My hero buttons are failing so now my home button does not work and my click ball button does not work. I want to install CM7 but I can't do it since I cannot select wipe/install from recovery since my click ball does not work. Is there an easy way to wipe and install using adb? Thanks for the help
Look up fastboot install..or wait for someone to point you in a more specific direction haha. I don't have time to look for something exact right now

I'd use adb to flash Amon_RA's recovery since it lets you use the volume keys and receive call button to substitute for the trackball.

Worked great until i had a bad flash. Now I cannot select recovery from the bootloader since my home button does not work.
Anyone know how to get into recovery if the home button does not work?
Using adb:
Code:
Adb reboot recovery
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
adb reboot recovery
Locked & Loaded

keep getting device not found. I am plugged in, switched to fastboot. Device manager has ADB interface --> HTC Bootloader.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb start-server
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb.exe shell
error: device not found
Any thoughts?
Got it. Nevermind.

I have tried it many times and every time it just loads normally. Any idea's Thanks
I just pushed my finger in the middle of the volume +/- and made sure I heard two clicks then gave the power button a go.
Of course after I rooted mine I went to the market and installed terminal and now I just use the "reboot recovery" from terminal because I'm to lazy to do the 3 finger dance any more.
if you have root.. go into Terminal and type in
Code:
su
reboot recovery
The easiest way is through adb.
1. Find your USB drivers for your phone in this thread.
2. Enable USB debugging and Stay awake in Menu>Settings>Applications>Development
(Stay awake isn't necessary, but it's nice when you're doing any extended work on your device)
3. Go to set up your SDK.
(This might seem tedious, but if you're going to do anything serious here you will need the tools.)
4. Connect your data cable from your computer to your phone.
5. After the four steps above are done, open command prompt and enter the following:
1.
Code:
adb devices
(This should be followed by something resembling)
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\Steve>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached

C:\Users\Steve>
Click to collapse
2.
Code:
adb reboot recovery
(This will reboot your phone into recovery)
Note - if you ever need to get into the Downloading Screen you can type in the following:
Code:
adb reboot download
You should still find yourself comfortable with the Vol Up + Vol Down + Power version though as Vol Up + Vol Down + Power + Home = Reboot and this is handy if you don't want to pull your battery to reboot from bad push from Odin.
Welcome to the club
Final Note - If you happen to be in a powered off state and want to go to download state, the easiest way to do this is to hold Vol Up + Vol Down at the same time and and then plug in your data cable to the phone. You will go straight to download state.
If you're rooted I use an app called Quickboot that'll reboot/reboot to recovery/reboot to bootloader.
Never mind...
hey, i had a hard time as well but it's very easy. placing your whole left thumb over the volume up and down button (pressing them both down) and also pressing the power button with my left pointer finger (same hand)... pressing them both and holding until the phone comes on and then let go. don't hold the buttons thinking it will go into recovery while holding.. you must release the buttons as soon as the screen comes on (usually saying Samsung at the bottom in white)
Hey, so I got my Evo earlier this week. I wanted to root it, and, simply put, it went terrible. I'm now stuck on the white screen that says "hTc EVO 4G" and it won't pass that point.
My hboot data:
Supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT- 2.02.0000
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELc03_16ac
RADIO- 2.15.00.09.01

I've searched all day for similar instances, but in all the instances I found resolved, the person had already rooted, or had some sort of backup to turn to. Me being the amateur I am, failed to do either.
Please Help
What root method did you try? Because you have hoot 2.02 you need to use a specific method. The guide can be found in the development form. In that thread is directions to reflash the stock rom.

hit vol up until the cursor is highlighting fastboot. then hit power to select. use volume keys to navigate to reboot and hit power. or you can just pull the battery.

I don't think he is stuck on the bootloader screen...I think he is stuck on the splash screen.
I'm trying the "hboot 2.02 S-OFF like a boss" method, but I'm stuck on the adb pushing part.
When trying adb push I get this:
C:\Users\Richie\Documents\Evo\hboot202-s_off-V71>adb push root/unrevoked-forever
.zip /sdcard/
adb server is out of date. killing...
ADB server didn't ACK

I tried adb shell and this is what shows up:

