Hi
Since yesterday i can't do anymore voice call. Data is working as i can use my browser, market.. This is not an issue with my provider (same issue with other sim card). I have tried to flash the device with other combo pda/modem, with repartition or not... Issue still there... Any idea?
Thanks
Same problem. is it hardware or software issue?
Hardware, i am afraid...
Try with bluetoth handsfree device, and if this work you probaly have a microfon broken. Tke some thin I have with Galaxy s. They change me a microfon and LCD screen.
Same result.....
Are you using 2.3.4? (the XXKGx firmwares)?
If so, try installing an older (XXKFx) modem file. The KGx modems seem to do odd things in areas of low (3G) coverage.
I have tried old combo yet...
No idea except samsung center ?
Up. please...
Hey, ive had similar problems with audio, and the microphone, try plugging in the hands free that came with it, then play ome music, then while still playing unplug i, if it comes out of the external speakers, try making a call then see if it works, long shot, but give it a go.
thanks, i have tried but nothing new .... For the voice call i have this message "invalid sim or network issue" and for the data all is OK I and I can browse or receive emails ... This is the same issue will all the sim i have tried (from different providers )
Samsung has changed the antena of my SGS2 but the result is the same ! I hate samsung ....I have to send it back again ....

Hi Guys,
Please help! I have an XDA Orbit that I have put various different ROMS that I have experimented with. Now I have one that I like I am having a couple of issues.
Firstly, I cant make or receive calls with any SIM card in the phone. It is showing as full reception and does fluctuate as it should but can't make calls. When dialling it just makes 3 beeps after a few seconds and cuts off. Not even emergency calls can be made.
Secondly, although I beleive related to the above, my WIFI does not work. I switch it on and get the hour glass but then nothing happens.
I have re-flashed ROMS to it but to no avail. Even the orginal ROMS but still it does not go away. I will try GPS later today to see if it works and will post results.
I have flashed all radio versions hoping it will solve the problem but hasn't.
Any ideas?
WLAN not working now
Hi Guys,
Answering part of my question myself here but just to let you know the update.
I have managed to fix the calling out and not receiving call issue.
It seems that when I was experimenting with different ROMS on my Orbit I somehow managed to corrupt the IMEI number on the phone. This was causing it to think it was a 'barred' or 'blocked' phone. Therefore not allowing calls.
Quick search on this forum and I found a tool called 'Wizard Service Tool' and changed the IMEI back to orginal and all working fine now except...
WLAN is not working. I suppose the MAC address may have been corrupted also? Anychance I can check this? Or does anyone know how to restore it? I will be searching all day for this so any assistance will be appreciated.
If I manage to fix I will post my results.
You know you can just reflash the radio, you could try the latest version it may help. It is dead easy to find. It will have new wifi, bluetooth, and gsm.
I have tried to flash radio/new rom/hard reset to no avail.
It is a problem with the mac address on the phone. for some reason it gets wiped/corrupted when installing\experimenting with the vanilla roms.
but thanks for the suggestion anyway
any suggestions?
Guys any suggestions????????????
I have my sgs for 2 weeks now. GSM disconnects around every 2 days.
At service mode (*#*#4636#*#* - Phone information) i can see this repport:
GSM disconnects:
====DATA=====
State: inactive
disconnected with last try
at 00:59
fail because No Error
The question is: why does this happen?
Is this an android issue or a hardware problem?
Any pointers?
Thanks in advance
.
do you ever enter a building, subway, or some other location where the GSM becomes poor?

