did not know that. Thank you very much I was always curious if there was a history in the stock browser
You're Welcome! Just sharing.
It's a little known tip, but it's actually been there quite a while. Gingerbread does it, and I think Froyo too.
Sweet!
Never knew that - quite handy!
Thanks, very usefull indeed, combined with fullscreen mode stock browser UI rocks... but for speed and rendering Opera kicks ass.... and it's UI sucks ass ... hell even firefox UI rocks... and sucks at everything else.

+1. Even Dolphin HD (which I find to be a litter faster then stock) does not compare to the nice layout/interface stock 3.1 has. I get an occasional random shutdown once in a while, but most of the time it runs perfect - watching hq video in browser makes my I pad owning friends wince

So what does XDA-Sprint-Hero think about the default Android browser?
Good performance? Accurate rendering? Good scrolling and multitouch?
Sucks. Opera ftw
Meh, garbage. For general browsing go with Opera like DirtyShroomz said

What ever happened to the default browser with the bubbly loading bar? I like that one.
Multi touch on the default browser is laggy, you can pinch and it either goes to far or not enough and its slow.
I like opera and wish we could set it as a default. Given I haven't loaded it in a while, maybe we can now.

You can set it as the default with Opera Bridge from the market, i believe it's only a week or so old.
It's good. I hate Opera.
opera mini all the way, pure speed is all i need, to hell with flash.
Are there any other browsers besides stock that can use flash?
Sent from my HERO200 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I love tabbed browsing in Dolphin and rendering is excellent. It does get a little chunky with pinch to zoom but we are using a ****ty 2+ year old processor in these phones.
I cant stand using the default browser. I use dolphin, its just really user friendly. Opera didnt work to well for me. It was the only browser i would ever use on every phone till android.
+1 Dophin. Opera seemed laggy for me and pinch to zoom wasn't working at all. I'm running hero 2.0d.
P.S. First post ever.
i use xscope and opera most also have dolphin and stock browser on my phone also i like variety!
Anyone try the firefox alpha? Curious about speed and flash support with that. If I ever take time off from trying to fine tune my theme I'll try myself.

Was using stock browser but went back to Opera. Such a big difference.
When I had 1.5 I went with dolphin. i did not like the UI of opera. However, since flashing 2.1 I have stuck with the default browser. I keep thinking about installing dolphin again, but now that I have Wireless tether, I just whip out my laptop as it is much quicker than my phone.
I love the speed of opera, but with so many sites using flash for navigation or Ajax (neither of which opera supports) it just doesnt do it for me. BASIC sites its great, but if I want TRUE PC browsing I'm fine with the stock browser. Yeah its a bit slow, but its a PHONE... I remind myself of that and Im patient enough to wait.
Just sayin:
http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/11/m...intuitive-browsing-experience-to-htc-evo.html
** My favorite parts:
1) Doesn't show the page until it is fully loaded and ready to view top to bottom.
2) Instantaeous back/forward - no waiting while pages reload.
3) Zero screen lag while scrolling.
4) Clean iPhonish interface (which I personally have always liked).
5) Very intuitive. Stuff is where you expect it to be and works like you expect it to work.
Did I mention it's fast?
** The ultimate test - I just loaded www.redskins.com. This website has always absolutely destroyed every other browser I have tried - usually just giving up 20 seconds after clicking the link. Miren loaded this ready to go in 5 seconds.
Update >> 6) Saves your spot on your bookmark list so that when you go back to it, you can see where you left off instead of starting again at the top. This is something I always liked about Dolphin.
Nice thanks.. trying it nao
Seems to be a lot of browsers floating around. It's hard to stick with one when I keep trying out new ones and they all seem to have some perks.
On to try this one out

Yep. It's almost funny. I guess I am used to pages taking a certain amount of time to load then being kind of jerky as you scroll through them - especially if the page isn't 100% done loading.
Anyway, first webpage I opened with this actually kind of made my head jerk back like damn, that was quick. Then I noticed how smooth the scrolling was and I was in love.
When you double tap the screen it transitions very quickly from overview to close-up - again without the stuttering your get in other browsers. Its kind of like they took the best bits of Opera, Dolphin and Stock Browser and mashed 'em up.
** Oh yeah, another thing I like. When you open a bookmark, if you go back to the bookmark list from the webpage, it "saves" your spot and doesn't take you back to the top of the list. I like this because I often like to go through my favorite links one by one and hate having to start from the top again every time.
Going to test it out..thanks.
It just became my new default browser, buh bye Dolphin
Just tried it and didn't seem any faster than the stock browser

An alternative would be just to double tap screen. It quickly goes to overview mode. Then double tap the place you want to read and it zooms in. It's pretty quick doing this - sort of like Opera.
I use XScpe and I tried this just now, I'm keeping XScope. Others should try it as well. BTW Dolphin HD the slowest browser out there, even slower than the stock browser, only tooted for it's abilities for themes, plugins, settings, etc, no big deal, I think speed is way more important on 3G.

