You need to unlock your bootloader first (see sticky in dev section about pudding) then you need to install the unlocked only version of CWM recovery. After that just download the zip and flash it as you would have flashed p-roms like gingerblur

I'm wondering if anyone has found out how to flash the new 2.3.6 update on a phone with an unlocked bootloader? I tried the OTA update before but just fails. I'm running stock 2.3.4 rooted and unlocked with CWM recovery.
Safest way is to flash 2.3.6 fruitcake found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009

Official 2.3.6-1.5.141.sbf alternative see here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490283&page=4 read carefully and never use rsdlite/sbf to flash back to a lower firmware revision. Confirmed hard brick if you do.
Hopefully someone will make a fruitcake of the 1.5.141 build soon. I tried but Rom Factory/Fruitcake maker v1.6.1.9 doesn't work on my phone.

So I just download the 236 zip, put it on my SD card, and flash it with CWM?
EDIT: Well I tried that but nothing happened. After I flashed it, I rebooted the phone and it was still on 2.3.4. Not sure what went wrong.
Like penderway mentioned, the OP of the fruitcake thread doesn't have the latest Att version posted. Someone posted a link on the last few pages of the thread and its the one I used to update.
Not sure what went wrong on your first attempt but I've flashed both versions successfull. Make a backup to be safe.Good luck flashing

Ok, I managed to get everything working by following this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22648699&postcount=577
I just downloaded all 4 zip files, put them on my SD card, and flashed them one by one in CWM recovery. Everything seems to be working. Settings shows 2.3.6 as android version and 4.5.141 as build number.
I bought a used defy that had already been flashed and i don't like the rom.
The idea was to downgrade it to its original rom or change to another one directly.
But i couldn't find my CG version, how do i find it?
I have a green defy, which rom can i flash?
Can i do it directly or i have to do the downgrade?
My phone:
- android version: 2.3.7
- System version: MIUI-203160
Thx!
Since you have MIUI I think you got Gingerbread kernal
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
u have froyo kernel as miui is based on froyo kernel(i think)
ur boot loader cg version should be 4...

Thank you all for answering!
But, i'd like to know if i should do the downgrade or flash other rom directly?
And, what rom should i flash?
Try to flash a Froyo, maybe a deblurred one... If it works, you have a cg4 bootloader. If not, you have a newer bootloader and downgrade is more difficult.
After flashing Froyo, i advise to install CM7. Maybe you like that.
Hi,
So..I have a SGS running gingerbread 2.3.4!
I want to root it and upgrade to CM10. I need your help :
-the safest way to root my phone; i bricked it in the past
-a final CM10 os,not a beta
Here are my phone specifications :
-Model: GT-I9000
-Firmware version: 2.3.4
-Baseband version: I9000XXJVQ
-Kernel version: [email protected] #2
-Build number: GINGERBREAD.XFJV9

you need to upgrade this to 2.3.6, either use Ezboot or a jvu+root from My Android Collections to get it done after you have done the full wipes , once you have 2.3.6 running, root it with the file downloaded together with JVU or a semaphore GB kernel
after that read this and you can use whatever ROM you have chosen to use
Can someone give me a video or another way?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
personally i did it:
flash GB as said via odin.
flash 2.7.4 semaphore kernal via odin.
flash Cm9 via recovery
flash latest CM10 twice
Flash JB Gapps....
job done.
obviously ensure you have cm9 and 10 on your sd card prior

Here is a more complete guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546&highlight=jw4
After you have CM9 it's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526
However you should read more about EFS backup, Odin, download mode, recovery mode, bootloops, just to be prepared for possible hiccups.

You don't need root for update any fw to cm10, cm9 etc.
Just:
1. flash with ODIN alternate kernel (Semaphore_kernel_JVR_1.4.0.tar) for your's 2.3.4;
2. download and copy to phone sdcard .zip with preferred cyanogen;
3. install these .zip from CWM in Recovery menu.
That's all.
Has someone used this one /\?? I think i'm gonna do it.btw, what semaphore does?

I used to dual boot my phone and play with some of the custom samsung based rom and i was on lph baseband version on my primary rom and i installed samsung based custom rom which is based on LQ6 baseband version then after playing with secondary rom i removed it and came back to stock 4.0.4 and i realized my rom baseband version is changed same as secondary...
so if anyone wants to change their baseband version without affecting their data can boot secondary rom with requried baseband version.
Thanks for your time.
There's no trick. Baseband (modem) has absolutely nothing to do with your data. How you managed to get a dual boot working, and yet not know this basic fact is beyond me

Here you go. Flash it from CWM. Baseband is independent of ROM. You can flash any baseband on any ROM. Even GB ones on ICS or JB

Hello.
I have the following phone details:
SGH-I337M
Android Version 4.2.2
Baseband Version i337UCUAMF3
Kernel version 3.4.0-812098
Build Number JDQ39.I337UCUAMF3
I rooted my phone.
I should install a recovery method Like CWM on my phone and then I can install any rom? or it must be rom that is 4.2.2?
You have a rom you can recommend me that is multi-language?
Thanks!
Josef.
EDIT:
I installed Safestrap-JFLTEATT-3.65, how do I flash a rom now? does it have to be 4.2.2?
?

Take safestrap off and use cwm or twrp. With cwm or twrp you can flash any rom you want.

If you have a Canadian phone it will be i337m, if it is a US phone it is i337. Looking at your build and base band it looks like an i337. You want to make sure your using the right procedure and rom for your phone, they are not interchangable between i337 and i337m.
