One of the easiest ways is to format the card from the device. If you are still on the B&N OS, insert the SD card into the device when it already fully started. Then press the on screen launcher, select ”Settings,” then “Device Info,” then “SD Card,” and then just select “Unmount SD card” followed by “Format SD card.” If you running CM 7, the directions are similar, press the menu key, then select “Settings,” locate the SD card menu, and then just unmount and format.

Solution for those who messed up their SD Cards.

To begin with, I recently messed up my 4GB SD Card. Why? I was not paying attention on details when I was reformating the SD Card. The end result was my 4GB SD Card turned into a 1GB SD Card. I was not worried for my SD Card has life time warranty, so my ultimate solution would be to just have it exchanged. But being a very curious dude, I started experimenting for a solution and found one.
OBSERVATIONS:
1st: AKU2 ROMs prefer SD Cards with FAT format. Thus, you can use 4GB SD Cards without any problem.
2nd: AKU3 ROMs can use both SD Cards with either FAT or FAT32 format. But I would still STICK WITH THE FAT FORMAT.
SOLUTION TO MY ENCOUNTERED PROBLEM: (You think a simple reformat will solve it using the menu under "My Computer" using a card reader, it did not work on mine.) So here are the steps on what will work:
1st: You need WM5torage installed to your Universal's Internal Memory. I'll attach a copy at the end of this post.
2nd: You need your Universal.
3rd: Place the troubled SD Card to your Universal's SD Card slot.
4th: Make sure in WM5torage, both "Read Only" and "Removable Class" is UNTICKED.
5th: Activate WM5torage.
6th: Connect your Universal via USB.
7th: From this point on, all the steps below will be done on your computer.
8th: Wait for "My Computer" to show the presence of the SD Card.
9th: Go to Start>Control Panel>Performance & Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Computer mangement.
10th: Click on Disk Management.
11th: Scroll and highlight the drive you want to repair or format.
12th: Right click on selected drive and select FORMAT.
13th: You can rename the volume label if you wish.
14th: Make sure file system is FAT format.
15th: Allocation unit size is DEFAULT.
16th: Check the box for QUICK FORMAT.
17th: Select OK.
There you go. I now got back my full 4GB SD Card and fully operational on my Universal. Wheeeeeeewwww!
You might want to replace steps 8 to 11 with the following
7th: Wait for "My Computer" to show the presence of the SD Card.
8th: From this point on, all the steps below will be done on your computer.
12th: Right click SD Card and select FORMAT.

Great work,
I don't have this issue, but it is always nice to keep in mind
Thanks,

will this work with a card that is no longer recognised (doesnt think there a card there) due to a format error?

YES, tried this too with my very old 2GB card that I screwed up long ago and thought it was gone for good. Plus, it won't hurt to try.

Move files from ext2 partition from one sd to another

Hey all,
In a bit of a pickle. I bought a new sd card that is faster than my previous 4GB and was wondering if there was a way where i could mount the partition and copy the data such as apps and caches from the 4GB to the new 16GB? The windows partition i'm not worried about. I loaded up my old Linux box with Ubuntu on it and when i try to open the ext2 partition it says that i don't have permissions. I tried to sudo it but still no avail.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
easiest way to do it:
install amon ra's latest recovery
boot to recovery with your old SD card in the phone.
select the "go to console" option
type utility at the prompt
select the "back up apps to FAT" option
return to the main recovery menu
mount the sd card from recovery
copy the contents to your computer
unmount the card
remove the card and plug in the new one
partition the new card
mount the card
copy the files from earlier back onto the newly partitioned new card
unmount the card
go to the console again
enter utility again
select the "restore apps to EXT" option
reboot and you're done.
sounds like a lot of steps, but its really quite simple and gets the job done clean.

