Goodbye Fellow ARIA people - HTC Aria General

Well Today I took the leap into the most ridiculous phone on the market. I am now the proud owner of a Dell Streak 5". Let me tell you it is amazing. It's so big I can't even tell you. It dwarf's my brothers EVO 4g. I will keep my Aria as a backup but unless it the Dell breaks I don't see it coming back anytime soon. Thanks for all the help with the Custom Roms and info on the phone. I will be sticking around just in the Dell Streak forum.

congrats on you new streak 5. it must totally seem like a giant phone compare to the little aria, but that's what I like about it. the smaller size is a perfect match with my color nook running cm7. still have 13 more months before I can get a new upgrade. my aria is now so modified and customize that 13 month is not so bad

I was going to join you in the Dell Streak 5 club, but somehow stepped back.
A 5" tablet isn't something I want to keep carrying around in my pocket in place of a phone. Just my opinion. Tell me what you think!
I find the Aria small and comfortable to use.. as a phone.

Definitely agree with it being a bit large to fit in your pocket. I was looking at the atrix and the captivate and they both felt huge compared to the aria. Can't beat its portability.

To Streak or not...

just wondering if i should get an unlocked streak and retire my N1? Anyone with a streak please chime in...the one thing really are there any good roms for the streak and is it easy to root and how is the recovery image...i will be giving up cayenogen, ra recover...anything close for the streak???
Steve's Froyo is pretty much the only ROM I know of. It's really fast though.
I came from a Desire, the only reason to bother with the Streak is if you really want the extra screen real estate. I found the Desire to be more snappy and an overall better performer. I also prefer sense although I can live without it.
Would I make the same decision again??? I've already had the opportunity to... and I did
thanks for the reply. i alsways wanted to get one from day one, but its pretty hard when no one that i know of has one that i can play with. i have tried the captivate, droid x and even the new mytouch 4G. i have returned them all for they really didnt blow my N1 out of the water...there was no wow factor...so im in a delema on do i get the streak or wait till a dual core android comes out...im thinking that there shouldnt be one released till next year...is it true that the new unlocked streaks have an upgreaded hardware? thanks again?

nope, but it has 2.2 froyo
im pretty happy with my streak, comming from a htc touch pro for me this is the best thing happend. its the first time with a phone that people can accurately hear me and dont complain about the sound quality. the reception is also far superior to other phones i seen around. happy internetting while the majority is looking for a cellular connection.
im in the same boat bro,, im on a N1 too .. keep coming back to it..had a evo,vibrant,desire,hd2,and recently a hd7 that i returned cause didnt like the camera ...so im back to the N1 running 263 nightly super fast ,, but i saw the streak at besybuy and the screen size blew me away lol i was like wow imagine facebook or anything here lol huge...
so thats why im in here reading and ****... bestbuy selling the white version but of course ATT locked.. with 1.6 yeak..dell selling the unlocked version with 2.2 cool but delivery date says 12/8 or some like that .. damn im on tmo and kinda hate att ,,im not going to use thhis on edge no way ..meaning i would have to switch to att? is this really really worth it?

I know how it is on to keep coming back to the N1. now if caynogen made a rom for the streak that would be a no brainer...im also on the nightlies and yup its 263. the only other phone that kind of had me was the MT4G, but the reception sucks where i use my phone the most.
i almost pulled the trigger last night on the unlocked streak from dell's web site...but it says the delivery date will be 12-8-10 but it then gave me a delivery date of 12-21-10...now if i have to wait that long, i just might wait to see what everyone else has to say about it...and what new roms there will be...

Actually, I can vouch for this one too. Call quality for both ends of a call has been improved with the Streak.
One thing I noticed that was infinitely better on the Streak than the Desire... SPEAKERPHONE!!!
I could never hear anything on speakerphone while driving on my Desire, but the Streak is so loud that I actually have to turn it down little.
I've got one of the white Streaks from Best Buy coming in the mail (thanks Killster ) and I'm hoping it will be as simple to unlock as my other two Streaks were.
Captivate to Streak
Hey guys! I currently have a Samsung Captivate but am thinking of buying a new unlocked streak online which is rocking Froyo or heading over to my local best buy and picking up one of the white streaks they have in stock. So my question is this. I see that most everyone is using DJ Steve's Froyo rather than the Dell android 1.6. Does anyone know how the new Dell Froyo and Steve Froyo compare? I'm very impatient and Dell's website says the unlocked streaks will ship Dec. 11th. I've got money to burn and I don't know if I can make it three weeks for a shiny new phone/tablet android slice of perfection. I'm just happy that the streak's gps works. Captivate sucks!!! Any thoughts would be appreciated!
I have both a Nexus and a Streak. Honestly, I would hang onto your Nexus for a little while longer. I love my streak but I just keep coming back to the nexus with cyanogen. Plus, it would be tough to give up a Google experience phone. DJ Steve is awesome and hopefully will get cyanogen going on the streak but direct OTAs are hard to turn down.
My advice, do whatever it takes and have both. They're both awesome in their own ways.

