I'm running ken's 4.5 beta on 2.3.4 but im having a few issues so i'm considering heading to stock but i just want to know if its safe. I have an unlocked bootloader and kens 2.3.4, question #1 if i fruitcake back to 1.8.3 will i get the ota update. Question #2 will i still be able to unlock the bootloader after i update? Any help on these 2 questions will be appreciated
I got the OTA notification this morning and thought nothing else of it, downloaded it and installed it. It starting installing the file, it got to like 60% on the bar(with the android guy jumping out of the box) then it stopped. Now it shows an android guy and an explanation point... My phone was rooted, otherwise stock from AT&T any suggestions?
it's because you are rooted, unroot and it should install fine

K I haven't done anything to it yet. Should I pull the battery?
Sorry I just rooted it like 3 days ago so I'm still learning.
yea if you want to be completely safe flash black to a clean version of 1.83 and install the ota. After you install the ota do not use rsd to downgrade ever again or your phone will be bricked permanently. ONLY FLASH BACK IF YOU HAVE NOT UNLOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER. If you unlocked your bootloader do not use any rsd or sbf file, You can use ken's 4.5 beta which is the same exact update that has been leaked for weeks

has anyone even gotten it yet? i heard that it already started but so far i got nothing. also does anyone know if this update will fix the battery life issues from the last OTA update?
It was nagging me to do it since like ten yesterday morning. I didn't actually apply it though, just changed my build.prop so it won't bug me anymore.

is there a way i can make my phone find the update faster? lol i really want it and my phone is not finding the update xP
Not that I know of :/ but you could flash the RUU. Keep in mind it does wipe data, so I've heard. Here's the link if you're interested.

Is there a changelog for this new OTA? I really have no complaints on the last OTA after I removed all the bloatware. The not total battery charge while powered on is the only issue I have.
If you are rooted, will this install correctly? i just go the notification.... also would it kill root?!?!
So i just woke up and had the update message, said to restart to update. I accepted, it counted down but never restarted or update from what i can tell.i restarted my phone but still no change. Anyone else having this issue or a solution?

I'm in the same boat. Incredible Froyo(Unrevoked F)(S-off)(Sense) went to install and after reboot count down nothing happened. I then, quick rebooted and didn't see a diff in Software info. anyone know what I should be looking for?
Been searching all day for a lead on what the next step is, but have found nothing. Anyone that figures something out or can add anything please do.

I'm rooted with the stock rom (s-off), bloatware removed. I got the update notification this morning. Unfortunately i was running late for work so I hit install, threw the phone in my pocket, and didn't check it again until later. Don't see anything different that i can tell, not sure if it even applied. Maybe it was just a PRL update or something?

Same here and I have the stock 2.2 with S-off..nothing happened even after the reboot, at least I don't get the nagging update message anymore. Am I really missing much from this OTA update? Last thing I want is more Verizon bloatware on my phone.

I read on xda that they is nothing interesting. There is a vcast app in an xda thread which is part of this OTA.
I recently got a certified used Incredible, it came with the OTA installed. I rooted and everything is fine.

I think I've read somewhere that OTA updates won't install successfully if you're not running the stock recovery, right?

That is correct, if you try to install it with Clockwork or Amon Ra, the install is going to fail.
Is there anywhere we can just download this OTA and update it in Clockwork?

Hm...so how should I go about installing this update? Is there a way to revert to stock recovery, update, and then re-root and re-flash ClockworkMod?

So i was following those announcements about the froyo official update leak, so I went ahead and downloaded it to my Epic 4G, now they are saying that Sprint announced that the leaked update is not approved and therefore shoukd not be downloaded, I want to unroot my phone, but will it unroot it back to the Eclair version successfully or am I going to have problems with the phone?. I've read about the one click rooting and unrooting, but is it really safe to do so?
Whoa... too much here to cover in a small space. Since this appears to be your first post I suggest you start reading. You have many options and with just about as many pitfalls.
Is your phone working ok? If so, why worry now. Wait for a future update.

