[Q] Abnormal sound when switching the screen off - Galaxy 3 General

Hey guys i'm trying to report a weird problem with the sound of my G3 when trying to play music. Whenever i start up the stock music player and play music, when i switch off the screen, i hear a weird cracking sound being emitted by the earphones. It's like an abnormal sound coming from the mobile itself through the jack. I've also tried and used my PC stereo speakers and other earphones but the problem persists.
This happened right after i flashed my mobile for the first time 3 months ago. Whenever i switch off or switch on the screen while listening to music, the same sound is emitted. I could really use some help right now dealing with this as it completely ruins the sound output. Also this happens only when switching the screen off or on while doing a sound related activity on the phone such as listening to music or playing games.
On a side note, the mini stock music player that appears on the lock screen shows a significant lag while switching from one song to the other when using Froyo. This isn't the case with any of the 2.1 Eclair rom's i've used, where the player was very responsive and quick while switching between songs.

Seriously nobody on the forum experienced the same problem, if not can anybody tell me the reason why this is happening to my mobile?

It seems you didn't search the forum before posting this issue. This is a known issue with stock Froyo based ROMs. The only solution for this is to flash Fugumod 2.4 Beta3 kernel which resolves many such issues and the above issue is one of them.

So the kernel G3Mod 1.3.2 ultimate that you've been using isn't having such problems? k thx a lot for your signature.

G3mod has this problem but its not frequent, and it would be fixed probably in the next version. The fugumod version mentioned by me above doesn't.have this bug.

Last time i checked the fugumod 2.4 beta 3 800MHz version didn't work well and led to a lot of freezes and crashes. Also tried the 1.3ghz one and had the same problems. The G3Mod 1.3.2 ultimate is by far the most bug-free kernel i've used, and everything is working perfectly except this annoying problem.

Try using the Ram Optimation Script, it has solved the lag issue for many users. Here's the link for that thread:

MP3 playback speed problem

My girlfriend's elf plays mp3s faster than their real speed. The pda was mine before and I hadn't noticed this because I didn't use it for listening to music.
I've searched through the forums without success, the only thread I found says that I have to call myself on and the playing speed jumps back to normal. wtf!? Which seems to be true.
Anyone can help me to solve this problem? This is a must have feature for my gf and I really don't want to sell this cute elf. MP3 playback is faster as a ringtone, too.
me too have the same problem..at first i thought it was because of the 4gb sdcard i use, but then i realise that was not the cause..i listen to mp3 a lot using my elf and everytime the problem occur, i have to soft reset my device..thats the only way to have it play by normal speed back..
I thought I was the only one having this problem, I don't usually use my phone as an mp3 player but this can be really annoying.
I don't think it's a ROM problem because I've changed my ROM 3 times already and still this occurs.
I hope someone can give us a fix for this.
my elfin plays mp3 and other audio files faster too... but then video playback seems normal for me... my workaround to this problem is to plug the original htc earphone, unplug, and it plays normal again...
any more useful fix for this problem???
Do you use software to overclock the processor's clock? (omapclock, batterystatus, etc.) I'll try this on the weekend and fire up a new rom, too. SRSWow is just for the quality of the sound, am I right? Or should I give it a try?
overclocked or not, playback is still fast
switching roms doesn't help (tried Onyx 5, 6, Miky, Mega, Ahen roms)
plugging in and out of the earphones is my only solution
EDIT:
is there an app that 'tricks' windows that a headset is plugged??

I don't know such an app but I think we can call ourself on by code which seems to work. Doing this in every 10-60, etc. minutes could solve the problem but this method is the last one I want to use. Would be really ugly.
Have you tried srswow hd? There was a thread where somebody said that could help. (And others said it doesn't.)
Anyway, I think we have to watch for windows messages. Get the messages invoked by the headset plug in and out and others that related. Maybe we will find something
Unfortunately, I don't have better idea.
I already tried srswow and it doesn't help
I'm also trying htc hardware equalizer, but same effect as srswow
even tried other media players like coreplayer, tcpmp, audio manager but none worked...
Several tims I have also faced the same issue "Fast Play MP3" but In Onyx I never faced this issue...
@premsoni4u
which Onyx ROM are you using?
Because currently I'm using Onyx Ultimate 4.9 and I'm still having the same problem.
It's not just the mp3, folks...
It's actually everything that has to do with audio on our devices... from your ringtones, sms alerts, even the system sounds.
it sucks big time... i don't think anyone's found a solution to this yet.
No audio playback speed problem in Onyx 6 series!!!

