Hi,
I just update my SGSII to KG with Kies (before I was still running E2):
Current firmware version: PDA:KG1 / PHONE:KG1 / CSC:KG2 (XEF)
Mine is European French version. But probably other releases are available
too...
android 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?
Uhm... 2.3.3...
juicy - the leaked XXKG1 and XXKG2 are 2.3.4
I don't understand what Samsung does with its tons of different local releases of software... Anyhow:
2.3.3
I9100XXKG1
2.6.35-7-I9100XWKG1-CLlabeltest_I9100XWKG1
GINGERBREAD.XWKG1
Kies also has an update for my Galaxy S2 (French phone provider with KE2 firmware).
--> I was just wondering : does a Kies firmware update wipe all the data or nothing will change besides the firmware ?
--> How long does it take for Kies to update the phone ?
--> Any battery improvement with the KG1 firmware ?
(this is the only problem I have on the phone + from time to time the lost network for a couple of seconds)
Also available for Odin via the link in my sig.

1- No, it won't wipe any data.
2- Depends on the your ISP's speed, mine is just 2 mbps and it took around 20-25 mins.

Hi
I have am in the UK and have a UK unbranded and stock SIMFREE SGS. I'm just tring to install Froyo but keep getting the message "The device's version cannot be updated."
I applied RyanZA's One Click Lag Fix a while ago which worked fine and more recently tried updating the registry hack a couple of weeks ago.
Currently the latest Kies xxxx100 says:
Current Version: PDA:JM2 / PHONE:JM1 / CSC:JM1
I never managed to complete the hack despite adjusting the PC's registry initially to the Scandi version.
My registry editor reads -
Product Code: GT-I9000HKDXEU
Software Revision: I9000XWJM2/I9000XEEJM1/I9000XXJM1/I9000XWJM2
HIDSWVER: I9000XWJM2/I9000XEEJM1/I9000XXJM1/I9000XWJM2
I believe I uninstalled all the OCLF tools and then uninstalled the OCLF program itself.
Am I missing something?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. (also posted on Android Forums)
Got the same problem... yesterday used dakine method [ sorry can't give link i'm new user >< ] , and today Kies updated but can't update Phone... The reason i think is PDA JM2 version cause PHONE got JM1 and CSC too..
I had same message before i updated Kies to latest version.. after that i got back standart "latest fw version" message
Everytime i had this "cannot update" message.. there was kies update
My script checking firmware stopped working as well. That's because Samsung changed their protocol. That way applications using old protocol can not see updates. You need to have the newest Kies (assuming it's available in your country).

I'm pretty convinced it was the reg hack that never actually worked at play. Can I change it back to my original UK simfree settings as this would be an odler version of firmware than on the phone? If so, what are the settings, as I was originally on JF3?

In case it does, just close Kies, remove all entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Samsung/Kies/DeviceDB/ and start Kies again.
I had the same issue coz my CSC was TMU despite my PC being I9000HDKXEU.
The only branding on my phone was the CSC as it was the first batch from T-Mobile. After a quick downgrade of Kies and a req hack I got the update.
I updated Kies again and now it shows I have the latest update So all updates from now on will not require the hack.
Happy Days
Agreed. To follow up, did the downgrade and reinstalled older Kies. Changed the registry settings and let Kies do its stuff. About 30 mins later, Froyo successfully installed.
Thanks for help guys.
mine says cannot be updated. i've never had any reg hack (and i don't want any) a my fw is JM8. should i downgrade to JM1? my product code is GT-I9000HKDXEZ
I downgraded to official jm1 and was then able to upgrade via kies.

DAMN...... Just tried to update the phone is not responding.
Kies downloaded the update and started to do the Upgrade.
It got about 5% (looking at the bar) into the update when it froze... The phone switched off, the bars not moved and it's been like that for the past 30mins.
HELPPPP.

Your CSC Don't Support Upgarde - Change your CSC
Hint " Search XDA"
Use odin and flash 2.2.1 js5 availiable in forum

Hi, is there anyway to flash my samsung galaxy to the rom version it came from factory or the latest from my operator (Vodafone - Portugal)?
With 64 posts you should know about searching for what you need before posting. Anyway, look here. They have stock ROMs.
Ian
Flash to your operators firmware rom yes if you kept a back up copy or can source a copy .
Basic factory default firmware rom non network branded again yes but its not the network one that came with the phone .

I updated my Galaxy to the latest rom version using kies with the registry hack, i still have the same product code.
Should just be able to do it though kies with the right product code
Even if i installed the rom 2.2.1 in my device and the operator only provides 2.2 version?

Update it via Kies .
Your provider has 2.2
Flash Eclair via Odin go to Kies update firmware and you have a new firmware to download your official providers 2.2 .

