does anyone know if they are replacing warranty issues from tmobile, or warranty claims with asurion for the G2 with the myTouch4g slide?
I hope so, I would love to get a free upgrade. My screen has been slowly messing up and I have been waiting for this to be verified before I call in for warranty replacement.
If anyone knows it to be true or false it would be great to know either way.

Wow.. i don't know where u are getting your info -- hopefully your not dreaming - !!!. I wanted to ask, would u think a fair trade / upgrade / exchange if a mytouch 4g (no slide) was given for a G2 ? And if not - how much cash should be added.
Aside from the fact of the keyboard of course...
Thanks
Definitely not, at least not as of today at 5 oclock. I just talked to a tmo rep about my phone having issues and they are sending me a G2 replacement tomorrow. I asked half joke/half serious if they could send me a mytouch and the guy laughed and basically told me they aren't in the same league. An 800 single core vs a 1.2 dual, a pretty standard basic camera vs an 8mp one with HDR built in. Yeah, it'd be nice but keep on dreaming.
Exactly there is going to be no way in hell that you would get that phone as a replacement especially since has not been released yet. Maybe in another 6 months but then g2 out of warranty by then.
Any idea what the partial upgrade price would be?
I talked to the local tmo store and after giving them the "I've been a customer since 2000, blablabla" spiel they said they might be able to work out a replacement deal once the MT4GS hits stores on the 27th. I told them I loved my G2 but that I was concerned about "all of the problems" it has been having (in quotes because mine has been solid since day 1) and that I wanted a more future-proof device (does that exist in the technology industry?).
just talk to them.. they're human beings. they have policies, and policies can be bent to make the customer happy, especially if you pay your bill on time and have a good track record with them on not losing devices, not many replacements, etc.
I talked to the loyalty department. They wouldn't give me one penny off, I've been a member for 6+ years, never missed a payment, had one warranty replacement on my G2. I mentioned "all the problems" ive been having with my G2 and soforth and they told me to eat ****.
This whole myTouch 4G slide as a G2 replacement thing has been taken out of context I believe. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get upgraded to the mt4gs but I seriously doubt that is ever gonna happen. Even though our beloved G2's have been labled 'end of life' there are still hordes of refurbished ones that asurion and tmo will use for warranty replacements rather than lose money replacing it with a next generation phone.
Edit: @Kaczman: the last line of your post made me LOL hard... thanks for that

I have insurance of course
Tell them you want options? Some rep will eventually offer it to you.. i mean i use my phone for Personal, Business, and School..And dont want a ****ty G2 replacement anymore especially when they started charging 5 dollars every time you get it replaced..Might use the "I Might Go To a Different Company/Threat to Cancel"
Im so annoyed and want a Different Phone..

I would personally call that a downgrade :/ It's essentially the same hardware without a physical keyboard.... The screens could (arguably) be considered better and you have a bit more ram but tell me one time you couldn't run something on your G2 because of lack of ram because in a year with mine it has never happened.

Not Exactly..
Main Goal Is To Get the 4gSlide..(One Step Closer You can say,Since they wont be able to offer the G2 anymore since its EOL)(They Granted Me time to Play With the Phone and can change my mind)
Id Rather Get A Brand New Mytouch4g Then a Refurbished G2(Had Many issues with the 4 replacements i have received)..
I love my G2 but Time For a Change..

While I understand what you guys are doing, if you want a new phone go buy one. HTC put out a great product, don't call TMobile making up issues and making it seem like a pos just to get a free upgrade.
We all love to stick it to "the man", but grow up guys. Off contract phones are expensive, but if you are that impatient that's what they are there for.

Well it's been an adventure..... But my Nexus One finally got to the point where it's irritating me. (My Power Button stopped working.) I don't have insurance on it, anyways everything else is in perfect condition running Cyanogen Stable version. I don't know I've owned G1, Mytouch, Nexus, and I guess I just want something new for the New Year, I am trying to wait and see what new phones come out, but I preferably want something with a Front Facing camera. I was thinking of the Mytouch 4G, or the G2(but has no front camera)
What do you all think my next phone should be? I have Tmobile, I would like to sell my Nexus first before I buy my new phone (of course)
HD2 is dirt cheap
get that and NAND !!!
bam EVO what
At least contact HTC for a swap before the warranty runs out.