That's not the problem.
Gsm disconnects just like that ,at home for instance. And when I notice that and try to reconnect (settings- wireless networks- mobile networks - networks operators) it doesnt find ANY of them.
Then I restart the phone and gsm network is back.
If I dont notice disconnection in time (so I can restart phone, people just cannot reach me....quite frustrating...
i see what you mean now.
yes, i've noticed that on mine too, but.... that's because i was fooling around with some new Apps Widgets settings i was testing to control the radio and data to save battery.
Did you install any new Apps recently that might cause that?

do you have an old sim card? i had a 3g sim card that wasnt even 1 years old and replacing it fixed connectivity issues on my nexus 1 and i had a similar experience with my old htc magic

Well I installed all kind of apps. but i have the feeling this problem was happening even before that.
And I dont need widgets to control data ( I think) because I set the sgs to use 2g networks only and I dont have apn configured( section is empty. Internet connec. only via wifi.

Well, my sim card is VERY old (2002) and the carrier (Telfort) is roaming into another carrier's network (Kpn) with no extra costs of course like real roaming, but still roaming (I get the little "R" next to the signal strenght bars)
Anyway this never happened with the Nokia 5800xm running Symbian OS and using the same sim card...
Starting to get pissed of with Android...
With Symbian you hack or root or tweak because you want to, not because you NEED to like with Android....
And then you prob. get side effects...
Thank you guys for your time
I would get a new sim card if I were you. Every android phone that I have had seems to work better with a good 3g sim.
Get a new SIM card.
same problem, different phone
i have the same problem on kaiser with flashed android on it.
sim is 2 years old, and now suddenly this happened, tried differents sim cards, but the problem persists. My guess is, it is a software problem.
Maybe i will report when I flash original WM6.1 rom onto it, if you are interested in the result
btw, this happened about two days ago and because of this im buying galaxy s so i hope the problem will be gone with new phone
did you guys see this other topic?

anyone able to reproduce this issue?

Why you think the problem will be gone if it's still android and I also got it with my sgs? Or are you counting on Froyo?
Yesterday I upgraded my sgs to froyo jpc with kies. I am new with Android but the post of Aery was so clear that i didnt resist: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769400&highlight=froyo+upgrade
I did get stuck on reboot but could get out of it after applying a cache/data/factory reset on recovery mode (3 buttons)
Now I am being carefull with the 3rd party apps., and so far so good, no gsm disconnections .
Froyo is of course better that eclair but Android is still disappointing to me.
You flashed Android onto a WM device (i'm impressed); could you not teach me how to flash Symbian onto my SGS?
Voice dialing (over bluetooth or not) and proper connectivity control (network, data, gps and bluetooth) of android is years behind Symbian; and such a well written, light OS, it will just fly on a high-end hardware like the sgs; but that is an issue for another thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7938430#post7938430
Pls keep reporting..

I think indeed that's not the same issue. My problem is that the radio signal get turned off during inactivity. That's why I got connection back after reboot: radio signal gets turned on again; later I learned how to turn radio signal back on without rebooting, but that is just a remedy , no real solution.
Try to upgrade to froyo, make a factory reset and be carefull with 3rd party apps. With froyo you will need less interfering tools anyway
I dont thing that my old sim card is the problem, but i'll try to replace it anyway...but first things first
Btw dou you have 3g turned on? Cause I never...
Another mistery: When I have 3G on I see those bars (signal strenght) dancing and that "death grip" thing happening:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LROTHrTR92k
But when I have it on 2G only the bars doesnt move even if I strangle it with both hands.....
Please repport later how it's going...
I had the same issue, i sent mine back and got my money back, i had also tried with different simcards and resets and nothing worked.. so hopefully my new galaxy wont have this problem. Its strange that these problems are so rare though.. But as long i get it going ill be a happy man.
fourth day with JPC ( and 4 days after a factory reset) so far so good no disconnections . I think problem is gone...
Today just to be safe, I got a new sim card....the other one was too old anyway(8 years)
i have the same issue, for a few days i can't get 3g. i'm seriously wondering about sending back my sgs. i've ttried all the settings, changed my sim..nothing...begin to think it was a fullish thing to change Desire to SGS..

