See Post #3 for the fix.
Every build of CM7 I try (BoyPPC and Typhoon) does not manually scan for networks. It chooses the network automatically alright. But if I want to manually scan (Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Network Operators) to see what GSM networks are available, all I get is "Error while searching networks."
Builds up to Base 109 did not have this problem, if I fall back to one of the ROMs with this build I am still having no problems.
I have cLK, but apparently even some Mag users posted this problem. I have also tried different Radios - which I don't think is a problem. It locks on to Networks relaibly. Just that it is erroring out when displaying available networks after a few seconds of scanning.
The problem with this is that I wont be able to choose the best network manually when I am roaming, and have to make do with what the phone thinks is the best...
I had posted this in the CM nightly thread, Typhoon thread and BoyPPC's thread, but hoping this will thread get better attention.
Any thoughts?
Don't any one else with CM7 builds have this problem???

I have same problem, too. At first my postpaid sim is working for few weeks and sometime last week, I tried to remove it then place it into other phone. Once I place back the SIM into my HTC Wildfire CM7, I got no signal. It says "error searching network". Since its a postpaid SIM, I went to the network customer care and ask for a replacement. The problem still the same. I reset my phone to a factory CM7 default but to no avail. If prepaid sim is inserted, it all works fine. Any solution for this, guys? Thanks. I've been searching this problem and I am not alone on this kind.

I have used my x1 for four months in America with T-mobile. The phone had no problem until yesterday. However, yesterday, the phone began to lose signal and automatically rebooted several times. Then, finally, from the afternoon, the phone totally lost the signal, and kept looking the signal.
I took out my sim card and plugged into another cell phone and it worked. So, I thought it was the problem of the rom. (I was using Touch-IT 4.5) I downloaded the new version of the rom, Touch-IT 5.6, then flashed it. However, it did not solve the problem. So, I flashed with the original SE rom. However, the phone didn't work either.
I contacted T-mobile, and there was not problem on the signal on my region. I thought it might the problem of data plan since I do not use data plan. So I used Advanced config and killed every option for data plan. However, it still does not work. I tried to do settings manually. changing band, carrier, and every possible options, but it does not work.
Interestingly, the phone worked two times today for a short amount of the time. However, after the reset, it is gone. Other than phone function, I do not see any problem.
Even now the phone keeps searching the signal. What can I do? I read another article that is similar to my case, and they say even after changing the sim card, it does not work.
Anyone has the same issue? What can I do? My phone is dead for two days, and it messes up so many things. Please somebody help me.
Have you tried redoing the connection setup?
try clicking on signal antenna then enter settings click on network and manual select your network, will take a few mins to find networks if it connects manualy just select auto again and hopefully it will fix it., worked with mine.
Thank you guys
Thank you guys. Yes, I have tried both of them, but it still does not work.
In Connection setup, I chose United States and T-mobile, and the screen to choose between T-mobile and At&t. I select T-mobile, and click Register. Then, it goes to the searching mode again, and nothing happens.
I assume that somehow, the phone finds networks, since it does show the options to choose (T-mobile, At&t). But something is not right, and it messes the set up. I do not know why.
searched the forums with little info about my situation, other than that it seems to be happening to a handful of others.
havnt changed any settings or added apps or anything to my phone for several weeks if not months. i am using the cell evo v1 rom. 2.11.50.20 radio. i dont have a proxy server running.
for the last 2-3 days my location has only updated itself once. google maps cant find me, as well as bing. manual update does nothing. soft reset does nothing. wifi connect does nothing. i can get on the internet, sms, mms, etc etc.
i read on tmonews.com that tmobile was turning on HSPA+ in my region in the last couple days, along with 18 or so cities around the US, can this have something to do with my problem?
not sure what else to do...cant find any info.
thanks
I'm having this problem now as well. Been working on it for a couple days. T-Mo has had HSPDA+ here in St. Louis since before I got my HD2, so I don't think it's due to them adding it to your region.
Strange things I've noticed so far:
It works if Wifi is on, but not connected to a network.
It works if you are connected through EDGE, but not 3G or H.
The AGPS server IP address in the registry is a private network address: 10.something. If someone with a stock TMOUS rom can look in /HKLM/HTC/SUPD AGPS/ for the Server IP key and post the contents, I'd like to know if it's the same.
These issues are the same as everyone with different devices has been having for a while now, but the older phones with the issue seem to work in some areas without the wifi and edge workarounds, and not others. Mine so far works nowhere without the workarounds.
Try going into the manila slider and on the weather tab press menu > Enable my location
^ that isn't even an option for me on the manila slider anymore for some reason. I disabled the gsm and ran on edge and it was able to locate. as soon as turned gsm back on it wouldn't do it again.
bump, anyone?