Presently I am using Onyx 6, Release-7, WM6.5 and never faced this issue in any version of onyx 6 series.
Today I am going to flash Onyx 4 series (Specially 4.9 ultimate version) to check the issue and will report you guys, if issue persists...
Hey guys I would like to jump in the wagon.
I'm having the same problem too
I'm using the dsixda's ONYX 4.9 JR version
Anyone can give a hand on this problem? It's really frustrating
hi guys
i have the same problem with you guys for a long time
in fact its since the very first time i used my elfin with a cooked ROM
until today no one have a fix for this
i've posted this problem a number of times
only solution for now is to reset the phone
but it's kinda annoying to keep resetting a couple of times a day
but when i tested it with 6.5 ROMS this problem doesn't occur
Anyone?
This problem is becoming increasingly annoying... In the span of 6 months or so that we've been having this problem, I noticed that the frequency of the problem manifesting itself has increased...
I used to have the same problem earlier. At that time, I used to reset my phone and it used to start playing mp3s at proper speed.
I currently have the latest Onyx Rom (link in my signature) and I've never faced the problem after installing this ROM. Maybe if the problem persists, try using a different player (Nitrogen is my favorite).
Can any1 help me.. MP3 songs are playing a bit fast in My touch..
facing the same problem... any luck guys?
hi all
i had same problem but i but one day i dissemble my htc and i clean speaker wire with thiner after that i it pleay normal it's work for me but i am not sure try once

Another solution is just dial any number and make your phone on speaker. once you hear voice on speaker just disconnect and again you are able to play music on your elf/in at normal speed...
(Tip: Just dial your own number so you will hear only busy beep and no other will be disturbed)

The most irritating issue on G3 !

I have noticed that almost all the issues which cropped up in Eclair or Froyo versions of G3 were resolved one way or the other. However, one issue that still remains (atleast for most of us from what i can gather) is the audio issue.
It has been frequently reported that while playing music, a "crackling" or "radio static" noise is heard, especially in the silent portions of a track. I have tried almost everything to resolve this - played the same track on other mobiles to discount the possibility of inferior track quality, adjusted equalizer, changed kernels, flashed different ROMS (Stock & Custom), Rebuilt audio values etc. but the problem remained. The only possible reason i can think of is whether voodoo affected my settings since that was implemented in Fugumod2.4 Beta3. But this is just an assumption...
For people who do not have this problem or have overcome this issue - could you please share the details on how you got it working ?

Check if it's not related with cpufreq driver ... Use setcpu and set to performance and check if the noise are gone.
In addition, try another player like songbird.
Give feedback
@marcellusbe: Appreciate ur effort in taking time out from ur busy schedule n replying. Anyway, back to the details -
I has used Fugumod 2.4 Beta3 Standard with SetCpu at conservative. Never changed the filesystems. Now on stock kernel. Will flash Fugumod again and try performance on SetCpu. Might take some time. Meanwhile i shall also try SetCpu on stock kernel just as an additional effort. Tried another music player but the same prob. Never tried songbird though, will do. And just as an afterthought, i have never used an OC kernel.
Will give more feedback later. Wishin ya luck for ur CM7 project !
I wonder i dont hv dis problem... music plays fine.. even iphone owners r jealous because of my phone sound quality...!!
I m on indrid 4.3 with fugmod 2.4 beta3 kernel and also have voodoooo.
Never experienced this problem though.

4.4 Electronic/buzzing noise during audio playback

Ever since updating to Kit Kat, I've been randomly getting these electronic/buzzing noises when playing audio (speaker and headphone - all audio apps e.g Poweramp, Tunein Radio)
It almost always happens if I interact with the phone while audio is playing. If I leave the phone alone during audio playback, it'll happen as well but not as frequent
I am a constant ROM flasher. This has happened on various builds of PSX, Purity, and Vanilla Rastakat. Changing kernels doesn't fix this either
Anybody else experience this?
Google only brought up this: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62715
Not sure if that is my exact problem
Maximum Volume that started to vibrate?
and did you flashed any audio tweaks?
Not sure about the maximum volume + vibrate part
But no audio tweaks. Full wipes in between flashing different ROMs.
I wish you'd never mentioned this, because now I hear it all the time. I thought it was someone else's phone doing the buzzing, bit no it's definitely mine