I am running WIndows 7 64-bit
I have the same problem I have tried everything no luck.
does your phone show up in? adb devices
my phone does not show up in adb devices, it will show up in fastboot devices, when I go to fastboot flash recovery recovery.img it starts to flash and and then locks up phone.
I downloaded ruu 4.54.651.1.
when installing the ruu go to start, run, cmd, type %temp%
leave your mouse on the folders to highlight and see the size of the folders.
look for anything over 200mb
inside you will find the rom.zip, you have to search while ruu is running other wise
when ruu is complete the files delete. copy and paste rom.zip. then put on the sdcard and lable PC36IMG.zip
(make sure the rom is not labled zip.zip)
here is what I get in hboot vol up to update
parsing sd zip
1 radio v2 OK
2 recovery REBOOTs phone
3 bootloader OK
4 wimax
5 splash1
6 boot
7 userdata
8 system
reboots and comes back to bootloader
1 recovery ok
2 wimax ok
3 splash ok
4 boot ok
5 user data ok
6 system ok
finishes do you want to reboot device vol up yes
reboots back into boot loop, no recovery, adb devices nothing listed, fastboot devices has my serial number
but when I try to command fail bad signature.
I am s-on
hboot 2.16.0001
radio 2.15.00.080
stumped can anyone shed some light?
its the 64 bit windows giving the problem, i would think... windows 64 sux with drivers, try vm virtualbox
i also have hboot 2.16 and same on the othere stuff and am stuck in bootloop but i have a thread
Ubuntu
Rather than trying a virtual machine, you can download a version of Ubuntu linux that will run off boot (may need to enable in bios) with a flash drive (thumb stick) or CD.
After installing this theme Theme Animation for RCMix3D Runny 1.3 posted by liamstears, my dhd failed to boot, it stuck at the htc white screen for more than 3hrs now. The problem is, the volume key is faulty, so, i cant boot into bootloader.
I need help to bootloader so that i cant enter recovery and restore my phone. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Try if you have the Android SDK installed you can try to run
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
or
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Just make sure your phone is plugged in.
Or remove battery and press and hold volume down, and power. It'll get you to recovery

Thanks for the reply, downloading the sdk package now. But, since the phone is not booting, how do I connect it to the computer? With the screen off or while the phone is at the htc white screen? Elaborate pls. Thanks a lot.

problem solved, thanks everyone.
I tried unrooting my phone, but it got stuck in a boot loop.
When I try to enter to recovery mode to factory reset I get an android lying on its back with a red triangle.
I've tried a bunch of combinations of buttons, but the phone just turns off if I hold power + volume up.
In cmd prompt on the PC type: adb reboot recovery. That should work.

that is the stock recovery. what you want to do is flash the factory img via the bootloader/fastboot.
You have the buttons right, but you don't really hold the two down. It's a bit tricky but once you figure out the exact way to do it, it's easy.
Press and hold the power button then immediately after press volume up. Then let go. The menu will appear.

I have USB debugging on, re-installed the device driver and under device manager it shows Samsung Android ADB device.
Still says device not found.

Your device should be called Nexus 4 and not Samsung. Install the drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996051, after that connect the phone through usb, look in device manager and delete the device. Reconnect again and choose manualy wich drivers to install and choose the driver you just installed. Now your device is called Nexus 4.
your stock recovery over wrote your custom recovery and that made the little android with the triangle come up. all you have to do is reflash a custom recovery using fastboot.
go to zedomax channel at www.nexus4root.com and he gives you video instructions using the cmd on your computer
Try this:
Go into bootloader and recovery
You will see the android with the red triangle
hold power and press volume up (tricky part)
wipe cache
If this doesnt work try doing a factory reset instead
Someone please comment with help! My phone was rooted and I flashed TWRP and saved a restore rom of "Stock Root". My phone must have gotten warm and now it only boots into TWRP. I have tried flashing my recovery (Doesn't work), using ADB Sideloader (Never Finishes running), Using Terminal Command (how do I navigate to Start Folder?), and using ADB commands to push file. The big problem I am seeing is my computer is saying that drivers aren't installed. I re-install the drivers I used when I rooted but still nothing. I run adb devices and it is not listed. I just want to get back to my stock root or be able to flash a CM stable. Please help!
I have been all over this site and it is always helpful but this time my searches have not led to sucsess...
Download and install koush adb drivers and then pc will see ur phone and I guess u know the rest.

1. Turn device off by holding power key down until bootloop stops.
2. Hold power, down volume and where the home key would be.
3. choose yes factory reset, should take you back to recovery....

Here is the original directions I followed. Saved my phone. Only works if you have flashable ROM in recovery.
The key thing here is hold the power and vol down and then where the home screen is normally on your blank screen hold down all 3