Better yet use ASTRO FILE MANAGER to back-up apps on sd from ext 2 -3....copy files on fat32 to computer then re-copy to new SD card (after partitioning) and restore from Astro again...alot faster but both will work!
The reason why i did this way cause nandroid copies everything and might paste junk back to the new card that caused the issue in the first place! Clean start!!!!!!
Thanks kusotare & djdarkknight96.
You guys are life savers. I followed kusotare's method and it worked a treat. Now i have space and speed!
Cheers to you both!

migrate sd card

Hi,
I have a nexus one with Rom MIUI.
I have a sd card with these partitions:
3.16 GB -> FAT32
488 MB -> EXT 4
61 MB -> SWAP
I would like to migrate the sd card to one that I have of 16GB. What steps should I do to can migrate all.
Many thanks and sorry for my english!
Copy the contents of the card to a computer, partition new card and copy the backups to the appropriate partitions.
I'm going to assume your are running a custom ROM here, if your not, these directions may not work for you.
I actually just did this yesterday myself, so I can give you instructions on how I did it. I use CM7 with Apps2SD, and I'm assuming your MIUI is usind Apps2SD as well.
**With original SD card installed**1. Boot into recovery
2. Make a full backup (SYSTEM+SD-ext). The backup is stored on the SD card.
3. Now hook the phone up to your computer and copy the entire contents of the SD card to a folder on your computer (this can be done while in recovery or while booted into OS, it doesn't matter)
4. Shut down phone and remove original SD card and install new SD card
**With new SD card installed**5. Boot into recovery
6. Partition SD card the same as it was before (most common is SD-ext=1024, Swap=0, rest as USB storage, or whatever it's called)
7. While still in Recovery, mount the SD card as USB storage and hook the phone up to your PC
8. Take the files that you copied from your original SD card and copy them to the root of your new SD card (don't just drag and drop the fold you put the files in, but rather open up the folder and copy the contents of the folder over so that it looks just as it did when you had the original SD card installed)
9. This step can probably be skipped, but I did it anyway out of habit more than anything, but wipe and format SYSTEM, all CACHE options, and SD-ext, and BATTERY.
10. Still in RECOVERY, you'll want to select the option to RESTORE. It'll list all previous restores, just pick the latest one.
11. Once that is done, REBOOT SYSTEM and you should be up and running.

Help.

I burned an image of touch nooter on a kingston 4gb micro sdcard using Win32image. I right clicked the drive of the card on Win7 and did a full and quick format to erase the image. When I wiped out the touchnooter image from the card, it gave me a space of only 76mb and not the whole 4gb default space.
Any suggestions oh how to get the full 4gb storage back?
Start - Run - diskmgmt.msc
Find your SD card there (Removable G: for example)
You will see it has 2 or more partitions.
Delete all partitions and then create new Simple volume from one big unallocated space you got and format it to FAT32.
Make sure you are deleting partitions of your SD card or you can kill all your data and system.

I went to disk management but I could only see one partition for the card.
You can use an android device to format the card back to normal. If the nook touch is the only android device you have do this.
Put the sd card in the nook touch
tap the n button on bottom
tap 'settings'
tap 'Device Info'
tap 'SD Card'
tap 'Unmount SD Card', if it is available
tap 'Format SD Card' when it is available
after it does it make sure unmount SD card is not highlighted then you can pull the SD card back out.
You can use SDFormatter for windows to fix your SD card and get the total space visible again.
Cheers

This method worked. Great guideline. Thanks.
I tried SDFormatter too but no go.
I had the same problem after rooting but I solved it by using SDFormatter in Windows (version: SDFormatterv3.0.zip ).
Formar the sd card with the nook

Memory card isnt mounting in stock reqovery

I flashed my mobile a few days ago. But after flashing stock rom My memory card isnt mounting in stock recovery. Help me plz.
copy all sd card contents to pc
If you have any 2nd partitions delete them first using mini tool - if not move onto next steps
boot phone normally
goto
settings
storage
unmount sd card
format/erase sd card
your card should now be mountable in recovery (you can then create a 2nd partition in cwm if you want - note this will format sd card again)
you can then copy everything back to sd card
