Ok, it seems that Apple has changed something in 10.7 Lion's AFP/Samba, because file managers like Estrongs and File Expert can no longer connect to my Mac via LAN or connect to them via network.
Basically i can't access my shared folders on my Mac from my Tab like i've always done (before 10.7). Any ideas anyone?

If you facing problem matter and seek for help i think its belong to Q & A section.
If you seek for opinion, then you are on the right section.
Anyway, decision is by mod, not by me and im sorry if i am wrong.
Anyway, i dislike mac by apple from beginning. Their device is not a friendly device from beginning. Even bluetooth communication enable only between Apple devices.
Really heat them!!

Although this is probably a [Q] thread, Im gonna leave it here in general because Im sure there will be more people having issues with apples new offering so I'll amend your thread title and leave it here...
Not perfect but fixed
Had the same issue. In Lion they added something to the AFP protocol which is called "Replay Cache". This is not supported by netatalk 2.1 (which I am assuming you are using).... In the beta version 2.2 (beta 4) of netatalk the support seems to be there but it is a bit slow. All in all if you upgrade it will work, hopefully future brings better performance.

So how does one upgrade netatalk? I'm using Estrongs File Manager on my Tab.

I am a noob in the Android community, but not to forums of this like. I have searched everywhere for my concerns, but found nothing but post with the same questions and no answers. When I do find the answers, they all seem to revolve around the GSM version and not the CDMA. All the solutions seem to be only for phones rooted (GSM.) PLEASE this IS NOT a revision of the "CDMA Sub-forum Request" thread, but a unified list of what I observe to be issues with the CDMA version of the HTC Hero. My observations are based on experimenting with the Hero and also other threads, which coincide with my observation. I am also aware that 1.6 may fix most of these issues, but 1.6 where you at? As a former WM Mogul/ Touch Pro user I am used to quick fixes with "cab files." From what it seems, I don't think Google likes this type of approach, cause I haven't found any of that sort. So to begin:
1) Bluetooth - Though stereo headset connects, it doesn't connect automatically when I turn it on. I have searched, but is there another way to just turn my Bluetooth and not have to download a toggle or go in to settings to shut the bluetooth on the phone off and on? Is there a tweak to make this connection to go faster? 3 times with me and numerous times with other CDMA Hero users I know have dealt with issues where it won't connect or it would connect, but in 5min.s
2) Notifications - This one is for the users who want a tad bit more privacy. I downloaded ChompSMS (which I recommend,) but why do we have to download an application to simply make it so no Notifications show up on the front of the lock screen. I guess you could say I am a private user who doesn't want to use a lock code. I tried shutting off Notifications, but it completely shuts off notifications. Is there any sort of tweak that will allow notifications to alert ONLY through sound and vibration and show up on the notification bar without the number and message?
3) Movies - I know Google hates AVI files so I downloaded a converter for MP4. I know this is 1 thing that 1.6 is said to fix, but does any one have a fix for this Choppiness or are we doomed till 1.6 comes out?
4) Applications - Alot of Sprint junk (need I say more?)
5) YouTube App - How do we keep it at High Resolution?
6) Who are the major Players in hacking this phone? - For WM I could name many from Mighty Mike to Psyki. Who can I run to for this CDMA version of the HTC Hero? Tried to search around, but found people like myself asking questions as opposed to people giving answers. I guess cause the community isn't as big
7) Scrolling - Is it me or is there some choppiness when scrolling through the phone. Now the phone is smoother than most WM devices available, but I see the stuttering on the scrolling and some of the transitions of the phone.
8) Any alternative to tweak the phone besides rooting the phone
9) Why can't we get Gmail to push on the Email Widget?
May seem like alot of qualms with the phone, but it is only a spec of how I feel about the phone cause I Love it. Also I am aware that maybe 1 or 2 of the questions have been asked. I want new CDMA users to be able to find a unified thread that will answer most of the issues that i found relative to other CDMA users I know. I know alot of users cause I see them all the time. I actually work for Sprint and I am also an official advocate for the phone. I have been steadily doing my research, but the ones explained above I have no answers to. Please do not close my thread because you think it is a repeat thread. It is questions regarding CDMA and CDMA only, cause all the other threads are Ambiguous. I don't know if they are for CDMA or GSM only. Instead of bashing could I get a reply like "1) http://www.example.com," or "1) and 2) this is how you solve the issue" or something of the like. Since I don't know anything about making tweaks, this is my way to find a solution to this vast CDMA problem of not finding solid answers. Oh yeah, please if you leave us new CDMA users a link, don't leave that link that leads us into Google search or XDA search. I already know about that one. Thanx people
For question 2 about the sms notifications in the bar but not displaying a preview of the message, I use handcent vs chompsms. I like the UI better and it incorporates numerous options for notifications, including showing a new message icon in the notification bar without displaying the message preview.
My only real concerns on the phone are A] battery life. I'm doing a lot of testing on this and should have some solid baselines soon. B] Trackball sensitivity. I love the idea of using a trackball for navigating parts of the UI, but it is just too darn slow. One half of a revolution of the ball for example only moves the cursor in a text field one character. This is horrible. It takes a long time to scroll back the beginning of the text. For now I find myself just using the touch interface for most of what I would use the trackball for. There has got to be a fix for this.
I am also a Sprint employee and offical advocate for the CDMA Hero. Looks like we share a lot of common concerns. Coming from WinMo and Blackberry, i was excited about the Andriod platform, but it seems like (maybe because the phone is so new) that there AREN'T any major players yet. I've read several forums here on Xda about people showing interest about rooting but not much about actual attempts. i have tried several methods built for the GSM versions, but all have failed. Myself and another guy were sucessful in getting the phone into bootloader, but I'm hesitant to flash a GSM rom onto the phone even though 1.6 is supposed to have native CDMA support. Anyhow, let me know if you find anyhting and i'll do likewise.
I still haven't figured out how to tether my cdma Hero. I keep getting errorcode 65 and 67 when I try to use the mobile network sharing on the phone.
I believe you will find that Sprint have disable tethering - i.e. it's a network issue, not a phone issue.
Try PDAnet (google it!) as I've heard this gets around this.
Regards,
Dave
tethering sucess
ive managed to tether my sprint hero using both the native 'mobile network sharing' and pdanet.
the pdanet one is pretty easy to use, but to use MNS, you have to install the NDIS driver. You have to install HTC Sync, but this does not install the NDIS driver directly, just gives you access to it which is located in the HTC Sync install folder in the usb drivers sub-folder (can't remember the exact name of it).
You have to go into device manager and find the unknown device that represents the phone and manually update it.
Once installed, it should add a network connection and you should be all set.

