[Q] Need help with installing a rom - HD2 General

I want to install the MAGDLR version of this ROM, MccMBoxmaX GS V8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038694) and i cannot figure how to install the thing without having the DAF file such as the one in this video at 7:15 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvS4EvS0PAw). Please if someone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Also i realize that there are better places for this to be posted, but XDA won't let me post anywhere else more relevant.

That's an SD card rom, not a flashable rom, hence being in the android SD development section. You want the android nand development section. Keep researching, you aren't there yet.

Doesn't MAGLDR mean that it is a flashable rom? Also if it is only a SD card rom is all i do is drag and drop the rom onto the SD card root and im done? Could you possibly point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to do this or give me instructions that are better than the one on the thread? Thank you for your reply

I've never used SD android, but as far as I know you drop the rom in "android" folder on SD then in magldr theres a setting to choose the default SD folder to start from, or you can boot SD android by running haret from within winmo.,,,, or something,,,
Go to the SD section, first thread "sticky roll up thread",which as it's name suggests is a roll up of all the guides and howtos you could ever want.

You, also, have to have the proper "rootfs" file to run it with magldr, otherwise running it with Windows Mobile is fine. Read the OP of that ROM or search through it, it was probably mentioned.

Good luck!!!

[Q] Hd2 froyo error msg

I have been trying to install froyo on my hd2, and it actually runs the OS but after a few hours my phone just blacks out. then when i take out the battery to restart it and try running haret again, i keep getting the same error message
"userdata.img and system.img not found on the sdcard"
what does this mean? and is it fixable? Please and thank you.
Need to know the setup on your phone... Which winmo rom, android rom, radio version.....
And you will probably ge t more help in android section q&a thread..
Sent from my HTC HD2 Android
Had a similar issue and it was fixed by reformatting my SD card.
Did you put all the android files on the root of the SD card or the whole android folder??
If you were able to run it once... but not again the second time then it sounds to me like you've put the files on the root of the SD card. That's why it can't find the files. Your directory should look like this SDCARD/ANDROID/haret.exe

[Q] About to Flash WP7 couple of questions

I have done a ton of reading today but can't seem to find some last answers.
I do apologize, but I've been coming in and out of these forums for years and flashing various phones on occaision so I'm comfortable but no expert.
I have a TMOUS HD2 (yellow reset key) with the stock wm6 rom installed.
I've been running Android MDjGingerbread v.1.0 for a couple months and it's GREAT.
Now I want to try out WP7.
Questions:
1. I have everything downloaded and ready to go but am not sure about the radio. as I understand it I (as a tmous owner) have to MAKE SURE that the radio that's packaged with the WP7 doesn't get written? how do I do that? Or am I confused on this.
2. As I'm currently happy with the install I have on the SD card for android I'm going to remove this SD card prior to flashing WP7 So it doesn't get overwritten. HOWEVER I'm wondering will I be able to re-install this SD card after getting WP7 all set up and unlocked and doing everything needed to the SD card I use for the WP7 install.. .Can I remove that SD card and replace it with the one that has the Android Rom I've had such good luck with? and then boot to that android build from WP7 like I did from Winmo6? Or will I have to sort out a fresh android install to the SD card.
3. Are DFT WP7 roms already registry edited so they appear as HD7's or does that need to be done prior to trying to get an unlock code from MS. If so where's a link to that? I can't seem to find instructions on that.
LASTLY. I understand you can actually run all 3. winmo6 in nand and WP7 partition/Android Partition off the SD card.
What I don't get is if you have to Nand flash the WP7 first to get all the settings straight and copy that install to the partitioned SD card... THEN put the android build I want on the other partition? Or Can WP7 be run from SD card for the whole process? I'd prefer to just leave the stock rom alone. Although obviously not completely against it.
Any/All help is greatly appreciated.
Mods feel free to delete and PM me with links if I missed these answers in an obvious spot.
You do expect a PM from a mod, sending you links to obvious spots?
Hmmm... I guess that won´t happen. But maybe you read too much, overlooking some of the "obvious" spots inside the stickies of each subforum.
Anyway, now to your questions:
1) WP7 ROMs don´t come with Radio ROM parts.
Note: To install MAGLDR, check this thread here. Here you´ll learn about requirements. If you had a NAND Android build, you´ll be familiar with this - but please make sure to use MAGLDR 1.12 or higher with WP7.
2) There is a tutorial to dual boot WP7 and Android: Click!
3) The very first "Leo70" ROM is not jailbroken, virtually all others are
4) No triple boot possible yet, only WP7 and Android or WinMo 6.5 and Android.
Thanks So much.
Shoulda just kept reading. It's up and running 100pct now.
Just got to figure out why I cant get it to see the SD card.
but I think I saw some notes on that. I'll go back and read tomorrow.