My phone is locked so Odin is out of question.
The default phones from Vodafone come with the following data:
PDA: I9000BUJM5
PHONE: I9000BUJM4
CSC: I9000GTCLJM4
Product Code:TCL
Can you help me build an xml file to use in kies registry patch?
Hello,
I'm new here, but I have surfed through the fourm alot before I joined, seems really helpful.
I have one quick question with upgrading.
I have a Galaxy S i9000 Australia, I flashed my phone with the JVK firmwire without bootloaders.
I regretted flashing however, my phone isn't damaged yet, but when the offical Gingerbread is released, is it okay to flash from where I am? (Flash to JVB)
I don't have Download Mode since it was deactivated after the flash, but I will install if it's safe and I'm given a green light. (I don't want to mod my phone anymore after this)
Thanks and I will contribute to this fourm more
Also, after flashing to JVB, will Samsung Kies able to detect my firmwire version that way I can upgrade safely from Kies?

No Kies only detects correct branded product code firmware does not upgrade unofficial firmware .
Might be worth reading the OZ post on here as its more country and network specific .

I think to get official gingerbread you should reflash to your original network. How did updating to JVB break your download mode?
Quoting JJE - No Kies only detects correct branded product code firmware does not upgrade unofficial firmware .
I know that, but since the JVB is the legit and JVK is baseband on Kies, if I manually flash to that firmware, will Kies pick it up?
Quoting STE - I didn't flash to JVB just yet, JVK "Broke" my download mode somehow, I did install the non-bootloaders which I heard deactivates it.
I know that, but since the JVB is the legit and JVK is baseband on Kies, if I manually flash to that firmware, will Kies pick it up?
No as neither tie in to correct phone codes as supplied with your phone that Kies needs to find matching firmware .The firmware you loaded is what's called stock that is its not a from Samsung delivery method .
Stock Samsung base firmware passed to the networks to brand etc . Network then uploads the firmware to Kies .
Kies then searches your phone for a matching product code hardware id and firmware id
PC xxxx OPUS hardware XXXX Opus Firmware 2.2.1
Stock does not match the codes so Kies has no upgrade for it .

Yesterday I've updated mu phone soft, but the newest version KIES found was i9100XXKE4 - looks like it's not the newest one (should be WEK4, dated on 25.05.2011). Does anyone know why KIES didn't show newer version and when it will be availible for my phone?
Best Regards, Jack

When the phone provider or network upgrade the firmware you get the upgrade from Kies . Phones product code determines the firmware .

I know it, but from what I know my phones wasn't from any phone carrier, it's a stock one, bought in a shop. Is it any way to determine is it stock phone (by serial number, by rom number) or bought from the carrier (mayby I'm wrong about it's origin)...
Answer is because KE4 is the latest available Polish firmware.
Ok, that should be an answer. But the question is, how long do You think it take Samsung to make latest rom availible for Poland?

Unknown... Nobody knows. TBH I'd use the standard "UK" or Europe one that is updated fastest on...
Ok, but how, if the KIES don't see any newer ones? If I change language in the phone, will it work? Are there any other options, that are recognized by KIES to determine my location, thus blocking newest software update? Some time ago I used KIES Registry editor when wanted to update my wife's Samsung Wave (S8500) to bada 1.2, but it was differernt (older) KIES and different system (bada).
Kies takes Product Code and a few other codes matches them to that specific firmware on the server for those codes .
I have never ever on SGS 1 or 2 managed to update firmware via Kies once stock rom flashed .

From the linked threat I can confirm, that my phone was unbranded - I had XKE2 and could update only to KE4. Looks like there is nothing more for me to do except: waiting for update via KIES or risk update by Odin. Tough choice for me...
I'm using a Czech T-mobile S4 GT-I9505 which is currently running firmware 4.3 (baseband I9505XXUEMKF) and am unclear about whether I'll be able to get an official update to 4.4.2 via my Singapore carrier (Starhub) at any point. I can't go via Kies, it says the device doesn't support firmware initialization.
Any advice would be welcome, thanks very much in advance.

1. Android 4.3 and android 4.4.2 use KIES 3.
2. When u conect ur phone to Kies 3, you dont need press Tools -> Firmware Upgrade and Initialization. The update, if u have any, will pop up automatically (example in pic 1 attached).
3. If Kies 3 tell u that can't update is coz the old owner installed one firmware with wrong CSC.
- Go to Kies 3 and you will see ur CSC (its your zone code) like the pic 2 attached.
- Knowing ur CSC, take a look for this firmware in Sammobile.com
- Download and flash it with ODIN (Dont flash a "Black EDITION" if ur phone isnt it)
- Enjoy
Thanks for the reply.
Actually, this was a new phone, but it was purchased as a grey market import. I should have said that I have tried to go via Kies but it tells me I have the latest firmware. So does the phone OTA update.
Could it be that the OTA update is still connecting to the update server for Czech S4 phones and there hasn't been a 4.4.2 rollout there yet? If so, it looks like I have to root it if I want to go to 4.4.2.