thanks for your input, do you find yourself using the streak or N1 more on a daily basis?
I am really trying to make the streak my daily driver but as soon as I get home I am checking on the forums to see what new apps, tweaks, or roms there are for the nexus. Its hard to go from such a rich development community on the nexus to a 1 man show in DJ Steve (as good as he is).

Get the streak , you wont regret it. Its easily the best phone ive ever had. The size alone is the biggest selling point for me. I'll never go smaller than 5" again..
I just retired my N1 for good after getting my Streak up to official 2.2 + DJSteve/Fards tweak patch (via Smokku's instructions found here.
Having 5" for playing around with my favorite operating system is priceless. The hardware is fantastic quality. The only thing lacking is the camera, but lets be honest .. a $100 digicam is going to take 3x's as good of video and pictures if you really care about QUALITY.
Dell really put together a nice package with this mini-tablet / huge phone. I am a big guy .. 6'4" with hands that match my frame .. so this thing doesn't even feel THAT big in my hand. A week of having it with me, and I can't go back to the small screen, try as I might.
This thing screams just as loud as my N1 with the proper tweaks. It does really blow my mind how good the N1 was/is when you start trying to find phones out there standing tall above it.
Just as fast as any other 'droid phone .. but with a good .7" advantage on it's closest competitors (Droid X / Evo 4g).
Get this phone if you think you'll like the size. I am afraid nobody is going to make another 5" with the new dual-core stuff in the pipeline. The reason I am afraid is, I can't see myself going back to the smaller screens.
Any worried about the affording the Streak, Dell is including a $150 visa card for Black Friday sale. So u would actually be paying less than most of us.

THe white streak needs a special tool to upgrade from 1.6 to 2.2. I learned the hard way. Soft bricked twice lol. They are working on a tutorial for it now but if you can get into irc chat on channel #dellstreak they can help you out. I posted a thread about it in Modaco forum. DJ STEVES. 2.2 IS FAR superior to stock. I'm coming from a samsung captivate as well with all our problems it has it totally sucks. Streak just works.
I paid extra to buy the unlocked Streak with Froyo direct from Dell. Its a joke, it shipped with 1.6 and then a few minutes after starting up it popped up an "upgrade available" message. BUT it went smooth and only took about 20 minutes. So far this thing smokes a stock Captivate and the touchscreen is much better than the one on my old nexus. I do get the redirect error in the browser but not often.Unlocked streaks also don't need hacked to allow 3rd party app installation...you just click the box to allow it. This is the first device I've owned that I don't feel the need to hack the hell out of. It just works and I love it.

Possible next upgrade to streak

Hi folks,
I have a month left on my contract and looking at the streak or the DHD and it would be great if you guys who have the streak can leave your thoughts on why you chose it and what you like about it. The 'issue' I have at the moment is the way of charging it, not by USB. Ok its a small issue but I tend to have a charger connection at work and home just in case so would need to purchase another one (more expense lol)
The other thing is development as there only seems to be the one custom rom for it (please tell me if I am wrong).
So, benefits, nice massive screen is always good (coming from a Hero) and from what I have read its quite nippy too (has it the newer snapdragon or the older one?)
It either this or the DHD
Do a search mate there are lots of threads on people asking the same question and as far as development only Steve is doing it right now and he does a dam good job, one of the problems with development is Dell have not released the Source code until they do Steve can only do so much but he has done a lot better than dell.

Yeh I did a search but nowt. So, Dell are not releasing the source code? I thought this was against Googles rules?
I like HTC because theyre pretty good with updates and support and what not. What I don't like about their products is that theyre all nearly identical. As soon as they release a "ground breaking" product, they release another one that slightly tops it a month later.
I like the streak because theres no hardware (the screen) out there like it. Pair that with front cam, snapdragon, nice battery, and you have specs that rival the top of the game. Although the 1.6 os (for AT&T) is a joke, and theres only streakdroid as a custom rom, I find the streak community very supportive.
Streak is the best! Its only gonna get better as development increases. Get one, you should be able to return it within a month if you don't like it. Once you get used to the size, you can't go back. I never use my netbook anymore...
How many times in a day do you streak owners hear "Wow! Is that your phone!? Can i see it?"