It's not so much buzzing but random electronic noises.
Don't think we're experiencing the same thing. This almost makes playing music impossible to listen to. You definitely would have noticed it a long time ago if you suffer from it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
It's especially noticeable while charging. I could be that the audio hardware is poorly shielded, so that charging current and even CPU activity can be heard through headphones. It's not noticeable unless things are quiet though.
Got the same issue on and off, switching from paid Poweramp to free Shuttle Music Player (hurts, cause I love Poweramp) has reduced the electronic distortion noise to stuttering and crackling here and there. Unfortunately, none of Poweramps's buffer size/thread priority/... settings did anything to lessen this problem.
Could not find anything that's a possible cause for this - regardless of the phone being used/charged/active/... these stutters keep appearing.
Any more ideas how to solve these problems other than waiting for Google to release a fix/update?
I have had this issue as well. I did some searching around and other phones had this problem as well. It turned out that they just had to disable LTE and it went away. I thought that was silly, but tried it anyway. I had been using LTE constantly so whenever I changed roms or kernels, I still enabled it and still had buzzing. After seeing the posts, I disabled LTE and the buzzing went away.
This isn't the fix I would like. I would like to still be able to use LTE, but watching videos or listening to music drives me nuts with it enabled.

Thanks for the input, albeit, the N4 wasn't shipped with LTE enable in the radio afaik.
...at least mine wasn't and I have never messed with LTE as a result.
However, I also got the feeling, that the audio stuttering has to do with the N4 radio's activity. Too bad, that switching on airplane mode while you're on the bus is not really a feasible workaround. I guess we'll have to wait either for an audiophile Dev fixing this in a custom Rom or for Google.
Confirmed, I have the same problem. Somehow I think it is linked to a custom kernel. It happens with hellscore, franco and matrix kernel for sure.
Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I have this problem too. Plus it stutters when I connect to wifi or when there is any processor intensive task going on... like doing anything while playing music (ugh). It's not the music because its the same problem whether im streaming on spotify or google play or playing local files. Any help appreciated
Yes I suffer from this issue as well. Both stock kernel, Franco kernel and matr1x kernel. Haven't tried changing ROM's yet. I thought it may have been a compatibility issue with viper4android, but after a full uninstall it still persists. I don't have anything LTE related on this device. It is random, and occurs with all audio, and videos also. I have noticed that when it happens on videos, the videos stutter a bit.

Has anyone got a clue??

Really annoying bluetooth problems on N6P

Okay so I'm gonna describe my problem as clearly as possible and will hope someone can find a fix for this.
Device: Nexus 6P
OS: Android 6.0.1 (latest vendor & security patch - June 2016)
Bluetooth devices used: Sony MDR 600BT, SOL republic tracks air, jbl synchros earphones, jbl flip 2 speaker.
1) pair earphones/speakers
2) start playing music on earphones/speakers
3) works fine on first run and when screen is off
4) when I switch on my screen to change the song the music stutters for 10 full seconds, then stuttering stops.
5) I change the song and again put screen off, works fine.
6) i put my phone in my pocket and suddenly my phone audio stops skipping??? Wtf???
7) so I change my pocket and put it in my hoodie pocket. (Nearer to earphones - maybe distance is the problem I thought)
8) audio still skips............:crying:
9) put my screen on to change song, audio starts stuttering again like crazy and then stops.
10) I request anyone here to heed this request and tell me how to workaround this problem
Currently running latest android MM 6.0.1 and no improvement .....:crying:
I don't understand one thing - top of the line flagship device and still these problems? Not getting value for my hard earned money. This is wrong.
I tried it with my iPod and it works like a charm. No stutters. No skips. Nothing.
Tried different Bluetooth headphones too in case my Sony earphones were the problem. NO IMPROVEMENT SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS.
TRIED USING IT ON ANY BLUETOOTH SPEAKER THE ABOVE THINGS KEEP HAPPENING AND I AM GETTING REALLY ANNOYED WITH THIS PHONE WHEN IT COMES TO BLUETOOTH.
I'm sorry for agonizing so much. But I hope you'll can understand my problem. And hopefully there's a fix somewhere in the world.

I can't speak for Zapjack12345, but I notice it with PowerAmp, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube, basically any app that is pushing audio through bluetooth. Audio is fine when the screen is off, but as soon as I pick up the phone, and turn it on to check notifications, things get screwy with the audio
Strange. I just checked with Pandora, YouTube, and IheartRadio and all seem fine with screen off and turning it on, using the pulldown menu, or changing songs. I'm using a cheap set of bluetooth earbuds from Amazon (no-name brand), and am stock with the phone, not rooted (yet) and on June updates. Phone was purchased in May new from Best Buy.
Same issue for me as well. I'm specifically using Amazon and Pandora most of the time. Its very annoying. On Chroma and franco kernel.
What rom are you using? This has been a well documented CM rom issue so any rom that uses CM as a base will and has had this issue since mid-January. Stock and AOSP based roms dont have this issue (from what I've seen and tried).
I'm currently using the 6/15 nightly for OMNIrom and do not have these issues.
As a sidenote, this was also an issue with Android N Dev Preview 2.