I think I need you to be a little more specific about this: What was the item you updated in your device manager? I checked my driver and the downloaded version of HTC Synch installed the NDIS driver and automatically generated the connection on the My Connections page (Win XP) but I still get the error 67 when I try to connect to the internet.

and MNS still will not work after selecting the ndis driver
yeah, i got that error message every so often...i just disconnected it all, turned MNS off, connected it back up, then reenabled it.
i will try again later on tonight and get back to you
OK guys I'm so sick of this issue. Basically from my research there are thousands upon thousands of people with Android devices who go to university, or work in an office that uses a WiFi connection with wpa-enterprise or whatever and they can't use the net because there's no f**king proxy settings on Android. SO, this thread is meant to CLEARLY explain how to get proxy settings and hence use the net at uni and in the office or whatever. Calm down, I'm about to make life much easier
First of all there is no stock rom that lets you do this on a Legend (at the moment) so the only way to get the settings is for you to root your phone. Now there's like a thousand guides on how to do this but the best one I've found is this. Anyways!
Next thing you have to do if pick a rom to run which has the proxy settings. Now I might add here that everything I'm saying from now on pretty much is for the Legend only ie the roms I mention and.. yeah. So the best rom to use at the moment in my opinion is CyanogenMod which you can find in Legend Development. It's perfect really. Feel free to try other roms but generally they need to be froyo based and you can check if you can do all this proxy stuff straight away by checking the wireless and networks section in the settings area of your phone. If there is a proxy settings section then yeah you can do it.
So yeah, once you're on one of these roms check that you actually have "proxy settings" in the wireless and networks section of your phone, which I might add only lets you use the internet via a browser ONLY. The next thing you need to do is install an app called "transparent proxy" which you can find here. This app lets you use apps via a proxy as well as the browser and thus giving you FULL internet access (use version 2.04 or higher). Another app I've heard that is meant to work as well is called "orbot" which you can find on the market.
If you do a google search you'll see issue 1273 which is all about this proxy issue and its been going on for over 2 years now. I dunno what google's problem is.. but at least thanks to some people it IS in fact possible to get the internet working via proxy on wifi.. you just gotta go to a bit of effort, well I know I did to figure all this ^ out.
Remember if you have anything to add or correct let me know, cheers.

How wrong can you be. Both Azure and Indigo Bean are based on CyanogenMod (versions 6 and 5.0.8 respectively). Version 6.1 of CM is under heavy development, and it will replace Azure as it's the first version to officially support the Legend. There are nightly builds of CM for our phones, so every day something changes. It's about as actively developed on as Android itself.
Also, what did you write your post in? Why are there so many line breaks?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh no no mate you misunderstood, sorry I see now I wasn't clear enough. I didn't mean CyanogenMod in general was outdated and not being updated anymore. I meant that one in the roms section "[ROM] CyanogenMod 6.0.0-RC2 for HTC Legend" by kyosa. Sorry, I'll fix that up in the main post. And yeah what I've done is just pressed enter a lot to make the paragraphs look like that.. I kinda didn't know how to make a big essay readable so I just did that. I don't think it worked haha, let me adjust it. I'll try and eventually make it looks like a lot of the other guides when I get some more info and more response.
Hi guys