Maybe you should move to Denver. Colorado is beautiful this time of year.
Kidding aside, how about trying a hard reset?
from what i've seen on threads somewhat related to this, hard reset is a 50/50 shot. if i'm going do a hard reset where i would have to redo all of my settings and such, i'm just going to wait until the new version of the cell evo rom comes out. which is supposed to be soon.
i really dont understand what would cause this to suddenly happen. especially since it still works on edge. i tried wifi once and it didnt work, but i think i had my network connection still on. but regardless, this is pretty rediculous.
If you've traveled anywhere, your radio may be 'stuck' on a distant tower. This has happened on a couple of our phones and the tmo folks had to do a push/release/unstick type of signal to the phone. May be worth a try.
^ok, i called tmo tech support. mentioned about the possibility of sending me a reset signal, she said that was a possible scenario, but she was pretty confident that it was because my sim card is an older model sim card. claims that the sim card in my phone wasnt designed for 3g services, and any sort of change in the network (like them adding HSPA+ like i mentioned above) could interfere with the connections. she said the fact that i could do this on edge and not 3g is a dead giveaway that the sim card is the problem.
she said they are in the process of trying to get people to go to the corporate stores and switch to the latest sims. apparently this is happening to a lot of people, but the sim should be the fix.
i guess i'll shoot up there later on after work, or tomorrow, and i will give you guys a follow up on this.

Actually that does make perfect sense, and I suspect you'll find it clears up your problem. In fact, for anybody else that finds this thread, I suggest you try that step before other alternatives like hard-reset or ROM flashing.
yep, new sim card did it guys. i would recommend anybody having any connection issues to see if your sim cards are up to date.
edit: it was working before. now its only updating on edge again. not sure what to think or do. going to wait and see what happens when the new rom I use comes out.
any other ideas on this guys? new sim card only worked for a few hours. back to only updating 'my location' on EDGE and WIFI. pretty damn annoying. thinking about calling tmo support again to see if they'd send me a 'reset signal', but with having the new sim card you'd think that it wouldnt be a factor anymore, because i'd imagine it's already been reset.
the only other thing i could think of, and thats what tmo would probably tell me to do, is a hard reset. i'm sure they wouldnt be too happy with having a flashed rom on there either (not that i would tell them anyways).
if nobody has any other ideas but a hard reset, i'm going to wait for a couple days until the new release of the cell evo rom.
thanks
Yea. That weird problem hit my second HD2. I bought one 2 weeks ago and after your post paid more attention and of course noticed my location being Denver....
I deleted all preset locations and added custom one. It updated only once, right after location was activated....
However, wife's phone HD2 which was purchased on 3-24-2010 or original release date does not have that issue, ROM was updated to 2.13 a month ago or so...
Here you go...
Two of the same phones (supposedly), with the same stock ROM, with the SIM cards acquired about 5 years ago. One shows weather update without problem, second (newer one) has that dreaded nag....
I had a similar issue where the weather would only update once then freeze and never update again. All other 15 location updated but not my location. This was normal for stock and 2 roms, then I used energy rom and it now works. huh? Go figure.
Strange...I'm in St. Louis, as well...MO, that is...and it is working fine for me.
Try downloading the HTC connection wizard. This has fixed connection issues I've had before. I know Tmo has 3 networks to choose from MMS, Data, and Internet. I beleive you want data and may be your phone is selecting Internet.

