Wifi not working with no sim - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hello,
Got an old mytouch 3g from a friend to play around with. I used his sim to activate the phone and put in my google address then took the SIM out. It boots up fine and all and gets me to the home screen. The issue is when i try to connect to a hidden SSID, it says "not it range. remembered" but will not connect. My other phone is connecting fine. Whats going on?
Basic stock phone right after reset
using stock at 1.6

I had the same issue, but it worked again with a android version > 1.6.

[Q] Bypass Sign In for Wifi Setup on Mytouch 3g

Hi All. I am wondering if anyone has been able to find a solution to this problem yet:
I recently bought a used MyTouch 3g. It had Android 1.6 on it, and the seller's info was still on it. So, being courteous, I did a factory reset. The phone booted into a sign in screen, but I couldn't sign in, as I don't have a data plan. So, I upgraded using the T-Mobile release of Froyo 2.2.1. I was then able to enable Wifi (yes, I have Wifi) and sign in. I used the phone as a VOIP device and toy for a while, but noticed that the Froyo was sluggish and had video playback problems. So, I decided to root the phone, so I could install CyanogenMod. I used the directions on the CyanogenMod wiki and flashed the MT3G with the COC10 Sappimg.nbh. I was then supposed to install FlashRec and 1.33.2005 SPL, but I can't because now I am back to square one, I cannot get past the sign in screen to enable wifi, so I can't sign in and do the next steps. Also, I tried to access the device with ADB, but cannot connect, as I cannot enable USB debugging on the device (must be able to get past the sign in screen and change settings to do that). I have tried to upgrade again to Froyo 2.2.1, but even that is not working this time. Does anyone have an idea for another approach? Thanks!
I had similar problem...I went to closest T-mobile store and ask a guy there if I can use his test SIM card with data plan ( or you may have a friend with data plan SIM)...in 15 minutes I passed the screen at the beginning and now everything works fine...
Regards
Thanks.
Thanks. Yes, I finally remembered that a friend of mine has a 4g data plan and I used his card to log in. Now it works fine.

Trouble with Arc not connecting to mobile network

I have a recurring issue where my Arc when turned on does not connect to the network, no data and not even texts etc. Though it does display the network. I have to turn the Arc off & on again and usually after waiting a bit it will then connect.
The SIM card I am using is less then 18 months old. It looks in fairly good condition, apart from a slight bit of scuffing on the front.
So is it likely to be the SIM or phone causing this issue?
did u update to 2.3.3? before the update i had this issue for a few days where if i went out of a signal area and came back, the mobile network wouldnt connect. This was after I changed my number and got a new sim. I checked the phone information (dial *#*#4636#*#*) and found that mobile network displayed as unknown and only connected after I restarted my fone or by toggling airplane mode. The old sim worked fine though. Try to use a different sim and see the results. Its mostly the sim and/or the provider.

I have had it happen before and after the 2.3.3 update. One weird thing with this SIM is where in the settings it's supposed to display my number it has always come up as unknown.
its the same for every other smartphone ive seen. own number is displayed as unknown. try a different sim in your phone and try to adjust your existing sim and how its seated. my problem occurred for a week and for some reason, it went away without any reason. it wasnt tied to any specific firmware version. i asked the same question and it still remains a mystery. wait a week then see if you can get a new sim.
however, faster way is to enable airplane mode and then disable it instead of rebooting. this will get all your communications working. hope this helps
edit: oh and dont forget to hit thanks. i love being thanked. its my favourite thing in the world.

Upgraded 4G Xoom LTE Connectivity Issues

Greetings All,
Got my Xoom back from its 4G upgrade last week and I have been noticing some issues with connecting over the 3G/4G network now. I use pocketcloud to connect to computers over RDP and when connected over WiFi networks, it works fine (computers connected to networks other than one I am connected to WiFi on), but when using the 3G or 4G connection on the Xoom, there is a network connection error. I tried it out on my incredible and it works just fine. Also, sometimes I get an error "cannot update" from the engadget app.
Also, the new market would not install some of my apps, like ThinkFree Office for example, I worked around it by using the web interface of Android Market on my computer and it worked fine.
I sent in the Xoom completely reverted back to stock 3.1, I recieved it with 3.2.2 stock. I cleared memory after I got it back and did a factory data reset. Not rooted, and no other modifications have been made.
I'm at a loss as to why some connections are causing the network to flake out.
Regards.
I read on here that some of the app installation issues were due to the possible change in pixel density that took place with the upgrade but that is something you can change back if you root.
I'm noticing the same exact issue and have no idea what is causing it - let's see if together we can figure it out. It's extremely flaky so far.
I got my upgraded Xoom back today and noticed the exact same issue. It wouldn't activate on the setup screen and prompted me to reboot. After reboot, it connected to 4g just fine and showed the 4g icon below.
I then went into the market to install my apps. It installed Thumbkeyboard just fine but when I went to install others, it stopped at 8.03k on the download. Did this for every app i tried.
I turned on wifi, connected to my AP and the downloads worked just fine. Even tried a couple reboots before doing this and it didnt work.
My 4g signal is about 75% so it's strong.
Very strange...
Power off
Remove SIM.
Put SIM back in
Power on
Done. Worked for me.
I take it back, still having all kind of issues.
just got mine back this morning, and it wont connect to anything! no 3g, no 4g, no wifi... nothing. WTF!?!?! restarted, pulled sim, etc...
going to do restore next and see what that does.
Same connection problems
Got my LTE upgrade back.
When I am at work I cannot update Touchdown from inside the firewall (not sure why) so I flip back to Verizon to refresh by shutting down the wifi. When I do, I noticed that the xoom would drop the connection (three bars) and then not reconnect. When I try to turn on the wifi it stays grayed out and neither system will connect until I reboot.
Went around with VZW tech support, they reported that the unit was registering on their network but not connecting. Sent back to Moto for further testing, got the unit back (they reported it was a software fix, no other data) but the unit continues to have the problem.
Stock 3.2.2 xoom with LTE
Any suggestions appreciated....
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?
Hello, I am still having all kinds of connection issues after I received my device from Motorola. After a reboot the xoom will connect to the Verizon network but If it stays idle for some time, I lose the connection and it will not connect until I reboot the device.
sent it for replacement
I had the same problem. I had to send it back once for 'repair' (no improvement) before Motorola replaced the unit due to an undefined hardware problem. Keep calling or go to a store.
I had something similar when I got my Xoom back. Apparently the geniuses at Verizon never added the SIM to my account. Took multiple calls/emails to get it corrected. Once someone realized it was missing it was corrected in about 10 minutes.

