ALL,
I started this new thread becasue I have swap use my donor phone as htc evo , try to get more speed but it seems not at all. My donor phone most of time lock on EV(evdo) the internat is must more fater than my htc evo(max 128 b) in 1xrtt most of time. from time to time it show 3g but actually speed is very very slow.
Here is my origial setting , was getting 3G icon but speed is around 100-130 b/s

2: ROM to Calkulin's_EViO_2_ROM_v1.8.zip
3: Lost the signal strength, phone was not stable, able to make outgoing call but not able to receive call. Went to QPST, the system table been alter
it should be automatic but the 1st got altered.

Why is it that every single thread that I've read today makes no sense at all? Does the XDA forum have some sort of "garble" function that takes all of the text in a thread and just jumbles it into an illegible mess?
Seriously...Is it that hard for people to take a second, read what they wrote, and correct it so that it doesn't look like a chimpanzee is typing with his feet? Jesus...
Finally Got it to work now, from ##data# chose evdo (HDR only) and from ##debug# chose evdo engineering, now all filed been populated, speed test 600k dl, 340 up.

LMAO!!!!!! Chimpanzee typing with its feet..... Classic!!!! *Wipes tears*
After almost one month of debugging and reading, Finally I got EVO working on 3g speed. It is not the rom, not the radio not the kernel. ##786# is the magic, I reset it, let it through with activation first time, does not work, reset it again, cancel activation, put NVRAM back, manually enter HA/AAA, work !

One trick i learned along time ago, Little trick but it was to change the slot cycle index in the phone programming menu ##3282#(DATA) selecting edit mode(Need MSL((MASTER SUBSIDY LOCK)) Can easly call sprint for this) and then navigating to advanced then changing the index value to 1 from the defualt 2
What this does is changes the frequency the phone checks the towers for incoming calls, If you are like me, you have probably had times where you will have phone calls that only ring for like 5 secs and then the person hangs up. When you call them back they say they were on there till your voicemail. That to me is and was very annoying. So i came across this little trick and it works as follows
The default Value 2=3.015434secs
The value i use is 1=1.507717secs
You can change this to how you see fit, I have tested and noticed there is no considerable drain on the batter at 1 and theoritcally speaking putting it higher will conserve battery as your phone isn't constantly pinging the towers but i have never tried that
0= I never tried zero as i dont think it has any effect
1= 1.507717secs
2= 3.015434secs(Default)
3= 4.523151secs
etc.....

forgot an extra # its ##3282#
Sorry about that
How long have you had it set to one and tested battery performance?
I have a hard time believing that it wouldn't effect the battery drain; After all, you're instructing the phone to communicate with the tower at almost exactly twice the speed as it's set to by default.
Just curious!
cent
I Have used it for phones over the years, THe Samsung Blade, the HTC Touch, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Hero and Now evo. ANd what you would think that it would but i havent noticed anything considerable, More then likely a negliable amount of consumption. At least to me and you it gains 2secs of ring time, Translates into the person reaching you quicker, I.E less lost calls, Not a big deal to alot of ppl but it was something i have used on all my phones since i learned of the trick.
Just did this it did helped out thanks now on the incoming callers second ring, my Evo will start ringing so this is better than it was before.
EDIT: sort of a paint but you have to do this each time you turn your phone off or on as it goes back to 2.
Yea, it reverts every time you reboot. But I believe it does seem to be helping.
EDIT:
Once you commit the changes a couple of times they stick permenantly.

Anyone notice slower dl and ul times lately. This is off of fresh reboot and with full bars on 3g. Did a speed test and dl speed is 144 and upload was 42. Does that seem normal?
Im getting about 780 down and 680 up with 3 bars of 3g

Could there be any apps that i am running that are slowing this down?
I'm in san antonio, texas and I've seen the same thing as the OP. For the first week maybe after I got the phone it was fine ("Full five bars" of 3G --> 1-3Mb down/1Mb up), now it's nightmarishly crappy on 3G, at least where I usually use it. Often around 100kb/down and <50kb up. Sadly, the wimax coverage has also significantly degraded where I usually use it. Used to have fair coverage here and usually 6Mb via a usb dongle, but now you barely get 1Mb down. So, I have to hope it will keep 1 bar of wimax and use that at craptastic ~1mb... but then it falls out of range often and breaks things it's trying to do by switching modems.
On an unrelated issue(the above referred speedtests run from the phone itself and in the case of wimax confirmed with a separate wimax modem matching the phone's performance), I've noticed when using tether for root users (the USB one), that sometimes it seems it will load just a small portion of each webpage, especially when I'm using the 3G connection. Is sprint now packet-sniffing and limiting webpage downloads based on either the browserid or on the size of the file exceeding a certain size? Sometimes after I reboot the phone completely it will work again for a while, but not always.
I also cleated the cookies, cache, and history and have the same problem
Enable EVRC-b.
You will bump it up from 800k to 10200k
They must have intentionally disabled it to lower bandwidth, due to the enormouse data consumtion of this phone.