ya that didnt work. either. still does it on edge though. the cell evo rom update will hopefully be here soon, if that doesnt fix it, the i'm not sure what to do.
I also have the problem of weather for my current location not updating (and the location not updating either). I have had the phone for almost a month and it updated regularly, although I noticed an occasional lapse for an hour or two. Following the suggestion by misticninja, I switched the band to Edge and I was able to update the location and weather. When I switched back to auto (3G), the update failed. It occurred to me that when I am in my basement office at home, I get Edge, not 3G. That may be why I got updates there. But I am sure it has updated in the past at my work location where I have very good 3G. Is this an HTC problem or a T-Mobile problem?

I'm having this problem ever since Tmo announced HSPA+ (4G speeds), but my sim is only 2mo. old! Is that an old sim?
You need to have your location enabled. Go to settings tab the location and then click on enable my location.
Ever since the Gingerbread update (I've manually updated to 2.3.3 stock by using the full image, wiped everything before), I occasionally lose network access completely. Not just data, but also calls.
My Wifi is enabled and that seems to remain connected, but my mobile network seems to just die.
I'm on Vodafone UK, London Area.
Interestingly, sometimes the bar lights are still showing as good reception, but i can't make calls and people can't call me.
Furthermore, when i search for networks it normally returns an Error. giving little information (something along the lines of: error while searching for networks)
Cycling airplane mode does not help. Sometimes power-cycling the phone doesn't help.
What does help, is when i click on "Use only 2G networks" - that seems to connect fine and i can make calls again. then, i can *sometimes* successfully go back to 3g but un-ticking the use only 2g networks.
I'm using stock 2.3.3
Baseband version:
32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
I tired updating the radio at one point to 5.12 but that seemed to have been so bad that i couldn't connect at all.
I think, that if my Wifi was turned off and I would use the network data connection, my "voice connection" (i.e. calls) would work fine - that is because i never see this problem when i'm outside using network data.
Is someone else seeing this?
Yeah, me too. I'm on T-Mobile in the US. It happens about once a week.

I use this workaround after many hours of investigation into the problem on various forums and with Vodafone...
1. O the keypad, type *#*#4636#*#*
2. From the menu select "Phone information"
3. Go down the list to "Select preferred network type" which, by default on Vodafone, is set to "WCDMA preferred".
4. Click on the drop down menu and select "GSM auto (PRL).
5. Exit all and reboot.
This not only improved my signal but also my battery life as well as I was not constantly seeking WCDMA. Don't worry, if you need data and are within a 3.5G area, it will use WCDMA.
Give it a try, you have nothing to lose and can always switch back.
Hope this helps.
Will give that a try.
I think at one point i had it set to that...
Will update if it solved my problem.

To be honest with you itay1, I had a few problems last year with the Vodafone firmware.
Not the least of which was the inability to send MMS's when connected to WiFi. and being given the run-around by Vodafone, who at one stage or another, blamed everything and everybody.
In the end I rooted my phone and switched to Cyangen Mod's and since then have had no problems. Besides which, IMHO, the CM7 stable version, released today, is far superior to the stock Gingerbread I tried from Google.
Thanks for the tips.
So i gave 5.12 Radio another try + your change for GSM auto (PRL) and so far it seems better.
I haven't lost network connectivity yet - however.. i'm starting to think it really might be up to Vodafone. Maybe they have network failures that they are not reporting.
Definitely going to switch at the end of contract. I hear GiffGaff have pretty awesome deals!

I did search for a solution but none of the issues are quite the same and there were no real solutions.
I am running the latest stable PA build on Google Play N4 running on T-Mobile monthly 4G. For the most part the service is fine but it seems that every morning when I wake my service is gone. Going in and out of airplane mode and turning on and off data do not bring back the service but a reboot does. When I look at the status I do have a IMEI number so that is not the problem. Additionally, If I go to Mobile Networks and choose network operators it gives an error saying "error while searching for networks" and terminates the search.
Since a reboot fixes the problem I assume it is not a hardware or SIM problem.