Done. There are some good questions on the survey.
In the comments I requested support for HTTP Proxy, in case anyone is trying to think of things to wish for
poll is not "from" archos
please change the title
Thanks for alerting us to this survey. I hope that Archos really takes note of what we say. Here's what I posted for Archos to consider:
Archos, you guys have done some very good things. The battery life on my A70 is phenomenal for example. But more important than getting everything right, is PRIORITIZING what your customers need.
1. There is no 3G on any of the Gen8, so Bluetooth tethering is absolutely CRITICAL. I have had my A70 for over a month and I still cannot successfully tether it to my Android 2.2 phone (which is absolutely capable of tethering). That is a shame. An Android tablet should be able to tether to an Android phone like brother and sister. If Bluetooth is too difficult to get done now, at least add support for Ad-hoc WiFi. I need SOME way to tether my tablet to my phone. Please.
2. After tethering, your next priority (as in working on it right now) has to be getting Honeycomb pushed to the Gen 8. I know it will be a few months maybe, but please don't make us wait 8-10 months after other devices have it like some manufacturers do.
After you do those things, then you can focus on the rest of the stuff:
3. Increase RAM, yes even if you have to change your file system or whatever.
4. Allow charging via USB.
5. People have been begging for this since we got our hands on Gen8. Please, please, please create a system option to hide the on-screen buttons (back, menu, home, search) in certain situations. It throws off alignment on the homescreen and isn't very useful in the video player either.
OK, Done +1
Done.

I requested a standard 'enable root' setting, essential for backups. Without it, you have to use an uncertified tool like Archangel or install the SDE and an uncertified OS image. Not having a standard root option in the development settings is actually more of a security risk than having it.

Just a word of advice. When writing to a company, generally telling them what to do and how to do it doesn't get you very far. Additionally, when telling a company "what the people want" you need to be able to back it up with fact. Otherwise they will likely view it as your opinion and thus you are speaking for one which lessons and "power" your message could send.
I mean your points are good, don't get me wrong. I just think a different style of writing would have gotten more than a circular file response...

In the mean time you can look for software that turns your laptop into a AP. Like this one:

I haven't tried it but from the description it looks promising (and it's free... well the basic version at least). One thing though - it's for win7 but I'm sure you can find something similar for your OS (whatever it is).

It's not about the sharing of the internet connection but the way the iconia connects to your laptop. Simply put in the wifi standard there are two modes - infrastructure and ad-hoc. In the first all clients connect to the AP and transmit data to it only. The other uses direct links between the clients that need to transmit data between them. In the current scenario they look the same (data is transmitted between the iconia and the laptop) but unfortunately iconia can't connect to ad-hoc networks without modification that requires root (which we don't have) and when you create a wlan in windows it's ad-hoc.
I honestly did not know about the downloading of the software - just googled "windows access point software" and came to an article about this one. EDIT: I've just followed the download link and it starts downloading the installer. Not that much of a surprise when you click something called "download". I prefer to get the job done rather than answering to "are you sure you want to download the file?", "are you absolutely positive to that?", "you don't seem too exited about it, maybe you should download it tomorrow?", "do you know what you are doing?", "does your wife know that you want to download it?", "in the current political situation, do you think that it is wise to download this file?" and so on...

Maybe the A100 3.2 root technique works?
Connectify is stable and works by turning your laptop into an actual WAP...
I have been using it for over a year at many hotels that charge for one WIFI and then the laptop puts it back out as its own separate WIFI to all of my other devices... (an HP iPAQ, an iPOD Touch 3, another laptop, the Acer A500 and the Dell Streak 7)
I even used it as a stand alone Hot Spot to do a survey for a major company warehouse situation...
And now they have a version for XP and Vista (I have not tried these yet)
Ted...
Im attempting the A100 Technique right now (as soon as I get JDK / ANDROID SDK) installed. I will update this thread to say if it worked. I thought I read somewhere it didn't but I'm bored. LOL

IIRC we have a newer bootloader in our version of 3.2 than the A100 has. SPCIIW!
Yeah that was a waste of time there's even a reply in the a100 forum saying their ADB root technique doesn't work. I can't chmod the su file to make it executable or even dump in the /system/xbin folder. Was good practice though, hadn't really used adb before. Really pisses me off that Acer did this. It would be like Microsoft not letting you be an admin to your own windows installation. I'm sure the very capable devs out there will crack it (hopefully) lol.

I plan on hacking my new Note 4. Will I be able to do all the same things windows users will be able to? What sort of restrictions will I have, if any?
Anyone?
What do you mean by be able to do what Windows users can? Any specific things?
I haven't installed Kies on my Mac so no idea how well that works but I used Android File Transfer to move some stuff over yesterday with no issues. There is also Airdroid which has always worked well for me.
I am currently using Note 4 octa version with mac book air OSX 10.9.5 using (Samsung's) kies software but the software is so buggy you are better off downloading stuff to ur usb and than using OTA and note 4's flie manager to transfer, If the software was bug free I guess u cud do everything like on windows
Wow I can't believe I didn't make the OP clear. I updated the OP to show that I'm talking about hacking. I'm worried that I might have access to less tools than windows users, or that I might be completely unable to do some things.