1) Call Sprint, ask for your MSL. If they refuse, just keep calling and asking, saying you're trying to improve your call quality.
2) Do a Nandroid Backup and a Titanium Backup.
3) Open up your phone's dialer, and punch in ##DATA# (##3282#)
4) Select Edit mode, type in your MSL as the password.
5) Go to Advanced, then for Home Orig change it to EVRC-B or Voice 13K, repeat for Roaming Orig.
6) Just above Home/Roaming Orig, select EVRC-B, and change it to Enable.
7) A little above that is a long string with the abbreviation ACCOLC in it. Change this to 2 (gives you higher priority on the network than normal )
8) Once done, press Menu, then Commit Changes.
9) Let the phone reboot.
10) Reboot into recovery, and do a Nandroid Restore.
The reason for the Nandroid Backup/Restore, is explained here. Basically, there's a software glitch with the program which is launched by ##DATA# and causes apps such as Pandora and pretty much ANY audio streaming app to stop working. By doing a Nandroid Restore, you go back to before the settings editor screwed everything up, but still keep the changes to your baseband.
Seems like Sprint is falling into the same trap as at&t and not upgrading their network. Hopefully speed improves. I've been getting 600 or so down which is pretty pathetic. We will see if it takes sprint as long push out the necessary upgrades.
EVRC-B shouldn't have any effect on your data speed at all. It is the Vocoder for VOICE PHONE CALLS.
ACCOLC changes will have no effect at all. Values of 0-9 have the same priority on the network, they're all equal. Values of 10+ are reserved for high priority government, police/fire/ems, etc type phones and are not accessible to you in this menu. Changing it will do nothing.
I've seen error 67 a few times also withing the past 2 weeks. I wonder if it has anything to do with the new PRL update?
I was getting error 67 for the last two days. Today they stopped but am getting pathetic download speeds. between 10 and 44Kbps.
Was getting several data freezes every day (5 to 7 every day). I installed a free app from the Android Market called DATA ON DEMAND which is supposed to switch your data from 3G to 2G in order to conserve battery when phone is idle in sleep mode (screen off). This app did not work on my device. It would kill the data completely after phone was put to sleep and data nor voice would restore unless the phone was restarted. Needless to say, I uninstalled the app and rebooted my phone and strangely, my phone has not dropped data even ONCE in 5 DAYS. I have tested this on 3 other HD2's and all followed the same pattern. I have only tested them for the last 3 days though. My exact setup as far as OS's is:
Windows Mobile Rom: Omega v14 WWE XT CHT
Radio: 2.14.50.04
Android Rom: mattcevoleo1.0.1
Kernel: [email protected] (r1)
Please post if this works for you if you decide to try it. I am curious. That was probably the only real downside to my daily HD2/Android usage.

yes, that is what I am refering to. sometimes both arrows would get stuck.
Since updating to hastrian 7.1 I don't see any improvements to my battery life and data like everyone is taking about is still a problem, if some one could correct this it would be three best setup ever

I concur. Thats why I was wondering how long had he used that set up before downloading the app. I have almost the same exact set up and my data connectivity has been excellent (this is without downloading that app)
I can confirm this has worked for me, after updating my kernel to hastarin 7.1
i started having data disconnections, then this came along
thanks for sharing
My attempt ...
Until now, any build that uses PPP would not work without at least one flaw in the data connection every half hour or less... Terrible...
I then decided to try a combination of the tips that I've been reading in the forum.
First, I edited the build.prop in system folder and changed the last two lines in the file, the primary and secondary DSN. I used Namebench, a free program to find the indication of which DNSuse for my region (I live in northern Brazil). I run the Namebench on my laptop and copied the two recommended DNS addresses.
Then followed another tip, and using the *#*#4636#*#*, changed the network configuration for GSM auto.
And finally, in the phone settings, I changed from GSM/WCDMA auto to GSM only...
It's five hours straight without any disconnection !!!!!! It is true that the connection is slower because of GSM, but it is steady and reliable!
My next step will be to change this last parameter for WCDMA Only and just see what happens
Sorry about my English, hope you can understand!

