here on XDA, I can only assume you're interested in modifying your phone, as opposed to leaving it stock, since that is, after all, what XDA is all about. If that is true, why are you still complaining about the lack of official release? Just install SuperClean or your rom of choice and move on.

3.1 coming this month

http://gigaom.com/mobile/acers-a500-is-a-hefty-honeycomb-tablet-on-a-budget/'
Read complete post....great news!!
As I’ve noted in prior Google tablet reviews, Honeycomb isn’t quite ready for prime-time. Acer included version 3.0.1 on the A500 because Google released Honeycomb 3.1 after the tablet launched; just last week at Google I/O. However, Acer representatives tell me that the A500 is expected to see the updated software by the end of May.
Great news, if true.
I hope Acer heard us and with this comes an unlocked bootloader!! =D
thisismynext.com (made up of ex-engadget writers) claims the update is confirmed to be coming in early june for both acer and asus tablets by their respective companies. Either way the update will be soon.
Good to hear. But wasn't that already known? I seem to recall reading that 3.1 would be rolled out around June. Maybe I'm mistaken.
acer has made it clear there would be an update by june 2011, atleast in all their documentation and websites.. didn't say specifically 3.1...
however one note that people seem to be overlooking is that acer said there will be an update PRIOR to 3.1 coming sooner for our lovely devices. hopefully fixes some of the meh aspects of the tablet

Ah that sounds about right. Thanks for clarifying.
Nice!!!
Hope it really boost up the user experience!...and of course...they start developing apps...and og course we can now have a tablet section in the market, and of course that I can finally buy apps in the market...and of course....gps gets fixed....and of course Youtube app wont buffer for ever and ever...
COOL NEWS!!!
Dis make me happy!
Makes me hopeful but I'll really believe it when I can actually download the update and I hear from others that it isn't bricking their devices

Captivate owner?
Per engadget, this is confirmed that Acer is planning on releasing tablets with 3.1 next month, which may mean they want to role out the updates sooner, and use us as test subjects?
I am looking forward to see what enhancements we can expect, given that we already have some USB host functionality.
3.1 inclusion
I wonder if the 3.1 update will included a longer charging cord...
I wonder if 3.1 update will also include updates to improve wifi in low signal areas and especially fix the issue where the A500 comes out of sleep mode. I have a second A500 and the wake out of sleep mode is worse. It does it regardless if wifi on or off and what apps are running in the background.
It is now so bad that when it does wake up unprovoked, it does not go back to sleep, so the display stays on all the time, unless I press the power button. Tried restarting the device with same results. Sleep mode is not working correctly on the two A500s I have owned, but this one seems much worse. I have zapped apps and turned all background data- same result, none the less.
Update:
It is going back to Best Buy tomorrow and I will wait to see if Acer fixes at least the sleep mode issue. Two units same problems.I guess I am a glutton for punishment, since I like the A500 enough to get another one when 3.1 is released. Hopefully third will be the charm. I use the USB host function too much to not have it and do not want a netbook sized device for the function.

I think I read someone here did that.
Been mulling it over myself.
I'll be honest though, it only gets charged when I go to bed but still...
funny but sad for me. As if the cord wasn't short enough, Saturday my cat chewed the cord and bit out about a 4" section. I was able to get it back together and extend it. Still pissed though.

Most likely I'll just find a matching voltage and same or higher amperage adapter with the same plug on it. Provided that is possible at least. My dream has been to make a large surge protector sized device with maybe 10-20 small universal plugs on it. Each with a dial or something to set voltage. You can then plug the universal end of a cable with a specific end into it for each device and dial the voltage you need. Not sure if total amperage would be per port of for the whole device, but it'd get rid of all the damn wall warts. Add a fan etc for cooling, and voila. Even battery back the ***** if you wanted. It'd sorta be like the universal laptop chargers, but for smaller loads. Routers, hubs, home NAS etc.
you should bring that idea to the market and get rich. And from that money you should buy-out acer for the bootloader