I'm currently on Pure Nexus 5/6/16. Nothing out of the ordinary installed. Tried clearing the Bluetooth cache, as the issue I am noticing was similar to issues that the Samsung S5 was having, but there was no difference.
I am going to look to go back to stock and see what happens, but looking at what OP posted, it looks like they're on stock, and having the same issue.
I am about to throw my phone in the sea. BT seems like it's getting worse and worse with each update. Cmon Google/Huawei. Don't make me lose faith.

I had a little less issues when using the Dev Preview 3 but there was another issue that arised that I hope gets fixed.
If you're using bluetooth when driving around when you lose signal or drop/gain data connection the audio skips for a quick second. Through past testing I've done working with kernel devs on 2 phones, the issue is related to how the hotplugging works for the cores. If only one core is running when the connection drops there is an issue with how the cpu ramps up and/or turns on another core to handle the workload. I thought this regression was pretty interesting seeing as one the things they were boasting about at the Google conference was how android would fix slow downs and issues when losing/gaining network connectivity with N. Hopefully it'll be fixed before final release.

You and me both. I am on my 3rd 6P and my BT problems are still the same. If the BT problems were only effecting one particular device I could understand but my Microsoft band, BT earbuds and car all seem to disconnect continuously on a bare/stock phone.
Okay guys. I changed my ROM from Resurrection Remix to Paranoid Android and this issue has been solved. Thank you so much for all your help and answers!
Does anyone else have any updates regarding this issue? Literally wanted to throw my phone out of the window during the morning commute.

Yep, this is 100% the reason. It is a CM issue. AOSP roms like Paranoid Android and Pure Nexus don't have this issue. I love Resurrection Remix, but this is starting to bug me. I may jump to PA rom soon...

Thanks. Was about to ask this question. It is a CM issue.
I have had issues with BT dropping randomly in my car on 2 different 6P's. No rhyme or reason, and it doesn't happen often, but annoying when it does. Happened on MM and DP4 currently.
On the flip side, my audio quality went down on my S7E over BT when my smartwatch was connected. Somehow, that doesn't happen with the 6P meaning I can keep my watch on in the car, so I am happy.
Hey, I just found this thread and surprised it took me this long considering I've been having this issue since I got my phone in November.
My 64gb 6P was stock until earlier this week, when I finally rooted and flashed xposed. The issue stopped the day I rooted my phone, and I was thrilled.
After reinstalling most of my apps and getting back into my routine, the problem came back. I've tried booting my phone into safe mode several times before rooting so I'm fairly confident the issue doesn't exist because of a specific app interaction, but I can't figure out what it is to save my life. I might backup again and restore to the backup I made right after rooting to see if I can narrow down the problem.
Other than that, I am very new to this stuff and honestly just thrilled to have found other people having the same issue.
I only experience the problem while connected to my car (2015 Chevy Cruze), and not any other bluetooth device.
Let me know if you guys find/have found anything I suppose?
I kinda have up on trying to narrow down the issue. I tried PureNexus, Paranoid Android, I tried different kernels, different cases. Still kept skipping and jumping, no matter how far, or close it was to my Bluetooth device (car stereo, speakers, home audio system). I went back to stock, no root, no Xposed, pure and simple Android, and I have not had a single issue, it's beautiful.

Stock lg roms sound problem

Hello. I like to use this phone for about 2.5 years. I tried all kinds of rom, kernel and mod. No latak ever made me happy up to the 4k and 120 fps modes. In recent times, however much I am hanging out in the current android versions, the camera event attracts stock-based ROMs every minute. I am using stock 30f for the last 1 month. But there is a problem with lg-based rom, I can not find any help anymore, no matter what, here in xda or elsewhere.
Simply put, the problem is lagging both the headset and the built-in loudspeaker. While the music is playing beautifully, it sounds like it is for a second. This usually sucks your music in a terrible way. I've tried a lot, but all the android 5.0-based ROMs have this problem. There are a few ways I tried:
-Install or remove the current stable version of Viper4android
-Stoke kernel xceed kernel dorimanx current kernel all the same.
- There is nothing to do with or use stereo speaker mode.
There is also no connection with this practice. My own music player, YouTube, especially Spotify ... As far as I can see, it's not a single FM on the radio.
I'm cold on the phone because of this incident. Do you have a g2 prayer between you. The solution to this problem?