In your case did you have sporadic connection or, without the SIM number, were you completely unable to connect?
BTW, I missed this thread when it was fresh (as I was traveling) but I've had the exact same issues since the LTE upgrade. When it happens, the only way to reconnect is to reboot.
I used to be able to get it to reconnect by switching airplane mode on and off. Sometimes I had to reboot. Friday, even that did not help. I was furious. The next day, the update pushed out to me via wifi. I guess the servers recognized me as a customer again even though I already had a 2 year contract. Some people got the dataplan because they don't use wifi. I love the shortsightedness of the people who come up with this... not.
At least I haven't gotten disconnected since the patch was installed.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
I had to unroot my device for 4G to start working normal.

Australia S5 Internet 4G playing up since coming back from holiday

I have an Australian S5. I went to England for 2 weeks and used a UK SIM card. All was fine.
Since coming back to Australia and using the Australia SIM my 4G shows I have internet but to get the internet to work I need to turn mobile network off (4G disappears) then turn it back on again. Afterwards 4G works fine.
When I have the problem, 4G will show but there is no activity. If I try to check email for example the email app (default app) starts to refresh and then just stops like there is no new email.
When I was in England I had a notification that there was new software. I updated the software over the air. All seemed well.
The phone is completely stock and not rooted. I haven't tried anything to resolve really.. except these two things:
- Rebooting phone - problem comes back after a while say 24 hours
- setting the APN. If I choose another APN, for some reason the one I was originally on is re-selected somehow. I don't know how, may be the provider has some control over this? I use Telstra.
Any help appreciated.
I've created a new APN and removed / re-inserted the SIM card but problem still exists.
I've no idea how to troubleshoot. Has anyone got any suggestions?
I fixed this over the weekend. It was the "restrict background data" option in power saving settings.. I turned that off. All good now. :good:

x below lte signal and not internet connection help!

Hello so as stated above for some reason i have an x below my signal bar but it still says lte but not connection, ive tried the following, remove sim and put it back in (both with the phone off and on), checked my apns which i never had to mess with before (which i didnt have this issue yesterday just saw it when i got to work which i usually have lte signal), turn on and off airplane mode, turn off and on mobile data, ive tried every fix i could think of so far with none of them working.. my cell service is been paid and i checked my straight talk account to make sure, but now comes the weird part when im connected to wifi and pull down the quick toggles it shows no x under the lte (see screenshot below) does anyone know how to fix this issue i rely on my lte data for directions and gps at work.
Phone info:
Android 8.1 beta opp5 rooted
Thanks to anyone that can help!
I am having this same issue as of this morning, and I am on the Straighttalk AT&T network. I wonder if they just updated their APN network and our APN settings need to be updated too? If so, I'm not sure what settings to use.. using the straight talk website and selecting "Android 4.0" (the newest version listed), it shows the settings I'm currently using. Anyone else having/resolved this issue?

Borrow a (different carrier) SIM from a friend to see if it is a network issue. If the LTE works on that SIM, go to ST and have them provision another SIM for you (free). If the LTE still doesn't work, back your phone up, wipe it, flash a full image.

I called STW tech support, and they told me I had the wrong APN... I updated my APN settings (but really it was nothing other than changing the ID, so I don't think it had any real effect) and still had no data. After checking downdetector.com, it appears there is a widescale data outage with straight talk (or more specifically, AT&T). One of the commenters stated the following:
"I can confirm the issue is DNS. If you have the ability to changes the DNS on your phone, you can restore service. If you have Android + Root, I used DNS Override successfully. Just set DNS Servers to Google's"
I just used DNS Override ($2 app) to set my DNS servers to Google's and that resolved my issue. Hope that helps. If you don't want to spend $2, there are some free apps that also will change the DNS servers for you, and there are other methods detailed here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ide-how-to-change-dns-android-device-t3273769
Update: earlier that day ot seemed to resolve itself while i was driving at work amd got to my destination which was about an hour away and once i looked at my phone ot no longer had the x and had full service amd working lte so idk maybe it was cell tower maintenence but don't know for sure but the issue hasn't happened again tho but thanks for everyone for the help and suggestion!