Dear confused nani,
SD android was so yesterday, wouldn't you want to have hd2 boot straight into android like how window os? It's called NAND android. Unless you like window 6.5 os or dual os then you should gone SD android. I'm throwing this out there just in case you don't know. If you decided to go NAND, follow my sig for the best pure latest android.

Is this 2.13 TMOUS Stock ROM?
I would suggest you to use Custom ROM that is compatible with SD Android. You can try Platinum Series by Laurentius26 (find the link in WM 6.5 ROM Development forum!). I used this rom for dual boot with SD Android (American Android AOSP)
To do that, you have to install HSPL 4 and Choose SPL 2.08 HSPL.
Do Task 29.
Flash a Custom ROM.and do HARD RESET. Let it fully boot and do Soft REset.
Place your SD Android Folder to the ROOT of your FORMATTED Micro SD Card.
Remember that the name of the folder must be "Android" (without quote). Few SD Android ROM has different folder name, so you might need to rename it.
Now within Android ROM folder, tap CLRCAD and tap HARET
It will boot to ANdroid. Keep in mind it will take around 20 Minutes. Be patient
If you still have a problem or need more detail, you can PM me
Good luck

yes its a 2.13 tmo usa stock rom...i will try this i just hope it works. thanx silverwind
first of all you needn't do a hspl to run an android sd build. first choose a build from the android sd build threads. i can suggest americandroid if 'sense' isn't so important for you. After you download the rom, unzip and find android folder in it. copy it to your hd2. tap clrcad then haret. first boot may take up to half an hour.

Android in my hd2 now!!

HI MATES,,,,i´ve just aquired the mitical hd2 wm phone for my collection and i need some help for start my own personalization...
1-i don´t want WM on my hd2 only android,,, is better via sd or via nand?
and what´s the better tutorial for to install android from WM 6.5???
i desire flash it to be able for to flash and try a lot of android roms of the hd2 i love sense 3
i´m looking for tutorials but there are a lot! i need the most easier...also i need to install a recovery menú of course...
thank´s mates!!!
see you here!!!
NAND is better than SD, but follow the steps below, and you can have both
Install HSPL
Flash a X.XX.50.XX radio (like the one in my sig)
Install MAGLDR
Install CWM Recovery with appropriate partition size for the ROM you intend to use (typically the partition size is listed in the first or second post of the ROM's thread)
Download MAGLDR NAND ROM, and place it at the root of your SD card.
Flash the ROM from CWM recovery (AD Recovery from the MAGLDR menu)
Download MAGLDR SD Android build
Extract SD buid .zip file to root of your sd card (so that all the files of the build are in their own folder on the root of your card, not all the files themselves on the root of the card)
In MAGLDR, go into Services-->Boot Settings-->AD SD Directory, and choose the folder where your SD Build is.
Now you can boot a ROM from NAND, and boot another Android build from your sd card.
It is a good idea to read all of the tutorials, and get familiar with what you are doing before you do it.
I recommend using the HD2 NAND Toolkit, as it makes flashing HSPL and CWM Recovery easy and convenient.
Just whatever you do, if you have a T-Mobile US HD2, DO NOT flash a X.XX.51.XX radio, or you will permanently brick your device. Just about any other screw ups can be fixed, but flash a 51 radio and you're screwed.
Again, read as much as you can, decide what ROM you want, and follow the steps I've laid out for you, and you can't go wrong.

Here is the best guide IMO. You shouldn't really ask questions like this though, I don't think its right to say 'Android in my HD2 now' and expect everyone to help you, despite there being hundreds of other threads on the same topic, asking the same question and getting the same responses. In future, use the search tool.

