stock 2.3.4 or go launcher/adw/etc. - Atrix 4G General

I've put off re-installing go launcher ex for now to give the 2.3.4 stock launcher a try. So far it's very nice and I don't see any significant functional drawbacks. The stock launcher is not as flashy with transition animations, but I'm ok with that if it means running fewer resources. Is anyone else using the stock launcher, find anything that's not so great?

Totally agree. I just installed fancy widgets because I am not a big fan of the blur widgets; everything else is stock and I am very satisfied.

I used it for a while but it lagged like crazy. I'm sticking with Launcher Pro/Go Launcher EX/ADW EX.

The stock launcher for me was laggy. I'm using Go Launcher EX and it's much smoother even with many widgets.

Using ADW EX here and it runs smoothly on GB.

can you hide apps in the list on the stock launcher? that's the biggest reason i ditched it for go launcher. also i liked the page by page horizontal app view better.

With the stock launcher you can create groups, which displays selected apps for the entire page of apps. I think it's better the go launcher's folder function, which only shows apps in a sub-panel. Something like only 4x4 apps at a time I think.
The vertical app view is not too bad, I do miss the horizontal view from go launcher some. With the stock vertical app view it's nice that you can scroll only one or more rows of apps at a time vs and entire page on go launcher.
still deciding though

Stock Homescreen or Launcher Pro/AWD?

Just curious to know if using LP/AWD launchers instead of the stock 2.3 home screens causes any hiccups/lags? Or does it run even better?
How many of you have opted to use LP/AWD, instead of stock?

Using launcher pro at the mo without any issues. Nice and smooth.
I'm using launcher pro. It's just as smooth as the stock launcher, and I prefer the 4 dock shortcuts to the the 2 in the stock.
There is an issue with the 3D app drawer, it doesn't work properly, so I had to turn off that feature. I'm sure the dev will update for Gingerbread soon enough. 3D drawer is cool, but not a deal breaker for me.
LauncherPro Plus always.

Using ADW Launcher. I think I might go back to stock though because I love the new app drawer effects and whatnot.
Launcher pro plus, can't beat its widgets

Using LP, needed/wanted the 7 screens.
Stock

No problems for me. I prefer the options of launcher pro.

Launcher Pro Plus for the awesome Widgets, five column launcher, and the four app dock bar. I also like the sliding additional docks more than ADWs flip up one.

Do you guys using Launcher Pro have the 3D app drawer bug? (Basically you can't slow scroll, only flick scroll).

Yea, there's a bug, you'll have to wait til the dev updates it if you want to use the 3d drawer. Personally, I use the regular drawer. LauncherPro Plus all the way, great app.

Yes, that's what I'm doing. I posted a bug report on the dev's website several days ago, but no response from him yet. I'm patient, though.
When people were reporting here "using launcher pro with no problems" I thought they might have meant including the 3D app drawer.
All my phones ever get is Launcher Pro Plus!

I was really hoping to remain stock Android, but I've caved and switched over to AWD. Gingerbread is chalk full of glitches - for example, sometimes when attempting to move icon apps on home screens, they'll automatically snap back into place, and/or sometimes disappear altogether without having gone anywhere near the trash can. AWD does not have this problem whatsoever. There are a slew of other odd glitches with GB. I hope 2.3.2 addresses some of these bugs.
I made the switch to ADW EX from LPP. I like how ADW handles the icon labels more, and the transition effects are sweet.
I'm probably going with Launcher Pro, but Santa FedEx hasn't shown up yet with my new toy.
I got used to LP very quickly, after being rudely hit about the head with that wonderful TouchWiz. I might try out the stock launcher just for s&g, but I suspect I will need more than 5 home screens. I haven't found any reason to go for LP Pro yet.
I use ADW, may upgrade to ADW EX once it's got a bit more version history to prove it's worth the cash. I'm not zealously defensive of any particular launcher, though. Some people like stock, some people like Launcher Pro, some people like ADW, et cetera.
If you're not totally happy with what came on your phone, shop around! Try out some alternatives and find one that you enjoy using. Since we're talking entirely about UI here, you, the user, are the one in the best position to make the choice. ADW.Launcher and Launcher Pro are both free. Their paid versions add features, but you should be able to tell whether you like them or not from the free ones. It's not really important what other people use, what you should use is the one you like.

[Q] What do you guys think is the best home app?

what do you guys think is the best home app? please tell me what you use and what you like from them
Wrong section, this belongs in Themes & Apps.
There are already too many threads on this, please use search next time.
So far the 2 favorites seem to be ADW and Launcher Pro, each has their pros and cons.
ah ok... sorry those are the ones im debating over...
I prefer Launcher Pro for it's speed and new widget skinning, but ADW is nice for dock customization and theming.
Depends on the person, really.
well i am using launcherpro right now not paid version and the only things that i would think of updating for would be resizing and the launcherpro widgets... but i looked at them right now and i dont think i will ever use any of those widgets
I use LP Sense UI.
Heavily modified LauncherPro Plus mod that looks and acts identical to Sense.