Yeah it's my first post here, but i've been reading instructions on how to root and unroot. My phone is working perfectly fine with the leaked update. However, when Sprint releases the official update, will the rooted phones receive the announcememnt and will we be able to update it? lol

rooting your phone does not block official ota updates, flashing custom kernels and roms will. also if you do not delete any sprint apps (nascar, telenav) you should not have any problems upgrading to new updates ota.
All I did was install update.zip of sdcard on my phone nothing else. So is my phone rooted? I have no custom roms or anything just the installed dk28. I'm gonna be able to update ota with this installed right?

dk28 would be considered a non stock (ie custom) rom
no you will not get the update ota.

so i did the same thing, downloaded the update.zip file, put it in my memory card and updated the phone using the recovery mode, so i'm not rooted just flashed, and wont be able to get the OTA update from Google?, btw im having a bit of troble with the GPS, when i enable it it say im abot 20 blocks away from my actual location, however, when i connect to a wireless network, per say my home network the location is right 0.o
other than that, the phone is working just fine
Hi guys,
Just recieved a nexus s i purchased on ebay (LOVE IT!) coming from a Galaxy S i used to use odin for flashing the latest roms
But one of the things i wanted from having the nexus s was getting updates quick, and what i thought was OTA updates.
i have just gone into "about phone" checked for updates and there are apparently none available. details below
Android Version = 2.3.1
Baseband Version = I9020XXJK8
Kernel version = 2.6.35.7-gf1638a [email protected] #1
Build number = GRH78
so my question is, how do i get to the latest official FW, i thought it would be as easy as clicking check updates, but obviously not
Cheers guys, i have searched btw, and im lost completely
The full ROM to upgrade you to 2.3.4 is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061445
That should work for any previous build I think - if not use the 2.3.3 ROM and then run the update to 2.3.4.
of course assuming your running stock you could try a checkin and wait for the OTA to reach your handset........
as im on 2.3.1 at the moment, wouldnt there be an OTA already waiting to update to 2.3.3 if the 2.3.4 update has not yet been pushed to this perticular handset?

yeh, once your SIM and handset get registered with Google's servers (which can take a few days) you should get the OTA. if your impatient like me just run the updates manually...

is there anyway to check if my bootloader is unlocked?
i take flashing manually is just a case of downloading the relevent ota rom, and putting it on the SD card, then start the phone in recovery?

boot your phone up while holding onto the volume up button as well and it should load up a screen with a green droid which will show your bootloader state whether it's LOCKED or UNLOCKED.
Place the rom in the root directory of your sd card then boot in recovery and install zip from sdcard.
ok checked and its locked, so am i still able to flash from sd?

It depends. If you are looking at staying "stock" then go see the sticky thread for 2.3.4, there is a full ROM version that you can install. It's signed by Google, so the stock recovery will install it. No need to unlock your bootloader
if you wanted to flash zip's (such as the superuser zip update to gain root access) that where signed by other sources, then you would need to unlock the bootloader and replace the recovery with something like Clockwork

I'm based in India and i have an Unlocked Droid Pro. I still have the stock Rom that is on the phone and i have not updated the phone because of the bad reviews i read on the droid forums. My questions are
1) If i update to gingerbread on my phone will it re-lock the phone to verizon as it did in an earlier OTA Update?
2) Currently my phone keeps prompting me to update to the 3.? OTA update that was already downloaded but i have not installed it fearing that the phone will get locked again. My question here is, Can i skip 3.? update and directly Update to Gingerbread
Your reply would be greatly appreciated

1- Updates don't lock the phone back to Verizon
2- You can't update OTA directly to Gingerbread. You have to go through 3.8.7.

To update via TBH you'll need to be rooted.
Otherwise you can apply the zip file that's available on the forum from stock recovery (doesn't need root).

I tried purchasing the TBS app from his website. But apparently I cannot buy it because im based in india and when its asking for address proof" there is no option for indian states, only american states can be seen. What a bummer

You can't root Gingerbread on the Pro yet. The only way to have rooted Gingerbread is through the Team Black Hat app.

When i was rooted with Z4root, and accepted a VZ update, it put my phone in limbo.
I still had the SU icon, but i did not have SU permissions on my phone. Even doing a factory reset did not clear everything out. I had to manually push the OS onto my phone, then reinstall the current VZ update.
I just ordered a new, unlocked, but vodafone-branded Motorola Pro... Is there going to be an OTA update or do I need to flash a certain ROM (there are a few around, but I guess they're all from verizon)?
cheers,
You can only play around on droid pro not Moto Pro coz there is no sbf

Op, it will just try to install, and then fail. Then you're all set. Nothing bad will happen

Even if you did get it, you can still get back to froyo, but you don't have to worry