Lemme summerize what ppl have been sayiing and how I feel about the streak. Amazing phone, obivously biggest advantage is the big screen, and trust me when I tell u this, when you go soooo big u won't be able to go back to 3.7 inches.
The biggest problem with the phone, the camera. If you are a camera person, do not get this phone. this is not to say the camera is crap, but its pretty bad for 5mp.
People have been telling me that they drop their phone and it wasn't a high drop and the screen broke, I drop my phone really hard on the bare ground from 4 feet high and nothing happened (alittle scartch on the back, nothing on the screen) regardless of what happens I have also heard dell will replace it without a big hassel.
I used an iPhone before this phone, and I like this phone better. I have many requests to trade phones from random strangers on the street when they see me using the phone, iPhone 4 users too. So if for some reason you don't like the phone I am sure it wont be hard to trade it up.

Get one man. I went from the iPhone 3g,S,4, HD2, Desire, EVO, and now this. I'm loving this bad boy. It puts the web and everything else in motion man. This screen is the biz. Couldn't wait so using BestBuy/ att locked version until my Dell unlocked comes in. My 30 days will be up on Feb 6 but phone supposed to be here by the 3rd! If not, will be returning this armed then buying it again to start a new 30 days. So wrong, but am I gonna do? Use my wifes Craptivate or the 3.5 iPhone sitting in my drawer? Nope. Can't wait for some Froyo goodness. I digressed some.
Sent from my freakn Dell Streakn! 3.5 retina? Get outta heh!
Thanks for the replies folks, I am hearing good things from both sides (my other option is the DHD) so if my provider will offer a test run then I will give both of them a whirl and judge that way. I am loving the screen size though. Its ideal. Just worried about development for it. Seems only one guy on the case?
Yeah but he's amazing we already have better that stock version of 2.2 running no problems. When I had stock my quadrant score was 800s now its 1500s and no overclocking.
So even its only one guy he is doing better work than 20 guys.

Cheers dude, I'm in England though
As other have said on here the Streak IMHO is probably the best device out there.
DJ_Steve may be the only person cooking a ROM for this thing but if he quit tomorrow i know that the 1.6.1 ROM that i'm running will be better than anything Dell ever puts out for this phone.
That being said if i had to choose another device i would probably got for the HTC Infuse on AT&T, which is the Desire HD for you. Same device, just different name.
Although, i'm biased, go with a Streak. You won't be sorry!
+1 for crappy camm...other than that, I luv my streak...only wish I could get dlna to work..would luv to stream my video library while on the crapper

I love the Streak. It is insane how great it is and how much I love showing it off.
The only thing in the pipeline now that I would consider instead of the Streak would be the new Motorola ATRIX. A seriously high-end dual-core processor phone would be a step up, I think. But other than that, there isn't much out there to get excited about.

[Q] Need Input... Atrix or Streak?

Hey Guys-
Picked up my Atrix yesterday (coming FROM A Galaxy S) ... noticed some battery drainage right off the bat...
anyways, wanted to get feedback from the community. Should I keep this phone (reliability) or am I better off trading it back for a streak?
Thank you!
Alex
u are going to get bias opinion on an Atrix forum
Definetly do not go to the streak. I actually returned the streak for the atrix. Even paid and extra 100 bucks. Although I loved the form factor, and it was pretty fast. It is extremly fragile, broke twice in a month once just by walking with it in my pocket in a otterbox! It has much worse battery life, and dell ****in sucks. The only thing I really miss is the screen, but the atrix is definitely a better phone. (I just hope the bootloader will get unlocked because the steak has a pretty good streakdroid rom)
*Not biased I really wanted to keep the streak.

Heres a quick comparison...
http://www.esato.com/phones/compare.php?phone=719&cp=759
I'd go atrix despite the problems. It's newer, better hardware, higher resolution, better camera etc etc..
Also, we ended up with about 60 streaks at my company. Within a few months of distribution we started hearing about cracked screens (LCD+Glass) So evidently they can be a bit delicate

I gotta do some research now... It was a toss up between this phone or the inspire or streak... I think I have my question answered now between the streak...but now this locked boot loader kind of has me frazzled.
Thank you!
I had the dell streak and it was great. But at time its to big. Trying to text was a pain. Went to the atrix everything is good but the speeds suck. I was getting better speeds with the dell streak. I really hope Att does fix it quick or else I'm jumping ship.