[Q] broken sd slot..

unfortunately, i have a broken sd slot, so my hd2, doesn't read my sd card.
I have my ROM downgraded to a stock wm6,5 Rom with a sd install.
After that, i broke accidentaly the sd slot. I have install again HSLP 2.08 and now the only thing that i can do, is to flash custom win.mobile Roms.
Is there any way, that i could install NAND android Rom or i am stuck on wm for ever?

You can use option #5 USB flasher of MAGLDR. You have to use a DAF.exe to flash it. Go to this guide and read the section under "2. FLASH YOUR ANDROID ROM". Download the ROM in this thread, you can either just flash that ROM or you can just replace the ROM in the package with the ROM you want to flash. The DAF.exe is in the with the ROM I linked for you to download.
I had no idea about his method.. I had download many custom Android NAND Roms and all was a .zip file, that i could installed with CWR via sd card..
I will try to flash this way, right now.. Thanks again..
edit:
"you can either just flash that ROM or you can just replace the ROM in the package with the ROM you want to flash."
-How i can change the Rom in the package, with the one i want to flash?
I suppose that the Rom is the system.img file. But the one i want is a .zip file.

How did you know your SD card slot was broken? Did you try using other SD cards?
Sent from my T9193 using xda
it' s certainly broken.
the sd card doesn't snaps anymore..
i disassembly my hd2 and notice that some parts of the sd slot it's broken, so my sd card doesn't make contact with the pins to the motherboard..
A little off-topic question, how do you break an sd card slot ?
unfortunately, not that difficult..
I pressure it, more than it should be, so after that, i never heard again the sound of snaps..
after the disassembly, i found a pin of the slot broken..bad luck i suppose.. that's the end of story..
for now, i have install the LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM, as T-Macgnolia suggest me,
but i am missing the possibility to install and try any custom Roms for our beloved HD2..
i'm missing sense 3.5, i'm missing ics and many more..
so, in conclusion,
is there a way to flash ANY android Nand Rom from usb??
for now, i'm searching to find the way to change the Rom of the "Stock Desire" to the one i want..
anyone has a way to guide me?

Ok I finally had some time to look into this for you. As you said previously you have to replace the system.img and the boot.img of the ROM I linked for you to download with a system.img and boot.img of the ROM you want to flash.
Now to do this you have to convert the system folder in the .zip file of the ROM to a system.img and replace the boot.img with the boot.img in the ROM .zip file. Sadly though I have not yet found a proff positive guide on how to convert the system folder to a system.img.
This is what I have found out, to do it you will have to either be running Ubuntu or Linux on your computer, either naively or in a virtual machine. Or you can use Cygwin. The below are what somewhat specific references.

If you have Linux on your PC, then you can use the 'yaffs' tool. Search it on Google.
This is how even AOSP compiles system folder into system.img

to create a new system.img, use genext2fs or e2fsimage in cygwin
to unpack system.img you may be able to use the rdump command of the 'debugfs' tool from e2fsprogs in cygwin
AFAIK there are also native windows tools to access ext2 filesystems.

Rebuild system.img
Seems you just need "to loopback mount an image on your linux box and format it with YAFFS".

You can also use yaffs to extract the system.img from a rom that is already on the device. Or get the sytemimg from a NANDroid backup. Now I know that is not really possible for you on your own. But it is what I have found in my search. Best advice I can give you is to take this information and hit up Google really hard. Hope this helps you some how.....
way too difficult procedure to do this!!!
I suppose that i must understand how to be a cook chef
and my knowledges is not so high level!!!
certainly, i will make a try.. i will read and read and read, after all Google is our best friend!

You have the right attitude about this and it is not has hard to learn as you thinnk. But to help you out even more check out this ROM you can install it the same way as the other ROM I linked for you. Also it may be time consuming but you can start looking through all the different ROM threads to find all the ROMs that are install able via USB like the first ROM I linked. It is more ROMMs like that use this method to install, but you will just have to find them. A little hint too, this is how Android ROMs were first installed before Clockwork Mod was created for the HD2.
is never a waste of time, to try to learn something new .. whether it resulted in something works or not..
thanks for all your hints T-Macgnolia..
edit:
is any chance to find a schematic diagram of the motherboard?
i could think a patent to read again my sd card..
or any aftermarket mini sd slot that will fit into the hd2 motherboard?
i would love to try to resoldered a new one, if i have a spare part of it..
i also looking for a motherboard board to buy, but i can find only Tmobile versions..
