Has anyone seen this and would we be able to use it on our plays?
Would it improve anything?

Im too chicken plus im guessing it requires a custom kernel. I havent been brave enough to unlock my boot loader yet.

You need root, not unlocked bootloaders. It's just an auto task-killer, folks. It doesn't bite. However, I'm not sure it will work in the Xperia Play, as there seems to be a need to make a kernel which specifically supports init.d scripts. I don't think ours supports it. At least I can't find the /system/etc/init.d folder Juwe asks for.

I dont think that neccaserily means it doesnt support it. It might still do and you just make the folder.
Thats what I read anyway
But thats why I figured I would need a custom kernel

there must be init.d support or the dc2cache script would run at boot, afaik

Another Q
does it work with GingerDX or any other custom rom or just stock Eclair?
It's working good only on GingerDX..on other roms it will have problems like bootloops...
I am an idiot
Just checked the original post and saw that doixanh said that he uses it with his GingerDX..so sorry for the spam but another question...do I have to unlock the bootloader or it will work only with the instructions from his post...thanks for the patience everybody and for the good work...once you go DX you never go back keep it up!

Everything is clear about the famous "swap". so in other words to use the swap feature of DX's kernel we need to install apps from market to activate
thank you for the clarification
doixanh said:
Did you try this simple thing? My search showed this as the first result.
Everything is clearly explained: what swap is, should we use it, apps to enable swap, even how to know swap is enabled or not.
Isn't that simple for newcomers?

Don't forget that u have to create ext.3 / 4 partition to make it work as well..but it may as well reduce the life of your sdcard

No need.
You can use a swap file too.
Besides, it's not really measurable if it's going to reduce your sdcard lifetime, and even if it does, who would want to have an sdcard for more than two years.
Huawei decided to put a FPS limit on its stock-ROMs, and this limit makes a stock-rom jerky and unsuitable for gaming.
I have looked for a script that was able to remove this FPS limit but the only one i found was not working correctly.
Then i found a really useful script that disables the VSYNC (enabled by default in the kernel).
I have tested this script on my u8800pro (stock 2.3.5 + root + CWM recovery + kernel .35 by genokolar) and it works really well. The rom now is really smoot, like CM7, and fast.
I haven't noticed any lag.
This is how to remove the FPS limit:
download this file http://sourceforge.net/projects/matteof93.u/files/69uncapfps/download
put it in your sdcard
download the app "script manager" from the market
open the script with script manager (remember to select run as root and run at boot)
after running the script for the 1st time, reboot the phone
To check if the script works, use an app like Neocore (i get 55FPS).
This script should work with both u8800 and u8800pro. I don't know if it works with the stock kernel.
First you say it doesn't remove the limit but disables the vsync, then later you say how to remove the FPS limit and the topic also states that.
What's it gonna be?
Ok, the script simply edits a system file to disable the vsync...
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
#zdzihu: uncap fps
mount -t debugfs debugfs /sys/kernel/debug
echo '0' > /sys/kernel/debug/msm_fb/0/vsync_enable
umount /sys/kernel/debug
Nice move, but it's not cool to just tell people to run some script from "megaupload" or whatever...

As some of you know, stockwell has a miui porting script. I just began to wonder, can it be modified to port other roms from desire z? If someone could alter it a bit try to port one of desire z roms. I have very little knowledge on linux, but someone with more could do it.
Ret4rt and darksage have this script. They can answer to this question.

U could try and just read the script from the github.. U could see the script will automatically add and replace some files and delete unnecessary file from Desire-Z ROM.. U can do it using windows AFAIK... Try using this tutorial

Do you have a link to the script?

For those who dont know Linux that well (Me too!), u need to figure out those function(rm=remove, cp=copy) and replace it manually in windows..
But updater-script could make it even harder.

Stockwell make it easy for us actually, if u check that github, there's an "overlay" folder.. Inside is all the file needed to add into the desire-z rom,
including the updater script (/ overlay / META-INF / com / google / android )..

Was wondering if any of the devs here could possibly spend some time to develop for the a200 as it is similar to the a500?
Our boot loader is unlocked
We are rooted
And we have cwm.
Just need some custom rom love such as cm9,aokp and so on.
I am not a dev but have comp programming knowledge if you need any files from the a200 I would be happy to share.
What do you mean we have CWM??
Is there something I missed?
But I do agree, we need our own section along with some custom ROMs!!
Sent from my A200 using XDA Premium HD app
I found it!!!
Flash CWM? Follow this link!
Well, creating your own simple roms isn't all that difficult. It's just hard to do when you don't have an a200 to test with. But the theory behind it is all the same.
If you guys want to try it yourself, let me know, and I'll share what I know about it. Seeing's you're already rooted and CWM installed, should be safe
I wouldn't mind having a deodexed rom. I would do it myself but not sure if I have the time with how much I work. Unless it's not that hard to do. I just can't wait until I can theme this device. Already have all the .png's ready...

Sure a a200 section is missing...
Now we had ClockWorkMod on our tablets we can fash what we want.
3G patch for example will be great for me...
But i'm not familiar with cooking kernel, or dev anything ...

You know of any A200 ICS Roms (full rom or update)?
I can take a shot at it. Just send me a link.

I have mmcblk0p 1-4, which one's do you need and how would I get you the boot.img?
Not sure about how to pull the boot image.
But the files from a "rooted" system dump would be great. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that earlier.
The issue, is that the root app they published, flashes the boot.image in 2 parts. And they're modified. This results in a modified boot.image in your tab when you run the root. Would be easier to have a complete modified image.
Well, never de-compiled and recompiled an image before, so will figure it out Maybe!
The rest, can probably be run from the install script as far as permissions and such.

I would be willing to help... and I might know something about the guy who got it all going

Ah, well good. That's what I get for not checkin the threads for a few days.
Hopin to see some customs soon. Would be nice!
Ok, just to update you, I sent out a test version this morning. Mainly to make sure I got the install-script right with permissions and stuff. No other changes other than removing the usual bad stuff.
If, and I say "if" it goes well, then I can proceed on stripping the heck outta it.
If not, I have an alternate plan.
Ok, need 1 or 2 of you people to try this install. All the bad stuff is taken out. At the worst, it will bootloop at start.
If it boots, check Su for write and re-write on the /system. Copy a file, see if it sticks. Then delete it.
Root explorer added to /data/app so check permissions.
Make sure you do your recovery backup first,
Then wipes and such like a normal rom.

A few tweaks from the devs here and there which vastly improve the current ics experience...
1. zeps supercharger
2. PapaSmurvs Smurfed out script(weird name but good script)
3. [email protected]'s tweakzv5 zip
Supercharger needs an additional services.jar patch which you can find in the thread, the other two work fine. They don't conflict and the smurfed out script tidies up the build.prop.
I've numbered them in the order I applied them, they work on both IceLite and Arconium v4 with no issues.
It helps if you give a short description telling us what the tweaks are about.
PapaSmurvs Smurfed out script also needs aditional patching of services.jar
I really like the supercharger tweak! Thanks

Sure.
Thanks for the tweaks OP.
Would like to know what these things DO.
I mean what are the downsides to them (and there must be downsides, as clearly Sony would have implemented what they do in the standard image).

They're various tweaks to memory management, 3g speed, UI speed/smoothness and others. There's no downside, as such. The stock firmware can be pretty slow or laggy, these eliminate that.