Well... this is not the same issue.
I have 3G (WCDMA) disabled. I only use 2G (GSM) and WIFI for data/internet connection.
I Dont have a data account, I dont need it therefore I disabled 3G in order to save battery.
If you do want to use 3G, just go to settings - wireless and network - mobile network settings - network mode and set auto-mode (GSM/WCDMA or 3G/2G)
If it doesn't work, apply a data/factory reset and try again.
And if it doesnt work, it's probably hardware related and you should return it or send it for repair.
My issue is more complicated; next to the fact that I dont want to use 3g, my carrier is roaming to another network and probably Android OS or the firmware cannot handle it properly.
Android is still premature and the "Samsung - Android integration" seems to need a lot of development as well.
It is just a shame that basic functions like proper connectivity control just wont cut it. And Google is not doing any good either.
And dont let me get started on the voice recognition issue......
Hardwarewise, the SGS is superior that htc desire.....I wonder how it would perform if running Symbian^3 OS or Meego.....
I get a great sound quality from the stock music player just by mixing the equalizer and using the music clarity effect...just great...better than any other device I tried.
And the OFFLINE Gps experience is just great as well: the combination SGS - Motonav - External Bluetooth gps device is working like a charm.
I wouldn't change my sgs just yet......
yesterday i was swiching sims to determine if is a sim fault and suddenly i have my 3g/h back. happy owner again. i've tried all to do this, from firmware upgrade to servide mode settings..i don't know why but i'm ok again...

Hello,
I know its been a long time since you wrote this thread but I just came by it!
I have the exact same problem with you (I had it since August) even now with the official froyo. I tried factory reset and no new apps (that could cause the problem) but it still disconnects randomly in GSM mode. However, when I have it on auto (gsm and wcdma) I have no issues. I just disconnect data from the power button in froyo. I am wondering if you ever found a solution..
Chryssa
Well, I am subscribed to this topic so I saw your post.
Good and bad news:
First the bad one: No solution yet, it keeps disconnecting IF I stay on "gsm only".
And the good (or a little better) news:
I noticed that on sgs, using "gsm only" or "gsm/wcdma (auto mode) makes no difference on battery consumption....
By the way, this is a Samsung issue, not really an Android one.
On a HTC Desire HD, you can use "gsm only" mode with no problems...
Thank you for your answer!
I noticed that about the battery too. So not too bad, I just have to keep it on auto mode then..
Same issue
Im having the same issue but in a optimus t the worst part is that i cant get service at all.. when i press change network preferred it wont change and when i try to press on turn on radio it wont work either....
I've searched for a solution on the forum. Some people have 'somewhat' similar problems. But usually something small differs, and their suggested solutions wont work for me.
I have tried wipe, wipe and wipe, Task29 and yes the SD-card aswell with SD-formatter with the correct settings. But we can outrule the SD-card as I've tried different cards aswell. One solution was to flash the latest radio 2.15... didn't work either. My problem is that my issue with not be able to call out or receive a call is there whether I use a stock Win-rom, a cocked win-rom or any android nand rom. It just does not want to connect calls, closes down saying "Call ended Not connected" on one of the latest MIUI roms. SMS, MMS and Internet (data) works and I have full signal.
Is there anything else you can come up with that I could try that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Have you tried a different SIM? they can fail as well
Yes, I've tried that too.

sms goes thru like a phone call, so not sure how you can send SMS but not make a call.
I would take out the battery for like 5 hours and try again, are you still in warranty? Could be a radio defect.
I'll try that thanks. Otherwise I'll consider it broken. The radio that is.

sounds like your antanae ! I know cause tried to boost my antenna signal on my samsung galaxy by sticking paper clips and small guage copper and messed something up ,and from that point on i got 3g but no radio signal.
Well...that's my problem...
I can't receive or send SMS anymore...
Last SMS I received did not make a sound or a reminder...I accidently clicked on sms tab when I saw it...
Last few had some problems with new messages notification...it just did not disappear for a lot more seconds as it should...
The second problem is incall sound quality...
I hear very bad and sometimes computer voice...
The person on the other end hear echo of his voice...
I had this echo problem for few weeks but it was very minor...
Now suddenly I can't use SMS and calling is so annoying...
And I am very sure these problems are connected because they started at the same time...
Top taskpar also does not bring up notifications menu...only start button works and battery bar is updated...
What could be the problem?
Software or hardware?
I am using EnergyRom, but never had problems with it...
I'm guessing a problem with Radio, due to the sms failure and robot voice in call. Try flashing another RADIO, it might solve the problem.