IF you need a phone, Id say go with Atrix, Streak is just too big for the phone. Also it is older hardware.
Returned my Streak for an Atrix.
The phone may not be too great right now but..... The updates coming soon will full unleash what It can do.
If I were you, Its personal preference.
The speed is GREAT on the Atrix. Change your launcher and I've heard the update helps too. I'm using SPB 3D launcher and the performance is amazing even with 5+ apps open.
Battery life is great on the Atrix. Resolution is higher than the Streak (or Captivate which I was used to). The extra resolution is quite useful for web browsing, etc. The locked bootloader is a bummer but there are already quasi-ROM's out there that take care of the important issues, WiFi hotspot, Themes, bloatware, etc.
All you are losing is the bigger screen, which I must say I would prefer, but you get a LOT for the trade-off.
Just got an update today that claimed to fix battery issues on the atrix. So that may not be an issue

I would see how Dell does in the Android market before i take the plunge. They have no track record, and are notorious for dropping complete product lines on a whim.
Not sour grapes, I have had good luck with servers and worstations - and I used to work there. But they need to prove to me they can make a phone and can support it before i even look at one.

So what system version & build # do you have now?
I had both phones. I came from a Streak to this. My brother owned the Streak, bought it in August.. i used it until i bought the Atrix and I have had the Atrix for about a month.
The Streak was nice. The Froyo update made it worthwhile. It is definitely not for everybody.
I had good battery life. Lasted me a full day no problems(captivate couldn't do nearly as good as the streak or atrix for me)
Streak is alot closer to Stock Android out of the box. Has a little bit of development going for it, but who knows if that will continue.
Bootloader isn't locked lol.
I really liked the Streak. Hated to see it go honestly.
My upgrade came up and I decided to grab an Atrix, my brother wanted me to sell the Streak for him.. they really are not comparable directly, but the atrix is going to get carrier supported updates for a while longer while the Streak will get killed off and not supported soon.

I want a Streak, but is it for me?

Hey Guys,
I'm so intrigued by the dell steak i've been wanting to get one for myself since January of this year. Back in March I almost got one when looking for a replacement for my Samsung Captivate, but I ended up getting the HTC Inspire instead. Now it's been quite a few months and I'm bored of this phone again so i'm thinking about looking for anyone that's willing to trade, or I might just sell this phone and buy the streak. However, I'm worried that things that I really love about my Inspire I won't find in the streak:
- The camera and flash. I think the camera on this phone is great and I always find myself taking pictures at family events and the like.
- The speed. This phone is FAST. At least for me. And I really don't want to downgrade to a slower phone.
- The physical feel. It feels solid and heavy in my hand. I love that feeling. I know that it can take some beating and i won't have to worry about it breaking.
- the ability to play games. The inspire is powerful enough to play most all games smoothly these days.
So guys, if I decide to get a streak will I be losing any or all of the things that I enjoy about?

Hey Aaron.....
I understand your dilemma...... I found myself in a similar situation about a month ago.....
Having had my Streak for a month, I have absolutely NO regrets whatsoever. Prior to that, I had a Nexus S, and before that, an HTC G2. I'd used wife's iPhone 4, but really wanted to stick with Android. The MINUTE I saw the Streak, I had to have it. The camera is not the greatest, but for quick shots, it's more than adequate for me. The overall design of the Streak, coupled with it's unequalled screen size, far, FAR outweigh any perceived negatives others may have (notice I said "others", because I haven't found any real problems with the Streak WHATSOEVER).
Good luck with your decision, and let us know what you end up with.....
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
1-more thing...... I do have a single, significant issue after using my Streak for only a month... and that is this.... I absolutely CANNOT go back to a smaller-screen device even if it wanted to (seriously).
We were at Disney a few weeks back, and got into a debate that required a quick Wikipedia lookup to settle... Having left my Streak in the hotel room, I attempted to use wife's iPhone to prove I was right . I swear, within 20-minutes I developed a severe headache after trying to scroll, pinch, zoom and squint to read that postage stamp-sized "retina" display (really).
Just giving you ALL of the facts
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Ahh thanks for your response. The main reason I want it is the huge screen!! Thanks I'm looking for one now and am very excited =-].
Aaron.... Good luck with your search and let me know what you end up with (if you don't mind)... THANKS!
Another question. How is the processor speed on the streak? My phone is powerful enough to run the latest apps and games. I assume the dell would be a little weaker? Thanks in advance.
I have not found anything that is taxing to the streak. Only things that will be significantly faster are the new dual core phones.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Aaron.....
The only phone I've had that's faster than the Streak was my previous Nexus S..... and it was not significantly faster, only marginally faster IMO.
There are custom ROMS you can install that can probably overclock the Streak. Mine is a plain Jane, factory-unlocked Froyo version. Only modding I've done was to delete Dell's "Stage" widgets and installed "Launcher Pro", so I could increase the number of icons and give home screens the "rotating cube" effect.
I can tell you that I can run TurboFly on it without ANY screen redraw pixelization or slow down.
Hope this helps