+1. Had freq. dropouts when on 2.09 radio, 2.10 caused the entire radio to dropout and 2.11 was fairly stable but still freq. dropout. 2.14 was been the most stable radio for me so far, only 2-3 dropouts max per day.
Of course, the early radio dropouts could've been caused by the older buggy ril wrapper library, so I might revert back just to experiment around a bit more.
Using Mdeejay Evo Sense 2.4.2 I Managed to resolve my data drops... at least in the last 24 hours.
I still haven't gotten one freeze on any of the 3 phones I'm testing since I did this. maybe I'm lucky...

Ok. Just to give a feed back...
With GSM only, no drops at all!!!!
When I changed to WCDMA only, overall it's more stable than before, but I had a few drops last night and this mornig...
So, for me, I'm switching back to GSM only. I do prefer a more slower connection but with no drops !!!
I'm using 2.14 radio, with FroyoStoneSense v3.1 (Darkstone) !
http://webupon.com/web-talk/epic-4g-signal-boost/?ref=nf
Firstly, My understanding is that what this will do is modify the minimum signal strength the phone will connect to down to -110db. When the phone is connected at this signal (-110db) does data still work sufficiently well or does it drop packets?
Secondly, could this same sort of modification be done to the cdma radio?
It works sufficiently well, you will not notice a speed drop at all, you will probably get a small speed increase, but your 4G signal strength will increase drastically if you follow the steps. For the CDMA Radio, you can increase 3G speeds, by following these steps:
1. Know the MSL
2. Dial ##3282#
3. Go to multimedia
4. HTTPPD Proxy Port must be 0
5. HTTPPD Proxy Address must be 0.0.0.0
It may be already done if you have a Custom ROM, but this will boost your 3G speed by about .5 mbps, which is pretty good
When I try to edit the values, my 4G gets disconnected, and the value is not saved.
It does disconnect and reconnect but the values are supposed to stay changed, are you sure you are following the steps completely right?
My phone is stock ROM. Does it need to be rooted or something beforehand?
Yes, I think that might be the problem. My phone is rooted and the values save.
I'm rooted -- DK28 running Truly Epic (ext4)
When I ##3282#, I get a menu with View and Edit.
When I hit Edit, it asks for MSL (which I enter). Then at the bottom, there's a wimax option, but the options after that don't follow your instructions.
When you say 4G radio has to be on, does it have to be actually connected? I'm in an area where I don't get 4G... I'll try it when I get into range later on.
@decalex - yeah I think 4g has to be on before you start the process. I'm not sure you'll get any values if not.
@goku- thanks for this thread. I just did it and noticed a pretty substantial increase in my 4g speed. Before the test, I pulled just around 3.9-4.0mbps on speedtes.net. After I did this, I'm getting around 6.5mbps. Big thanks. I'm on my phone or I would send a thanks your way
Thx has been sent

Yeah, 4G has to be on, and this hack is for places with spotty coverage. Try it when you get in range and see the difference!
When i choose local and type in getprop its just a black screen i can't move it or i don't see the 6 digit number.
You could try "getprop | grep MSL"
That should get you the exact line without having to scroll.
Tried and confirmed working (on rooted stock Eclair). Here in NYC/Queens I never see over 4M down, just did this and got 6.5. I can also get 4G in my basement now. Awesome, and much much props.

hey guys on dk28 rooted stock rom I got my msl and then went to do the ##3282# and then i have view and edit and the only option for wimax is view. When I get in after entering my msl I find the two fields and enter the -110 and then the other number and it doesnt keep the values afterwards. should there be 0's in front like what is there now or is it just -110.
Thanks, guys for any help you can give.
Hey guys got it working had to reenter the numbers again back to back didnt take the 1st time just disconnected 4g so just tried it again and they took the 2nd time. so try that if you notice it not taking the values at 1st just put them right back in.
I think I know what you mean. Just type getprop again then hit enter from that black screen and you'll see a ton of lines come up. The msl is located on one of those lines

Ya i tried both keyboards.
So I am assuming that this will negatively effect the battery life, but only if you leave the 4g radio on in either a low 4g signal area or a no 4g signal area, right? Once you are connected, this should have negligible effects on battery life. Or am I mistaken?
Just wondering if the appearance of the cell network signal is normal (shows its like half full)
I've flashed a few different radios and none seem to get the signal higher than what looks likes about 50% (as measured by the graphic)
Is this just how the graphic appears?
i can't link because i'm new but the picture is at

Are you losing signal or having reception problems?
Be careful flashing radios too often. A bad flash equals a bricked phone.

Same issue. I use WiFi so much I hadn't noticed it. I am able to get full WiFi bars though. Maybe the software isn't coding to report a high signal even when it's available? I'll have to test this again while standing/driving next to a cell tower.
If the signal is reporting the same at all times no matter what, it's probably b/c he forgot to add a line to the build.prop
I spotted this in zips' older builds and he fixed it when I told him what it was and what he needed to do