I prefer this over xScope simply because I like the UI better. xScope is fast but when you scroll webpages it has a tendency to stutter. This does not. One of the reasons xScope is fast is that it has no overhead, even bookmarks are rendered in html; however, if you want your browser to be fast and pretty, I recommend this

I've noticed scrolling is laggy but I only notice it when I zoom through a website, so the lagginess doesn't really matter to me since I'm not trying to read anything obviously and I'm still able to make out pictures and certain texts. I like that it's a lightweight browser, it loads quickly and does not have so many bells and whistles.
Q.Does Miren have the option to render a page before it's fully loaded, I don't like that it doesn't?
Isn't this the MIUI browser?
Very well designed but I don't like the clashing look with stock Android. WAY too iOS like. I might make a Android themed version.
Sent from my CM6.1 powered HTC EVO 4G using Tapatalk
Similarity to iOS is purely a matter of personal taste. Some like it and some don't. An Android skin would be quite popular I'm sure ;-)
One other thing I noticed that I like is that you can arrange your bookmarks into folders - yay!
One odd bug I noticed that is probably the result of this being translated from Chinese. All the folders are listed in REVERSE alphabetical order.

I did like the instantaneous forward / back loading of pages though.

I think what you are interpreting as sluggishness is just a different way this browser loads pages.
Most browsers load pages a piece at a time. Because of this, the page "looks" like it is loading fast because you see the page even though it is not usable yet.
With this browser it only shows you the page once it is fully loaded, thus it may appear on occasion that it is slower.
I prefer the wait-till-its-ready method.

Stock browser just cannot compete.
should I even bother downloading firefox?
Not a huge fan of Firefox, not all that great and way to big of an app for a browser IMHO
It's a shame that if you should use something else besides the stock browser, you can't change out the stock browser icon in the dock. It feels like dead weight to just have it there. Given Google's propensity for open-ness and customization, not sure why Android stock doesn't let you change these dock icons. Unless I'm mistaken?
Firefox for mobile(aka Fennec) is really slow for me right now. It might be great eventually, but right now it's super slow and has alot of bugs.
Dolphin Browser HD, to me, is like Firefox. Alot of extension, alot of addons, alot of enhancements but still kinda slow. Dolphin Browser Mini is more like Chrome in that it has a few extensions/addons/enhancements but it's extremely quick.

No, it renders on the device. The difference between Dolphin HD and Mini is that the first is based on the stock Eclair browser and the second on Donut.
for me the best one is the opera mini.

Yes. I'm running Caulkins km7 touchwhiz and I have no typing lag at all.
I'm using the LTE version with 3.1 and there is no typing lag. I had the Xoom for a few weeks (returned it) and it had the lag.
BTW, yesterday in a 4G area I got Almost 27Mbps down and over 8Mbps up!
What about the general lag from swiping between home screens, especially on Portrait? What about in the app drawer?
I am willing to forgive all of Honeycomb's faults, except general lag in the UI on a stinkin Dual Core! Is NVidia to blame? Or Google?
I have no typing lag or Homescreen lag whatsoever and I tried 3 ROMS

Yes. running the above rom listed and is smooth..typing and scrolling..still not as fluid as my ipad 2 but getting closer!!! Wish it had a better cpu and dedicated gpu...other than that...love this 10.1.

When you type in a form, like say when you are replying to a post here on XDA, does the text box highlight in blue? That blue highlight seems to be the cause of the lag. In the aftermarket browsers like dolphin that have the blue box, there is lag. Browsers like opera with no blue box, no lag. The samsung browser in the touchwiz roms has no blue box and no lag.
Its the rendering engine. Turn off opengl rendering and its gone..I think its opengl. Somewhere in the debug settings?

When using the stock browser, the box is highlighted in blue but there is no lag in the text entry to the box. I just ran another test to really try to slow it down by typing in it WAY faster than normal input and no problems.
I use Opera because it allows drop down menus and I need these for particular browser application programming (like the Cisco CallManager web interface) but I had no issues with the stock browser other than that.
Also, I haven't noticed any lag in the other areas of the UI. So far I am generally pleased with this tablet and absolutely amazed with some aspects of it like the quality of the screen and the crazy fast 4G speeds.

No that doesn't fix it, lag is still there.
I gotta think it's a conflicting app issue. I have stock non-rooted Tab and see no lag.
Without including a user agent switcher in the browser!! wtf, thats my only complaint with this phone, what good is a 5.3'' HD screen when im constantly being directed to mobile sites... >.<
I tried opera and dolphin hd but they weren't as fast as the stock browser, with lots of rendering lag...

Maybe it is a highly subjective experience...but I experience that Opera mobile is faster then stock... it takes less battery I have noticed... but I have not done an A/B comparison.. just highly subjective..but I really prefer opera cause the way it handle tabs.
I'm in love with opera mobile. It's so much better than any other browser I've tried. It automatically reflows and recenters text like it's reading my mind. And large text boxes like posting here are reflowed; something I haven't seen elsewhere. I won't use any other browser.

I personally like the mobile sites a lot more. They are usually a lot less cluttered and have less ads. And even on 10" tablets some "normal" sites are just annoying to navigate.