I've been using radio and rom I have for more than 3 months...situation began 3 weeks ago...
If I flash the radio again...do I need to hard reset?
Hard reset may be a good idea & you can make a backup first thus can recover fully if reset does not resolve issue.
Are you sure sim card & network are free from errors ? have you tested sim in another device & another sim in your device ?
Does the signal strength apear in normal strengh parameters.
What network/country is this happening on ?

I guess I will reflash radio and new July4 rom because I use June1 rom...
I am in Slovenia, I use Mobitel network...I did not test SIM...Signal looks same as always...
I did remember something new...weather location says Slovenia and not city anymore...this has been since the problems began...and it doesn't update weather very often anymore...
Internet connection works well...
Probably flashing would be best option...if it doesn't fix the problem, I'll return the device to be rapaired...
Sounds more like a network change & perhaps your device phone band settings & sms centre number need adjusting ! weather failing to update &/or not pull actual location is normally always network tower related so I guess Mobitel may have done some reconfigering of its towers !
Really worth swapping sims & another device before flashing or sending into repair. Also a call to Mobitel may shed some light on any network changes if you get a brighter than average human call centre drone ...

My Galaxy S4 Google Edition has randomly stopped connecting audio for calls in either direction. I have already tried all solutions I could find on the internet and this forum, including:
Reboot the phone
Check audio settings
Factory reset
Install multiple different stock firmwares
Install multiple modem versions for my phone
Test calling with other apps
Change type of network (GSM/CDMA/Global/etc)
Opening and cooling the phone
New SIM card
New carrier
I have determined that:
The calls work after leaving the battery out or switching batteries for about 2 calls before it quits again.
All speakers are working, but no audio ONLY during cellular calls.
Texting/Data works and calls on this SIM card work in other phones.
Calling DOES always work ONLY when using a bluetooth headset
It appears to NOT be a software issue, but I am not ruling that out.
Would anyone have an idea what piece of hardware could be broken? Any last software suggestions? I will be trying to sell this in a few days if no one knows anything else I can try.
Well the only thing you didn't try is a different simcard.

I just tried it and no difference. By extension, the new SIM was also a new carrier, so it was not related to that either. Thanks for the idea.
Same EXACT Problem
Not that this helps you at all, but I have the same exact problem. I have tried most of the same "solutions" you have tried as well, also to no avail. I have tried countless ROMs, reboots, Odin flashes, etc. What gets me is that once in a while, after installing a ROM or using Odin to go back to stock, I'll get my call audio back for a day or two. Eventually, and without apparent reason, the call audio goes away, and I'm back where I started.
In fact, I was about to write my own XDA post, but then I saw yours, and figured it would suffice.
Good luck. I hope someone has a solution out there because I'm at my wit's end.
Correction: All the same except that my phone is actually a MetroPCS SGH-M919N. Supposedly its the exact same model as the i9505.

Well, good to know it's not only the Google Edition. I believe the other threads I saw were from other models, too. The S4 must just have a cheaply made/defective part.
I've added one last observation to my list. I will probably make a swappa boneyard listing in a few days if anyone is interested.
Hi ,
Not clear if you guys have custom roms or not...
I seen similar problems like that in I9500 models and most of the time the problem was modem related..did you try to flash/ reflash a modem ( new or same) ?

I believe both of us have custom roms (and have tried flashing stock), and we have tried flashing a new modem (old and new). Although, since calling partially works, I will try a few more modems and report back.