Oh that..eh I don't know I really want a new phone, maybe ill do this.. maybe its a easy procedure.
u bought the day of launch? thats how ur warranty is done? Also I got my wife a G2, the phone is great, i like it a lot. Just buy a Nexus S unless you want the LG Optimus 2X. I just dont see how a dual core could have a good battery.
I was thinking of the Mytouch 4G before the G2 for the front camera, when is the LG Optimus 2X suppose to launch??? Is it for Tmobile? And I bought the Nexus from a person on XDA while ago.

No your from chicago too? Eh >_< ima PM you
1. Had the same problem with my first (bootloader unlocked) Nexus One. HTC replaced it in under 2 days. I sent it to them on Monday via UPS with their prepaid shipping label, and the replacement was on my doorstep Wednesday morning.
2. The MyTouch 4G is the only one on T-Mobile I'd consider a worthy replacement. If you go with an HD2, yes you get screen real estate, but you also get ****ty battery life, no front-facing camera, no guarantee of Gingerbread, let alone Honeycomb, and most importantly, no HSPA+.
3. The G2 is pretty rad. Bought for my wife, she loves it. She's a physical keyboard type, but I dislike the added bulk and weight, though the rest of the phone is quite solid. 800mhz 2nd gen snapdragon OC's to like 1.4Ghz if you want.
All-in-all, I'd recommend you do what I'm doing, which is to return your Nexus to HTC for repairs and/or fix it yourself with the aforementioned link, and then wait for the LG Optimus 2X before you decide.
Dual-core Tegra2, HSPA+, and 1080p recording make me not give a sh*t about any other phones coming out right now, tbh.

how is that possible? Your Nexus one's got without any doubts less than 1 year...so you must have warranty. Maybe not insurance...but warranty?
my mom just got a MT4G and its a sick little phone... I am not big on Sense but overall the build quality is great and the reception is solid as well. I still like the LED screen over the TFT but w/e... cannot have everything right?
I would honestly get you N1 fixed and then wait for all the new goodies to come out here in February... CES is in 3 days so you do not even have to wait that long to see what is in store for us...
Alright well then ill keep the Nexus, how much did it cost? I see that HTC is indeed covering damages without insurance or warranty I think.
LG Optimus 2X, when is that coming out? And is it Tmob?

I spent about 5 hours at Best Buy yesterday trying out all the Android's on every carrier. IMO the best phone out there is the Nexus S. Sure it's not perfect, but what it does have it excels at. Almost everything I loved about the N1 has been improved with the S. I love the pure google experience without all the crapware that comes loaded on carrier phones. Plus, the S will always get everything first. I won't leave Nexus but I'll be happy with the S until something better comes along

Unless you bought a stolen phone, it should still be covered under warranty.
HTC covers their devices for 1 Year and considering the N1 isn't a year old yet, you should still be covered (even if you bought it used).

Came from a G1, I don't think they will send us referb G2's cause I had a Sidekick LX and they day the sidekick 2008 came out my LX broke and they sent me a brand new 2008. So if anything we may be in luck with Mytouch 4G S. But nine months is such a short time to issue EOL. Where's the update anyway?

They have to make room for the Sensation. After thats out for awhile then they will probably release the g2 replacement. Besides, they probably have enough in insurance to cover the people with a g2.
You crazy if you going to get a G2, when Sensation and Galaxy s2 are coming out. Unless you need a keyboard, I see no reason to get it over the other two. Plus you can buy a S2 or sensation when it comes out and sell it on ebay and buy 2 or 3 used g2.

Reasons are simple:
I want a full keyboard,
The price is right (48.88 on upgrade at Wal-Mart)
I don't wanna wait for the Doubleshot,
I don't like the hardware specs of the Sidekick, nor do I want samsung.
Did I mention the price at wal mart? (Cost is a huge deal when you are supporting a family and a mortgage!)
On a happy note, 4g is starting to show up on phones in SE wyoming!
I cant believe this myself but sound like the G series maybe a thing of the past with ATT in the picture. I dont understand how can you drop your best phone! lol
Well I guess this means we won't be getting gingerbread