I have the exact same issue, presumably since updating to 4.3 Jelly Bean. I am running stock. After my phone has done nothing for a while, it loses its mobile signal which can only be recovered through a reboot, only to lose it again after some time in standby. Wifi works normally. I run on a T-mobile network through another carrier in The Netherlands. Anyone know where the problem might be coming from?
Same problem with Mobilicity in Canada on 4.2.2. It seems to be an issue with the 1700 aws band.
I haven't had the phone for too long but I was on slimbean 4.2.2 build 7 with a Franco based kernel and used it for about 4 days without any issues or need to reboot. I will try this combo again.
I have also tried radios .27 .33 and .84
Update:
Still had issues using 4.3 jss ROMs. I recently did 2 things and have not had any issues or reboots @ 114 hours up time without using any wifi.
When I removed the sim card I noticed that the sim card's contacts could be touching the metal sim card tray when inserted. I placed a tiny strip of scotch tape on the edge/contacts of the sim card to ensure it could not be shorting out. When I booted up I also went into the phone settings and changed it to "wcdma only" as Mobilicity is 1700 only.

If you guys are on the latest baseband and the latest radio(i.e. .84) and still you are having this problem why dont you guys try the hybrid radio(combination of .33 and .84). I had read in some thread, people solved this problem using the HYBRID RADIO, .
I think you can get he hybrid radio in RADIO COLLECTION thread,.
Hello, first to say, im not a newb, noob, newly registered, or a guy who dont understand anything from android.
Im not posting stupid topics, or topics which answers can be found easily on internet/google/xda/forums and such.
I am running stock rom, only rooted (i used to root it only to apply some xposed settings and clear some unnessesary apps, nothing more, nothing less).
Here is the description:
My phone has no warranty, i bought it online, brand new from UK, simfree. At that point, i had no problems with the connection. i received OTA Update - about 50-60 mb, but the phone remain 4.2.2 as it was. I still had no problems with the connection. After some time, the phone was left alone inhome for a few days, may be a week, it was turned off and it was not used at all. When i got back, i inserted my sim card, and i saw it is showing only G icon, and no 3g/h/h+, nor even 2g. I live in big city with very good network coverage, so its not network problem. I dialed up the customer service (Globul Telenor Bulgaria) , explained them my problem and asked them to check if its operator's problem or sim card problem, but it is not. The sim is fine, so is the network coverage. I dont have other operator's sim card to check the phone. I tryed several possible solutions found in google/xda - turned off the phone, removed sim and battery and left that way for few hours, still have the problem, tryed to switch operators manually and register sim card to other operator then back to mine, not working. Several times reseting/ deleting APNs, switching airplane mode, data off/on, adding apns/searching for networks and all available combos, not working asked Globul Customer support to send me new settings- not working. The only obvious thing i havent tryed is the factory reset (I still need to do a backup first and dont have time to do it right now.)
In Settings- More networks - Mobile networks- Network mode i have 2 options - 2g/3g auto connect and 3g Only. When I choose only 3g - i lose any signal, like there is no sim card. Reverting back to auto 2g/3g is registering my sim back to Globul network.
Then i decided to root my phone if i can find a fix for the connection. Rooted with CF-Auto-Root thru Odin. (The 30sec Root)
Looked for some tweaks in xposed modules and settings, i couldnt find anything related to 3g. Still looking for a solution...
I repeat - my phone was completely stock and non-rooted when the problem occurs! Now is rooted with stock rom. (this is the diffirent from every topic i searched.)
Im attaching some screenshots, if someone can help me. 2g is really annoying and slow as hell.
Well the first thing I would do is update your phone. You are running 4.2.2 which is old. Update to the latest version, that could either be a stock rom or a custom rom.
After that do a factory reset. Make sure you backup your internal storage etc, because it will wipe it clean.
Factory reset, updated to 4,3, after that 4.4.2 problem still persists.
No 3g at all. Its not the sim. Any way to fix it ?
Soo no way to fix it? Should i give it for repair?
