Controllers for tablets - Android Software Development

Hi there,
Is it possible to make a phone a controller for your tablet? I have a galaxy s2 and galaxy tab 10.1 - it would be great to be able to use my phone as the wireless controller...
Has this already been achieved? If so, please point me in the right direction...!

You'll have to provide more more information than that. What do you want to control?
Otherwise it's just like saying "I want a transport vehicle" and it could be anything, car, bike etc. You get my point

What I figure Freddie means is what I've been looking for as well - to use your Android phone as a gamepad or otherwise for your Android tablet, similar to the SNES HD app for the iPad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlcigMvkkoU
There is great support for exterior controllers like the Wiimote being used for emulators and games on phones and tablets, but porting this method of using your phone as the controller itself is a great way for people who don't already own/don't want to buy another accessory.
I would assume it'd be similar to broadcasting your phone as a BT keyboard, and then using various button mappings fullscreened to create the gamepad. If an Android phone can receive input from a device, why couldn't it broadcast it?

Indeed!
Why use a gamepad when i could use my phone!

Dlna what types of devices and what apps?

As above says, I have an Xbox 360 and my trusty xoom. Can I figure a way for xoom to function with skifta or something of the sort of app to allow me to do this? All answers are appreciated!

I'm sure that if you Google a term like "Xbox 360 Xoom streamer" something will pop up. I know its pretty easy to use a xoom and a PC, so I'm sure its not much harder on a 360.

I've had mixed success with Skifta, 2player, and twonky. Generally, if I want to display my entire music library, I run into trouble.
I would recommend BubbleUPnP. I've had a lot of success with it.
Not my area of expertise but just to throw an idea out there, would the DLNA app that shipped on the Bionic work on the Xoom also?
I use PlugPlayer here. Ain't perfect (my personal experience with DLNA clients under both iOS and Android is that they all have different issues), but worked well enough for me.
Was tested with Mezzmo (Windows) and MiniDLNA (which I ported to the WDTV Live).

Replacement for Xperia Play: Moga Controllers

Hi guys,
I recently noticed many people saying goodbye to Xperia Play n going to S3 or other devices..
Ques: I want to know if its good option to replace Xperia Play with ARCHOS GAMING TABLET?
Ans: I have tried Archos Gamepad and trust me its pathetic !! Better avoid, its waste of money.
Finally m using MOGA CONTROLLERS with my Galaxy Note 2 and its pretty cool.
Waiting for Moga Controller Pro version now.
I don't think that's a phone

Nope, check the YouTube videos, its got severe button issues that kill it's ability to be a competent gaming device. The "Much 3G" looks to be much better.

And 666 hours on stanby... beast's toy :cyclops:
But seriously I think there will be Xperia Play 2. Start next year as lots of contracts going to finish (like my) and big hole in market will appear. To big to miss tat opportunity, specially Sony said that selling of XP was bigger as predicted so I have hope
I'd Rather buy a real ps vita and put a cfw on it then buying this cheap thing looks like the build quality is really cheap

Guys, what u say about this: ARCHOS GAMING TABLET
http://www.techdigest.tv/2012/08/ifa_2012_archos.html
I haven't been using my Xperia Play for gaming much lately but I have to say it is nice to take it out of my pocket and slide the screen up and game while waiting at the Dr's office or other excruciatingly boring event...

Equally, how the hell do you use a 7 inch gamepad as a phone?

The Archos gaming tablet is just that, a Tablet not a phone.
I have enough phones, I`m more interested in the gaming part of it with physical controls.
I know you can pair up controllers to some other devices, but that means using bluetooth which is bound to be a drain on battery, and also while I feel comfortable using my PS3 pad on my PS3, I don`t think it`s so cool on a mobile phone.

Fair comment, however I still prefer the idea of an all in one unit as opposed to carrying a controller and a device.
Also to be fair this archos tablet gamepad actually looks good to me, and it`s price seems very fair to.

The best part? Archos claims to have developed a “mapping and game recognition” software that will allow virtual controls to be mapped to its buttons, even for games that don’t actually support physical controllers

Zombie Driver and PS3 controller.

Purchased Zombie Driver yesterday and noticed a gamepad can be used with it. What do I need to do to get a PS3 controller to work with the game?

Download the SixAxis app from the Play Store and link them, pretty much it to be honest mate.
Also is the game any good mate?
Its not bad actually. Haven't spent a massive amount of time on it due to trying to get a PS3 controller configured lol.

Did you manage to find the SixAxis?
If not:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en
It is a paid app but buy it, give it a quick go and if it doesnt work/you dont like it get it refunded, if not keep it and enjoy your PS3 controller

I bought it, sync'd, and can't figure out how to get the controller to control the screen. It definitely pairs, and I've enabled it under input methods.. game just doesn't react to it. Color me confused.
There's an option in SixAxis to change how the controller interacts with the device. You can have the controller map to "touch areas" on your screen. So pressing a button will touch a particular area on the screen.
You should also have an option to have the controller be a gamepad, so games should see you have a "gamepad" connected. I do this when playing Modern Combat 3. I set it to a gamepad, and when I play the game, I just map the buttons normally. The R3/L3 sticks also should move as analog.

Help finding a good Bluetooth remote/trackpad

I recently found my old Motorola rz100 remote that I used to use with my Xoom. It had a track pad and buttons so I could control my Xoom and see a mouse pointer. I recently tried to pair it to my nexus 10 with no avail. I tried hooking it to my DNA and note 2 and it also wouldn't work. It does hook to my RAZR HD and has full mouse capability and works 100 percent so it must have something to do with moto software. My question is, I'd like to do presentations on my nexus hooked to a TV, and I'd like to be able to use a track pad remote. I wanted to use my phone but so far only tablet remote in the app store works to get it connected, but with no mouse like capability. Since I'd like to have mouse like control, can anyone suggest either an app or hardware that they have used to help me? Thanks!

I don't know about software for your tablet, but if you say you wanna make a presentation on your nexus hooked to a tv, if your tv has smart tv, then it probably (mine does) recognize your mobile and it can act like a mouse cursor (lg for example has lg remote control in the market, samsung also i think).
I'm using different tvs all the time. So I'll need something to work in a variety of situations. Thanks for the reply though.

IR Blaster + Xbox 360!

Hey there guys,
Just a quick one in case anyone doesn't know, but when setting up a remote on the TV app, on cable box, if you scroll down to Microsoft and use that option, it allows you to use your TV remote to control your Xbox!

Nice one, very good info. . . .
That's cool. Is it better than Smartglass?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Smart glass connects through WiFi and has deep integration in the Xbox. This simply allows you to power on/off your Xbox, navigate around and select stuff in Netflix etc. Perfect for me as I have an Xbox and tv in the bedroom which is mainly used for dvds and Netflix.
smartglass is different and has many more features, but having one remote to turn your tv and Xbox on is amazing.
Works a treat thanks don't even need to leave the šofa to turn on the Xbox now lolz

HTC must publish a website for IR so we can find updates and contributions for many devices like xbox360,DSLR,TVs...
I guess it works for Media Center receiver too?

I'll make a quick video showing you what I did if you like? Might just be in the wrong place?
For me its really useful because my xbox in the bedroom doesn't have a wireless controller and the tv remote is a bit knackered.
EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pJcYKzO0Pk
Thanks dude. Was wondering if this was possible. Sadly I did buy a remote for my xbox last month! But now I've got my HTC One, don't need to leave the sofa now! (if the remote is out of reach!)

Fantastic, great tip! Hate wasting my controller's battery just for watching TV, and after a long programme having to connect the controller again before I can do anything. Thanks!