The G2 is T-Mobiles freaking most reliable android phone weve carried since the day it came out. I work in one of the most high volume stores in the country and we get the G2 with issues atleast once per 3 weeks and we still manage to trouble shoot and fix the issue on the phone. We don't have any phone that compares to it. Its been 8 months or so since its release and it still rapes in sales . Amazing!!! All you idiots that complain about being on your 3rd or 4th phone. There's one thing we always say in store... "USER ERROR!!!!!!!".I had the phone one month before release and rocked it till about two weeks ago, I got the G2x...still rock solid. Punks!!!
hahaha he makes me feel proud about my good ol' G2
Damn, what the ****?? I don't understand why they're pulling the plug on the G2 when phones like MyTouch 3G Slide is still available.. If anything, do away with that one before you do it on the G2 which is by far a better phone in every single aspect than the MT3GS.
T-mobile needs to get their priorities in order. Mytouch 3G and 3G slide are still sold. They just put G1 on EOL last year I believe. G1 had 3 years of life. While we G2 users only get 9?

Now, tell me something. What will Gingerbread do for us? My friend is using Gingerbread and he said that there is barely a difference between 2.2 and 2.3. ,

Hmm I'm trying to trade mine now for a Nexus S and every buyer wants at least $90 on top. What you said has got me thinking about holding on to it, since mine is in pretty good condition.
But yeah its sad to see the G2 gone. I think with the end of the G2 comes the end of the G series, especially if the the Tmobile buyout goes through.
I suspect one of the major reasons is the sheer number of hardware issues the device has faced - particularly with the screen. I'm on my third g2 in only 8 months and i handle my devices with care (unless you count stock OS which I gutted for cm7 ). Honestly, when i returned my g2 for warrant repair last time I was hoping they could replace it with a different device. Guess not - still, what this will do give those needing warrant repair a way out of the g2 hardware issues and boost the price for well maintained g2s on ebay.
I'm thinking this has to do with something an earlier poster said. The G series may be going away. Despite the G1 being the genesis of Android, nobody in the "mainstream" knows that. Ask an average joe what the first Android phone was, and I'll bet money they'll respond with "the Droid". Marketing does a lot.
I just find it strange how the G2 has been killed off prematurely and how the G2X is "temporarily out of stock". Throw in all of LG's manufacturing woes and the impending release of the MyTouch 4G slide, and the G series looks to be in trouble. Knowing T-Mobile, they'll want to highlight the "consumer-friendly" (and really cheesy, IMO) MyTouch line of phones. Just a theory... I actually hope I'm wrong.

I don't see any particular reason for them to continue with the HTC VISION. The HTC DOUBLESHOT (very soon) is basically the same exact phone with a CPU upgrade and a front facing camera... possibly more RAM and internal storage as well. The screen is identical, probably the exact same part, the keyboard is very very similar, etc. Probably the same mainboard with a few different parts soldered onto it, and a different casing.
Also I wonder how much of this has to do with a push to retire phones lacking FFC and NFC - increasingly becoming standard components for android devices.
The Evo... I remember when I got it.. the world felt new.. the amazing camera, the blazing fast 4G, the endless apps.
Yeah, the honeymoon is over. Problems with this phone seem to be as never ending as its features. Sprint must hate this phone because of all the problems people have with it. Don't get me wrong, it's Sprint's best phone by a long-shot and was the best phone out for a while, but damn, I'm holding my second replacement Evo and I've discovered just two days after I got it that the camera app causes the phone to crash (tried searching for a solution but to no avail, maybe someone here will know how to fix it)
I'm thinking about hassling Sprint to just send me a Nexus S for my next replacement (they're total pushovers, tell them you've been with them for a decade and they'll treat you like the sage on the hill).
Would it be worth it? Anyone here had experience with both devices?
The camera is a big deal to me, so comparisons would be awesome.
tl;dr I'm pissed at my evo do I keep it or switch it for something else? Sprint phones only.
The galaxy s 2 is right around the corner...I expect it to be released within August. It already went through the FCC with a wimax chip so that means it's going to sprint. It would be stupid to get anything else right now unless you really love the Evo 3D or Motorola Photon
My wife has a nexus s and its real nice. Camera is comprobale to ours as long as your not blowing the pics way up from original size. The phone is supper fast and slim. I've been thinking about hailing sprint for one to but I'm trying to wait and see if the nexus 3 comes to sprint.
The Nexus S might be a solid choice, but as stated the GS2 is right around the corner. And further out is the new Nexus. Tempting, the SGS2 is, but many complain about Sammy and their updates. So long as CM7, and beyond, is supported I couldn't care less. But if you think you could deal with the Nexus S then why not? Especially if you'd be willing to shell out for a device when you're not due for an upgrade.