I've been using Zeam Launcher the past few days and am VERY pleased with it.
I just recently started using launcher 7. It's fast, stable and handles live wallpapers like a dream. Widgets even work. It's like a more customizable and functional wp7 ui. Ms should be made this is out lol the devs pooped on they're version.

Been using GO launcer recently really like it even tho I have launcher pro paid
Used to love Launcher Pro until I tried Go Launcher.
My vote goes for Go Launcher w/ Folder Organizer.
I have paid LP, Adw EX and tried SPB, Regina and Zeam. I really like ADW EX and it seems to use less memory compared to LP. My phone doesnt like Zeam at all, its a memory hog on my Epic. SPB was disappointing, it doesnt do anything better then adw or lp; same thing with Regina. Overall my favorite at the moment is Launcher Pro (paid), it seems slightly smoother animaton wise compared to adw.
GO launcher EX is my new choice because you can customize the home screens on the fly. You can add or delete screens and change the order easily. You cannot do this in Launcher pro. Go also has tabs in the app drawer which includes a task killer. IMHO it combines all the best features from both.
I liked the go launcher until it kept resetting my screens, and always setting them back up pissed me off...
Been on zeam for a while now, liking it a lot, no issues thus far
Edit: that was on my old epic though, perhaps my new one will play nicer
+1 on GO Launcher EX
Smoothest launcher, very customizeable and free.

After using Zeam, Launcher7, LauncherPro, and Adw...I'm going with ADW. Its fast, reliable and smooth. Sexy dockbar with is customizable as is everything else about it. Its my personal favorite.

Either LauncherPro Plus or ADW EX. I paid for both and can't really decide so I use both of them

I had some similar issues with Go Launcher EX, but they updated it several weeks ago and it's been rock solid since.
I've got to give a huge +1 to Go Launcher for one reason - the app drawer customization. Has extra "tabs" for recent apps and running tasks, but most importantly it has the ability to create your own folders for organization. I've got folders for media apps (gallery, movie players, music players, etc), games, finance, and system tools. So much easier to find things and lets me keep my home screens clutter free.
LauncherPro, because their widgets are hard to beat. The facebook widget is better than anything else I could find, and now that they added custom skinning they are even better.

{Q} good launcher with low memory consumption?

Im currently running the latest nightly of cm7 and glitch kernel. Im not using the adw launcher. Ive always used euegene373 gingerbread launcher. I know the launcher is older, im just wondering if there is anything else i should be looking at? I like the simplicity of eugenes launcher thats why i always stuck with it

try go launcher, its absolutely amazing.
go launcher is cool, but its a bit heavy. runs kind of sluggish at times. check out zeam if you want quick, no frills, lightweight launcher.
+1 for Zeam
The gestures are a pretty cool plus as well as the light, snappy launcher
Low consumption Zeam but u can go in launcher pro an change memory to low an for coolness an looks go launcher but gets kind of slow launcher pro is mix of both

Every time I download and flash a new ROM, I get a different launcher, and every time I try a new launcher, I end up returning to the Zeam Launcher. Rarely uses more than 10mb of RAM, and has several excellent features such as swipe gestures for opening apps, bringing down notifications, opening the dialer, etc, as well as the standard array of goodies.
+1 for Zeam Launcher, definitely.
Install them all and use launcher switcher until you find one you like

Works fine for me! Best launcher, most configurable.
Any screenshots of this 3D drawer?
I never have any issues with launchers but go launcher has never been fluid for me. This goes back to my samsung vibrant and the homescreens switch smooth but menu is choppy. I still use it everyday though lol.

I have tried most launchers, Go launcher Ex is the best in my opinion. I actually thought that touchwiz was based on it.
I think all laucher always decrease battery life!
So where's the download? Or is it inside the new GO launcher beta?
Honestly, I tried go launcher and it seemed good till all my widgets were in place. Launcherpro and adw ex are the only two that can handle my setup and remain completely smooth in performance. Eventually I found adw ex to be the better of the two, though it redraws more often than launcherpro did.

Used adw ex pro for long enough, then switched to launcher pro, i know the insides and outs of both, on go launcher now and not going back
Too slow for me. LPP or ADW are smoothest.
Go has improved significantly, but for my setup the widgets of launcher pro swings it for me.

Go Launcher EX 3D drawer is clearly faster than ADW EX 3D (transparent). LP still does not have transparent 3D drawer so cannot argue, but I'm sure it would be fastest. It's simply way smoother than any other launcher when it comes to extra desktop transitions and 3D drawer.
ADW EX would be my favorite launcher, but it constantly suffers from tiny lag when you have seven homescreens and stuff on most of them. It's not bad, but it always comes up enough to not feel super smooth.

Go launcher

+1 for Go Launcher. The ICS theme available for it is very slick if you're going for that look. For all other intents and purposes it gets updated more frequently than any other launcher available, lots of features and transition effects.
adw Ex
Adw ex the paid version i like the new version with the scrolling dock and the fact i can make the dock icons so large.

Adw EX Launcher : you can argue with it it's just the fastest; it's SUPER snappy. Go Launcher is full of options but it get slower and slower. Like most of the Go Team products : starts great then it goes in all directions and becomes a factory...
Try scrolling the app drawer in vertical mode in Go Launcher then in ADW...and feel the pain for Go.