I like your posts and feedback above very much. Kindly solve my problem as well.
Ever since streak was out, I have always desired to possess this. An year back I had Samsung Spica and currently I have an LG Optimus One. CM 7 runs amazingly fast on it and we have crossed 75fps in neocore. And above all I have just fallen in love with the GB audio effects and cannot think of anything without the gb audio effects.
But I seriously wish to update to a larger screen. And if we talk of large screen, nothing can beat streak. So what do you suggest in my case?

hey aaron i used to have the htc inspire and its a great phone but i got bored with it really quick and after playing with the dell streak a few times i fell in love with it . as a heads up the dell streak is not perfect but because its not it makes the phone more fun that you are really able to mess with it and really make it your own . i sold my HTC real quick . just remember some apps will run and look better on the streak and some will look better on the htc but there is always a fix for the streak . oh one more thing once you go 5inch screen there is no going back .
thanks for your responses guys. =-]. i really want it but i'm having trouble finding anyone looking for a trade =-/
Best of all the android version is almost a vanilla version,it gets better once you root it and remove the bloatware. After installing all the stock versions I decided to stick with version 318 one of the oldest but the less laggy when it comes to DELL Stage.
And yes I think it should be for you.
Check your PM aaron

Goodbye nexy :(

I would like to thank all of the awesome devs here in the Nexus One forum. You've taken me from a android noob, to a not-so-noobish noob. I'm still learning but I've recently got a One X. My N1 went south when it took up smoking and well.... It blew up. That's what you get for overclocking it way to much. But I would like to thank each and everyone of you for being awesome. Nexus One, You honestly changed me as a person and opened a whole new goal in life.
Okay enough of the rambling, I'm off to enjoy my 1X.
Take care guys.

yeah thank you all
I bought XPERIA S
Evervolv for ICS rom
Sad... I'm going to change my phone soon too, but the Nexus 1 will stay in my heart!
Am i the only one noticing that Jay_Rulen said thanks for leaving? LOL So you think it is good of him to leave?
I moved on to the Galaxy SII and will miss my N1. Thanks for the good times everyone!
whoa that's really sad, nd its great that u got one x, which is a successor of our nexus one
I'm in a similar boat. I recently had to replace my N1, and it will be sorely missed. Especially the LED trackball! Sadly enough, the google nexus is too big for my taste, and I didn't really want to spend $400 up front on a new phone so I picked up another phone instead.
I've vowed though, that as long as the next Nexus device is sized more like what I prefer, I will buy it!
I can't believe it, but I'm saying goodbye to my trusty N1 too. I'm still going to keep it around for media stuff around the house, but I got to get me some of that LTE. And IMO, the HTC One X is the first phone that is a true successor to the Nexus One.

Indeed it is, It is the nexus 2. Only HTC can create such ground breaking devices.

My N1 is still alive, but I have moved on to the galaxy nexus and I also find the screen is a little too big for my liking. Screen colour is also sub-par comparing to the N1, I never see proper white colour being displayed even after adjusting RGBs and gamma values.
I bought the japanese galaxy nexus for around $325usd, shipped to hong kong via yahoo auction jp a month ago.
Though I am still flashing different roms on my N1 to play with
Kept my N1
I still use the N1 when I travel and put prepaid SIM's or my own SIM in it. It is smaller than the Inspire and then the Galaxy Nexus that followed it. If it would take ICS, I would probably be using it more. I really like ICS over Gingerbread and the extra zip of the dual core.
Anyway, it stays in my travel bag as a spare.

that sucks man. but i'm looking at exchanging my n1 for 1x as well
i'm selling my last nexus one now. it's in perfect shape and i'll get around $300 US for it in my country where imports are closed. i got to sell it now or never! i've moved to a gnex but i'll miss my first real phone.
Same here ... I'm moving to GNex now that price is affordable ...
I'm a bit sad because I really enjoyed the first nexus ... It was a pleasure to play with hundreds of custom roms and get support from this awesome devs community.
Thanks to all you awesome guys!
I'm planning to sell my Nexus One,,as the First Android device, this Smartphone has served me with pleasure... The devs are awesome as well...But the world is changing..Need better Specs now..I will miss my Sexy Nexy the most !!