Of you're having problems with the evo, try to swap it for a nexus, its a great device. That way you don't have to use your upgrade and you can wait for the prime or sgs2. Personally after using the nexus s I will likely only buy nexus devices in the future.

Meh, I'm keeping my evo for a while.
Right now the SGS II is almost out but then what? the galaxy and the evo can both
Send texts
make calls
get emails
use flash player
both run 2.3
both have great cameras
I'm not saying the sgs II is bad, just think the evo can live a bit more, most apps out there aren't even optimized for the dual core chips.
But I will admit there are advantages such as formfactor/screen/ SPEED! and a few other things
its like upgrading from the iphone 3g to the 3gs at this point. (I'm not ranting or being a fanboy of the evo, just stating an honest opinion)

Wondering if anyone has managed to get a different warranty replacement for their G2 that wasn't a G2 (mytouch 4g, mytouch 4G slide, Sensation etc.).... (btw to the haters this is a simple discussion, im not trying to rip off Tmobile or anything just wondering....)
afaik you'll be hard pressed to be able to get an "upgrade" warranty replacement. The G2 is not very old (only recently hitting EOL w/ T-mobile), and there are more than enough refurbs sitting around waiting to be sent out as warranty repairs or replacements.
The only way you could potentially get an "upgrade" is if you've been a very long-time customer, and been through several G2's with different problems, and as an offer to appease you and get you off their backs on replacements they'll offer a different model. I'd be quite surprised if they offered as big of an upgrade as a MT4G slide.
fwiw I went through 4 replacement phones on Sprint (evo 4G) in under 6 months and they wouldn't even entertain the idea of offering me another phone of even equal value (such as Samsung Epic, etc.) so I highly doubt you'll be seeing any upgrades any time soon.

That is sprint and this is tmobile....apples to oranges comparison.
And yes, T-mobile has been known to offer you a handset of greater worth than your currently one if you are on your 3rd problem phone (Trying to get a 4th). Not always, but many many people have had success.

Yes I know Sprint and T-mobile are different carriers that don't necessarily have the same customer service setup, but its just an example of what you can go through and still not get an upgrade. The thing is, its not like T-mobile is known for giving out upgrades for no reason.

I had a g2 since jan, started having problems and returned it and my 2nd g2 only lasted a day before it started having issues. When I called and spoke to cs they offered me a mt4g (not the slide) but thats not exactly an upgrade, more like a lateral trade.
They would be stupid to upgrade you from Vision to Doubleshot.
YOU would be stupid to downgrade from Vision to Glacier.

Not really, considering the MT4G has a faster processor and more RAM, and if you're just going to root and run a custom ROM the stock software isn't a big deal. I could see if you don't like the aesthetics (I don't either), but I'd say they're pretty comparable phones.
That was my thought exactly, it's nearly the same minus the keyboard. I personally didn't choose that route because I think the MT line of phones are just plain ugly.
MT4Gs as a replacement for a G2
After 3 replacement G2s they offered me a MyTouch 4G Slide in Khaki
The replacements they kept sending were refurbished, cheap-looking, and more faulty than my original G2 (which I pre-ordered when it first came out). I kept calling and complaining until they started offering different models.
First they offered a G2x which I refused because it didn't have a physical keyboard (I can't deal with virtual keyboards I really can't). Then instead of that they sent me my 3rd G2, and after I called in for that one having issues, they coughed up an offer for a MyTouch 4G Slide.
Don't get me wrong I loved my G2, I just wish they would have worked on fixing all of it's issues .
And more importantly, how did you get them to switch you without using an upgrade? I'm not trying to con a phone out of Sprint or anything, I just don't feel I'm getting what I paid for with my Shift, the flex cable keeps breaking and then I'm stuck with a non-working phone for a week while they order a refurb which I still have to drive to the store and pick up. The manager of my local store told me today that there was absolutely no way for him or any other store to switch me to another device. I called sprint and talked to everyone and there was no way for me to get into another device without making an insurance claim and paying 100 dollar deductible or moving my upgrade up for 105 dollars which would mean another long 2 year wait not to mention still having to purchase a new phone. Asurion offered me an LG Optimus (for 100 dollars?!) and I about lost my temper but kept my cool. So would I would like to know is how did you get Sprint to switch you out for a NS4G. (Retentions?)
TL;DR:
Frustrating process with Sprint ended in them telling me there is no way for me to switch to another phone without paying money, losing my upgrade, or both. Want to know how some people have switched to the NS4G.
5 minutes and I switched back to shift.
I was told the only way a customer gets a different phone, is when they have had their original model replaced a minimum of 4 times... That's what the Sprint store in Fond du Lac, WI and Sheboygan, WI told me...

Seems like I hear a different thing every sprint employee I talk to. The manager at my local store claimed that 4 days ago an internal memo forbid all store employees from switching customers into any other devices no matter what. When i called in they at least tried (claimed she couldn't get approval to switch me) but ended up offering me a bunch of BS all which involved me spending money and losing my upgrade in November. I guess I'll go get another shift and wait for the flex cable to fail again. *sigh*
Does depend on which Store you go to, and who you speak to. I have great luck with the corporate stores. They always take care of my issue, no mater what it is. But I've gone to regular Sprint dealers, and they just try and run me in circles. I was told by a corporate store that after 3x's they would exchange "most" devices. If the issue, or issues were not customer related.

Had the Nexus S for a full two days. No way I would trade my Shift for one. Also had the EVO3D almost two days. Same story, the Shift flat out smokes them both IMO .

Well, I think the only reason to want a nexus s would be for those people that are so adjusted to amoled screens, that anything else actually hurts their eyes. I personally love the shift's Super-LCD display, and am fine with the brightness/battery life ratio. In my opinion, its why I won't get a OG Evo of the 3D, cause pentile is bad (3d) and regular LCD doesn't have as bright of colors (OG Evo)
I am in the same boat. My second shift in a month is on backorder again and they told me they couldn't switch. The first lady i talked to tryed to switch me to the nexus, but wasn't approved. I finally talked to guy that seemed in the know and what pretty nice. he told me they won't switch out phones anymore because too many people were abusing the system and getting different phones all the time. Also, he said the rule about getting a different phone after four has changed since sprint carries the iphone. he said there is too much money wrapped up in the iphones to allow that rule anymore, and they have been told they can't do it. So, you are just stuck with what you have. They ordered my replacement monday and it is still on backorder.
Yep I now have a shift on back order as well, just dandy!
I must of gotten lucky with my shift because I've never once had any of these issues most people talk about on these forums...like many others have said, there is not too many phones that are like or just as good as the shift. When it comes time for me to upgrade I might just tell sprint there is no phones I want to upgrade to until they make another htc slider phone.

100% with you on that. Never have any of my phones have given me any problems although i am on my second shift but thats cause my first one decided to go swimming in a lake after i did my very first flash to CM7 lol
The most common problem with the shift is the flex cable... If you think about it, it should be expected, with users constantly opening and closing the keyboard... I love my shift... I wont be upgrading soon because sprint doesnt have any phones I'm interested in... I just wish they had a better design for the flex cable, at least so it lasts 2 years...

I love the shift too. my flex cable has broken twice in two months. my problem is i just don't like going this long without a phone.

Most definately agree with that . But I think they do it for planned obsolescence. Otherwise most people would just keep the phone for a longer time. Which is definately not what they want. But the cable is easy enough to fix.

Oh believe me I plan on keeping this bad boy as long as possible! There's a flaw to your planned obsolescence theory, the stuff breaks way before they plan and ends up costing them way too much money in the end. I think it's more of a engineering design fail if anything, but so far so good here, no hardware failures...
Same here no issues, knock on wood. But a lot of times when you go in the "Tech" ( who knows less about the phone than we do ) tries to tell you that it's something you did wrong. Had a Tech try to tell a friend of mine with a Virgin, untouched, unrooted, two month old Shift. That the reason his screen went out was because he was trying to root the phone. I looked him dead in the Eyes, and said your full of it. Then handed him my phone running SS v9, and asked him if it was rooted. He looks at it for a second then says I'd have to test it first . But yes your correct, an engineering glitch can cost them money in the long run.
the only issue i have with my shift is that the hinges are a little bit lose, but i guess that comes from usage

Agreed 10000%. But the repair guy I was talking to also said the quality of the Shift and HTC as a company has gone down. He has been repairing way more HTC than Samsung devices as of late. If Samsung makes a new slider, I'm on it.
